"dude... stop.." kuroo sighed loudly, annoyed by the non-stop coughing coming from his roommates side.
"i cannot stop it, kuroo. shut up and text your boyfriend instead" bokuto managed to say before sneezing and coughing again.
"oh shut up" kuroo stood up from his work table and stomped to the kitchen, angrily making a cup of tea for his dumb roommate. "it's morning, there are not many people in the clinic. just go and get fucking tested"
"but i don't wanna..", bokuto started whining like a little baby, "those nurses scare me. they keep commenting how good my arms are and touch me. i don't want them touching me"
"dude..."
"and what if they find something bad? what if i have lung cancer? the secondhand smoke i get from you must be taking it's toll on me"
"bokuto, i only smoke in the balcony and never in your face, go to the fucking clinic", kuroo may have sounded angry but you could hear the worry in his voice as well. "also since when has my smoking affected you? i try my best to make sure you're not affected!"
"kuroo.... i don't wanna...." bokuto whined again as he coughed into his elbow. he shifted his weak body on the couch as he struggled to maintain his blanket on his body. he whined again, and again, and again, making kuroo both worried and annoyed.
it's been three days.
on the first day of bokuto being sick, which rarely happens, because let's be honest, bokuto is as healthy as a cucumber and almost never gets sick, he only seemed to have a clogged nose. he told kuroo something along the lines of "tea which lemon and honey is a natural remedy, it always heals me" and went ahead to drink at least 6 cups of tea in two hours.
as roommates, they shared a living space. same kitchen, same living room, same toilet - different bedrooms. kuroo had no intention of getting sick now that his boyfriend was coming back to japan from an exchange program overseas.
bokuto's clogged nose was not a threat, the real threat came at night - the coughing started.
enter day two, bokuto was still trying to convince kuroo he is fine, even though he kept coughing every other minute. kuroo forcefully put a mask over his face, but that did little to no help - he kept drinking the tea, kept coughing, kept convincing kuroo he is fine - he was not.
by the time the evening came he was curled up on a sofa, a mug with hot tea on the coffee table - his body was shivering. his temperature had risen. kuroo considered calling an ambulance, but that would be a waste of the professionals time - all bokuto had to do was go to the clinic, get tested, get some actual medicine and get better...
unfortunately the giant man baby was afraid of doctors. you'd think that at the age of 24 he would act like an adult, however...
this was day three and kuroo was tired.
"if you don't go, i will call the ambulance" he said in a stern voice as he watched bokuto trying to hide under the blanket. "i'm not kidding"
"kuroo, please don't" bokuto pleaded, but kuroo's facial expression was enough to show that he wasn't kidding around or making an empty threat.
"you have a cold or you caught a flu. the faster you get antibiotics or something, the better it will be" kuroo sighed. "kenma is coming back, i am not going to catch your flu and not be able to see him after already not seeing him for over half a year"
"ughhh, fine..." bokuto groaned as he sat up, his head spinning. he hated hospitals and clinics.
he had his reasons.
being a small kid, he found himself there often - he got many injuries over his rambunctious childhood years and all was fine until... he had to move. he moved from a small town to a bigger one, to a new school where he met kuroo and to a new hospital.
back in his old town, the community was tightly knit so all the doctors and nurses knew him, but here... as he came into the hospital the first time, he found that his doctor was... insulting him? sure that may have been childhood imagination, but for some reason this big burly woman of a doctor didn't like him.
she kept making comments about how he is not the correct weight or how he needs to stop being so crazy and getting injured. the nurses were now not as sweet, but rather evil as they had little to no care when taking his blood samples or giving him vaccine shots.
he... got scared.
so as bokuto got his tall form out the main entrance to their apartment building, he found himself dreading the upcoming encounter. bokuto kept his mask on his face, avoiding people if possible.
he felt so vulnerable. to think that just last week he was jumping around and running miles seemed so impossible now.
as he walked into the small clinic that was comfortably situated nearby their living accommodation, bokuto felt a shiver run down his spine. he hated this. with small steps, he creeped upon the administration and stood there like a statue, waiting for someone to take notice.
"hello, how may i help you?" one of the administrators asked as she smiled at him brightly.
"uhm, i need to see my doctor. i think i caught the flu" he said, his voice trembling just slightly.
"okay, what would be your name?" she asked as she began typing on her keyboard. her fingers moved swiftly and quickly.
"bokuto koutarou", bokuto sighed, he had no energy to see his doctor. he would rather die in a ditch.
"oh! you're with doctor suzuki. unfortunately doctor suzuki is out on vacation now--" the administrator started saying. a glimmer of hope entered bokuto's eyes. "but we have a practising resident taking her place right now. resident doctor akaashi keiji will take you"
"resident doctor?", bokuto raised an eyebrow.
"yes, he is practising here. he has taken doctor suzuki's place for a while. don't worry, he has the qualifications." she typed something more before turning to bokuto. "since you didn't register beforehand, you will have to wait. please go to room 4 and wait. the doctor will call you in"
bokuto murmured a thank you and quickly moved through the hallway, it had that ugly green color that bokuto hated so much. akaashi keiji... huh. the name sounds nice, but considering he's a doctor, all bokuto could imagine was a big scary man with glowing red eyes.
the "benches" or whatever you would call them, were not comfortable at all. bokuto could barely maintain his posture ans he kept shifting every few seconds. he tapped his foot out of impatience as he focused on doctors walking around.
out of the corner of his eye he could see the door to room 4 opening and closing as patients walked in and out, but he paid little attention to that. bokuto felt like he had a rock in his stomach, weighing him down.
just as he was about to zone out again, the door to the room opened and...
"bokuto koutarou, come in" a voice spoke. the timbre was that of a perfect tenor, with no hints of strain in the voice. it travelled smoothly through the air without any obstructions. if bokuto was to compare it with something, he could compare that voice with spring water - smooth, running, fresh and inviting.
he voluntarily stood up and entered the room, looking down at the ground as he did. once the door behind him was shut, he finally raised his view of vision and looked at the man in front of him.
his heart skipped a beat.
he really did expect a big scary man with red glowing eyes, but instead he saw someone else.
he was almost the same height as bokuto, maybe a centimeter or two shorter, his broad shoulders held his white coat nicely, under the coat however was a demonstration of a perfect fashion style. a nice black turtleneck that wrapped around his body nicely, showing off the curves of his waist. a simple black belt held dark grey checkered pants in place, even though they seemed just a bit too tight around the thighs, the ends were rolled up exposing typical doctor shoes.
as bokuto's vision went fully up, he was met by the face of an angel. dark curly hair styled perfectly, an undercut hid behind them, but was still seen. his skin was just perfectly tanned and healthy, sparkling. he had round spectacles guarding his eyes. and behind the spectacles hid a treasure, like two turquoise gemstones staring at him, a perfect mix of blue and green - it reminded bokuto of a warm summer day by the lake in a forest.
"hello, i am substituting doctor suzuki, my name is akaashi keiji. please sit down and tell me what's wrong" he spoke, his lips moved so nicely that bokuto couldn't look away.
his heart skipped a beat again.
and again.
he experienced a wave of heart palpitations as his heart beat out of control, pounding in his chest.
"please go out with me" he blurted out before slapping his hand against his mouth.
a small smile formed on akaashi's lips and bokuto almost felt like fainting. when was the last time he felt like this? never, this never happened before. this was the first time his heart was beating out of control.
"sir, please sit down and tell me what's wrong" akaashi said, the small smile still playing on his face. bokuto obeyed and sat down, unable to peel his eyes away from this magnificent man.
"well, uh, i'm sorry i said that, i was flustered, uh... okay, uh, so i think i have the flu?" bokuto began stumbling over his thoughts. "i am coughing, sneezing, i had high temperature and feel shivers all over my body"
"hmm, does indeed sound like the flu, but you can never be too sure. any other symptoms?" akaashi asked as he typed something on his keyboard.
"uhm, uh, not sure. i do feel a bit weak" bokuto's eyes darted to akaashi's hands. his hands were not too big, perfect size. his long slender fingers glided across the keyboard hitting every key with precision. the veins on his hands and the prevailing knuckles made them ever so attractive.
"hmm, okay." he said before turning back to his patient. he adjusted his stethoscope and looked straight into bokuto's eyes catching him off guard. "will you lift your sweater for me please?" akaashi asked as he gestured bokuto to stand up before standing up himself.
bokuto jumbled out of his seat and... froze. for the first time he felt self-conscious to lift his sweater up and reveal his body. he hadn't worked out in two days, what if he lost his prized muscles? what if he doesn't look as good as he did before? so many questions, so little answers.
as akaashi cleared his throat, bokuto finally picked himself up and lifted his sweater. bokuto saw... how akaashi subtly raised his eyebrow and a small smirk formed on his face. as he pressed the diaphragm of the stethoscope against bokuto's chest, he closed his eyes, listening to what was happening inside.
"breathe deeply" he instructed as he pressed it to a different place. bokuto inhaled deeply and exhaled with all his might, watching as akaashi calmly listened to whatever was going on in his lungs.
and then akaashi pressed it against where his heart would be, now listening to the palpitations. bokuto's eyes fell on akaashi again, now his side profile which was more than perfect. his ears were pierced in three places. as bokuto followed the lines of his side profile, he found himself staring at the part of his neck, exposed and not hidden behind the turtleneck.
"your heart rate just increased" akaashi said calmly, making bokuto even more flustered than he already was. as he moved away, he smiled at bokuto and gestured him to turn around, now pressing the chest piece against his back.
facing away from akaashi was a struggle, but even more so now that he could feel akaashi's hands brushing against his defined back. once done akaashi quietly told him to sit back down and went back to his seat.
he opened the drawer and took out a tongue depressor, aka a wooden stick that doctors put in your mouth. "open your mouth", akaashi said and bokuto immediately obeyed - slapping himself mentally for finding those words immensely attractive and sexual.
open. your. mouth.
it kept echoing in his head like a broken record as inappropriate thoughts started protruding in his head. even if he was tied to a bed and was blindfolded, he would obey - but perhaps having a fantasy is not the best case scenario now.
as akaashi pushed his tongue down and shined a light inside bokuto's throat to examine, bokuto had become lightheaded from the experience. doctors were no longer scary, or maybe it was just akaashi keiji.
finally after what seemed like hours to bokuto, akaashi moved away. "well, it sure seems like you were right. it's a flu. i will write a prescription for you for these antibiotics, they should help you heal in no time." akaashi spoke as he typed something on his keyboard.
"oh, right" bokuto felt... disappointed for some reason.
"take them twice a day before eating. drink lots of fluids. if you don't get better within a week, come back to the clinic for an additional check up" akaashi said as he scribbled some weird words on a prescription paper.
"how long will you be practising here?" bokuto blurted out again.
"why would that matter?" akaashi turned to him and handed the prescription, watching as red faced bokuto struggled to find words.
"well, uh, you see, uhm...."
"just this month. doctor suzuki comes back next month" akaashi gave bokuto a smile before taking a small sticky note and scribbling something down. he attached the note to the prescription and placed it in bokuto's hand. "did i cause you any discomfort?"
"n-no! quite the opposite, i think you were better than doctor suzuki, doctor akaashi" bokuto felt his cheeks burning as he watched akaashi let out a chuckle.
"thank you, unfortunately, i have to see the other patients too, now" he said making bokuto's senses come back to reality.
"oh yes, of course, thank you doctor" bokuto bowed slightly before bolting out of the room, flustered and shaken up. the attraction he felt for him was insane and one more minute in that room with him could have resulted in serious consequences.
bokuto stopped in a hallway, catching his breath. he had to go and get his prescription. as he looked at the paper akaashi had given him, he flipped it and looked at the sticky note.
his eyes widened as he followed the line of numbers. the words below said:
"once you are not sick, i'd like to examine that body of yours. call me ;)"
bokuto bit his lip as he exhaled the air he was holding in. with newfound determination to get better he just simply could not wait to see his doctor again.
this time for a different kind of visit.

anyway, requests closed for now. i have plenty.
see you!
hatari.
