Unfortunately for her, ever since she realised her feelings for Ron Weasley, she could never speak to him, not even in class. She wished she had the attitude of her best friend, who spoke to boys she liked without fear. So when she entered second year, she started leaving notes in his books with little letters. He never knew who they came from.

And the day he learned of her existence was a very strange situation: when Ron asked her to help him with his homework, and perhaps that was the happiest day of her life. Without the redhead knowing that the letters he had been receiving for three years were from her.
