(😝)

A little over two hours ago, Amelie and Colby had decided that it was best if Amelie stayed the night at his, seeing as they were leaving quite early in the morning to get on a flight to Ohio.

She had texted into the "deranged new girl" group chat about the possibility of her getting kidnapped by the three men she was going with, to which she was laughed at.

As Amelie locked her car, she heard her name being called to her right. Like any normal person she turned to the side to face the voice that spoke. Unfortunately for her, the last person she'd wanna see had called her.

"Hey!" Callum said, jogging over to her.

Amelie sighed, silently cursing herself out for not being fast enough. She forced a smile on her face, which he quickly caught onto, but never brought it up.

"Hi!" She coughed out, wanting nothing more than to die on the spot.

"Hi," He said, almost breathlessly, which made her take in his appearance. Running shorts, white t-shirt, running shoes and small beads of sweat forming on his forehead.

Why does everyone run? She thought bitterly to herself, losers.

Before she could say anything or cowardly run away, he spoke, "I wanted to apologise about the other week. It was like an unintentional ambush." He apologised and Amelie wanted to punch him. He pay have done her so dirty in the past and acted like nothing happened on new years whilst being 'introduced', but he had always been a kind person, "If I had have known you guys were friends I would have never went."

Amelie shrugged, not really knowing what to say, yet also not wanting to say a single thing, "It's cool. How could you have known anyway?"

"Yeah," He laughed awkwardly. After a moment of disturbing silence, Callum ran a hand through his hair, which was notably shorter than when she had known him last, she didn't have time to notice on new years as she was too busy glaring at him.

That was three years ago through. Of course he had changed, much like herself. His once long hair was now shaved down a few inches from his scalp - just like Amelie had threatened to breakup with him if he ever got his hair like - and she hated him for suiting it so well. Her once black hair that flowed down her back was now a light brown cut just below her shoulders.

She noticed his one soft features from years ago were not noticeable sharper than they had been.

Amelie pointed to the house in front of her, "I should really go..."

"Oh, right!" He stepped to the side, no longer trapping her against the car, "Hey, Ams!" He called after her as she crossed the road.

And in that moment, she felt like her sixteen year old self was about to resurface. She turned around, and nodded at him, egging him to continue.

"Do you wanna get a drink or something, sometime?" When he saw her visibly stiffen, his hands shot up in front of him, "Not like that." He said, making all worries of him wanting anything flee from her mind, "It might be good to finally talk things through."

She hated how well he knew her. Hated him. But she didn't really though, she hasn't hated him in over a year. She didn't forgive her, per se, but she didn't hate him. She may hate what he had done however in the past year she had grown, and evidently so had he.

She did want to catch up with him because despite what had happened between them, he had been her friend since she was ten.

"I don't think that's a good idea." She admitted.

His face dropped, but he understood why she didn't want to, "That's okay."

She smiled across the road at him, her flushed, embarrassed face being exposed under the streetlight.

"I'll see you around, Amelie." He sent her a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes and began walking back to his house.

She turned back around to knock on the door, but before she could reach it, she did something she hoped he wouldn't make her regret.

"Cal!" She shouted, watching as he quickly came back into her view. When she saw his face, her stomach turned and she didn't know if it was nervous or the fact she knew she would get an earful from Colby once she walked in the door, she knew he was standing behind the front door, she had texted him three minutes stating she was outside and she had heard someone - she was assuming it was in - shuffle a few seconds ago. "Is your, uh- Is your number still the same?"

His face lit up, "Yeah!" He said enthusiastically, before wiping the childlike smile from his face and standing up straighter, "I mean, yes. It's still the same."

She laughed at his embarrassment, "That's good to know."

"I guess it is."

She waited until she felt as though he had gone into her house and then finally turned around. She put her first up to knock, but the door was opened for her.

"Have you lost your mind?" Colby asked when his eyes landed on her.

Amelie smiled up at him, "Hello, beautiful."

"Have you lost your mind?" He asked again as Amelie went underneath his arm that held the door open.

"Have you?" She questioned, as she walked further into the house.

Colby rolled his eyes, closed the door behind himself and followed after her, "Are you actually gonna go out with him?"

Amelie fell down onto the couch once she reached the sitting room. She tucked her legs underneath herself and shook her head, "What, no!" He stared her down for a while until she sighed and closed her eyes, "I-I don't know. Maybe? What's it to you?!"

He shrugged and sat down next to her, "You two are so confusing." He whispered beneath his breath.

"What the hell does that mean?"

"Sam's on a date. You're texting your ex-"

Amelie cut him off, "Sam's on a date?" She asked, ignoring the end of his sentence.

Colby tried to hid a smirk when he noticed Amelie's furrowed brows - was that jealousy he smelled?

He nodded.

"Why?"

"When people like each other they tend to go on a date - except for you two idiots." He smiled sweetly while she glared at him, "You'd rather dance around it."

"Is she pretty?" She asked, once again ignoring everything but the fact Sam was on a date, "Does he like her?"

"I don't know if he likes her likes her, but I think he wants to."

Amelie frowned, "He wants to?"

"They've only known each other, like, a week or two?"

"Two weeks?!" She shouted, her eyes going wide. She dropped the two bags she was holding and put her hands on the side of her face, "I'm a horrible person! Oh, my God!" She then glared at Colby, "You knew he was talking to someone and you let me flirt with him?!"

"You flirt with everyone! You flirt with me!"

"That's different!" She growled out, "I flirt with you because you flirt back! I flirt with him because I like him!" She shouted and then clamped her hands over her mouth, realising what she said.

"What did you just say?" He asked slowly, watching as her eyes watered.

"Not a word to Sam." She mumbled, walking past Colby, leaving him to stare after her with a proud smile.

One step closer.
