Chapter 7

"Miss? Miss? Are you okay?" I felt someone jab at my tired body.

I tiredly lift my head and looked at the person in front of me. Sam. I read on his name tag pinned to his green apron.

"I'm fine. Sorry, didn't mean to knock out." I yawned, stretching my body. Wiping the sleepiness from my eyes, I looked back at the guy.

He looked at me with confusion. "What time is it?" I questioned, fishing my phone out of my backpack.

"Oh it's 5:36 in the morning. I had just started my shift, would you like for me to make anything for you?" He replied back, his hands laid out in front of me from across the counter.

"No, no it's okay." I replied back, clearly embarrassed being woken up at my state.

"It's on the house." He cheered up. I looked at him, something glinting in his eyes.

"Can you make me something to wake me up?" I questioned, sitting back into the chair.

He started to stand up, "Of course...my name is Sam by the way." He shook his hand out.

I looked at it before joining my hand in his. "Ami." He gave me a small smile before walking away to make my drink.

I looked around at my setting. I was the only one in the cafe besides Sam, only a few people lingering around outside, some walking with a meaning. They all had something in common. They all had suitcases by their side.

I looked over at mine that was just between my feet under the counter, my head started to pound once more. It's too early for this shit.

I rubbed my temple, my eyes shut hoping it'd ease the pain. "Here you go." A voice interrupted.

Sam put a warm drink in front of me, steam still rising from the cup.

"Thank you." I blew on it softly, before taking a sip. The warm fluid making its way own my throat.

"So why is pretty girl like you here at the airport at this hour?" He asked, he started to wipe down the counter with a rag in his hands.

"I'm flying over to L.A." I said, ignoring his compliment.

"What for?" He said, looking back at me.

Shit. I knew I wasn't supposed to say for a movie, it was never in my contract, but I like the secret.

"Just visiting some friends." He made a face to acknowledge that.

"I'm assuming you're 17 or something, why are you taking a shift here so early?" I asked, continuing the conversation. The warm cup in my hands, burning my palms.

"Eh just to make some cash, school starts again tomorrow so I won't be able to take as many as I used to." He shrugged his shoulders at me.

I was about to ask another question when I heard a bell ring from my side. I glanced over to see a middle age couple walk in and get in line, looking over the menu. I faced back to Sam to see he was standing up straight, looking from me to the couple.

I started to gather up my things. "I should get going...it was nice meeting you Sam." I gave him a smile. Taking out my phone, I saw to see it was already 6:09 am.

"Hey Sam?" I piped up, to see he was already staring at me, "is the bookstore open?"

He chuckled, "It should be."

Putting the backpack over the shoulder, "Great, thank you." And I started to make my way toward the door.

"It was nice meeting you Ami!" He yelled out, turning back we shared a smile.

Then I made my way towards the bookstore.

———————————————————

A Few Hours Earlier...

I laid in bed staring at my ceiling, the occasional sounds of cars passing by could be heard from the slightly opened window by my side of the bed. Looking out, the warm glistening glow of the moon filled my room.

I glanced at my clock to see 1:03 in the morning. I haven't been able to close my eyes longer than five minutes since I've arrived home. A slight breeze came through my window, causing my body to shudder. Hurriedly getting up, I locked the window shut. As I sat back down, I turned around the room, there was not much in there. Only two of my suitcases were shut while one was open, the clothes I'd be wearing to the airport, neatly sat on top.

My flight was hours later, at 11 a.m., unfortunately Mrs. and Mr. Williams won't be able to accompany me since term begins today and I convinced them not to skip.

And not a surprise, my parents will probably be only dropping me off, no reason to take me in to the gate they say. I didn't care though, I liked the thought of being alone with no adults to watch me over their shoulder.

I sat in bed thinking, before I had a jolt of energy burst inside of me. I got up from bed and began to get ready.

Minutes later, I stood in front of the mirror, looking ready for the airport. Turning to my clock, it was almost two, What the hell am I going to do for the next hours? I already changed.

I decided to occupy some time, by preparing a lunch for when I wait at the terminal. Slowly and quietly making my way down to the kitchen, I opened the fridge.

I took out a brown bag, that was still filled with slightly warm bread rolls. Pandesal

I took it out storing it into a ziplock bag, along with some butter packets.

I was busy stirring some lemonade, when I felt someone clear their throat behind me.

Turning around in shock, I turned to see my mom. She was rubbing her eyes while she looked at me then to the food I was placing into my backpack.

"Is this for the airport?" She said, her voice still broken down by sleep.

"Yeah I couldn't sleep, so I'm just packing food." She began to make her way toward the fridge.

"Don't take all of the pandesal, the boys would get upset." I rolled my eyes.

"I know nay, I'd never." She smiled at me before sneaking a sip of my lemonade. She dropped some ice cubes into it.

"Are you going to the airport now? You look ready." I glanced down at what I was wearing. some nike sweatpants along with a black hoodie, airport wear at it's finest.

"It's only 2:34 nay." I replied back, pouring some of the lemonade into a water bottle.

"So? You can go earlier? You always liked the airport anyways." That's true, I did like the airport. I loved looking at the people faces, wondering and imagining what was going on in their life and where they were heading. It was the best place to study people.

"Yeah actually I can go now, I'll just go get my stuff and say bye to the boys and dad." I started to make my way towards the stairs.

"Oh nak, you don't have to say bye to your dad, he's still sleeping and he has work in a few." I nodded my head at her.

Grabbing my stuff from my room and quietly rolling it down through the hallway, I knocked on the boys room, opening it to see them still sleeping. I whispered a good bye to them and left.

Going down I rushed to meet my mom, but then stopped to see her laid out on the couch, eyes closed, mouth open.

I looked at her disappointed, but left a note saying I left and caught an uber to the airport.

Once I made it outside, I was met with the cold air, slush was on our doorstep as the morning dew filled our grass.

Ordering an uber, I leaned against the car, 3 suitcases by my side and backpack over my shoulder. I looked around at the quiet neighborhood, imagining all the families in their beds, no problem looming over their heads. They were all happy and loved every single person in their home. While I looked back at mine to remember, that now they were a happy family, relief washed over them as I walked out the front door. They were always happy, but never when I was in the picture.

——————————————————

Back to Present Time...

"Ami...wake up...wake up!" I woke up to see a brown haired boy in front of me, his finger poking at my body. I looked around confused, a book was in my hand and a cup on the table beside me.

"Louis? What- what are you doing here?" I asked, sitting up in the comfortable chair. Louis sat down on the chair beside me.

"I arrived only a while ago and texted you as soon as I woke up, but you never answered any single one of them! I looked around the airport till I realized you might be in here." I looked at my phone to see over 90 texts from him, including 3 miss calls and 2 voicemails. oops.

"Crap, sorry, I barely got any sleep." I looked back at him to see he was already trying to peer into my backpack.

"And yes I brought food." Louis jumped excitedly in his seat, grabbing my backpack and placing it onto his lap.

"I knew it, oh lemonade, thank gosh, I'm parched." He gulped down what I assume more than half of my drink. Making a refreshed "ahh" sound afterwards. "It's still cold too!" He placed the drink into my hands and continued looking on.

I laid back into my chair, closing my eyes, hearing Louis beside rummage through my stuff.

"What's this?" I heard him say, peeking through my eyelids, I see him holding a ziplock bag, a slightly crushed pandesal inside of it.

"That's pandesal Lou, a bread roll." I answered for him.

"Can I-"

"Yes, just don't eat the other one, that's mine." I interrupted, begging for some quiet, my head was still pounding.

"Am I supposed to-"

"Yes Lou, there's a plastic knife in there, to spread the butter." I interrupted again.

I heard some ruffling then a groan from the boy beside me.

"Oh this is amazing." He took more bites of his bread until he finished.

"Can I-"

"Louis no, that's mine." Snatching my bag away from him, I took out my pandesal, spreading butter around and began to eat it. Louis watched me with jealously in his eyes.

"You're so mean to me." He said, crossing his arms and laying back into his chair.

I looked at him in shock, "Not you calling me mean, Louis Partridge. You ate most of my food!"

He stood up looking at me, "It's not my fault you always have the best food." He rolled his eyes.

I started to eat my bread some more.

"Hurry, I want to get some Starbucks." Louis stated, rolling my carry-on by his side, his on the other.

I cleaned up my space, making sure to not leave any trash before placing the book back into its shelves and joining Louis at the entrance of the store.

Making our way back to starbucks, I noticed the airport has slightly gotten busier, taking a glance at my phone, I read the time. 8:47 a.m.

Louis then spoke up, interrupting my thoughts, "Hey we should get William and them something, I feel bad we'd be coming back with no gifts or souvenirs if we don't" I thought about it and agreed with him.

"Hey you know what we should get them?" Louis nodded at me. "You know those "my so and so went to London and all I got was this lousy t-shirt" shirts?"

Louis broke in laughter, I soon joined him, amused at my idea.

"We definitely should, I think one of the gift shops should have them." He then opened the door for me. I walked in to see a line flowing and Sam at the register taking everyone's order. We made brief eye contact when he noticed Louis standing beside me looking over the menu. I waved at him before he waved back, a friendly smile planted on our lips.

Louis then noticed me then looked into the direction of Sam, "Who's that?" He questioned as I moved up the line.

"That's Sam, he woke up me up after I knocked out in here a while ago." I answered as I scrolled through my phone.

"How old is he? He looks kinda young." He replied back as he rolled our suitcases in front of us.

"Our age." I answered.

"Does he have a girlfriend?" He questioned.

I perked up, knowing what Louis was trying to do with this conversation, "Don't know, don't care." I felt him stand up straighter beside me, his arm snaking its way over my shoulder.

"Good job, you passed the test." He teased me.

I hit his shoulder playfully, "You suck."

By the time I replied, it was our turn to order. We walked up to the register and I met Sam's eyes and gave him a small smile.

"Nice to see you again Ami." He raised his eyebrows at me.

I then felt Louis's hand interlock with mine. I looked at him as he was looking up at the menu, squinting, trying to read it. I turned to Sam who shifted on his feet as he looked at Louis and I's hands.

"Nice to see you too Sam." I cheered up.

"So what can I get for you?" He questioned, his eyes focused only on me.

Louis then piped up, grabbing Sam's attention. "Yeah can I have a Iced Vanilla Latte? A grande please."

Sam then grabbed a cup and entered his order. "Can I have a name for that?"

"Louis." He answered, "Do you want anything?" He asked, turning to me. I shook my head at him.

"Great we'll have it out in a few, have a good day." Sam answered in what seemed like a tight voice and gave us our receipt.

Louis and I walked over to the side as we waited for his drink.

"I think he's jealous." Louis broke out.

I looked up at him from the ground. "Sam" He clarified.

"He looked at us- well specifically you around 8 times since we have been standing here." Louis crossed his arms as I faced him.

"Are you jealous?" I asked him, he turned o me, trying to shake his body a bit.

"No I'm not." He cleared his throat. Oh he definitely is.

"Yes you are."

"No I'm not."

"Yes you are.

"No I'm not."

"Louis!"

A voice cried out, interrupting Louis and I's bickering, a drink then came sliding onto the counter. Louis then waked way to retrieve his drink.

"Yes you are!" I said after him, causing him to laugh.

Once he joined back by my side, he held his drink in front of me, "First sip?" I nodded my head, taking a taste. He then grabbed our carry-on's and started to lead us out of the now busy cafe.

"Why do you always get the most basic drinks here?" I asked, joining him at the entrance before muttering a quick goodbye to Sam who smiled back at me.

"Okay rude." He replied back, opening the door wider for me to walk through.

"Since uh when?" I said, doing the same hand movements Chris Hemsworth did in that one interview I like to rewatch on the daily.

A/N ; THAT INTERVIEW HAS BEEN STUCK IN MY HEAD AND FYP FOR LIKE 2 DAYS LOLOL

"Did you just quote Thor to me?" Louis asked.

"Ok no I quoted Chris Hemsworth stupid. Separate the actors and the characters Lou!" I skipped in front of him, before passing a gift shop with some familiar looking shirts.

"Holy crap Louis! They have the shirts! Let's go, let's go" I pulled him into the store and to the section with the wide variety of shirts.

———

"They're going to have a laugh out of this one." Louis stated as I held the bag in my hands.

"They better, we're fucking hilarious for this." I replied back.

"Flight 25B to LAX will be boarding soon. I repeat, Flight 25B to LAX will be boarding soon." The intercom boomed over us. Louis and I looked at each other before interlocking hands and hurriedly walked towards our gate.

Luckily we got there in time to see a line starting to form. "Excuse me, sir." Louis tapped a middle age man at the end of the line on his shoulder. "Did they start boarding?"

He turned to us, "They only started, but they're doing first class right now." He answered for us, in a friendly voice before turning back to the front.

"Great, we're on time." Louis said, turning to me.

"Great." I said, leaning my head against Louis's shoulder as we moved slowly up the line.

"You tired?" He asked me.

I yawned a bit, before grabbing my ticket out of my bag, "Just a bit, I didn't get much sleep."

He smirked at me, "Stayed up thinking about me huh?" He nudged my shoulder.

"You are so full of yourself Mr. Partridge." I replied, grabbing his ticket out of his hands and giving it to the flight attendant to check us in.

Walking down the tunnel that leads us onto the plane, Louis and I's hands were still interlocked though I didn't mind.

Louis walked in front of me since he's been pulling both of our carry-on's, when I realized he walked into the plane without doing a tradition.

"Louis! Louis come back here!" Louis walked back to me who was still at the entrance.

"What's wrong?" He asked, worry in his eyes.

"You have to pat the plane before entering!" I answer back, voice slightly a little louder to be heard over the jets.

Louis looked at me confused, "Huh?"

I rolled my eyes at him. "Watch me." I walked up to the door, then took my right hand and planted it against the cold surface on the plane and walked in.

Louis did the same. "Great we're going to have a great flight." I nodded at him before I walked to find out seats.

Louis pushed our carry-on's deeper into the shelves above our seat before sitting into his chair right next to me. I was putting my backpack by my side, taking out my blanket and spreading it across my body.

"Hey me too!" Louis exclaimed, taking a side of the blanket and putting it over his legs. Our seats were made to be like if we were to lay them down it'd look like a bed, only the middle being separated by a line that we held remotes to the tv and we can connect our headphones to.

I yawned as I laid back into my seat, closing my eyes. "I'm going to sleep Lou, I'm tired."

He turned to me, slightly lifting my head and putting his arm underneath, removing my hair that got stuck as well. "Okay darling." He then pulled my head closer into his chest and kissed my forehead.

"Goodnight."

"Goodnight Lou" I mumbled back, closing my eyes.
