chapter five || 🍓🤍🌸

Augustine Madden woke up with the worst nausea she had ever experienced. When she had snuck back into her bedroom, she wasn't sure if she was dreaming, so she reached into her suitcase and pulled out a bottle of vodka and... downed the whole thing.

And that decision was most definitely biting her in the ass right now.

Anytime she moved she would gag and curl into a ball. So when Jayden came into her bedroom with a mask and fake knife, she screamed and then ran straight into the bathroom.

"Oh, come on. It was a joke." He whined, holding out a spare mask and prop.

August had locked herself in the bathroom and was sitting on the floor by the bathroom, "Die," She stood up and walked to the door, after unlocking it, she grabbed the spare mask and knife and said, "Let's get this over with."

    "Fuck yeah!" He shouted.

They walked down the stairs and left the house. They sped walked over to the Fishers and walked in without knocking, because up to the age of nine they still knocked and Susanna had to sit them down and tell them if they knocked again she would "Disown" them.

They walked into the kitchen seeing Jeremiah pouring fruits and vegetables into a blender. "Set that off and I will end you." He jumped and placed both his hands on the counter to stop himself from falling.

    "Where is he?" Jayden asked.

"Up... stairs?" Jeremiah huffed out a breath, realising they weren't there for him, but for his brother.

August was the first to turn and walk up the stairs. Jayden followed close behind, giggling to himself. When they were outside the room they looked at eachother, gave each other a fist bump and put their masks on.

Jayden opened the door and August followed him in and closed the door behind her. Jayden walked over to the side of the bed and raised his hand with the knife raised  as if he was going to attack him. August walked over and did the same thing, but she shook Conrad to wake him up. He groaned, opening his eyes and then immediately screamed at the sight of the two. He jumped out of the bed and grabbed a random "weapon" from his nightstand.

The twins screamed at him making him scream in return, "Take anything! Please just leave me alone!" He shouted at them.

August was the first to break, she laughed and took off her mask. She could see Jayden do the same and Conrad visibley calm down. She sat down on his bed to steady herself. "That was- That was just! Wow!" She tried to speak through laughter.

"Ha ha ha. No, fuck off!" He told them, pushing Jayden out the door and moving August from his bed and out the door.

"You're such a pussy!" August told him with a grin, He faked a smile, "Yeah, and last time I checked you made out with me, a pussy."

She gasped and turned around making sure Jayden didn't hear, but he was too busy walking down the stairs still laughing.

"Okay, first of all, you kissed me! I did not kiss you and I definitely did not 'make out' with you. What do you take me for? Two, you're still a pussy."

He continued to push her out of his room, ignoring her as she spoke. He sent her one last smile before slamming the door.

She straightened up before walking down the stairs and watching as Jayden was telling Jeremiah what had happened.

August walked up to the couch and draped a blanket over herself as she lay down on it.

"What's up with her?" Jeremiah asked, looking at the girl all weirdly.

Jayden glanced over at his twin sister, "Hangover."

"But she didn't even drink that much..."

August sat up on her elbows, "You'd be surprised," She mumbled and then lay straight back down. Ignoring when someone moved her legs from the couch and practically dragged the blanket off her. "What is your problem?"

"You were in my way." Conrad said, closing his eyes.

She grabbed the blanket off him again, "I was here first, bitch."

"Well good thing it's my fucking house!" He finally gave up trying to get the blanket and held onto a pillow for dear life.

The Conklin family, except Belly, came down the stairs. Laurie slapped both of their heads making them groan and curl into a ball, "Language, the both of you!"

August could've sworn that that slap made her head twenty times worse. She closed her eyes for a second, scrunching up her face as she felt the pounding in her head got worse.

Opening her eyes, she saw Steven pissing off Jeremiah and Laurie opening her laptop to write.

"Okay, get out," Jeremiah told Steven, pointing to the door.

Steven laughed and asked, "What, why?" While backing up away from him.

Laurie didn't look up from her laptop, "She needs to see you in the flesh in order to capture your essence while you're still young and full of hope!" Jeremiah and Steven turned to look at her laughing, "Her words, not mine..."

Jeremiah went back to cooking whatever was making August feel like she was going to get sick, "Well, Conrad does not have hope, actually. He's hopeless, but my hangover smoothie- it cures all."

"Can you please just hurry up?" He asked from the chair, moving his feet making them hit August's stomach.

She sucked in a breath, "Why would you move?!"

He ignored her, "Just go back to bed, alright." Jeremiah told him, "All right, seriously Steven, get out!" He raised the spatula, "This is a delicate science, and your heavy breathing is going to break the yolk."

"She hasn't painted you since you were little," Laur said, changing the subject.

August cringed remembering the painting the woman had painted of her a few summers ago. "I think it would be nice to have those portraits for when you're older."

"Old. No. I'm sure there'll be, like, like, holograms or something I can watch of myself, you know?" Steven stated as if he was one hundred percent sure. Jereamih ignored him and turned on the blender.

Both kids on the chair sat up in a hurry, August  could feel the bile rise in her throat and Conrad looked like he was going to pass out. August sat up from the chair and walked into the kitchen, she had the blanket draped around her shoulders.

"Just sit for your portraits. I don't see Conrad complaining." The older woman told them, smiling when she saw August.

Jeremiah walked into the living room saying, "He'll complain when he's conscious."

August walked around the island and sniffed the green smoothie Jeremiah just made, "That shit is rank."

"Alright, man, hurry your ass up. I can't be late for my first day at the club," Steven complained.

Jeremiah walked back in, "We won't. We're good."

"Come on, man!" Steven slapped Jeremiah's ass as he walked by, "Those country club boomers are gonna tip me so hard, they won't know what hit 'em!"

"Steven, I swear." Laurie dragged out when Steven held his crotch and went on his tippy toes, impersonating Micheal Jackson.

"Come on, Laurel, My boy's gotta get that bread." He laughed as he handed August the smoothie.

"I am not drinking that death crap." She told him as Belly walked in.

"Belly, where have you been? Is that a bruise?" Her mom asked her as she sat down beside her in a mood.

"Um, I-I bumped into someone..." She lied.

"You bumped into someone?" Laurel pressed, inspecting the bruise covering Belly's cheek bone.

"Doesn't look that bad," Conrad said from the sitting room. August rolled her eyes at the boy's words, it was his fault after all.

"Um, cereal?" Jeremiah asked her, walking away from the stove and over to the island.

"Yeah, hit me up." She smiled at him.

August, very reluctantly brought the cup up to her lips and drank a small bit, "Not bad, Jer. Will never drink it again though!" She then walked over to the table and chairs and leaned her head down.

As he was pouring cereal into a bowl for Belly he laughed, "Thank you?"

A voice came from out of the room, making August rub her forehead, "Oh, My God!" Susanna walked into the kitchen. "Belly is going to be a debutante!"

Belly laughed, "It's really not that big of a deal."

"I'm sorry. Like, Belly? Like, my sister, Like, that thing over there?" Steven asked, pointing at his sister.

Belly's face dropped, "Shut up, certin."

"Okay, this is going to be so much fun. Just you wait. There is, uh... there's the tea, the auction, the ball, of course, the rehearsal. I've got to write this down," She stressed. She gasped, "We need to go shopping!"

August groaned when Diana walked in, "You also need to go, August."

"I have enough!" She told her mother, God, she really didn't have the head for shopping today.

"That sounds... expensive," Laurie told Susanna.

Susanna waved her off, "Oh, don't sorry, Laur. It's on me. It was my idea after all, and we still need to style you for your book party, so..."

"Belly, are you sure you want to do this? It doesn't seem very you." Her mom told her, turning to look at where she was sitting.

    "It's not." Conrad stated.

Both Susanna and August spoke up, "Stop sucking the fun out of it." August spoke, mostly to herself. While Susanna asked , "Conrad, could you please be a little more supportive? Now, which of you are going to take them to the ball?"

"Not me. I went last year."  Conrad announced, downing his drink.

"Yeah, and I swore off balls." Jeremiah said. Steven laughed, "The dances, dude."

Jayden finally stopped stuffing his face for the whole ten conversations they had, "I just really don't wanna go,"

"Wow, guys. Stop fighting over me!" Belly straightened her back and joked.

"I'll take you, Bellz" August winked at the girl.

"I'm not going with any of you," Belly said, making August fake sadness, "I'm going to find my own date."

"Wikipedia says debutante balls require instruction in morals and social etiquette." Laurie spoke, looking at Susanna and Diana as if they were crazy.

    "I'm going for a swim."

"Try not to drown while you're at it." August smiled at him evilly.

"She could use some etiquette," Steven laughed.

"No offence, Beck, but I don't feel like a country club is the right place to teach Belly about morals."

Susanna reassured her, "Times have changed, Laur. There's a girl debbing this season and bringing her girlfriend and they were fine with it."

    "How very progressive of them."

"I'm that girl," August joked, getting a series of laughs and a glare from her mother.

"I warned you, August. Debutante balls are not a place for your joking," Diana shot at her daughter, who put her hands up.

    "But it was funny."

    "It was not."

Jeremiah walked over to Belly and handed her a plate, "Here you go, belly button!"

"Well, hurry up. We have shopping to do."

August slumped in her chair, "Sue, in the nicest way possible, I would rather die than go shopping today."

Susanna walked over to the girl and kissed her head, "I'll pick some things for you"

"Have I ever told you I love you?" She asked, leaning into the women.

Susanna thought for a second, "Yes, everyday"
