"Ah... My neck... My back, lick my pu--"
"DUDE SHUT UP!" Daichi interrupted Oikawa and focused on writing the goddamn report.
"Jeez, no need to be so harsh.. I'm just in a good mood" Oikawa faked a frown and flopped onto the sofa.
"Okay, but real question here, where the hell do mermaids live? I mean, if there was a city we would know, right?" Bokuto asked as he walked into the room, he was holding three popsicles in his hand and one in his mouth.
"Damnit Bokuto, don't eat all the popsicles" Oikawa said and stole one from him.
"I'm trying to focus here.. And I think they live further away from here" Daichi sighed loudly and put down his pen. "Give me one popsicle"
"Calm down Daichi, it's not that urgent. Go swim a bit, relax, have fun. No need to work all the time" Bokuto said handed him a popsicle. Daichi sighed again before nodding slowly, agreeing with what Bokuto said.
"I'll do just that.. I'm gonna swim, so you guys can either join or do something else" Daichi said and stood up.
It was another amazing day. The only difference was that some clouds had formed, it was going to rain in a couple of days. The sand was too hot, so Daichi had to run towards the water.
As he looked forward he saw nothing but endless miles of water, who knows what else could be lurking down there.
Daichi walked in slowly, he let his body get adjusted to the water. The temperature of water was just right and soon Daichi was peacefully swimming around. It felt great.
Swimming was a great idea, Daichi could relax and forget all the troubles, especially those two at the house. He let himself float on his back and look at the clouds slowly drifting through the sky.
After a while Daichi decided to rest on the rocks near by, maybe even meditate. He sat down and crossed his legs, closed his eyes and...
"Relaxing, ay?" A voice spoke, shaking Daichi out of his thoughts.
"Damnit, what...?" he looked to his right and saw a familiar face. It was a merman that helped him with his keys.
"I saw you swimming, wanted to join but you left. Oh, I'm Suga by the way" Suga smiled, hia tail moved happily as well.
"Hey Suga... Wow, is this real life? Am I really talking to a merman?" Daichi started questioning himself again.
"Yeah, it is. Sorry for interrupting you like this.. I'm just lonely.. To tell you the truth, I'm not allowed to leave my place without permission like this, but humans are so interesting, I couldn't help it" Suga spoke.
"Why not? Are there merman rules or something?" Daichi laughed a bit, but Suga's face showed only seriousness.
"There are actually. One of the rules actually forbids us from talking to humans. Well, there aren't that many of us left anyway, the tribesmen that lived here killed a lot of us" Suga sighed and rested half of his body on a stone. His eyes fell on Daichi's legs.. "May I... Touch your legs?"
"What? Uh.. Sure" Daichi agreed for some reason. Suga slowly examined how a human leg looks like, he was a bit jealous.
"I wish I could walk! Or run! Yet, I'm stuck with a fish tail..." he frowned before letting out a small laughter. "My dad would kill me if he knew that I am spending time with a human"
"Oh, really?" Daichi actually felt pretty relaxed talking to Suga like this.
"Yeah. How about your dad?" Suga asked, Daichi's smile fell as he sighed.
"Unfortunately, he is not here anymore" Daichi looked up to the sky. "It's all thanks to him that I decided to become a marine biologist.."
"What happened to him? I'll hear you out if you want to talk" Suga said.
"I was still a little boy. I was 9 at the time. My father was a fisher, but he always came back home with gifts and fish. It was summer and my dad decided on going to the sea, he wanted to catch something bigger and more impressive, as always I was excited to see what he was going to bring back, but.. Things didn't go as planned. A storm broke out. It was sunny all day, but in the evening dark clouds formed and soon a thunderstorm started. From what my dad's colleague told me, their boat was being swung all around, my dad didn't manage to hold on properly and disappeared somewhere in the ocean... " Daichi told the story and sighed, it was his first time telling anybody this.
"I'm so sorry.. Tell me where it all happened, maybe I'll be able to bring you his necklace or anything like that" Suga said, he honestly felt sad.
"No, it's fine. I'm okay now, I just wish I could have told him a proper goodbye" Daichi smiled to himself.
"Ah, I see... Well, I have to go before they notice that I'm missing, but see you later!" Suga dove back into the water and swam away, leaving Daichi sitting on the rock by himself...
