Chapter 11
The past two days flew by in a blur. I managed to pack everything back into boxes in under 2 days. Lucky me.
On the Friday before I leave, Mr. and Mrs. Williams threw me a mini party during lunch. It was very sweet, they brought cake, food and they even got me presents. Mrs. Williams gave me a new book to write in because my old one was almost done and it was pretty ruined at this point. Mr. Williams also gave me a copy of the To All the Boy's I've Loved Before Trilogy. I almost cried. We made our toasts and proceeded with the party. Mrs. Williams brought wine, I didn't drink any because I don't like the taste of it, but they drank it and by the end of the party, they started to cry hysterically. All because I was leaving. Before I left school, they promised me that they'll visit me during holidays and gave me the most comforting hugs. I cried on my way home.
After school on Friday, a van that was gonna deliver all my boxes to L.A. was here, so my dad and I silently packed it up, no conversation brewing. It was so awkward. My parents also cooked food for a "Before Ami Leaves" dinner. That was also awkward. Even though the party was meant for me, it seemed like they were avoiding me altogether. They asked my brothers how was school and practice and if they needed help with any of their homework. All they asked me was if I made sure I got everything packed out of me room. Turns out they're giving my room to my other brother, so that's great.
Now, I'm at the airport getting my carry-ons out of my car. They were dropping me off 4 hours before my flight because the boys had practice and my parents didn't want to be late for that. Totally felt the love there. I made my way beside the car with my carry-ons noticing nobody came out of the car, but me.
"Uh, ok well bye guys, love you!" I awkwardly said.
"Love you Ami, please be safe. And make sure to let us know when you land. You also have your card and we'll make sure to put money on there every now and so." My mom called out.
I said okay and started walking towards the entrance, I turned around hoping to see my parents still in the lot, but they were gone.
I walked in anyways, luckily the airport wasn't too busy as it was only 8 and my flight was in the afternoon. I was waiting in line to check in and get my ticket, when I saw people running through a crowd. I turned around to see a red face Mr. Williams and an out-of-breath Mrs. Williams. I looked at them in shock. Mrs. Williams had her arm on Mr. Williams back as he was bending down trying to catch his breath.
"What?....What are you guys doing here??" I asked the two.
Mr. Williams was able to speak, "We um, came by your house because we forgot to take a picture with you, but you weren't home and your neighbor said she saw you leave your house already so we rushed here thinking you were gonna take off already." My heart melted. Although us three barely knew each other for 2 months, we grew very fond of each other. They felt like my second parents and I'm extremely thankful for them.
"Well I have 4 more hours till my flight so I'm pretty early." I replied, they were already standing up straight looking around.
"Wait where's your family?" Mrs. Williams asked. I looked down.
"They just dropped me off, the boys had practice and they didn't want to miss it." I muttered. I felt arms go around my shoulder. I looked up at them, they smiled at me.
"Don't worry, we'll stay with you till you get on that flight."
So there I was, walking around the airport with my old history and English teacher, we managed to explore the entire airport before we decided to wait at the gate. We still had two hours left till my flight.
Mr. Williams was on my right side reading a book he brought with him as Mrs. Williams was on my left discussing some ideas we had brainstormed together, jotting them down until I looked up to see the Partridge family coming down our way.
I smiled as I gave Issie and Millie a hug, shaking both Mr. and Mrs. Partridge's hands and nodding at Louis. We've been texting since he came over when I was asleep, though it wasn't that awkward, I still felt some tension between us.
"Hey where's your family?" Issie asked as everyone shared their words of hellos. I couldn't answer the question, I felt too embarrassed by the lack of love I felt from them.
Luckily, Mr. Williams noticed and diverted the conversation elsewhere. We all sat down, as the adults were talking, Issie, Millie and I sat together having a girls talk while Louis was by himself on his phone. Us ladies were talking about what we would do once we got to L.A. when I felt a ping from my phone. It was from Louis, before I opened the message I looked over at him, but he was looking at his phone, smirking. I hesitantly opened the text.
Louis
hey do you want to go get a drink?
Oh thank goodness, I thought his text was gonna be inappropriate or something, typical boys.
Azami
hey ! yeah sure i'm down
do you want me to ask Issie and Millie ?
Louis
no, it's okay, they can get annoying at times
Louis wants to go get coffee? Alone?
Azami
ahhh okok, let me just grab my bag and we can go
I put down my phone and grabbed my little backpack I brought, making sure I had my wallet in there and some girl necessities. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Louis get up from his spot and whisper to his dad, then his dad turned to me. I took even more time to gather my stuff up.
Louis was waiting at the end of the gate, when I jogged up to him, embarrassed if he was waiting too long.
Louis looked up from his phone when I reached him, "You ready?", he put his phone into his pocket.
"Mhmm" I nodded walking at his side.
"I saw a Starbucks around here, would you like to go there?" He turned to me while walking.
I smiled at him, "Oh yeah yeah sure"
"Great..cool" He replied.
"Mhmm" I muttered. Great now the conversation was awkward. Good job Azami. I rolled my eyes.
When we turned a corner there was big crowds, going through it you could easily lose someone. Before we carried on through them, Louis came close to my side, putting his arm around my shoulder and using his other to hold my hand. I felt my cheeks go red. Too much contact with a boy. I wasn't uncomfortable, just a little taken back.
We managed to find the Starbucks, by this time Louis had his arm back at his side and was holding my hand instead. It was this way until I pulled my wallet out after telling the barista our order.
"Woah woah woah, what are you doing?" Louis asked, shock all over his face.
"I um, I'm paying for our stuff." I stated while taking my card out.
He pushed the card back into my wallet.
"Yeah no, I'm paying for us" Louis gave his card to the cashier who was staring at us.
"Louis I can pay for it, please." Oh no, I started to sound like my uncles and my dad whenever we ate at a restaurant and they would bicker back and forth about who would pay.
"Darling please," He turned to me taking his card back after the casher swiped it, "I asked you to come with me so of course I had to pay." My heart melted. I smiled at him, promising I'll pay for the next time.
"Oh so there's a next time huh?" He smirked at me, we moved off to the side waiting for our drinks.
"Well I mean yeah we have to be even." I shrugged my shoulders. Before he was able to respond, someone called out our names signaling our drinks were ready. Louis and I grabbed our drinks and straws, throwing away trash. We sat at a table for a little bit.
"Hey what'd you get?" I asked him.
He had a warm a drink in his hand, though I wasn't sure what it was.
"Hot chocolate" He replied. I snickered. He raised his eyebrows at me, "Why are you laughing at me, Azami?" he questioned, leaning onto the table.
I put my hands up in defense, "Nothing nothing, you're just...basic" I continued to laugh while Louis looked at me offended.
"Oh really, BASIC huh?" Raising his voice in a joking manner though I still got tense. "Would you like to tell me what you got then?"
I sat my drink down, putting my hands on the table and recited my order. "Grande vanilla bean frappe, with 1 pump of toffee nut syrup, 1 scoop of dragon fruit and whip cream" It was my turn to smirk at him.
For all the filipinos out there, that is an actual drink at starbucks that i usually get and it tastes just like ube !!! it's sooo good
"Now see...you're just complicated." Louis said, making both of us break into a fit of laughter.
After we calmed down, Louis was looking outside the café, while I was drinking my drink, totally not staring at him. I wanted to ask about Aubrey, confused why she wasn't here and why the sudden flirtatious mood. Was it flirtatious? I couldn't tell, he was a natural at it. Midthought Louis perked up, grabbing my hand across the table, and both of us grabbing our drinks and making our way out of the store.
He looked at me as I struggled to match his pace, "I saw this place on our way to the gate and I think you'd like it." I felt myself blush. Louis seeing a place and thinking I'd like it? That's so sweet. He pulled me to the entrance of a little bookshop. I looked up at it in awe. How did I not see this when Mr. and Mrs. Williams and I walked around the airport?
Louis grabbed my hand and guided me inside, it was a small one, but it was a comforting one nonetheless. Louis and I parted ways to look at books, I saw him make his way to the comics, I rolled my eyes playfully. I went over to the young adult section. I was a sucker for romance. Always had my nose in a book that had some sort of love growing up. When I was growing up and during my tween years, it was mainly Harry Potter and Dork Diaries I read. Now at the age of 16, it was young adult. I picked up some books, reading the back covers and writing some titles down in my lists of books I considered getting. Louis came to my side when I was reading the back cover and flipping through the pages of a particular book that sounded really good, but once I saw the price, I made a face, put it back and continued walking. I noticed Louis wasn't next to me when I reached the next section, I heard a click of a camera in the previous isle I was in and then a few footsteps to see Louis coming over to me. I looked at him confused. He shrugged his shoulders.
"Do you want to start heading back?" He looked at his phone. "We have 30 minutes till we have to board the plane." I nodded at him as he grabbed my hand, making our way out of the store. I noticed he's been grabbing my hand a lot lately, which is weird considering he has a girlfriend and I respect that. Not that I like Louis anyways, he's just...nice to look at.
I hardly catch feelings for anybody anymore, I just people attractive and I can flirt with them if they flirt with me first, but i can't handle commitment, not after Dylan. I thought to myself.
Louis and I made it back to the gate as we saw the group getting all the luggage's together. They looked at us as we were kind of jogging on the way here. They continued to look at us then their eyes made their way to our interlocked hands. Louis and I looked at our hands then to each other and we quickly let go. I made my way over to Issie and Millie who were next to my luggage as Louis stayed standing in the same place.
Issie grinned at me. "Oh we definitely saw that Ms. Azami Navarro"
"Heck yeah we did" Millie nudged me with her shoulders, smirking.
"Oh stop it, you guys" I rolled my eyes.
I gathered my stuff, getting ready to board when Mr. and Mrs. Williams pulled me to the side. I looked up at them, their eyes tearing up.
"Oh come on you guys," pulling them into a hug, "please don't cry." That only caused them to start crying. Even Mr. Williams.
"Please just stay safe, Ami" Mrs. Williams kissed my forehead. "We've only known you for two months, but we've grown to like you very much."
"Ami, make sure to text us when you land and don't go out at night and make sure to always text and call us whenever, no matter the time difference, and don't forget we already planned to visit you during Christmas time okay?" Mr. Williams spat out. Now I started to cry. I pulled them in for another hug. After staying in that position, we heard a fight attendant call out first class for my flight, which I was flying first class in apparently. I let go of them and grabbed my suitcase. I said my goodbyes and went over to get my ticket checked, before I went into the little hallway that leads onto the plane I turned around to see Mrs. Williams and Mr. Williams hugging as they waved at me. I waved back and finally turned around to board the plane.
I managed to find my seat in the hectic mess of first class, turns out Issie was sitting next to me so it's gonna be a fun flight. As I sat down as my window seat, spreading my blanket onto my legs and turning to the window to adjust it, I turned back around to find Issie gone and Louis in her place, I looked around as Louis unpacked his stuff.
"Excuse me, but where's Issie? I thought this was her seat?" I looked at him confused.
He looked back up at me with a grin. "Millie made me switch seats with her because apparently I snore."
I laughed at him. "Wow that's great, too bad I didn't buy any ear plugs."
"Ha ha ha" louis said sarcastically as he reclined his seat. "Laugh all you want Navarro, you'll be the one suffering since you'll be sleeping next to me" That sounded wrong, way wrong. I looked forward in my seat, frozen till everyone came on board and we were ready to take off. As we were going down the runway, the speed picking up and as my heart started to race, I panicked. I was a nervous flyer. I began to fumble with my bracelet, moving around in my seat a lot and just becoming a mess until Louis took my hand in his and looked at me.
"It's okay, you'll be fine" Louis said, tightening his grip.
I took a deep breath as we went up.
Once a flight attendant said we were good and said we'll be on the flight for almost half a day. My heart started to calm down. I took out my iPad and went onto Netflix. I felt a tap on my shoulder, I took out one of my earbuds.
"May I help you?" I asked Louis as he was sitting up in his seat looking at my iPad.
"Yeah can I watch with you?" I groaned playfully, giving him one of airpods.
"What do you want to watch then?" I asked scrolling through my account.
"It doesn't matter with me," Louis replied.
My eyes looked at Julie and The Phantoms, which I've only seen show like 7 times, it's ridiculously amazing. I turned to a bewildered Louis.
"Want to re watch Julie and The Phantoms with me?" I asked.
He shrugged his shoulders, "I've never seen it." I paused.
"You're...you're kidding right?" When he shook his head, I put my hands on his shoulder making him face me. Our heads so close, I can feel his hot breath.
"Mr. Louis Partridge we are going to start AND finish Julie and The Phantoms on this very flight." I then tapped on the show as the band started to play one of my favorite songs.
Watching this show with Louis was a whole rollercoaster, I would grab his hand whenever something was about to happen and I wanted him to pay attention. I would dance in my seat, lip syncing the songs as Louis would laugh as he watched the show and me. Then we both cried on each other's shoulders when Unsaid Emily started playing and when we finished the last episode. I cried the most though, Louis cried a reasonable amount. We talked about theories for the next season and recapping our favorite parts. When we finished I accidentally knocked out on his shoulder after telling him he could watch whatever he wants on Netflix.
I woke up a while later, making Louis turn off the iPad and looking at me. I started to feel embarrassed when I felt some dry saliva on the corner of my mouth.
"Oh gosh I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to knock out on you like that." I said backing up onto my seat.
He was still looking at me, "No worries, you're fine."
I went onto my phone and decided to listen to some music. I turned to Louis who was yet still looking at me and gave him one of my earbuds. He reluctantly put it into his ear. I started to play one of my favorite songs.
Blame by Calpurnia.
"My girl's on a train, she's going far away, she's never come back, she gives me heart attacks...."
As the song continued to play, I felt Louis bopping his head next to me. I looked at him. He looked so peaceful, he had his eyes close and lips slightly apart. I was so fascinated by him, I didn't even realize the song had ended. Louis opened his eyes and looked at me.
"That was a really good song, what's it called?" Crap, he caught me looking at him.
I turned to my phone. "Oh it was Blame by Calpurnia. Finn Wolfhard's in that band...you know the from Stranger Things?" Louis nodded. "Well uh do you want to listen to their other songs? They're really good." Louis nodded once more and laid back in his seat. Cells by Calpurnia starting to play. I laid back in my seat closing my eyes and enjoying the moment. Enjoying the moment so much, I didn't even realize Louis had interlocked his hand in mine.
