( bonus scene: a patriotic surprise for the patriotic man)

Steve celebrates his 100th Birthday and someone went beyond expectations.

»»————- ★ ————-««

"Wow."

A bright flash momentarily blinded her.

Natasha did her best to shot Tony a glare, who was downright laughing his ass off to the point where he could barely breathe. She felt her eye twitch. "Are you done?" she snapped.

He was still clutching his phone in one hand while the other struggled to keep him upright. "Good lord, Romanoff." He was in between snoring and snickering at the same time. "You're really living the title of being Cap's gal."

She narrowed her eyes.

But deep down, no matter how much she hated to admit it, she knew Tony was right. Well, she did raise the bar a lot higher than they all expected. Her, mostly, because she had no idea why she ended up wearing the goddamn Betsy Ross costume. The red, white and blue stars and stripes costume. It certainly looked alike to Steve's uniform, only that what she was wearing was a dress.

"You're going to give Steve the time of his life, Nat." Sam joined in, laughing his ass off as well and falling in sync with Tony. They looked like a pair of idiots clinging to one another while catching their breaths.

Natasha couldn't help but sigh in embarrassment.

You see, she wouldn't dare do this if this was any other ordinary day.

But today was Captain America's birthday. Steve Rogers's birthday. Her boyfriend's birthday.

So, this was a pretty big deal.

And thanks to Sam's suggestion of throwing a surprise party for Steve, all had warmed up to the idea. Tony even promised to drop by even though he took a break from 'Avenging' and all that stuff. But Tony Stark, being the asshole that he is, suggested they throw a patriotic theme for a change to further emphasize his title of being the 'old man'.

Wanda's gift was a printed tee that had a 'Brooklyn Dodgers' on the front. Over the months, she got to learn that Steve was a Dodgers fan considering Brooklyn was his hometown after all, so it made sense. Sam partnered it off with a baseball cap for the Cap.

Rhodey and Vision's gift was a black sketchbook that was wrapped in a stars and stripes wrapping paper with a set of charcoal pencils. They knew Steve loved to draw.

And Tony, who was still being as the lazy-ass he is, simply ordered a USA-themed cake with a figurine of Captain America standing at the topmost layer.

Seeing all of her friend's gifts, she was starting to feel more and more ridiculous wearing this outfit with each passing second.

Wanda rolled her eyes at the two. "Don't listen to them, Nat. You look great! Steve would love this!" She squealed, giving her an encouraging smile.

"Yes, Steve would most definitely love this." Sam agreed, grinning so widely that it looked like his cheeks hurt.

"It would harden his balls that's for sure," Tony claimed, giving Natasha a smirk. "I bet I know what your present is to top all of this off."

Natasha flustered up. Like really flustered. "Shut up, Stark. Shut up." She gritted her teeth, trying to shrug the image away from her mind. The last thing she wanted was to have these sexual thoughts about her boyfriend while in a room with these idiots.

"Lay off, Tony." Rhodey chimed in. "And you better prepare yourselves because Steve's on his way up."

Vision raised his hand. "I'll handle the lighting."

As they started to get into their hiding spots, she momentarily patted her pockets and froze when she felt nothing. Oh no. The present. Her present for Steve. Where was it?

Then she remembered she must've left it back in Wanda's room when she headed there to change (because she couldn't risk Steve seeing her when they were just on the same floors).

"What's wrong?" Wanda asked, noticing the mortified expression on her face.

"My present for Steve. I must've left it back in your room," she said.

Wanda's eyes widened. "Then go get it! Hurry!"

A flash of excitement and panic coursed through her body. In a matter of seconds, she was running towards the elevators and hoped she'd find it and get back here just in time for the surprise.

And she did.

As soon as she got inside the room, she found it by the bedside table and shoved it inside her pocket. Just when she was about to go down, heading for the elevator once more, and saw that one of the doors were open and about to close.

"Hold the elevator!" she yelled, holding her goddamn dress to avoid kissing the floor. Thankfully, whoever was inside the elevator heard her and kept it wide open just for her to reach it in time.

Though as soon as she saw the person inside, she suddenly wanted the floor to eat her up.

Steve Rogers stood in the elevator, still clad in his uniform. He froze just as he saw her emerge from the hall; staring at her with wide eyes and jaw almost dropping. His eyes, locked onto her outfit before glancing at his own uniform right after.

As soon as he met her gaze again, he suddenly came to his senses and broke into a round of chuckles. Amusement filled his face as a faint blush crept onto his cheeks and down his neck. His lips were stretched into a wide smile.

Natasha wanted to die right there. She had never felt more embarrassed in her entire life. Still, she swallowed the last of her dignity and mustered up the courage to step inside and tried to ignore his stare on her.

Steve didn't say anything, so she did the same. He was really enjoying this, wasn't he?

That little shit.

Finally, the elevator came to a stop on their floor with the doors opening. The awkward silence was broken by Steve when he looked at her again, and she finally had the strength to look up and meet those sweet-blue eyes of his.

He smiled shyly.

Natasha blushed, looking down at the floor again.

Her view got blocked by a pair of boots stepping in front of her. She felt a finger curled under her chin and gently tipped her head upwards.

Steve was looking at her with warm eyes. "You look beautiful, Nat."

If possible, she only turned redder. She was completely caught off guard that she couldn't think of a proper comeback. He took her reaction as a win because a smirk rose to his lips. He suddenly leaned in and captured her lips in a sweet kiss.

He leaned in her ear to whisper, voice rasped and teasing, "You have no idea what this outfit does to me."

It was her turn to smirk, leaning back and finally being able to find her voice. "Guess I'll find out later then."

Steve laughed, giving her a wink. "Maybe." He stepped out of the elevator, eyeing her one last time. "Best birthday present."

Natasha, despite feeling the heat rising on her face, clutched the tightly-shut compass inside her pocket — it was the one he thought he had lost when he went in the ice. She tried so hard to find it and her heart quickly melted as soon as she saw what was inside.

And the reason why the compass meant a lot to him.

She smiled back at the man she loves. "You haven't seen the best of it yet, soldier."

He gave her a wave and walked away.

As soon as the elevator doors closed, she couldn't help the wide grin breaking across her face. She almost, almost, even let out a squeal as the thought of Steve loving her outfit reminded her again.

Oh, boy.

Guess wearing the Betsy Ross costume wasn't such a bad idea after all.

So, this was inspired by a scene in the Nanny Diaries.

And Happy 100th Birthday to our dear Captain!

BTW. Have you guys seen the new concept arts for Avengers 4? STEVE AND NATASHA LOOKED SO BEAUTIFUL I CAN'T EVEN... I'M CRYING THEY'RE SO PERFECT.

Oh, and regarding the revised version of "Against All Odds" (the sequel to Agent Romanoff) do you guys want me to post five chapters per week? Or post it all in one go? Because I'm really having a hard time writing the chapters continuously when school is keeping me busy :( I just don't want you guys to feel that I abandoned my fics or took a break or something.

Soooo which would you prefer? 5 chapters a week or publish it all in one go?

And HERE IS ANOTHER ANNOUNCEMENT. Many asked me if there would be a third book in the Agent Romanoff series... the answer is yes. I actually revised "Against All Odds" to the point where its ending is actually a cliffhanger. (Yup, you're in for a big surprise)

So, yeah, there will be a sequel. I hope you guys are ok with that idea xD
