Naruto had woken up with a gasp when he saw the rays of the sun trying to create a hole through his eyes.
'What just happened?'
He tried to stand up while massaging his aching back as he looked around.
"There doesn't seem to be anything special..." He mumbled, still slightly hurt from the fall.
'Well then, maybe I should look around more.' He started walking further away from Konoha in search of Miyu and Kakashi.
'Why did it feel like I fell through a hole when nothing even happened...?' He wondered, alternately glancing back at the spot where he 'fainted'.
He soon reached a small town and kept walking to see any signs that he could consider abnormal.
'Why does everything look so old?' He asked himself as he mindlessly wandered around the small town.
The shops weren't as big as he remembered, and most of them were thatched, even though he clearly remembers them being bricked.
'What is happening?' He thought as he looked at the menu sign of a shop.
He kept walking without looking up and only stopped when he heard a voice that was too similar to one he knew.. 'Granny Tsuanade?'
He started to kind-of stalk her, but 'of course', he wasn't stalking her.
He could notice a few things.. the dates and days weren't the same. And the fact that she was roaming around as she wishes despite being a hokage. He thought he must have been in a dream, maybe he hurt his head from the hole.
'But, didn't the report mention that Banri knew how to hide in time or something...? Is this his doing? Am I somehow back in time? Or is this sort of like an alternate universe?! . . . You know what, that would be kind of cool. I want to know how different things would be if it were- But no, it said time, not dimension. Those are different, I think..?'
He was startled out of his thoughts by a hand grabbing his shoulder from behind, "Who are you?" The voice asked.
He turned around only to see the woman he had been following, he sighed as he stared at her, completely serious. "Grandma Tsunade-" He wasn't able to continue his words when her hand came down on his head, "Who are you calling Grandma?!"
"Ouch!" He rubbed the spot, "Can we talk somewhere private? It's important."
Tsunade stared at him for a little while before she turned around and then started walking. Naruto followed her along with Shizune and Ton Ton. Right before turning at an intersection, she looked behind her shoulder and asked him, "Do you have money?"
Naruto was a little confused, 'Maybe she wants me to buy her a drink for the favour?" He answered, "A little."
"Good, You are paying for my hotel." She answered as she stopped in front of a hotel.
"Wait- that's too expensive!" He complained but he didn't have any choice either.
"So, you're trying to tell me that you are from the future?" She asked, not believing him for a second. Even the pig looked at him like he was crazy.
But Naruto knew he was not. He couldn't be.
"Yes, I believe so. I followed a man named Banri-" Naruto began his story.
"Wait, Banri?" She interrupted him, catching on.
"Yes, have you heard of him Grandma Tsunade?"
"First of all, while you're here... I don't know what kind of relationship we might have in the future. But you don't call me Grandma in here, got that?! And second thing, Yes, I do know Banri. He's been quite famous in... what would seem to you.. as this timeline as well." She replied.
"Ah, if I don't call you Grandma, then I guess I should call you Lady Hokage like Shizune does, right?" He spoke, before slapping a hand over his mouth.
"Sis, if I ever get to time travel like in the movie Time Hopper. Then, what should I do?" He had asked Miyuki once after she finished telling him a story from a book she had just read.
'Hmmm...' she thought, "That likely wouldn't happen, Naruto. It's a movie."
"But what if it does?! Surely, a future Hokage should know every way to defend the nation!" He tried to convince her.
"I'm doubtful the Hokage would ever need to-" She spoke but was interrupted, "But what if?! Sis!" He whined
"Alright, alright..." She stared at him, "First thing and what I would think, the most important would be... 'Never tell someone anything about the future.'"
"Why?"
"If you tell someone about the future. Then, there's a chance that the future wouldn't come to pass. It's called time paradox, you will understand it as you grow older." She answered.
"So, is this time paradox bad thing?"
"I would assume so. Naruto, I won't claim to be an expert on this matter. But time paradox can be quite harmful. For example, if you go back in time and accidentally end up stopping your parents from meeting, that would mean you would disappear."
"But if I disappeared, then who stopped them from meeting?"
She shrugged, " I don't know. It's a complex theory."
"But that means it can change the future right?" He asked, after some hesitance.
"Yes."
"Then, would you ever change the events of the Kyubi attack if you could?" He asked, with slight stuttering. He was too scared to even check her reaction.
"I wouldn't change that day for even the most precious jewel. Some things would still happen, no matter how hard you try to change it." Her voice went soft, and Naruto felt bad, knowing she wasn't particularly fond of reminiscing the day her parents died.
"Isn't time for you to study?" She smiled at him, but he could see the hurt pooling in her eyes, how she looked deep in thought, and how her whole life seems to be flashing through her eyes.
He didn't continue the subject, not wanting to hurt her.
"I'll go then. Take care." He stood up and returned home.
Tsunade stared at him, "Hokage?"
Shizune looked at him as though he told her the future, wait, he did tell her the future... 'oh...'
"I mean, Ho...Ho...Hik...Hak?" He couldn't even attempt to defend himself anymore. 'What word starts with 'Ho' anyways?!'
"Don't embarrass yourself, kid." Tsunade told him.
"Oh, I, yeah... you are the fifth."
"Fifth..." She hummed in thought before turning to Shizune, "Has there been anyone appointed to be the fourth yet?"
"No. Not to my knowledge." Shizune answered.
So, there's no fourth yet? How far did I go back to?
"One thing, kid. Do not say anything about the future to anyone, not even to us." She warned.
"Yes, Gra- I mean, Lady Tsunade." He quickly corrected himself.
It was in the evening when anything else of importance happened. When they had gone out to eat dinner, with Shizune offering to pay this time... surprising Tsunade.
"So, how's the future?" Shizune asked.
"Umm- I thought I wasn't supposed to talk about it?" Naruto replied, confused.
"Yes... I didn't mean important details. I meant to ask how is it in general." The conversation was kind of awkward but, not more than when they first met in the morning and for that, he was thankful.
"It's quite good. As I mentioned before, Lady Tsunade is the hokage and she's not bad."
The fact that he used 'not bad' instead of something more positive amused the other two people.
"So, what business do you have with Banri?" Tsunade asked him, already on her 5th bottle of sake.
"I was informed that my sister... who's not my biological sister. But still my sister though! She told me that she would be waiting for me but she wasn't. So I asked you - from the future - and she told me that they had gone on a mission regarding Banri. And you specifically told me not to go, but then you asked me to give the mission file to Shizune, who wasn't in the office at the time, so I pretended to go, but 'stole' the file and now I'm here." He explained.
But something rubbed Shizune and Tsunade the wrong way, both of them knew that Tsunade wasn't dumb, so why would she send this kid to give the files to her if the future Tsunade didn't want him to follow his sister here.
Tsunade suddenly slammed the bottle down on the battle. 'Why do I keep getting myself involved with blonde troubles?!' She cursed her future self out as realization washed over her.
"Anyways, Granny Tsunade-" Naruto was yet again ready to spout more nonsense.
"Who are you calling a granny?!" Tsunade lunged at him while he dodged and they engaged in a mini game of cat and mouse... but with little actual engagement.
When Shizune turned to look at them both, she was greeted with Naruto - his face on the table. Had he drank?
And then came the moment when she made eye-contact with her master. She turned to Shizune after ordering another bottle with a huff of annoyance, "Write a letter to the old hokage!"
