"so, kuroo is not gonna be here today?" akaashi asked as he leaned on the counter, admiring kenma's skills in flipping pancakes. there was something in the way he managed to move the pan perfectly, each pancake would flip exactly one and a half times in the air until it landed perfectly in the center of the pan on the other, uncooked side. and each time, kenma would say "booyah" to himself.
"nope, he has extra classes, after that he is meeting his parents, and after that, he is going out with friends to play games, and then by then it will be too late and i will simply not allow him to come over." kenma flipped yet another pancake, once again doing it absolutely perfectly all while akaashi marveled at his skills - makes you wonder what else he is good at.
"oh i see, that explains some things. well, i have a day free, if you want me to stay here" akaashi said, watching kenma's head perk up, like a cat being called.
"yes, please. i would love it if you stayed. we can do so much. though i am streaming today but after that i will be free!" kenma turned to akaashi, and he eyed him up from top to bottom, even in this plain outfit he looked more than incredible. he was wearing a shirt kuroo had gifted him a while ago, one with some star patterns and a tiny otter swimming. adorable shirt, really.
"then, while you are streaming i could run and get some beer or something stronger. we could have a fun night" akaashi suggested, kenma raised an eyebrow in a suggestive way, clearly pleased with what akaashi was offering.
"hmmm, i'm definitely interested in that! okay, that sounds like a plan" kenma clapped his hands together as if satisfied with the plan of him getting shitfaced and doing something he will either regret or forget tomorrow morning, but who cares - life is about taking risks, right? that being said, kenma flipped the last pancake and started piling the plates up high with stacks on stacks on stacks of pancakes awaiting them.
as much as kenma loved spending time with kuroo and akaashi, being with just the latter was different - the two had yet to find out a lot about one another, and seeing akaashi actively offer things was more than better. the two of them stuffed their faces with pancakes before jumping back into bed to scroll on their phones and watch videos of questionable quality.
kenma had been researching some stuff about the game he was going to play, so while he was busy with that, akaashi found himself looking at various videos of animals and such. the two exchanged some words here and there, just enjoying each other's company. kenma told him various lore while akaashi ranted about the newest book he had read - it was a nice balance.
"ok, what else do we need from the store?" akaashi asked as he watched kenma get into his streaming gear, that being his merch hoodie.
"hmmm, maybe just some snacks? i mean, we have plenty of stuff in here but just get something tasty" kenma answered as he started pulling his hair up into a little ponytail, he had to keep up his look online. "oh wait..." he suddenly said as he walked off somewhere.
akaashi waited anxiously for kenma to come back, he tapped his foot on the ground as he stared at his own reflection in the mirror, all dressed up and ready to go. before long, kenma walked right back and put something into akaashi's hand - it was his mastercard.
"huh? why are you giving me this?" akaashi asked.
"buy with my card. you already bought a bunch of stuff, please, spend some of my money" kenma winked at akaashi. "now, hush hush! i need to go stream! i will be expecting you all hot and ready when i'm done!" kenma chuckled as he walked up to akaashi, standing on his tippy toes just to place a small kiss on his cheek before running off into his stream room.
akaashi just stood there, smiling until he shook himself out of his trance and decided to hit up some stores, i mean, with kenma's card in hand - he might as well splurge on a bit more expensive drinks.
well, it's easy to say but harder to do because some store employees will always try to sell you the most expensive crap possible. and so, akaashi decided to take his time browsing. he did have a few more interesting encounters on his trip to the stores.
in a general grocery store, while buying some oven-cooked chips, he was approached by a guy who very nonchalantly just asked him whether, and i quote, akaashi would "like to taste his bratwurst". a suggestion that akaashi kindly rejected.
in the same store, the cashier, an older lady, kept eyeing him - which wouldn't be the first time - but then she asked akaashi whether he is single and that her totally young, totally not already divorced daughter would be of interest to him. an offer that akaashi, once again, kindly declined.
at a high-end liquor store, an employee (as expected) offered akaashi a very bad drink for a very high price. how does he know it's bad? bokuto had bought it before, he was easy to fool with alcohol, and it tasted like actual puddle water with some gas. he ended up buying some nice beers and a bottle of whiskey which seemed half-decent and didn't put a dent in kenma's card.
overall, the trip was nice for akaashi, especially watching people's reactions when he used the mastercard. as he was making his way back, he decided to stop by and buy some takoyaki from the local stand, he and the owner were friends as akaashi was such a regular, he almost didn't need to say his order any more.
then... the most interesting thing happened.
kenma had just texted him that he was midway done. kuroo at that time was supposed to be either out with parents or with friends - so it struck akaashi as odd to see someone looking awfully like kuroo, lining up for some takoyaki alongside with someone who looked awfully like bokuto - now that could be a coincidence.
akaashi was open-minded, he could accept that he might be mistaken, but all that went away the moment he heard them talking - it was clear it was kuroo and bokuto. now a few questions arose: what were they doing together? why wasn't kuroo out with friends? why were they out together? what led to this? why the fuck were they out together?
before akaashi could answer, he saw bokuto slowly turning around, in turn, he quickly hid behind another person. maybe... he would get takoyaki another day - this was a problem for another day, kuroo was gonna tell them sooner or later anyway.
stepping back into the penthouse felt nice. akaashi loved the spacious place. he could still hear kenma slamming away on his keyboard, commenting as he was playing yet another horror game, what was it this time? the original silent hill games? spooky stuff. though his brain was still reeling from the takoyaki stand incident (we will only refer to it as the takoyaki stand incident) and the many questions that came alongside that.
he was only shaken out of his thoughts when he heard kenma say "thank you heyheybeebisone for donating a hundred dollars and to answer your question - no i have not had my feet licked ever", which was weird in its own right, but then again he is a streamer.
still, it was a bizarre turn of events, really bizarre. bizarre enough for a handsome british lad to harvest the power of the sun to overpower his adopted stepbrother who had turned into a gay evil vampire. but that's for another time. for now, akaashi was left pondering about what could have led up to it. and from the looks of it, it wasn't the first time this had happened, the two were chatting away like two old friends - something was very wrong here.
"okay guys, i have company waiting for me so i will see you later!" kenma's voice cut through another train of thoughts that akaashi was having. he continued saying bye to his viewers before shuffling around in his room and coming out the door, expecting to see akaashi, as he said before, hot and ready for him. which was half true, he was hot, not exactly ready.
"you good?" he asked as akaashi raised his head.
"yeah. i, uh. i saw kuroo" akaashi answered.
"and? was he embarrassing himself in public again? i swear the last time he started reciting the declaration of independence we were kicked out of the seven-eleven down the stree--"
"he wasn't doing any of that" akaashi interrupted him. "he was with bokuto?"
"huh?"
"yeah. same reaction. he was there, with bokuto, chatting away. i mean, i'm not mad but he should have told us?"
"i'm mad! that's the same guy who tried to have his way with you while denying he is gay and ruining other people's lives in university because he couldn't accept them! and now kuroo is out with him?" kenma fumed as he instantly dug through the bag and took out the beers.
without words, he handed one to akaashi. and i guess this is about the time where, in a movie, they would have a montage showing friends drinking and laughing and having fun! hooray! we are the protagonists of a cliche teenage high school/college movie who apparently do nothing but walk with books, talk to friends, and not work for a living because our parents take care of us. but instead, it was a type of angry drinking, because both akaashi and kenma ended up in a deep discussion about how to break kuroo's fingers.
"i can't believe he would do that!" kenma continued on his rant, sprawled out on his bed. "it's one thing to lie but to completely keep it a secret?! is this a relationship or what?!"
"i don't even know... and i do not want to think about it right now." akaashi said as he took a deep breath. "it's just me and you here now"
kenma turned his gaze to akaashi who even through his blurred vision still looked like an ethereal god from the heavens who had come to bless him, and only him. he watched as akaashi got closer and closer, getting into position just above him.
"oh, mister keiji, what do you think you are doing?" he said playfully as he reached his hands out to wrap around akaashi, but before he could do that, akaashi grabbed them both and essentially pinned kenma down to the bed.
"you've been real good, let me reward you" akaashi said. he leaned in, teasing kenma before placing a kiss on his neck, slowly making his way up to his lips. that one kiss, the first one of many that they shared that night, full of emotion and passion would become a start to an exceptionally long night...
