chapter 07, the party.

•❃°•°❀°•°❃•

Night had fallen over the camp which had turned into a celebration where people were drinking and dancing. Rory however wasn't a fan of being close to people she didn't know so she was sat next to Tommy but was called over by John who had whistled to get her attention.

"I'm not a dog," she stated as she got closer to her dad.

"I never said you were, now come and meet Esme," he told her.

The blonde stalked closer to the caravan where her dad and new step-mum were situated, "You whistled to get my attention. That is basically saying I'm a dog. Can we get another dog?"

John looked to his daughter in disbelief, "Can you just come here before asking to get a dog?"

"So that's a yes?" Rory asked.

"Oh my God, Rory," he sighed.

"Hi, I'm Rory, well Aurora but you can call me Rory," she waved at her.

"I'm Esme," Esme introduced herself with a wave and smile. "And if your dad says you can then we can get a dog, yes."

"I like you," Rory smiled then pointed to John. "Say yes." She glared at him whispering, "Say yes."

"Fine, you can get a dog and a horse now stop with the look," he agreed and Rory smiled before making her way back to Tommy and Polly.

The boy that was at the betting shop had walked over to Rory, "No."

"Come on, one dance and I'll leave you alone," he tried to negotiate.

"No, I don't like you."

"Why not?" he asked standing in front of her to stop her from walking back to Tommy.

"Well, you ignored me when I was speaking to you at my aunt's house then you nearly killed my uncle," she reminded him.

"Well, yeah but that's done with now, we're family now," he shrugged.

"You tried to kill my uncle," she went on.

"Right but-"

"If I say yes will you leave me alone?" she asked.

He nodded, "Yes."

"Fine then," she sighed.

John, Tommy and Arthur were all watching the girl as she let the boy spin her around in circles. She wouldn't admit it but she actually thought it was fun.

"There, you had six dances now can I go?" she asked, her head spinning as she gripped onto whoever was closest to keep her from falling over. Said person happened to be Isaiah, "Don't move please, I'm very dizzy."

"I'm tempted to move just so you fall," he said with an amused smile.

"Isaiah, please I know you hate me but... I'm going to be sick," she complained.

"Not near me you're not," he pushed her towards Finn who had walked her over to behind a caravan.

"You look really pale," Finn commented.

"Either hold her hair or go get either John, Arthur or Tommy, Freya, Lottie or even Pol," Finn told him as the girl started retching.

Isaiah opted to stay with Rory while Finn ran to get John. Isaiah held her back and rubbed her back while she was emptying the contents of her stomach. "It's alright," he mumbled as he rubbed her back.

John and Esme appeared at the girl's side Esme letting Isaiah go and taking over for him even though he still stayed close to her but if you mentioned it he'd say he only stayed with her because Finn disappeared not because he actually wanted to be there and make sure she was okay.

"Why would you let him spin you around that fast and that many times?" John asked and Esme looked up to him while Rory was still being sick.

She wiped her mouth with the back of her hand before replying to her dad, "Because I didn't know it would make me sick."

Esme put her arm around Rory's shoulders, rubbing her arm comfortingly, "John, don't ask her stupid questions."

"Go sit down," John told her and she made her way over to Tommy.

"What's up?" he asked. "You look pale."

"I've just been sick and I don't feel well," she replied, her eyes travelled to Ada who was spinning around fast. "And auntie Ada is making me feel even more sick."

Pol made her way over to the two of them, "What happened? You look really pale." she commented, holding her cheeks.

"She's just been sick," Tommy replied.

"You should tell Ada to slow down," The woman said, glancing at the man as she placed her hand on Rory's forehead, checking her temperature.

"You think she'll listen to me?" Tommy scoffed.

"I tried to stop her but she's been drinking. She's been stuck in that little basement for weeks. What do we expect? She's going off like a firecracker," The woman said, watching as Ada spun dangerously fast. "Oh, Christ, Tommy, please..."

"Rory go make her sit down," Tommy told her.

"Did you just ignore the fact I've been sick or do you just not care?"

"Go," he said sternly.

"Fine," she hugged.

She made her way over to Ada. "Auntie Ada, come on let's sit down," she tried and held her hand out to Ada to grab. Instead the woman grabbed both her hands and started spinning her around making Rory feel sick again.

"Boys, go save her again," Arthur told the two boys and pointed to Rory and Ada.

Finn got up first and went over to his sister, "Ada let her go. She's been sick once already."

"Take her back to Tommy," he told Isaiah once Ada let the girl go.

"Enough now. Come on. Enough," Tommy started, trying to usher the girl away from the dance floor. "All right, Ada, come on, have a rest, sit down," Tommy spoke up.

"Come and look, Esme. Come and look at the family you've joined," She shouted, pushing Tommy away, while Pol rushed to her side. "Come and look at the man who runs it. Chooses his brother's wives for them. He hunts his own sister down like a rat and he tries to kill his own brother-in-law!"

"Ada, that's enough," Arthur spoke up.

"And now he won't even let me have a fucking dance. Not even at a fucking wedding!"

"Sit her down," John ordered, making his way over to his sister.

Rory got free of Isaiah's oddly tight grip on her wrist and made her way over to her dad and Esme. She looked over to see Esme looking unsure.

"I promise she's not always like this. She's just been stuck in her house that's like a basement for a long time," Rory told Esme who had placed her arms around Rory's shoulders holding her in front of her.

"Calm down, Ada. Ada, calm down," Pol soothed, as Ada panted and groaned, "Holy shit! Water right?"

"Not now, Ada," Arthur boomed. "Bloody hell, you do pick your times!"

"Christ," Rory muttered shaking her head, following her dad out of the camp. Ada and Polly went in Tommy's car which left Rory to go with the other adults who were drunk which made her feel uneasy because her dad wasn't the best of the drivers sober let alone drunk. She said a quiet prayer before getting in the car.

Rory gripped onto Arthur's arm as well as the side of the car as John drove the car to Polly's, "Dad, are you sure you actually know how to drive?"

"It's because the cars new, stop being dramatic," he muttered.

"I'm going to be sick again," she muttered as the car came to a jittery halt in the garage.

"Stop, Stop, stop!" Arthur called out, as the entire car shook. "Slow her up, nice and easy!"

"Story of your fuckin' life, Arthur," John retorted.

Arthur helped Rory out of the car as she resisted the urge to throw up again.

"Nice car, John," Tommy remarked. "How's she run?"

"Yeah, Beautiful, really smooth."

"If he's not driving it," Rory remarked.

"Go show Esme where Ada is," John waved them off and Rory grabbed Esme's hand before they made their way to the door which as if on cue was opened by Polly who ushered them inside.

"Your sister's about to give birth and you're talking about a bloody car?"
Polly interrupted from the doorway.

"Not much us men can do now, Pol," Tommy answered, dropping his finished cigarette to the floor.

"Except go get drunk," Arthur grinned.

"Right, come on," Tommy gestured for the boys to follow him before Polly stopped him.

"There's one man who should be here," Rory heard Polly say.

"You are right, Pol. Freddie should be here," Tommy agreed.

"Is that a heartbeat I hear inside that chest?" Polly questioned.

"The truce lasts till sunrise. On my oath," Tommy nodded. "Tell Freddie it's safe. Right, boys, let's wet this baby's head."

"Esme, what do I do?" Rory asked Esme.

"Just sit there or on the steps and stay out of her way," Esme replied as she kneeled next to Ada. "Actually get me some towels."

Rory rushed off before the woman could finish saying towels, wanting to be out of there. The front door opened revealing Finn and Isaiah, "Don't go in there!" Rory shouted to them from the stairs as they turned to go into the living room.

"Why?" Finn asked.

"Because Ada's having her baby. Stay out of her way," she rolled her eyes and the boys began following her upstairs.

"What are you doing then?" Isaiah asked.

"Getting Esme towels."

The girl stalked down the stairs and passed Esme the towels who thanked her with a smile watching Rory leave the room once again only this time to sit on the steps where Isaiah sat next to her.

"Finn, Freya and Lottie are asleep," he commented.

"Okay."

"Keep going. That's right. Push," They heard Pol tell the woman.

"I think it might be the wrong way round," Esme spoke up. "I tended three sisters."

"We're you at the ceremony bit or just the party?" Rory asked the boy sitting next to her.

"Both," he told her. "You just didn't see me."

"Thanks," she smiled. "I know you didn't want to be there to hold my hair back."

"I was only doing it-"

"Because you didn't know who was best to go to," she cut him off and he nodded.

Ada had stopped groaning and called, "You can come and meet your cousin now."

Rory jumped up and looked back to Isaiah who shook his head telling her to go on as he made his way back upstairs.

"Is Ada okay?" Finn asked when the boy entered the room.

"Yeah, the baby's here," Isaiah nodded.

"You know you can admit that she's not that annoying," Finn told him.

"What?"

"Rory. She's not that annoying and you saved her twice today and not because I told you too. You purposely stood next to her when that boy stopped spinning her around and you chose to stay with her when she was being sick."

"No I didn't. I didn't know who would be more helpful," he disagreed.

"Whatever you say," Finn shook his head.

"She's not that bad, you know," Freya defended her cousin. "If anything she's better than you."

"What's that supposed to mean?" he asked, clearly offended.

"It means, Isaiah, you're horrible to her for no reason. You act like she's the worst person on earth then next minute she's alright. Make your mind up because she deserves to be treated better than how you treat her," Lottie spoke up.

Rory sat downstairs looking at her now clean cousin. "He's so cute and tiny," she gushed.

"Do you want to hold him?" Ada asked and Rory nodded, "Yeah!"

"Sit next to Esme then and hold his head," Ada replied and passed Rory the baby, watching as Rory sat in awe of the baby. Watching as he stared up at her. "His little nose is so cute," she commented making the adults laugh.

Freddie burst into the house making Rory's eyes flit from her cousin to her uncle who had paused in the doorway at the sight of his newborn son while Esme passed the baby back to Ada.

"It's a boy Freddie," Ada smiled.

"And he's the cutest thing ever!" Rory spoke up a grin still on her face as Freddie looked over to her with a smile on his face.

Polly watched from the kitchen while Esme and Rory went into the hallway as Freddie met his son. The girl and her step mum sat on the steps.

"What's the deal with you and the boy that was holding your hair back earlier?" Esme asked, nudging Rory's shoulder watching as the blonde blushed.

"He says he hates me, that I'm annoying and that I talk too much and he goes out of his way to annoy me but he saved me twice today," she shrugged.

"Do you have a crush on him?" Esme asked with a teasing smile on her face.

Rory's reply was stopped by banging on the door again, only this time followed by shouting from the police. Esme jumped up. "Stay there. Don't move," she pointed to Rory.

"You can't come in here, there's a baby just been born!" She shouted as a policemen roughly threw her against the wall and pushed past.

Rory and Esme watched in horror as they kicked him and punched him out of the doorway and into the police car waiting outside.

"Are you okay?" Rory asked Esme.

"I'm fine go check on Ada and the baby," she told the girl who looked unsure but left when Esme gave her a reassuring smile. Rory walked into the living room and wrapped her arms around her aunt who was sobbing into Rory's arm. Polly had walked out of the door leaving Rory, Esme, Ada and the baby in the house.

Ada had stopped sobbing to talk through her sniffles, "Sit down on the sofa and you can hold him again."

Rory pressed a kiss to Ada's temple unwrapping her arms and walking over to sit next to Esme once again as Ada placed the baby in her arms and left the room to go upstairs.

"Have you got any siblings?" Esme asked.

"I've got four. My sister's are called Katie and Alice and my brothers are called James and George," she replied, tracing her finger over the baby's nose. "My mum's different from theirs though. I'm the oldest."

Esme hummed before saying, "You never answered my question earlier about-"

Someone cleared their throat making the woman stop taking and Rory take her eyes off the sleeping baby to see Isaiah.

"What?" she asked earning a tap on the shoulder from Esme, "Don't be rude."

"Sorry. What do you want?" she rephrased in the same tone as before making Esme roll her eyes.

"Wanted to see the baby," Isaiah shrugged and Esme stood up.

"Sit here. I'm making some tea," Esme told him as she stood up.

Isaiah thanked her and sat down awkwardly next to Rory who stared at the boy, "Neither of us are going to eat you, you know. You don't have to be so bloody awkward."

"Language!" Esme shouted.

"You've got the whole mum thing sorted already," Rory shouted back watching to see the baby still sleeping.

Isaiah looked at the baby with a soft smile on his face, "He's cute."

"I know, he's the cutest thing I've ever seen," Rory agreed.

Pol came back to see Rory holding the baby and Isaiah on the sofa next to them and Esme stood in the kitchen doorway with a smile on her face.

"Are they actually getting on?" Polly whispered to Esme.

"Looks like it," Esme hummed.

"Rory, you're sleeping at mine tonight," Pol called and Rory nodded.

"Can someone come and get him?" she asked. "He's getting heavy now"

"Your dad's outside, go say night to him and take Esme with you," Polly told the girl as she grabbed the baby from her.

She waved her arm around dramatically as she stood up with Esme following.

"Goodnight, Sunshine," Arthur said as he ruffled her hair and kissed her head as she hugged him.

"Goodnight, Uncle Arthur," she smiled.

She then walked up to her dad giving him a hug before saying, "Goodnight."

She finally hugged Esme and said, "Goodnight," and watched as they left, waving to her as they left.

Isaiah stood behind her making her jump and slap him, "What is wrong with you?"

"You're in my way," he responded

Rory muttered, "Back to your old self then."

Isaiah didn't say anything as he barged past her making her push him once again, "Stop barging past me and I'll stop pushing you."

"Or you could just stay out of my way," he shrugged.

"You're joking? You went out of your way to hold my hair back and take me back to Tommy and then sit with me on the steps and then sit next to me in the sofa with the baby, you could have sat on the chair but no you picked to sit next to me. Maybe you should stay out of my way," she huffed before slamming the door, not loud enough to wake the baby but loud enough to make the boy jump.

"I hate boys," she sighed before flopping down next to Polly, who was now baby free, on the sofa.

"What did he do?" Polly asked.

"He was nice to me earlier and now he's mean again," she complained.

"Ignore him," Polly replied tapping her leg. "Let's go to sleep."

Rory had got changed into her night clothes and crept under Polly's covers eventually falling asleep.
