Rays of sun that had finally struck through the makeshift door of the hut warmed Kageyama's skin to the point where he woke up from feeling too hot.
It was humid outside, of course. Hinata, as always, was nowhere to be seen. He had gone away to gather food early in the morning, they couldn't do much the day before as it rained the whole day. Still, they managed to dig around the new hut, gather some roots. As Kageyama opened the door and let the humidity in, he found himself coughing. All the dust had raised, clogging up his nose and making him cough and sneeze profusely.
Yuck.
The sun had already dried the ground around the hut and on the hut. It was nice to have protection from the wind. He quickly scanned his surroundings, appreciating the colourful jungle birds sitting on relatively low branches. The only one missing was Hinata, how long has he been gone? Judging from the sun, it was already close to midday. Has he gone too far? Did he get hurt?
Just as Kageyama thought that, he heard the branches snapping under someone's feet, the pace was fast and the steps seemed heavy. Hinata presented himself in full beauty, full of new scratches - yet he had a smile on his face. Behind himself he dragged his award, a wild boar.
"Holy shit, did you catch that?" Kageyama's eyes widened at the size of the boar. It's teeth were extra large. Hinata nodded and showed off his makeshift bow and knife which he used to take down the wild beast.
From how Hinata gestured it to Kageyama, he waited till it was alone, fired an arrow and jumped on the back of the boar in order to take the life out of it. Gruesome, but also genius.
They, however, needed to work fast. It was midday, the sun was scorching the ground and they needed to work on the boar before it starts rotting. Kageyama considered himself an expert, after all he had taken extra courses in biology, he knew just where to cut in order to separate the limbs.
Around two hours into a rather terrifying activity, a thunderstorm rolled in, starting off as light rain and growing into a storm, but that didn't phase the boys. They were safe enough, protected by tens of trees and their branches. Kageyama couldn't help but feel dizzy nevertheless, his head was pounding, yet he wanted to finish what he started.
Hinata must have noticed as he gestured Kageyama to go back to the hut, but the other refused. Bad choice, if I may say so. A few more hours in and it seemed like the job was done, Hinata started a fire and was looking forward to cooking up some meat, he hadn't eaten boar in a while, this was like wild barbecue!
One |slight| problem, Kageyama's headache got worse, he found himself leaning against a tree, barely holding onto his consciousness. Everything around him was spinning, he couldn't even keep his eyes open. He heard Hinata saying something, ah his voice was like music to his ears, too bad he couldn't make out any words.
Everything was a blur.
He took a few more steps in Hinata's direction before the world around his collapsed. Everything went black, yet his world kept spinning. It felt as if he was falling into a bottomless void, spinning and spinning...
Hinata, on another hand, experienced an emotion he hadn't felt in a long time - panic. He watched as Kageyama fell face first onto ground, he didn't move, his breathing was unsteady. For a moment there Hinata stood in his place, frozen in panic and fear, he managed to gather himself up and ran to the taller male.
He flipped him around, immediately washed the mud off his face and pressed his ear to his chest. His heart was beating rapidly, not to mention his breathing was heavy. His body felt hot, way too hot. Hinata pressed his forehead against Kageyama's, so it was true.
He was burning up, he had a fever. Hinata cursed at himself for not being able to protect him, he should have hunted more to make sure he has a warm cloak, he should have been better, he should have protected the one human, the one being that made him feel...loved.
After all these years of being deprived of simple human contact, after all those days of craving a simple humanly touch - Kageyama appeared in his life. He gave him everything that Hinata could ever ask for. Love, warmth, friendship. Hinata couldn't help but recall the night they stargazed, Hinata pretended to be asleep as he listened to Kageyama's endless rants about how lovely he was and about how Kageyama never wishes for them to be away from each other.
However, this was reality. Kageyama was not accustomed to the harsh jungle weather, to the cold nights and hot days..
Hinata was....selfish. He wanted Kageyama to himself. Kageyama was his and yet... he could have taken him back months ago. He knew his way around the jungle, he knew how to get out, but he didn't leave himself as he was already used to this life. If he was to leave, the world would be all over him, he didn't want attention - he could have saved Kageyama from an illness.
Yet he didn't.
Because Kageyama brought the light back into his life and as long as he was there, he was invincible.
