chapter 46, me and the devil.

°•°°•°

Lilian had taken the girls to the old house since Rory refused to go to the family meeting at Charlie's yard. Tommy had tried to stop them but the look in Rory's eyes told him it was pointless arguing with her and she would go anyway.

"It's not safe" Tommy tried to tell.

She put her hand up. "I already told you, anywhere you are no one is safe now I'm going to get my Christmas presents from my mum and dad because they're not here to give them to me, do you understand?" she asked sarcastically.

Arthur had heard the arguing between the two of them and walked over, "Take a gun, Isaiah and Finn."

"Already got a gun and Isaiah is already coming with, leave Finn here with you lot," Eve told them and they nodded before letting them go.

After Lilian parked the car, the girls sat in the car bracing themselves before getting out. John's blood was still on the ground, staining the pavement along with Michael's and Rory stared at the blood not being able to take her eyes off it.

"Come on," Isaiah whispered, wrapping an arm around her waist.

"Will you go round the back and get to art stuff please? I can't walk around there," Rory asked and he nodded, walking away. She unlocked the door and went straight upstairs with her suitcase and packed the rest of her clothes.

Eve however was sat downstairs where John was sat 3 days prior, staring at the presents. "You okay?" Lilian asked, making her jump slightly.

She didn't tear her eyes away from the presents as she shrugged, "I honestly don't know, over the past 2 years I've gained a boyfriend and a family but lost three parents and seven siblings and yet my own mother and brother couldn't even care, they abandoned me because I chose the Shelby's over them because my mum was never there for me, yes she put a roof over my head but she never cared for me. John and Esme cared more than her, even you care more than she did."

"You remind me of me at your age, except I was pregnant with Rory and living in London but like you I chose the Shelby's, my father didn't like it because he believed the Shelby's brought nothing but trouble and he was right of course but they were my family and I hate myself for not putting up more of a fight to stay with them but if I had of stayed, you wouldn't have known Esme and Rory wouldn't have half the amount of siblings she has so maybe me leaving was for the best. You choosing the Shelby's over your mum and might not seem like the best idea right now because you have no parent figure but like you said they're more your family than she was so it was for the best," Lilian told her crouching in-front of the chair she was sat on.

The door slammed shut just as Evelyn was about to speak. "Rory in her room?" Isaiah asked, standing in the doorway.

"Yeah," Lilian answered and he made his way upstairs.

"I promised Esme I would look after Rory, now by extension you're her sister and Esme's daughter therefore like my daughter so I promise you now, I will look after you," Lilian promised smiling at the girl.

"Thank you," she whispered as she hugged her.

Katie's bedroom door opened since Rory wasn't in her room. "Your art stuff is in the car, where's your...suitcase?" he trailed off as he walked into Katie's bedroom to see Rory crying on Katie's bed.

"In my room," she sniffled, wiping her eyes feeling the bed dip as the boy sat next to it.

He silently wrapped his arm around her shoulder and pulled her into his side, rubbing her arm.

"I thought it would be easier, now it's empty just in and out but it's harder because I don't live here anymore, my dad won't slam the door shut anymore because he's too heavy handed and shout up that he's home anymore, Esme won't come into my room to tell us to go to sleep because we've been reading for too long or come outside to tell me to get the dogs and come in because it's too late to be outside anymore, Katie and Alice won't come into my room to steal my books and not return them anymore, James won't come into my room look in the mirror and leave without saying a word or closing the door anymore, Flo and Henry won't sleep in my bed when they have a nightmare anymore and I won't wake up to Mase screaming anymore and he won't remember who I am," she sobbed.

"Esme won't let him forget you and if they were still here what you do if you ever moved out? Come back just so your mum could tell you to go home because it's too late or your have your dad come to ours and slam the door and shout, "Rory I'm at yours, I'm going home now?" Isaiah asked and she laughed.

"I don't know what I would have done but now I can't do them things because they're not here anymore."

"Right okay so it's the not being able to do it because they're not here that's made you upset?" he asked making sure he'd understood her correctly.

"Yeah," she whispered, wiping her eyes and picking up her book from Katie's windowsill. She made the mistake of looking out the window to see the bloody pavement.

Isaiah instantly knew from the way her face paled that she'd seen the blood. "Get your books," he told her pulling her away from the window.

"If you or anyone had told me three years ago any of these things; Lilian is back in your life full time and even lives with you every other day, you got away from Robert and are now dating Isaiah, Michael got shot, your dad died and your mum took you siblings, you hate Tommy and don't really speak to him except to tell him how much you hate him I would have punched you or whoever had told me," she said picking up her books. "The cheeky bitch stole seven books, I only saw her read one."

Lilian had helped Eve pack her suitcase and put in the car before going into Katie's room. "You nearly packed?" she asked.

"Yeah, did you get the presents?" the girl asked and the woman nodded.

"Most of them, I'll come back for your dad's painting and the rest of them while you get unpacked at the other house."

"Okay, just need to put these books in my suitcase and I'm ready to go," she smiled and Lilian smiled back softly before leaving her to go and put her stuff in her suitcase.

The blonde took one last look at Katie's bedroom to see her wardrobe empty and open slightly, the drawers empty and still hanging open and her bed unmade. She looked over to Alice's side to see it in the same way only Alice's bed was made with a letter addressed to Rory on her pillow.

Confused she walked over and picked it up, under it was another letter addressed to Rory with Katie's handwriting and then two addressed to Evelyn, she picked them all up and tucked them into one of the books she was holding so she could read them when she got home.

Since she was too focused on unpacking her wardrobe she completely missed the letter on her bed that looked like it was from Esme, picking it up she made her bed and took one last look at her bedroom before leaving, suitcase in hand.

"You ready?" Lilian shouted up.

"Yeah, I'm just going to look in my dad's room I won't be a sec," she shouted back.

"Okay, well we'll be in the car," the woman shouted before going to sit in the car with the other two teens.

As she opened the bedroom door she immediately saw the two letters on the vanity. Next to it was a note that said, "Me and your dad agreed to give this too you on your eighteenth birthday and Eve's but since we're not here anymore, I thought you deserved to read them. Whether you pick to read them now or wait, I'm not bothered it's up to you two."

"Why is there so many bloody letters?" she mumbled to herself and picked them up.

She also took the photo that was left behind, Esme left it on purpose knowing Rory would want something with all of them in it. She also took the photo that was left of Rory, Esme and John at their wedding.

Holding two photos, two letters and her suitcase she ran to the car and got in. "Sorry, I was getting these," she breathed out passing the letter to Eve.

"What is it?" she asked.

Rory looked at her, "Are you joking? It's a cake. It's obviously a letter you idiot."

"I meant who's it from?" she asked again and Rory showed her the note from Esme. "I've two more in my suitcase from Katie and Alice for you." Eve nodded and Lilian started driving back to the house.

When they got back Isaiah had started emptying the stuff and passing them to the girls. "You locked the door didn't you?" he asked.

Rory looked over confused, "Yeah, why?" She then looked to the door that was open a bit.

"I definitely locked the door," Lilian informed them, looking at the open door confused.

"Go get Tommy from Charlie's yard now!" Rory ordered him in a hushed tone.

"I'm not leaving you," he argued.

"Go and take Eve with you, I'll be fine I've got a gun and so has Lily," she told him.

He looked unsure and looked between her and the door and then at Rory's glare, "The longer you stand here the longer we could be in danger, go!"

"Fine," he huffed. "Be careful," He told her and grabbed Eve and ran to Charlie's yard.

"You check downstairs, I'll check upstairs," Rory told Lilian and walked up to the door with her gun drawn and snuck into the house without making a sound. She looked over to Lilian who was checking the living room with a nod telling Rory to go upstairs. "Go get Arthur," Rory mouthed and Lilian did as she was told.

She missed the steps that creaked and walked up to her room which was the only room with the door open slightly, like the front door.

Inside her room, sat on her bed was a man dressed in all black, with a black hat on looking at a photo.

"I've been waiting for you to come home, Aurora," he spoke with an american accent making her blood run cold and shiver run down her spine.

"What do you want from me?" she asked with a shaky voice.

"Oh, nothing... yet," he replied with a smirk looking around her bedroom.

"Nice room, you grew up in this room right up until last year? When you moved house" he paused, setting the photo back down on her bedside table. "Up until your dad's death-"

"Murder. You murdered him," Rory cut him off harshly.

"Murder? Death? Same thing he's still not coming back. I came here to kill you but then changed my mind, I'm to kill after every one else but before I kill Thomas, just so he can watch you die, like you watched your dad die, in a way Rory, can I call you Rory? I'm doing you a favour because he has to watch another person he loves die just like you," the man told her.

She gulped. "Why are you doing all of this?" she asked.

The man looked at her, "It's the language of a vendetta, kid. Your uncles and dad took my dad so I took yours. If only they hadn't have done that you would have a nice Christmas with your mum, dad and siblings but instead you got a day full of crying, mourning and being abandoned."

"You're Luca," she whispered and it dawned on her that she was speaking to her dad's murderer.

"Tommy and Arthur will be here any minute and you'll be dead," Rory warned him.

He shook his head, "No they won't because Tommy won't believe them, he'll think they're trying to force you to reconcile your relationship with him so he won't show, I'm sorry Rory but your own your own against me but like I said, I'm not going to kill you today and I won't kill Evelyn because she's not a Shelby by blood so she's safe along with Lilian, I don't want to leave you completely parentless before you die. I'm not a monster but you will die at the hands of me."

"No, you will die at the hands of me, just like Tommy. I will avenge my dad," she spat venomously as he chuckled at her before his smile dropped.

"You just made yourself top of my hit list."

She didn't reply instead she glared at him as he walked out shutting her front door. When she heard it close she sat on her bed and broke down, she just came face to face with her dad's murderer and threatened him which made her top of his list, he threatened her and she didn't believe him. The door burst open, "Rory?!" Arthur's frantic voice travelled up the stairs along with Pol's and Ada's. They opened the door and all let out a sigh of relief to see her still alive.

"He knows where I live, he said I'm top of his hit list but he won't kill Eve or Lily because they're not Shelby's by blood. He broke into my house, sat on my bed and touched my stuff," she told them still crying.

Arthur pulled her up and into a tight hug, not letting her go and stroking her hair, "You're okay, you're alright. He won't come after you now."
