" 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘴𝘰 𝘵𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 "
A SLIGHT BUZZING SOUND interrupts a heated discussion between Stefan, and Tyler Lockwood. The vampire pulls his cell phone from his pocket, the screen reading Caroline.
Stefan glances at Tyler, thick eyebrows furrowed as he answers the phone. "Hey. Everything okay?" He asks, standing from his seat.
Only it isn't Caroline that replies. "That depends. How badly do you want to keep her alive?" A foreign, female voice says.
He freezes, "Who is this?"
"Ask your brother." The woman hinted. "Where's Tyler?"
There was a pause as a look of realization appears on Stefan's face. "Jules?" Tyler perks up. "Where's Caroline?"
Jules doesn't answer his question. "You made a mistake, Stefan. I'm gonna give you a chance to fix it."
"Where is she?" Stefan asks, his worry beginning to grow with every second.
"Right here. Want proof?" The sound of a rusty door opening, then the women's voice telling someone that he needed proof.
There's a few seconds before a gunshot undoubtedly booms through the phone, followed by Caroline's screams of pain.
Tyler raises in alarm. "What's happening?"
"Hurt her again and you're dead." Stefan threatens, anger simmering in his tone.
"I hurt her again, and she's dead. Bring Tyler to me, the clearing by Wickery Falls." She takes a breath. "Oh, and by the way, we have your little human also. I don't think you want proof, she's in bad enough shape as it is." Her words bring Stefan to a halt. Caroline has a chance to live, but one wrong move and they may never see Violet again.
"You have 20 minutes until they both die."
-
Violet comes to at the sound of Caroline's sobs.
The threat that Caroline posed meant she was locked in a cage, but Violet was left just outside of it, ankles and wrists tied together and tape covering her mouth.
There was a dull throbbing in her head, and all along her body. It took a second for her to remember that this wasn't her first time gaining consciousness after her and Caroline were taken.
The first time, she'd done all she could to distract him from hurting Caroline. Probably not the best idea, considering her very fragile, very human body. But it worked, the taunting insults she spat at him kept his attention on her until the pain from his lashes got bad enough to knock her out.
Caroline begged her to stop, but Violet knew from experience that she could take a lot worse than what he was doing to her. As much as the man, Brady, wanted to kill them, it seemed like Jules wasn't going to let him.
After a minute Violet could feel all of her senses coming back, the spots in her vision disappearing and sounds started to bleed into her ears.
"-many vampires are there in this town anyway?" She hears Brady ask, unaware that she'd woken up.
Caroline doesn't say anything, earning her a spray of vervain to the face. From a water gun, no less.
The vampire yelps as the liquid burns her skin. Brady hums thoughtfully, ignoring Caroline as she begins to kick the walls of the cage. "Why are you doing this to me! Why are you doing this to me? Why..." She whimpers in pain, slouching against the cage.
Violet watches in fear as he loads a wooden shard into a dart blower. "You're a vampire. Why not?" He quickly blows the piece of wood into Caroline's neck, sending her screaming once again.
Violet feels her heart clench at her best friend's pain, as well as rage that the two of them are being overpowered. She tries to yell, but the tape on her mouth muffles the sound.
Still, Brady hears it and whips his head towards her. "I'm sorry, what was that?"
She starts to trash around, yelling obscenities despite knowing that he can't make out what she's saying.
Brady smirks, wordlessly reaching out and ripping the duct tape from her face. Violet groans at the stinging pain on her lips and cheeks, glaring at the werewolf through the tears welling in her eyes.
"Let us out, you furry piece of shit! I'll kill you!" Violet's aware of how comical he probably finds this, a human who's tied up at his mercy threatening him. But in her rage, she can't bring herself to care.
"Oh, you'll kill me? What are you gonna kill me with, this?" He pulls out her prized pocketknife, twirling it between his fingers. "Not so tough without your little toy, are you?"
Violet kicks her tied legs out, just barely missing his knee as he moves out of the way.
He pouts at her, cocking his head condescendingly. "You are, aren't you? You know what? I'll be nice. Here, have it back."
Without warning, Brady twists the pocket knife in his palm and drives it down into Violet's thigh.
-
Jules paces the land around the RV, stopping suddenly at the feeling of someone's presence. She cautiously calls out into the trees. "I know you're out there."
From the shadows of the woods, Stefan walks into the light of the clearing with Tyler in his grasp.
"Where are they?"
"Locked up tight." Jules replies, arms still crossed over her chest.
Stefan takes a few steps towards her. "Let them go, and I'll release Tyler. It doesn't have to get any messier than it already has. I'm not your enemy, Jules."
The werewolf isn't shaken by his words. "It's a little late to be waving the white flag, don't you think?"
Stefan looks down, realizing he isn't getting very far with her. "You need to leave town. No one else has to get hurt."
"I'm not leaving without Tyler." Jules insists.
"Tyler is free to make his own decisions, as soon as you release Caroline and Violet." Stefan's negotiation tactic doesn't get the chance to make a difference before another figure steps into the clearing.
"My brother the peacemaker." Damon strolls over without a care, his usual smug expression present. "Since Stefan got here before me I'm gonna let him try it his way before I resort to my way...which is a little bloodier. So give us the girls."
"Let go of Tyler." Jules demanded.
"Give us the girls." Damon repeats. "Without a full moon it's not an even fight and you know it. We will take you."
Jules' head tilts doubtfully. "I'm not so sure about that, tough guy." With two fingers to her lips, Jules lets out a whistle, summoning Brady, and at least five other werewolves. A flamethrower, a crossbow and multiple wooden stakes are present as well, some of their confidence about winning this fight depleting.
"Let's try this again." She suggests. "Give us Tyler."
Damon glances back at Tyler, gesturing his head towards her. "You heard her. Go. Get over there."
"Which one of you killed Mason?" Brady asked as soon as Tyler is safely behind them.
Damon doesn't waste a second. "Uh, that'd be me." He points to himself.
"Boys," Brady points his stake at the vampire. "Make sure that one suffers."
Damon grins nervously and looks back at his brother. "We can take them."
Stefan lets out a breath with a shake of his head. "I don't know about that."
"Well then..."
The fight is a flurry of noises-gusts of wind from Stefan and Damon speeding through the trees, the roar of a flamethrower and grunts of pain coming from every direction.
Violet is barely conscious when Tyler stumbles into the RV, but Caroline gains a bit of her strength. Caroline is in the middle of trying to reach the latch of the cage when she spots him, her eyes igniting with hope.
"Tyler! There's a latch on the door and I can't get to it." She tells him, her arm sticking out of ten metal bars.
He doesn't immediately respond, looking from the two, badly beaten girls to the commotion outside the vehicle.
"Tyler?" He hesitates. "Tyler, please! I need to get to Violet! Tyler, look at her!"
Her words seem to finally get through to him and he rushes to the cage, flipping the latch and freeing Caroline. She pushes past him to Violet, making quick work of the ties around her limbs and gently removing the tape that had been placed back over her mouth.
"Vi? Can you hear me?" She asks, jostling the girl until her eyes blinked open. "Oh, thank god." The vampire sighs, helping her up and being mindful of the cuts and bruises on her body.
"C'mon, Stefan and Damon are here. We gotta go." Caroline tells her softly, pulling her towards the door.
At hearing of their rescue, Violet gets a surge of energy, probably adrenaline, and begins to pick up her feet. The two make it outside, no thanks to Tyler, but their freedom is short lived.
Before they can make it even a few steps outside, Jules has them both in her grasp, Caroline pinned to the side of the RV with a gun to her head and Violet's neck held in the woman's elbow.
Violet gets a glimpse of Tyler stood in the doorway of the RV, conflicted eyes staring at them, but making no move to help.
Then suddenly the pressure around her neck is gone, and Violet falls against Caroline. It takes her a minute to realize Jules, along with every other werewolf around them had fallen to the ground with their hands on their ears, like they were hearing something she couldn't.
"What's happening?" Caroline wonders aloud. Violet would've asked the same if she could form a thought fast enough.
From the tree line, a man steps forward. They recognize him as Jonas Martin and he steps towards them with his hands held up, no doubt with magic flowing out of them.
Stefan picks himself off the ground, staring at the witch as he catches his breath.
"Elijah made a promise to Elena."
The man explains. "I'm here to see it's upheld. You need to go."
Caroline gets her arms around Violet, helping her get to where the Salvatore's had joined.
Jonas looks between them. "Get out of here. Now."
The four of them begin to walk away, Stefan going to help Caroline with Violet when the short blonde mumbles her protests.
The vampires send her confused looks, but Violet ignores them. She limps a few steps to where Brady lay amongst the leaves, landing on her knees beside him.
Violet feels the pain in her leg radiate through her body, breathing in heavily and digs her hands in his pockets.
Her friends are clueless as to what she's doing until a familiar chrome glint catches their eyes, Violets pocketknife being pulled from the man's jeans.
She sighs in relief, looking back up at the others for help. Once she's secure in their grip, she looks back down at the unconscious werewolf.
"Not so tough now, huh?"
-
With enough insistence that she'd be okay for the night, and enough vampire blood in her system to make her worry for her life, Violet was able to convince both Salvatore's and Caroline to drop her off at home.
Even after the night she'd had, Violet still couldn't help but dread going home more than anything. She'd almost caved when Caroline asked if she wanted to stay with her, but she knew coming home as late as it was would get her into enough trouble and didn't want to risk it.
It's past one in the morning when she's finally home, and the lights peaking through the windows let her know it's gonna be a rough night.
Her step-father is in the living room when she opens the door, and she has a moment of hope that maybe her parents just forgot to turn the lights off before bed.
She closes the door as softly as she can, but there's a sudden grip on her hair before she can even lock it.
"Do you know what time it is?" His voice is grating in her ear. He was tightens his grip and Violet whimpers, feeling some of her hair being ripped from the root.
"I know, I'm sorry." She yelps, squeezing her eyes shut to keep the tears in her eyes at bay. He only ever got more angry when she cried, but it had been such a long day. "I lost track of time with Caroline-"
His hand left her hair, but the reprieve didn't last long. He grasped her shoulders and spun her to face him, hands holding on to her so tight that his dull fingernails began to dig into her skin.
"Did I ask for your excuses?" He hissed. The familiar stench of cigarettes and beer in his breath burned her nostrils as she tried to breathe through her pain.
"I've been extremely lenient with you. I let you live in my house and eat my food. I thank the lord you're turning eighteen soon and I can throw all your shit in the lawn. See how far you get being an ungrateful, little bitch." He was practically spitting in her face, and Violet feels a wave of rage wash over her. The culmination of everything she'd been through mixed with the shame she always feel when this man has his hands on her, because she knows she has the ability to defend herself and she can never muster up the courage to.
Violet feels in bubble up in her, like a pot of boiling water ready to spill over the edge.
A few drops spill. "You don't do shit." She mutters, heart pounding and hands trembling.
He stilled, looking caught off guard. The usual crazed look in his eyes only intensified as he processed her words.
His rough hand slithered up to grab her mouth between his fingers. "What did you just say to me?"
Violet clenched her jaw, using all her strength to shove him away. "I said you don't do shit! This house belongs to my mom. And half the time you're too busy being drunk off your ass you don't go to work-"
His hand strikes her cheek with a slap so hard, the sound reverberates in the room. Her throat is in his grasp before she can recover, squeezing tight enough to block some of the airflow to her lungs.
"You don't ever talk to me like that, do you understand me?" Violet brings her hands to try and pry his from her neck, tugging at his forearms to no avail.
A chime sounds through the house and it's a few seconds before either of them realize that it's the doorbell.
Violet can see his eye twitching. "Who is that?" He asks her in a harsh whisper.
She tries to shake her head, "I don't know." She chokes out.
He releases her with a shove towards the door. "Answer it. Tell whoever it is to beat it."
Violet inhales a few big breaths, panting as the air fills her lungs. She stumbles to the door, opening it just enough to peak her head out.
She expected Caroline or maybe Stefan to be checking on her, but to her surprise, it's Elijah standing on the other side.
"Elijah." She sighs, brows furrowing in confusion. "What are you doing here?"
"Jonas informed me it was you and Caroline who were taken tonight. I wanted to ensure you made it home safe." He explains, dark
eyes trailing the handprint on her cheek, and the bruises forming on her arms and neck. "Were you not healed?"
Violet didn't immediately understand. "What?"
She doesn't get an answer before her step-dad is hissing at her from inside. "What did I tell you?"
Elijah, of course, can hear him plain as day. His expression changes like he's putting the pieces together, connecting her fresh injuries to the male voice.
"Invite me in." He demands. "Now."
Violet stutters. "C-come in."
The vampire doesn't give her a chance to so much as blink before he pushes the door open, striding into the house with fury in his eyes.
"What the hell! Who the hell is this?" He doesn't get an answer as Elijah shuts the door and guides Violet behind him.
"My name is Elijah, you are?"
Violet's stepfather looks at the man in front of him, clad in a well tailored suit and visibly older than the teenager in the room. He laughs as if he'd heard the funniest joke in the world.
"Oh, man!" He points his finger right at Violet. "I should've known all of your excuses were bullshit. Here me and your mom are, waiting around for you to get home and you're out in the streets whoring yourself out for older men-"
Elijah has his across the room in a split second, pinned to the wall by his neck.
Violet stops herself from using a rude gesture and asking him how it feels to have someone stronger choke the life out of you.
She realizes then that there's a very high probability that her stepfather is about to be murdered by a vampire right in front of her.
She rushes to them, "Elijah, stop! Please, you can't kill him!" Violet sees her stepfather's eyes grow wide at the word kill.
The Original looks at her, hands still blocking the man's airflow while his face loses more color with every second.
Violet sends him a pleading look. Elijah huffs through his nose, releasing his grip just enough to allow the man to breathe. But rather than letting him go, Elijah's eyes stay trained on him. "Do you give them vervain?"
She feels a bit of relief, though not as much as she thinks she should feel for saving someone's life. "No. They barely leave the house."
Elijah ignores the man's panting and grabs his face much like he'd grabbed ahold of Violet just moments ago. "You will never lay a hand on Violet, or any woman ever again. If you even think about it, there are many people who would do unspeakable things to you in return."
Violet knows from experience that his words aren't just a threat, but a compulsion. As long as Elijah is alive, her stepfather won't be able to raise his hand at her.
But what if he does? Whatever Stefan and Damon managed to do to Elijah before didn't kill him, but it incapacitated him for some time before he found them.
It seems Elijah had similar thoughts, because he wasn't finished. "And should anything happen to me that allows you to remember this, know that I will be the least of your worries. Do you understand?"
Violet's stepfather nods mindlessly, still in the trance of Elijah's compulsion. "Now get out of my sight, please. Before my patience and respect for Violet's wishes runs out."
The man wanders silently back to her parent's bedroom, leaving Violet and Elijah in the living room. She's at a loss for words, really.
She'd never even come close to anyone finding out the truth about her home life. Any little bruise or bump could be explained away by the clumsiness Violet was notorious for. Everyone just knew her parents weren't the most hospitable people, and took that as reason enough to stay away from the house.
Violet didn't realize how shaken the last few minutes had made her until she had to blink away tears. "Thank you." She whispered, lowering herself onto the couch.
Elijah takes a seat beside her. "How long has this been happening to you?"
"My real dad died when I was six, my mom got remarried a couple years later. Didn't take too longer after that." She shook her head softly, like she'd said something wrong. "Not my real dad, I guess. I never knew my real parents."
The vampire tilted his head curiously. "You know of your adoption."
Violet was more confused that he knew of her adoption. "Yeah, it was all anyone talked about when I was growing up. My parents were struggling to conceive, so when some hikers found a baby abandoned in the woods, it was like a miracle. Elena's dad was a doctor who knew my parents and was able to pull some strings so they could adopt me rather than let me end up in foster care."
As soon as she let the words "a baby abandoned in the woods" fall from her lips, Elijah looked at her with a pained expression.
"What?" She picked at her cuticles anxiously.
Elijah hesitated and looked almost...nervous? What could possibly make an Original Vampire nervous?
"Violet what I'm about to tell you is going to sound ridiculous, but I give you my word it is the honest truth."
She felt her heart accelerate. "Okay."
"I have reason to believe you were not abandoned in the woods, you were born there. And not born from a man and a woman, but from the remains of the woman my siblings and I buried a thousand years ago."
Violet felt her head spinning, trying to make sense of what he was saying to her. "I don't understand. Siblings?"
"My full name is Elijah Mikaelson. I have four siblings. Finn, Kol, Rebekah, and Klaus."
She couldn't hide the hitch of her breath or keep her jaw from falling. "Klaus is your brother?
-
Stefan knocks three times on the door of Caroline's home. A second later she appears down the hall, looking confused to see him. She opens the door dressed in her bathrobe, any trace of her wounds completely gone.
"Hey." She greets, earning a similar response. "What's going on?"
Stefan shrugs. "I was a bit worried about you and Violet, after everything you both went through tonight."
Caroline looks at him as if he was an overbearing mother. "I'm fine. I just texted Violet too, she's all healed up and we're scheduled for a make up girls day."
Stefan nods in understanding. "Well, good. But, just in case, I brought some back up."
Elena and Bonnie pop into the doorway, their arms linked onto Violet's between them. Caroline is already in tears as soon as she sees them.
"We're gonna slumber it." Elena tells her tenderly, the first one through the door.
Bonnie smiles comfortingly. "We haven't done it in ages."
Violet follows behind them, feeling the weight of the night fall from her shoulders. The tears well in her eyes faster than she's able to keep them in. "I think we really need it tonight."
Caroline nods and laughs through her sobs, pulling the girls to her. The hug they share is emotional and it takes Violet all of her strength not to fall her to knees.
In the moment, held safely within the embrace of her friends, Violet is able to forget about her conversation with Elijah, and forget that what she knows now has the potential to scare away everyone close to her.

I had originally planned to tack another episode onto this before realizing this was almost 4k words. I hope anyone who reads this and has read the first version is liking the changes I'm making, specifically to Violet's personality and the way she's connected to Klaus. Of course you don't know how yet, I'm trying to be as vague as possible, hehehe. Let me know what you think
about this chapter and if you have any theories on how Violet's connected to the originals I would love to hear it. And spoiler! It's not the same soulmate trope I used before!
