CHAPTER THIRTY EIGHT. SLUG CLUB PARTIES

DO NOT COMMENT FOR ME TO UPDATE!

If Evangeline was being honest, she did not want to attend Professor Slughorn's party. In fact, it was the last place that she wanted to be. It had been a month since she and Ron broke up. She was slowly beginning to move on, her heart beginning to heal. It was difficult to do when everywhere she turned, she saw Ron and Lavender snogging. The sight always made her sick.

And now she was attending a party that she was meant to be going with Ron to. And she didn't want to go. But here she was, wearing a blue dress and black heels, waiting for Vivian to arrive. Hermione had already left with Aldon, vowing to meet her friend there. Evangeline was happy for Hermione, hoping that things went well for her tonight.

Vivian finally arrived, wearing a red dress and matching heels. She smiled when she saw her younger sister. "You look pretty," she noted. "Thanks, you too," Evangeline replied. Vivian could sense her somewhat sour mood and sighed. "We don't have to go if you don't want to. I could always sneak into the kitchens and get some cookies," she said but Evangeline shook her head.

"We're already dressed. We might as well go," she said. Vivian nodded and the two made their way out of the Gryffindor house. The two walked through the castle to where the party was being held. When they arrived, they were greeted by Professor Slughorn who had asked Evangeline to take a picture with him. She agreed and the two walked to where a camera had been set up.

Evangeline smiled for the camera, a bright light flashing as the picture was taken. "Enjoy the party," Professor Slughorn said before walking away. She met up with Vivian again, the two walking around the room. Neville approached them, holding a tray of drinks in his hands. "Hey," he greeted. "Oh, hey Neville," Vivian said. "Drink?" He offered, holding out the tray to them. Vivian nodded and took a glass, handing it to Evangeline before grabbing one for herself.

Neville turned to Evangeline with a kind smile. "How're you doing?" He questioned and she shrugged. "I'm okay. Wasn't really in the mood for a party but hey, maybe I'll have fun," she replied. He nodded, "I hope so." He sent the girls another smile before walking off. Evangeline brought the glass to her lips, taking a sip of the liquid.

Her eyebrows raised at the taste. She didn't know what it was, but she liked it. The two made their way to a table full of food and began making themselves a plate. Evangeline just picked up random things and put them on the plate, not caring what it was or how it tasted. She looked around the party and spotted Hermione and Aldon chatting and laughing.

A small smile made its way onto Evangeline's face as she watched them. She was glad that her friend was having a good time and was happy. Evangeline picked up a mini sandwich from her plate and took a bite of it. She almost moaned with how good it tasted, turning back to the table and putting more of the mini sandwiches onto her plate. Vivian watched her in amusement, taking a bite of some weird brown food.

Cormac walked over to the two, his eyes roaming over them as if he was some sort of predator and they were his prey. "Hello, ladies," he said, sending them a smile. Evangeline almost gagged when she heard his voice, turning to look at him. "McLaggen," she said. His eyes turned to Vivian. "I don't believe we've met. I'm Cormac, and you are?" He said.

Vivian smiled, "Not interested." She grabbed Evangeline's wrist and pulled her away from the table and him. Evangeline was snickering to herself. "You sure showed him," she said and Vivian rolled her eyes. "Did you see the way that he was looking at us? What a disgusting slob," Vivian said.

The door slammed open and the two girls turned to look at it. Mr. Filch had ahold of Draco and was dragging him into the room. "Get your hands off me, you filthy Squib," Draco was saying, struggling in the man's grasp. "Professor Slughorn, sir. I just discovered this boy lurking in an upstairs corridor. He claims to have been invited to your party," Filch said.

"Okay, okay. I was gate-crashing. Happy?" Draco admitted. Professor Snape walked over to where the two were stood. "I'll, escort him out," the man said. Filch released Draco. "Certainly, Professor," Draco said. Snape and Draco left the party then. "All right, everyone carry on, carry on," Slughorn said and immediately, the party was back on track.

Evangeline stared after the two who had just left before turning back to Vivian. She picked up another sandwich and began eating it as music began playing. People went out into the open space of the dance floor and began dancing together. Evangeline continued eating, occasionally taking sips of her drink as she did. Blaise Zabini walked over to where the two sisters stood, a smirk on his face.

"Hey, Vivian. Evangeline," he greeted. Vivian playfully rolled her eyes at him. "Blaise. I'm surprised to see you here. Are you someone's date?" She said. "No, I happen to be a member of the Slug Club," he replied. "Really? You?" She asked before laughing. He narrowed his eyes at her. "I'm only joking, Blaise," she said. Blaise Zabini was one of Vivian's friends and probably the only male Slytherin that the girl liked. And to Evangeline, he was one of the few Slytherins that were bearable.

"Did you need something?" Vivian asked him. He turned to Evangeline. "Actually I wanted to know if your sister would like to dance with me?" He said. Evangeline's eyebrows raised. "Me?" She asked and he nodded. "Why?" He shrugged, "Why not?" Evangeline narrowed her eyes at him before shrugging. She took another sip of her drink before placing it and her plate onto the nearest table.

"Watch my food," she said to Vivian. Evangeline took Blaise's outstretched hand and he led her onto the dance floor. He spun her around before placing a hand on her waist, his other hand to still holding onto hers. She placed her free hand on his shoulder and the two began moving from side to side. "Is there a reason that you wanted to dance?" Evangeline asked him.

Blaise shrugged, "You looked miserable. I thought a dance might cheer you up." Evangeline shook her head. "Why would you think that?" She asked. "Because dancing makes everything better," he replied. She bit back a smile and rolled her eyes. He spun her around again before returning his hand to her waist. "So, why do you look so miserable?" He asked. "I didn't even know that I looked miserable," she replied.

"Then I take it you haven't looked in a mirror lately," he said. She used the hand on his shoulder to smack him. He looked at her expectantly and she sighed. "You might already know about my break up with Ronald," she began and he nodded.

"I know I shouldn't still be feeling this way and maybe if the circumstances were different then I wouldn't. But immediately after he broke up with me, he started dating Lavender Brown, claiming that he was in love with her. And, it just hurt, you know," she continued. The two were still swaying from side to side. "He and I were supposed to come here together. So, being here is the last place that I wanted to be. I just came in hopes that it could somehow cheer me up," she said.

"And has it?" Blaise asked. Evangeline sighed, "Not really, no." He nodded his head, "Well, the night has only just begun. I'm sure I can turn your mood around by the end of it." Evangeline smiled slightly. "That's very kind of you, Blaise," she said. "Well, not all Slytherin are awful people," he replied. "I'm starting to realize that," she said. He smiled at her. The two continued dancing, Blaise occasionally spinning her around and dipping her.

"Just so you know, I'm only doing this to be nice. I don't want you getting the wrong idea and thinking that I'm into you," Blaise said. Evangeline sighed, "Good. Because I am not interested in getting into a relationship any time soon." He nodded, "Glad we're on the same page." When the song ended, the two made their way back to Vivian who had been eating during the entirety of it.

"Your turn, Caspian," Blaise said to her. Vivian rolled her eyes, taking his hand and letting him lead her to the dance floor as another song began. Evangeline sat down at the table, picking up some of the food on her plate and eating it. Hermione rushed over to her, Aldon in tow. The girl plopped into the seat next to Evangeline.

"Hi," Evangeline greeted. "Hey, you having fun?" Hermione replied. "I suppose," Evangeline replied before looking behind Hermione and sending Aldon a wave. "Hey, Evangeline," he said before turning to Hermione. "I'm gonna get us some drinks," he said. Hermione nodded and he walked away. "So, how's your date?" Evangeline asked.

Hermione sighed in content, "Really good. Aldon and I have a lot in common. But not too much. He was telling me all sorts of interesting stories and, it's just been so great. He's great." Evangeline smiled at her. "You're gushing," she pointed out. Hermione looked down, "So what if I am?"

Evangeline's smile widened. "I'm glad you're having fun. You'll have to tell me all of the juicy details later on," she said and Hermione nodded. Aldon had returned with the drinks and Hermione stood. "I'll see you later?" She said. Evangeline nodded and the two were off. Evangeline bit her lip and picked up her glass, taking another sip of her drink.

The party went on for a few more hours before it finally ended. Evangeline and Vivian returned to their respective houses and later on that night, Hermione told Evangeline and Cleo all about her date with Aldon.
