chapter twenty-two|| 🎬🤍🦢
❝ i'm a shameless caller. your a full machine ! ❞
gracie abrams really was a bad influence. three hours and a bottle and a half of wine later, valerie finally realised that.
she was pacing up and down the balcony of gracie and audrey's apartment, her phone pressed tightly to her chest as she contemplated jumping over the balcony.
she hated getting wine drunk, it just made her sad and when her phone was in the mix of yearning and disgust, and right now she was filled with a sense of yearning for one specific irish man. and besides her better judgement telling her not to dial his number, her heart was telling her to... and she always listened to her heart — well, to an extent.
one thing about valerie was, if you didn't pick up once, she would ring until you did. she never understood the whole "double text" shame. she did it everyday without a care in the world. you didn't answer her ten minutes after she texted you? you're getting spammed immediately.
she must have pressed on his name seven times before he finally answered. when he did, all confidence she had moments before shattered away when she heard his voice.
"val? are you okay? valerie?"
"oh, hey." she said, acting like she wasn't the one who had called him. she was originally going to ask him many many questions, but now her mind was completely and utterly blank.
"are you okay?" he asked.
she was silent until she got a shocking pain in her chest, "what is this?" she chocked out, her voice cracking got rid of any confidence she had left.
"what?" he asked, "what do you mean."
"this! us!" her lip wobbled. she was sick of it. she wanted to be with him. she decided it, but god knows what would happen if it finally got to it and he made a move. she was scared for that moment. she knew her mouth would betray her and she knew she would never back down from whatever she said, but in this very moment, as tears welled in her eyes, she wanted this, "what is this?"
elijah didn't know how to answer. how could he? what was this? he thought. he wasn't sure. he knew how he felt about her, and how she felt about him, but he knew how she was and he wasn't just gonna be another guy who got dumped simply because he felt the same way about her.
what was he supposed to say to her? he didn't want her to just run off. it was the last thing he wanted. so, he swallowed all his pride, "i don't know."
she sank to the floor, a lone tear falling from her eye. damn her and damn the wine. she regretted calling the second she heard him apologise before the line went dead.
if valerie could take the past three minutes back she would. and if she could take her fear of being loved away, she would. especially for him.
he didn't deserve this. he deserved better and she wasn't sure she could give it to him.
chat it's starting ☹️
