WHEN DAXTON SHIELD'S MOTHER PITCHED A GLASS BOTTLE OF ALCOHOL AT HER SON, who was shy of nine years old at the time, screaming at him in blame, services searching to protect the child came to take him away. daxton was covered in glass shards, wet, bleeding, and sobbing, still begging to stay with his mother despite how she treated him. his father abandoned him. she didn't. at least, that's how he saw it.

DAXTON BOUNCES FROM FOSTER HOME TO FOSTER HOME WITH FAMILIES THAT ENDED UP GIVING UP ON HIM WHEN HE SHUTS THEM OUT. at the age of thirteen, daxton lands in his latest home with the griffith's in derry, maine who are warm and kindhearted in a way he's not exactly used to. daxton meets charles, their other foster son and learns maybe blood can't mean as much as what he thought.

ALTHOUGH CHARLES LATCHED ONTO DAXTON AS IF THEY'RE REALLY BLOOD BROTHERS, there's no chance in hell daxton is going to spend time with him and his four friends. he'd walk his way through hell first. and there's absolutely no way daxton thinks richie 'trashmouth' tozier, his stupid, black rimmed frame glasses, and annoying trash mouth that runs a mile a minute is... anything material. not anyone to be with.

BECAUSE DAXTON SHIELDS KNOWS THAT A BOY WHO LIKES BOYS IN DERRY IS A DEAD BOY - unless he keeps his mouth shut, or if a clown with yellow eyes and razor sharp teeth gets to him first.
