trenice's birthday party has rolled around and she insisted that i come over. i couldn't miss this event since despite the dumpster-fire of a relationship i seemed to have been swept up with dani, i have gotten closer with trenice and i didn't want to miss out.
not to mention that maybe a small part of me wanted to see dani. i hated the way i came across when she tried to talk things out at the café. i was trying to stand my ground, but then i came across as a bitch. and one thing about dani is she can be very cold if she wanted to.
she probably hates my guts now...i guess it's for the best?

i tucked away my phone into my pocket as i rung the doorbell. dani's house being familiar to me already made blush creep on my cheeks. ever since our...incident, i couldn't help but get our steamy moments out of my head, no matter how hard i try.
i'm greeted at the door by 070 phi who warmly embraces me in a hug and we chatter excitedly as he leads me into the living room. the first thing that hit me was the sheer volume of the music.
the living room was alive with laughter, music, and the kind of reckless joy that only comes with a good party. i tried to immerse myself in the energy, but no matter where i stood or who i talked to, my attention kept drifting to dani.
"come on, skai, we're about to start a game!" trenice called out, her voice cutting through the noise as she waved me over. she was perched on the floor near the coffee table, surrounded by a group of friends who were clearly ready to have a good time.
i smiled and made my way over, but my eyes kept darting to the other side of the room where dani was.
dani sat on the arm of the couch, looking so effortlessly cool it was almost irritating. her body language was relaxed, one leg casually crossed over the other as she leaned in close to a girl i didn't recognize.
the girl was stunning—tall with dark, glossy hair that fell in perfect waves down her back. she was laughing at something dani had just said, the sound light and melodic, and it grated on my nerves.
dani hadn't even glanced in my direction. it was like i didn't exist in her world anymore. the thought made my chest tighten.
i tried to focus on trenice and the group of friends gathering for the game, but the sight of dani with this girl was like a splinter in my mind that i couldn't ignore.
as i sat down in the circle, pretending to listen to trenice explain the rules of the game, i couldn't help but notice how dani's conversation with the girl seemed to deepen.
"hey dani and mel are you guys gonna join or what?" ralphy asks as he looks back at them. dani stops mid laugh and looks towards our group before looking back at this mel girl for some sort of opinion.
"nah, i hate card games, we might play the next one though." she calls out before turning back to her super interesting conversation with the girl. i couldn't help but roll my eyes.
"hey, skai, you paying attention?" trenice nudged me, pulling me back to the present. her tone was playful, but her eyes were sharp, like she could sense something was off.
"yeah, sorry," i said, forcing a smile. "just zoned out for a second."
"uh-huh," trenice replied, not buying it for a second but choosing not to press the issue. "well, you betta focus because we're about to start!"
i nodded, doing my best to pay attention to the game, but my mind kept wandering back to dani. the way she was ignoring me was maddening even though i asked for it. i couldn't shake the feeling of being left out, of being unwanted. i didn't want to care, but i did.
out of the corner of my eye, I saw dani lean in closer to the girl, her voice low as she said something that made the girl laugh again, her hand resting on dani's knee briefly like it belonged there.
i suddenly felt a sharp stab of jealousy that i couldn't suppress.
the night stretched on, the noise and energy of the party swirling around me like a distant echo. i found myself in the kitchen, needing a moment away from the chaos of the living room where dani and that girl—mel—were still wrapped up in their little world.
nothing is ever that funny anyways.
i focused on pouring a drink and as i leaned against the counter, taking slow sips, i heard footsteps approaching. i looked up just as dani walked in. the air in the room shifted immediately. she didn't look at me.
she headed straight for the fridge, pulled out a bottle of water, and twisted off the cap, the sound slicing through the quiet like a knife.
the silence between us was thick, almost suffocating. i stood there, gripping my glass a little too tightly, waiting—hoping—for her to say something, to give any sign that she knew i was there. but she didn't.
she gathered a few bottles of beer in her hand and turned towards the door, her eyes grazing over me without so much as a flicker of recognition. the cold, dismissive glance she gave me was like ice water to the face—sharp, stinging, and impossible to ignore.
just as she reached the door, dani paused for the briefest of moments. my heart lurched, waiting for her to say something, anything, that would break this unbearable silence.
but she didn't. she simply adjusted the bottom of her jacket, her expression completely blank, before walking out of the kitchen without a single word, without a single backward glance.
i sank onto the bar stool, feeling the cold weight of defeat settle in my chest as i watched her retreat outside. she didn't even hesitate, handing out the drinks she'd collected from the fridge to a few people as if nothing was wrong.
but everything was wrong.
the jealousy and frustration brewing inside me finally reached a boiling point. fuelled by a surge of determination, i pushed myself off the stool and followed her outside.
the cool night air bit at my skin, a stark contrast to the warmth of the house. the garden was lit by soft, glowing lights, casting a golden hue over the gathering.
i joined the group with a casual air, trying to appear unfazed despite the tension coiling tight in my chest. my arrival drew a few surprised glances, and then, for the briefest moment, dani's eyes flickered towards me.
but just as quickly as it came, it was gone, and dani turned back to her companion with a forced smile.
oh wow.
"hey everyone," i said, forcing a cheerful tone. "beautiful night, huh?"
"skai! you finally made it outside!" cine's voice, a little slurred from too many drinks, cut through the tension. his enthusiasm was almost enough to pull me into the conversation as he swayed slightly on his feet. "how's it going though?"
"yeah, i'm good. how about you?" i replied, trying to sound engaged. but my focus was elsewhere, drifting inevitably back to dani.
she was completely absorbed in her conversation with the girl beside her, as they were showing each other pictures on their phones, that felt like sharp stabs to my chest. cine and the others were recounting some story from their last tour, but honestly, i couldn't care less.
the two seemed to be sharing a private joke and every laugh from dani was like a tiny knife twist, and every touch of her hand against the girl's arm felt like a betrayal.
i couldn't take it anymore.
the frustration and jealousy that had been simmering all night finally reached a breaking point. i excused myself from the group, barely noticing cine's puzzled look as i walked directly towards dani. she noticed immediately, her eyebrow raising in a silent question as i pointed at her.
"hey," i said, trying to keep my voice steady and left no room for arguments. "let's chat inside."
dani's eyes narrowed slightly, her usual cool demeanour shifting into something more guarded, but she followed me without a word, her curiosity piqued by the urgency in my voice. we moved through the house in silence.
we finally reached a quiet corner on the banister and i leaned against the railing, trying to gather my thoughts, but the proximity to dani made it impossible to think straight.
she stood a few feet away, her posture stiff, arms crossed defensively over her chest. her eyes were locked on mine, dark and intense, and i could feel the weight of her gaze like a physical touch.
"what do you want, skai?" dani's sigh was a gust of frustration, her hand running through her hair as she looked at me with an exasperated expression.
"who is she? i've never seen her before," i asked, trying to mask the jealousy simmering beneath my curiosity. my voice was steady, but inside, my heart raced with a mix of hope and dread.
dani scoffed, her gaze cold and dismissive. "she's my cousin from my dad's side. i haven't seen her in a while." her eyes narrowed at me, a flash of irritation crossing her features. "not that it's any of your business who i'm speaking to."
"i'm just curious," i said, my voice softer, hoping to defuse the tension. a wave of relief washed over me, but it was short-lived.
dani's arms crossed defensively over her chest, her posture rigid and uninviting. "what do you want, skai?" she repeated, her tone clipped and impatient.
"i don't know," i mumbled, my gaze dropping to the intricate details of my nails as if they held the answers i sought. the silence between us was thick, pregnant with unresolved issues.
"you never really do," dani said bitterly, her words a sharp sting that made my chest tighten. "is that all?"
"are you kidding me?" i shot back, my frustration bubbling to the surface. "don't act like you're the one who's been wronged. can you blame me for being cautious around you?"
dani's face flushed with anger. "if you didn't act like a kid sometimes and matured a bit, you would already know what happened and allowed me to explain myself," she snapped, her brown eyes darkened.
"i'm not interested," i said, my voice cold and final.
"sure," dani retorted, her sarcasm cutting through the air. "and that's why you had to pull me aside to ask who i'm speaking with. how much longer are you going to keep up this delusional, standing-on-fake-business act?"
i stepped closer, the anger in me rising like a tidal wave. "it is not an act," i said, my voice fierce, almost trembling with the force of my emotions.
dani didn't back down. she stood her ground, her eyes blazing with defiance. "then why are you in my business?" she challenged.
dani's eyes bore into mine, the frustration in them mirrored by my own, but something else too—a dark, simmering heat that made my pulse quicken.
i didn't answer her challenge. instead, my gaze dropped to her lips, the curve of them soft, full, and so damn tempting, and before i knew it, i was reaching out, grabbing the collar of her shirt and pulling her against me.
our mouths crashed together in a fierce, desperate kiss, teeth clashing, lips bruising. it was raw, all hunger and heat and pent-up frustration, and i felt like i was drowning in her.
dani's initial surprise melted away, replaced by something feral, something primal. she responded immediately, her hands finding my waist, fingers digging in with a force that bordered on painful, pulling me closer.
i gasped into her mouth, the taste of her—mint, a hint of smoke, and something uniquely her—filling my senses, making my head spin. her tongue darted out, sweeping across my bottom lip with a demand that i couldn't deny, and i opened for her, letting her take what she wanted, feeling a shiver of pleasure ripple through me.
she pushed me back roughly against the banister, the wood biting into my back, but i barely noticed. i was too caught up in her, in the way her hands roamed over my body like she was trying to memorize every curve, every inch of skin.
i tangled my fingers in her hair, tugging her head back just enough to expose her throat, and i pressed my lips there, kissing her skin, feeling her pulse race beneath my mouth.
i bit down lightly, enough to draw a groan from her lips, and the sound shot straight through me, making my knees weak.
below us, the muted sound of conversation and laughter floated up from the party, a distant reminder that we weren't alone.
"dani," i murmured against my lips, my voice sounding almost pleading. but she didn't let me finish. she kissed me harder, silencing me with her mouth, my hands roaming over her body, tracing the lines of her abs through the thin fabric of her shirt.
"fuck," dani growled against my skin, and the sound of her voice—low, rough, laced with desire—sent a thrill down my spine.
she moved her hands to my hips, sliding them up under the fabric of my dress, gripping me tightly. "you drive me fuckin' crazy, skai," she whispered, her breath hot against my ear.
"then do something about it," i whispered back, my voice breathy, taunting.
dani's lips curled into a wicked grin against my neck before she bit down harder, and a gasp tore from my lips. her hands weren't idle either, as they slid down to my hips, fingers digging into the soft flesh there before slipping beneath the hem of my dress.
her touch was possessive, almost rough, as she gripped my thigh and hitched it up against her hip. i gasped, the movement pulling me even closer to her, our bodies pressed so tightly together that it was hard to breathe, let alone think.
her mouth found mine again, and she kissed me with a hunger that was almost violent, her tongue delving deep, exploring, claiming.
i moaned into her mouth, my hips grinding down against her thigh, seeking out that delicious pressure, the friction that made my whole body sing with need. i could feel the heat of her skin through the thin cotton of her shirt, feel the hard lines of her muscles as she moved against me, and it was driving me insane, every nerve in my body alight.
"watching how jealous you were all night makes this so much fuckin' better," she teased against my lips, her voice rough, breathless. "you know that right?"
her hand on my hip slid down, fingers slipping under the hem of my panties, grazing the sensitive skin there, teasing me, making me squirm against her.
"dani," i gasped, my voice a mix of frustration and plea, my body trembling with need. "stop teasing me."
"not yet, baby," she whispered, her lips brushing against my ear, her breath sending shivers down my spine. "i want to hear you beg for it."
my face flushed hot, my pride warring with my desire, but my body was aching for her, every nerve screaming for her touch. "please," i finally whispered, my voice small, raw. "please, dani..."
her chuckle was low, dark, vibrating against my skin as she kissed her way down my neck, sucking hard enough to leave a mark.
"that's my girl," she murmured, her hand finally moving between my legs, fingers slipping beneath my panties. i felt her fingertips brush against my slick heat, and i gasped, my hips bucking against her hand.
"fuck, you're so wet," she breathed, almost a groan, her fingers sliding over me, teasing, exploring. she pressed her thumb against my clit, rubbing slow, torturous circles that made my legs shake, my breath hitch in my throat.
"please," i begged again, my voice breaking, my hands gripping her shoulders tightly, needing her to give me what i was so desperately craving.
dani smirked, a wicked glint in her eyes as she pushed two fingers inside me, her thumb still working my clit, her movements confident, assured.
"damn you're so tight," she murmured, her voice thick with desire. "so perfect for me."
i moaned loudly, my head falling back, my hips moving against her hand, seeking out more of that delicious friction. she added another finger, her pace quickening, and i could feel the tension coiling in my belly, the pleasure building higher and higher, threatening to consume me.
"dani," i panted, my voice trembling, barely recognizable. "i'm so close."
she leaned in, her lips brushing against my ear, her breath hot, her voice low and commanding. "come for me, skai," she whispered. "i want to feel you fall apart."
the banister dug into my back, but i didn't care. all i could focus on was the feel of dani's fingers inside me, the way her thumb pressed against my clit, driving me closer and closer to the edge. my breaths came in short, ragged gasps, my moans muffled by dani's mouth as she kissed me harder, her free hand gripping my hip to hold me in place as she drove me toward release.
and with a final, deliberate thrust of her fingers, i shattered, my orgasm crashing over me like a wave, my body convulsing against hers.
my cry was muffled against her shoulder as i clung to her, my nails digging into her skin, my breath coming in short, ragged gasps.
she held me tight, her fingers still moving inside me, drawing out every last bit of pleasure, her lips trailing kisses along my jaw, my neck. "that's it, mama," she murmured, her voice soothing, filled with a tender heat.
dani's lips lingered against my ear, her breath still hot on my skin as we stood in the dimly lit corner, the reality of what just happened sinking in.
i was still trembling slightly, the aftershocks of pleasure pulsing through me, but before i could fully gather myself, dani pulled back, her eyes dark and intense.
"come with me," she murmured, her voice low and commanding as she grabbed my hand, leading me toward the nearby bathroom. we slipped inside quickly, the door clicking shut behind us, sealing us off from the rest of the world.
the harsh fluorescent lights flickered on, illuminating our flushed faces and tousled hair. i leaned against the sink, trying to steady my breathing, my heart still racing.
dani didn't say a word as she opened the cabinet and pulled out a small packet of wipes. after taking one she turned to me, a smug smile playing on her lips as she handed them over.
"was that a mistake too?" she asked, her voice dripping with satisfaction, a knowing glint in her eyes.
i stared at her, my mind still reeling, my body still buzzing from what just happened. her question hung in the air between us, heavy with implication, but before i could respond, heavy footsteps echoed from the stairs.
"yo skai! dani! where y'all at?" trenice's voice called out from the hallway, her tone playful but insistent. "come on, they're about to bring out the cake!"
dani's expression shifted slightly, the intensity in her eyes giving way to something softer, almost teasing. she reached out, brushing a strand of hair behind my ear before stepping back.
"guess we'll have to finish this conversation later," she said with a smirk, her hand lingering on the door handle before she finally pulled it open.
i followed her out, my legs still a little unsteady, my heart still pounding as we made our way downstairs. the noise and energy of the party hit me all at once. dani looks towards me and smirks, and i couldn't help but look away.
