we pull up to what looks like a regular restaurant, a cozy spot with dim lighting spilling onto the sidewalk. i park the car and glance at skai, who's giving me that curious look she gets when she's trying to figure out what's going on. i can't help but smirk as i step out and walk around to open her door.

"you ready?" i ask, offering my hand. she takes it, her fingers cold against mine, but there's warmth in her smile.

"where are we?" she asks, eyeing the restaurant's entrance.

"you'll see," i say, leading her inside. the place is nice enough, with a few tables occupied by couples and small groups. but i'm not interested in the main floor. after dropping our coats in the cloakroom, a hostess catches sight of me and nods, like she's been expecting us. she guides us through the dining area and toward a door at the back.

skai gives me a sideways glance, clearly intrigued but still in the dark.

"this isn't just dinner, is it?" she whispers.

"patience, mama," i say, squeezing her hand.

the hostess opens the door, revealing a staircase leading down. as we descend, the faint hum of music starts to filter through, getting louder with each step. when we reach the bottom, another door swings open, and we're hit with the low, pulsing beats of jazz mixed with something more modern. the space is dimly lit, with deep red and gold accents, plush seating, and a small stage where a band is setting up.

"surprise," i say as skai takes it all in, her eyes wide with excitement.

"a speakeasy? seriously?" she says, turning to me with a grin.

"yep. figured i'll take a special girl to somewhere equally special," i reply, feeling pretty pleased with myself.

we're led to a cozy booth near the stage, tucked away enough for privacy but with a perfect view of the room. skai slides in, still looking around like she's trying to soak in every detail.

"so, what do you think?" i ask, leaning in close, my shoulder brushing against hers as we settle into the small, intimate booth.

skai glances around, her eyes wide with curiosity. "how do you even know about this place?" she asks, still absorbing the atmosphere. "it looks super exclusive."

"a friend brought me here one night, and i've been hooked ever since," i say, my voice dropping slightly. "and yeah, it's pretty exclusive. you can only get in by association. back in the 1920s, this place was all the rage."

"i'm sure it was," she says, her eyes sparkling. "it's so bedazzling." her enthusiasm makes me chuckle, a warmth spreading in my chest as i watch her take everything in like she's found some hidden treasure. the waiter arrives, interrupting our moment and hands us our menus.

"let's make this interesting," skai suggests playfully. "how about we pick each other's orders?"

"you sure you can get me something i'll like, i can be picky." i challenged but she brushed me off already flicking through the menu.

skai turns to the waiter, her smile widening as she rattles off an order for me. i watch her, amused, as she confidently names a meat dish. i stiffen slightly.

the waiter nods and starts to write it down, but i can't hide my reaction. skai's eyes dart to my face, and she notices the slight shift in my expression. i clear my throat and offer a gentle smile.

"uh, actually, i don't eat meat. i'll go with the vegetarian option instead."

skai's eyes widen in surprise, and she quickly adjusts. "oh, i didn't know that. my bad. what do you want then?"

"don't worry about it," i say, brushing it off with a smile. "i'll go for the mushroom risotto. it's really good here."

skai relaxes, visibly relieved. "mushroom risotto it is then. and for me, i'll go with the duck confit."

the waiter nods, making a note of our orders. as he leaves, skai leans back and her gaze remains on her hands resting on the table, biting her lip as she fiddles with her napkin.

"you okay?"  i asked softly, leaning closer in the booth, the flickering candlelight casting a warm glow between us.

"i'm sorry, i didn't mean to—"

"hey, don't sweat it," i cut her off, reaching across the table to gently squeeze her hand. "you didn't know. besides, i'm sure whatever you picked would've been great if i ate meat."

skai's shoulders relaxed a bit, her eyes meeting mine. she turned fully toward me, her gaze softening.

"urg, why are you so amazing?" she whispered, her voice tender as she cupped my face in her hands. the sincerity in her eyes made my heart skip a beat as she scanned my entire face.

"what's wrong, is there somethin' on my face?" i teased, leaning into her touch and smiling up at her.

"yes, beauty." skai's words made me laugh, a burst of genuine amusement escaping me as i tilted my head back.

"amazin' line skai," i said between chuckles, and she grinned, her laughter joining mine.

"my game is too good, what can i say."  skai winked playfully. then, she grew serious, her expression turning contemplative. "also since when do you not eat meat? and for me to say your order all confident it's—"

"it's not embarrassin'. you're reading too much into it. i should have mentioned it before, but it's been a while," i reassured her, taking her hand gently.

"oh, okay," she said, her smile returning as i lifted her chin slightly to meet my eyes.

"hey, it's fine. we'll just have to get used to the new us," i said softly, my voice soothing. skai's smile grew, warm and genuine.

"how about we ask each other some typical first date questions?" she suggested.

"uh, sure. i don't know how many siblings do you have?" i asked sheepish as i didn't know what to ask. skai laughed, clearly entertained.

"no dan dan, not questions you already know the answer to. like what are you curious about this version of me." she explains softly.

"right, my bad." i grin before sitting up to think of a question. "do you still collect those small hello kitty figurines?"

"yes, i still very much do. you remember that?"  she laughed, clearly pleased.

"whenever we used to go to the corner shop, that's all you was interested in buying." i said, reminiscing about how her face would light up when she found a new figurine.  "okay your turn mama."

"hm, let me think." she paused, then asked, "when did you start using a strap?" her voice dropped to a whisper.

"well, it was durin' my relationship with kehlani. honestly, i didn't expect to enjoy it as much as i did," i admitted, feeling a bit vulnerable.

"you better have cleaned that before using it on me," skai said with a mock frown.

"of course, mi amour," i reassured her, gently rubbing her arm. her smile returned.

"okay, my turn. do you still use the polaroid camera i got you for your 18th birthday?" i asked, genuinely curious to see if she was the type of ex to throw every gift away.

"yep, and i kept everything else you gave me too," she said, shrugging with a smile. "you're great at picking gifts."

our waiter arrived with our food and drinks, and we thanked him with warm smiles.

"this is really good," skai said, taking a bite and nodding in approval. "but i have a question i'm really curious about."

"shoot away." i said, covering my mouth with my hand.

"how many songs did you write about me?" she asked, a smirk playing on her lips as she twirled her fork.

i took a sip of my drink, feeling nervous under her gaze. "i could ask you the same question."

"don't deflect. if you answer, i'll answer," she challenged, her eyes glinting.

i hesitated, then admitted, "percentage-wise, probably 90-95% of my songs."

"you're lying. even during other relationships?" she asked, disbelief in her tone.

"especially during relationships. i'd always end up writing about you, whether i liked to admit it or not," i shrugged honestly.

"for me, it's the same. 90% for sure," she said quietly. "i guess you never left my heart."

"you never left mine, either," i said softly, my gaze dropping to our intertwined fingers before meeting her eyes again. "i don't just want us to work out, i need us to. i can't lose you again. do you understand?"

"yes baby, i feel the same way."

i watched as skai's expression softened, her eyes shimmering with a mixture of longing and tenderness. she slowly leaned in, her lips hovering just above mine, her breath warm against my skin. everything around us seemed to blur and fade, the low murmur of voices, the soft music, the clinking of glasses—all of it disappearing.

"come here baby," i whispered softly, my voice barely a breath, and she closed the small distance between us.

our lips met in a tender, delicate kiss, a soft brush that sent a shiver down my spine. her lips were soft, warm, and sweet against mine. i sighed into her mouth, my hands finding their way to the back of her neck, fingers threading through her hair as i deepened the kiss ever so slightly.

her lips parted against mine, and i could feel her smile, a soft, contented hum escaping her throat. the kiss was slow, unhurried, every movement purposeful and tender. it was like we were relearning each other.

her hands slid down to my shoulders, her touch gentle but firm, grounding me. i pulled back just a fraction, resting my forehead against hers, my eyes still closed, savouring the lingering taste of her on my lips.

"i'm really, really happy to be here with you." i whispered and she nodded against my forehead.

"same dan dan." she says softly. we pulled back and i kept my hand on her cheek, and she leaned into it, her eyes never leaving mine.

as the night wore on, the soft notes of jazz mellowed into a gentle hum. skai and i had spent hours talking, laughing, and sharing moments that felt like they had been waiting to happen for years.

once we got tired, we made our way toward the cloakroom, her fingers brush against mine, and i catch the way her gaze lingers on my lips, the way her teeth tug on her bottom lip, trying to play it cool, but i know better.

we stopped in front of the counter, and the attendant, a young woman with a knowing smile, handed over our coats. but skai wasn't focused on the coat in her hand; her gaze was locked on mine, eyes dark and intent. without saying a word, she took a step closer, and i felt my pulse quicken, my breath catching in my throat.

"you look so good tonight," she whispered, her voice low and husky, and her fingers slid over the lapels of my jacket, pulling me a little closer.

"you've said that a few times now," i murmured back, my lips curling into a teasing smile. "and i still don't think i've heard enough of it."

skai chuckled softly, her breath fanning across my cheek, and she pressed her body against mine, her fingers curling into the fabric of my jacket. "i could tell you all night... or show you," she whispered, her lips brushing against my ear.

a shiver ran down my spine, and without thinking, i reached for my wallet, pulling out a few bills. i slipped them into the attendant's hand, leaning in close. "give us a few minutes, yeah? lock the door," i whispered, my voice low and urgent.

she hesitates, glancing between us, but when she nods. she turns the key with a soft click, then slips out, leaving us alone.

the second the door locks, i'm on her. i push skai back against the wall, right between the hanging coats, and the soft fabric rustles around us. her back hits the wood with a soft thud, and i feel her breath hitch as she stares up at me.

i start pressing my body against hers, my hands sliding down to grip her hips, pulling her hard against me. her breath hitches, and i see the way her eyes darken, a slow grin spreading across her lips.

"why do we need privacy dani?" she whispers, teasing, but her voice is already thick with anticipation.

"because of the way you keep lookin' at me," i murmur against her ear, my voice rough with need, caging her in with my arms.

i don't wait for her to respond. i grip her waist firmly and lift her onto a small, wooden bench nestled among the coats. the wood creaks under her weight, but she doesn't care; her eyes are locked on mine, and there's a challenge in them that makes my pulse race.

i capture her lips in a deep, hungry kiss, my fingers threading through her hair, tugging just enough to make her gasp against my mouth. i feel her body melt into mine, her hands gripping my shoulders, nails digging in as she pulls me closer.

i step between her legs, pushing them apart, feeling the soft fabric of her dress sliding up her thighs. she gasps as my hands find the inside of her knees, pushing them open wider, her fingers digging into my shoulders to steady herself.

"dani..." she whispers, and it sends a shiver down my spine.

"shhh, baby," i murmur, pressing a soft kiss to her neck, feeling her shiver beneath my lips. "i need you to be quiet so nobody hears what i'm about to do to you."

my fingers trail up her thigh, inching higher, teasing her as they brush against the edge of her panties. i feel the heat radiating off her, and it makes my mouth water.

suddenly, i drop to my knees in front of her, feeling the rough carpet beneath me, my hands sliding up the smooth skin of her thighs, pushing her dress up higher.

she gasps softly, her fingers threading into my hair, tugging lightly. "dani, we're in a cloakroom," she protests, but there's no real conviction in her voice, just a breathless excitement.

"exactly," i reply, grinning up at her. "and i paid good money for some privacy, so i'm goin' to make the most of it."

i hook my fingers around the waistband of her panties, slowly sliding them down her legs, feeling her shiver as the cool air hits her skin.

"god, you're so beautiful," i murmur, my voice husky with need as i look up at her. she's biting her lip, her cheeks flushed, eyes dark with desire.

i press a kiss to the inside of her thigh, feeling her muscles tense under my lips. "dani..." she breathes out, her voice trembling, and i feel a surge of satisfaction knowing i've got her right where i want her.

i don't waste any more time. i part her thighs wider, sliding my hands up to grip her hips, pulling her closer to the edge of the bench. she's already wet, and the sight of her like this, laid out for me, makes me groan softly.

i lean in, my breath hot against her sensitive skin, and press a slow, deliberate kiss right on her clit before extending my tongue to her opening.

i take my time, my tongue moving slowly, exploring every inch of her, savouring the taste of her. her breathing quickens, her hips moving in rhythm with my mouth, and i can feel her thighs trembling under my hands.

"you taste so good, baby," i murmur against her, my voice muffled by her skin.

she moans, her head rolling to the side, and i feel her body arching, pressing closer to me, wanting more. i slide my hands up her thighs, gripping her hips tighter, holding her still as i suck gently on her clit, feeling the way she shudders beneath me.

"oh god, dani, please," she whines, her voice breaking on the last word, and it's music to my ears. i hum against her, the vibration making her gasp, her body tensing as i increase the pressure, my tongue moving faster, more insistent.

her legs start to shake, her fingers pulling harder at my hair, and i know she's close. i press harder, flicking my tongue just the way i know she likes, and her moans grow louder, echoing in the small, confined space of the cloakroom.

"that's it, baby," i whisper against her, my fingers digging into her hips, encouraging her. "come for me mi amor."

and she does, with a sharp cry, her body tensing, thighs squeezing around my head as she comes undone, her breath coming in short, ragged gasps. i hold her through it, my mouth moving gently, soothing her as she rides out her orgasm, her body trembling against me.

when she finally relaxes, her body going limp, i pull back, pressing soft kisses up her thighs, up to her stomach, before standing back up. she's still breathing heavily, her cheeks flushed, eyes glazed with satisfaction.

without a word, my finger leads her chin towards me and we crash lips. just so i can i make sure she knows how she tastes. i pull back slightly to look down at her.

i smile down at her, brushing a thumb over her swollen lips. "you okay?" i ask, my voice soft, teasing.

she nods, a lazy smile spreading across her lips. "yeah, just...wow, that was a lot." she breathes out, still catching her breath.

"don't start shit you can't handle then," i murmur, leaning down to kiss her gently, tasting the sweetness of her lips mixed with the salt of her own pleasure. i pull her off the bench and into my arms. "ready to go home mama?"

"yes," she breathes out, her voice soft but sure, her eyes locking onto mine with a tenderness that makes my chest ache in the best way possible.

i smile, brushing a strand of hair from her face, tucking it behind her ear. "good, because i'm not done with you yet," i whisper, letting my lips graze her ear, feeling her shiver in my arms.

she giggles softly, a sound that's music to my ears, and she presses her forehead to mine. "you know, i love being a lesbian." she exclaims and i couldn't help but throw my head back and laugh.

"do you now?" i tease, still chuckling, pulling her closer against me, feeling the rise and fall of her chest against mine.

"yeah, it has its perks," she says with a sly grin, her fingers tracing the line of my jaw. "especially when i get to be with you."

i grin down at her, my heart swelling in my chest. "well shit, i love it too i guess."

she tilts her head back, her laughter filling the tiny cloakroom.

there's nowhere else i'd rather be.

"let's get out of here," i whisper, "before we get kicked out for real this time."

she grins, but then glances down, extending her hand. "actually, i'm going to need my underwear back," she says pointing at her panties neatly tucked in my pocket.

i smirk, tugging her closer instead. "no, you don't," i murmur, slipping my fingers through hers and pulling her toward the door. she tries to protest, but her laughter gives her away as we make our way out.
