3. Okay, That's Weird
Over the past few months, Lia got a little bigger, and she wasn't that much of a handful from what Dragon would've thought. She's quiet, not crying hysterically, and she's patient even though the meetings he has to attend are something she doesn't like. Yet, Sabo or Koala got it covered for him. For some reason, Lia seems to be acting a little differently, and it's getting Dragon's attention on her following motives whenever she moves around the headquarters.
"Where has she gone to now?" Dragon scanned the room after setting down Lia for one minute, and she was gone from the next. He thought he was losing his marbles if anyone had taken her, or she may have crawled around small spaces for her size.
Then again...she's a spider and needs to be caught up and not loose from anyone's sight.
"Uh...she's climbing on the ceiling," Sabo said.
Dragon whispered, "Shit," when he saw the baby crawling from the wall onto the ceiling, worrying that she'll fall. Lia didn't seem frightened from the way she was climbing up when she only let out a few giggles.
"Of course, she's a spider that can crawl around anything, including anyone for her size," Dragon commented, scratching the back of his neck.
"I guess we better keep a close eye on her if she climbs around the building like this." Said, Sabo.
Dragon silently hums as he floats up in the air using his devil fruit power and goes over to Lia. She looked up at him except upside down, wearing a warm smile.
"Alright, I think that's enough climbing around for now, Lia. Come here." Holding out his arms, Lia obeyed as she latched herself onto him before they were back on the ground.
She looked up at him with her big innocent eyes blinking and nuzzled her face in the crook of his neck.
"You're going to be a big crawler around here," Dragon commented.
Dragon hoists up the girl, but then he receives a surprise from Lia. She sprung out her arms, and two more appeared that surprised Dragon.
"Wow. Four arms?" He mumbled.
He wasn't scared or freaked out for having four arms as she giggled. He just smiled at her and was all adorable as she was. If not mistakenly, he remembered his father freaking out for spotting a spider. Dragon couldn't stop holding back a grin to imagine the older man was scared of his spider granddaughter if he ever got a chance to meet her.
Lia leans over, hugging her dad's forehead, and she pulls away, looking back at Sabo.
"I must prepare for the mission I am doing alone." Said Dragon as he handed over Lia to the blond curly male. "Would you mind looking after Lia for me?" He asked.
"Certainly, Dragon-San." Said, Sabo.
___
Lia whined, seeing her dad packing some of his things that she was squirming around in Sabo's arms, wanting to go over to him.
"Lia, he'll be back soon, in a few days. I promise." Said Sabo, as he reassured his little sis that she didn't have to cry over for him to see him leave. He went above to set her down but had his back turned to look over some paperwork that needed to be filed, allowing Lia to reject it.
___
A mission on one of the islands that Dragon had to visit on his own to get it out of the way. The weather was right for him to settle alone on deck with the other army men. When they reached the island, Dragon hiding under his cloak, walked through the city of civilians to search for the destination he needed to go to and continue his mission. After a long walk from the town up to the highest peak of the mountains where he needed to go, he entered where the cave of men was hiding a secret key to where he needed to find what the World Government had hidden.
When he heard the sound of gurgling coming from behind him as he froze, there was no way in the world that Lia should be with him. He might've been hearing things.
"Bababa..." He heard.
"Lia?" He peered over his shoulder to see the baby spider crawling up to his shoulders as he furrowed his eyebrows. She didn't see anything wrong in coming to join on a dangerous adventure.
"I have to deal with you now at a time like this?" He sighed.
Having to pick her up from his shoulder, Lia looked at how disappointed he was to see her. She frowned, puffing out her cheeks, and reached her small chubby hands to pat his cheeks softly.
"No. Not smiling after you just misbehaved yourself for coming with me." He scowled.
"Mmmm..." Lia whined.
"Well, you stuck with me now, and I can't go back until I finish this mission alone." He audibly sighed, picking the girl off of his shoulders and glazing into his eyes.
She was excited to be a part of the mission with Dragon, but right now, he had more important things to focus on. Get the mission over without having to fail and keep Lia safe.
~
"Hm..." Dragon scanned the place as his eyes caught up to an open door slot. It wasn't quite significant for him, but there was no way he could walk through it.
"It's a tight fit, and I can't get under there," Dragon muttered.
He sighed. He was too big to fit through that small gap, so an idea popped into his head. The Dragon looked over at Lia; she was sitting on the ground, not doing anything as he approached her.
"Lia, do me one little favor. I want you to crawl under this gap and get those three items for me." He said, pointing to the gap center for her to see as she looked up at him. "Do you think you can do that?"
She understood the assignment she had to do was to get the key, knowing this job would be easy. Crawling under the open gap, she slowly ducks her head in the small space to reach the other side. As for Dragon, he found another way to meet with her around, and the door was shut as he came down quietly without making a sound. Soon as he found where Lia was, he saw her holding the key in her mouth.
"Lia, give me the key." He whispered, trying to get the key from her, but she refused.
A low sigh came from him that he was dealing with a child toying with the key he needed to get inside the door. So, he took it from her, but it still hung in her mouth as he rolled his eyes.
"Lia..." He called her name out again as she leaned her head back, feeling a sneeze coming in.
"ACHOO!" Lia sneezed.
Dragon quickly covered her mouth before one of those men noticed their presence as he hid, seeing one of the guards searching for intruders. He waited patiently for them as he heard their footsteps faintly leaving away. He looked down to see that he had only the key covered by her webs.
An idea popped into Dragon's thick skull as he set Lia on the ground while she sniffled. This was gross, but her snot was like a web for him, and he made a small hoop to catch the key.
"Got it." He mumbled.
He was grabbing the key and tossing the disgusting substance on the ground. He glanced back to find Lia still on the floor.
"Lia, give me the key." He said as he knelt taki, ng the other one, and removed the other from her mouth.
She looked up at him and felt her eyes build up with tears.
"Honey..." He sighed.
She began to cry as he scooped her up quickly but was soon recognized by the guards to hear the faint crying. Dragon was trying to console her, but nothing was working. They needed to get the mission done with the three keys to rescue the other enslaved people inside. A guard came around the corner and pointed their weapon at Dragon.
"HANDS UP!" He demanded.
Dragon didn't waste any time kicking the guy sending the gun across the other room. He bailed. As Dragon could remember, the rooms led through tunnels were the way to show where the prisoners were held hostage. Lia was hiccuping as she clung onto his cloak and buried her face into the fabric. Each corner they ran into almost led them to the front against another guard; however, while Dragon was running, he halted to find a dead end. Also, the keys he had in his pockets sprung out and fell.
"F...NO!" He cursed, trying to grab them before they hit rock bottom.
The keys fell, and he mentally cursed himself until the clicking sound from a rifle a guard held pointed behind his back.
"Hands in the air! You are under arrest for trespassing in our base!" He said, and another guard behind him was tagging along a couple more.
Dragon had to think fast, but he had no idea unless it was to fall straight down.
"Hm..." He didn't say anything, but he backed away as his fellow guards came closer. The more steps they took forward made Dragon lose his footing on purpose as he clutched onto Lia tightly.
Both fell as the guards were in shock. They looked around for him but didn't know he was hiding underneath them. Dragon formed his Dragon Claw Fist to slice the cliff, making it tumble as the guards screamed while falling.
The revolutionist flew up to land back on the surface. Dragon took a minute to sit down after that run around while sitting Lia down.
"Mmm?" Lia asked.
Dragon sighed.
"It's alright, Lia. We don't have to worry about those things now." He pats her head as she looks up at the tall male looking disappointed.
"Waba!" Lia said.
Dragon looked down at the girl holding the three objects she could get with her four arms. His eyes lit up to see them in her baby hands.
"Good job! You can get them without getting crushed, but that's good." Dragon picked her up as she smiled before handing them to him. "You deserve a reward when we get back." He pinches her chubby cheeks, making her let out a giggle.
