Hermione led Evangeline back to the Gryffindor common room. Once they reached it and Hermione told the Fat Lady the password, they walked into the common room where the celebration had already begun. Evangeline could hear the Gryffindor students cheering Ron's name before she was all the way inside the common room. She tried to keep her emotions in check as Hermione pushed through the crowd.

It seemed that the two had arrived just in time to see the blonde girl that Evangeline had been having a bad feeling about, pull Ron to her and press her lips to his own. Ron begun kissing her back and the cheering slowed to a stop. Evangeline froze, her heart breaking even further in her chest. A crushing weight pushed against her chest, making it harder for her to breathe. She must have been Lavender.

Everyone was confused to see Ron and Lavender kissing because they knew that he was dating Evangeline. People looked between the two snogging and the broken hearted girl who couldn't seem to look away from the scene in front of her. Hermione was desperately trying to pull Evangeline away from the scene. Cleo was staring at Ron, eyes wide.

Evangeline finally snapped out of her daze and turned to the exit of the common room, Hermione chasing after her. Harry caught a glimpse of Evangeline running out of the common room before he turned back to Ron. He and Lavender were still kissing. "Oi, Ron! What are you doing?" Dean asked, pulling Ron away from the blonde girl. Harry made his way over to his best friend, more shocked than anyone else.

"Have you lost your mind? What— you're dating Evangeline!" He exclaimed. "Not anymore. He broke up with her," Lavender answered for the redhead. She was rather smug. Harry glared at the girl before turning back to his friend. "Ron? What's going on?" Harry asked him. "Nothing's going on, Harry. It just didn't work out," Ron answered. "Oh, and just when were you planning on telling me this?" Harry asked.

"I just did," Ron replied. Harry stepped away from him, shaking his head. He turned around and walked out of the common room, going to find Evangeline and Hermione.

Evangeline was sat next to Hermione on some stairs. The Granger girl had cast the bird making charm in an attempt to cheer her friend up. Multiple birds were flapping around the two. Evangeline usually liked birds, but right now, she couldn't even think about enjoying the flying creatures. She stared straight ahead, not a single word leaving her mouth. Hermione had an arm wrapped around her, though she didn't speak either.

Her eyebrows were furrowed in concern as she watched her silent friend. They heard footsteps coming down the stairs from behind them. And while Evangeline didn't dare move, Hermione turned around to see who it was. Harry walked down to where the two were, taking a seat next to Evangeline. The three remained silent.

"Is this how you feel, Harry? Seeing Dean and Ginny together," Evangeline mumbled. Harry looked at her with sadness in his eyes. He didn't say anything, not knowing what to say. "I know. I see the way you look at her. It's so obvious, you know?" She continued. "You and Ron are not the same," he said quietly and she scoffed. "There is no more me and Ron," she replied.

"He's just being stupid right now. He'll come to his senses," Harry tried and Evangeline shook her head. More tears gathered in her eyes and slowly trickled down her cheeks. "It doesn't make sense. He really just broke up with you? Out of nowhere?" Hermione questioned. Evangeline nodded solemnly and looked up at the birds that continued to circle above their heads.

Laughter was heard then and two figures appeared before the three friends. Evangeline looked up at them before quickly looking away once she realized who it was. Lavender and Ron stood in front of them. Hermione's face hardened immediately. "Oops! I think this room's taken," Lavender said to Ron. She then began pulling on his arm but he pulled it out of her grasp, looking up at the birds.

"What's with the birds?" He asked curiously. He sounded as though he were in a daze. Evangeline looked down at the ground, more tears falling from her eyes and onto it. Hermione stood, a newfound anger in her veins. "Oppugno," she said. The birds that she had created circled around and formed a line before charging at the Weasley boy. Ron ran away from them, stopping as they hit the wall next to him. He looked at Hermione in confusion before leaving, not sparing a glance Evangeline's way.

Hermione sat back down next to her friend whose cries grew louder. Harry scooted closer to Evangeline, holding out an arm for her to take. She did, resting her head on his shoulder and continuing to cry. Hermione's arm was again wrapped around her friend's body. "Yeah. This is what it feels like," Harry said quietly, "But, not as bad as this."

Evangeline closed her eyes and willed herself to stop crying. But she couldn't. The tears just wouldn't stop.

Evangeline hadn't gone to class the next day, claiming that she wasn't feeling well. It was true and not just an excuse to get out of class. I mean, sure she was heartbroken and the last person that she wanted to see was in most of her classes. But she wasn't going to let a boy dictate her life.

The morning after the incident, Evangeline woke up feeling terrible. Her nose was stuffed, her head was pounding, and there was an unbearable aching in her ribs and chest. Hermione and Cleo had taken her to Madam Pomfrey, the former promising to bring the girl her assignments. Madam Pomfrey had confirmed that Evangeline wasn't in one hundred percent health. The woman didn't know what was wrong with her. Her best guess was that it had to do with the events at the Department of Mysteries the prior year. But, neither she nor Evangeline thought that this could be the case seeing as that happened many months ago. Either way, Madam Pomfrey had given Evangeline medicines for the pain and stuffed nose.

Vivian was by her side as soon as she was finished with her classes. She would have been there before if Evangeline hadn't assured her that she was fine. Once the older girl had come back, she noticed that her sister wasn't herself. Evangeline had told her about what had happened with Ron and even Vivian was confused about the whole situation. None of it was making sense to her either.

Evangeline didn't want to think about Ron or his reasoning for breaking up with her. Nor did she care that things didn't seem to add up. She wasn't going to spend her time trying to get the boy back, no matter how much she cared about him. He broke up with her. He hurt her. She didn't want to put herself in a situation like that again. It was then that Evangeline decided that she was done with relationships.

After getting a clean bill of health from Madam Pomfrey, who still wasn't sure what had happened with the girl, Evangeline made her way back to her room. Vivian went with her, the two laying on Evangeline's bed. Neither of them said anything, which Evangeline was happy about. She wasn't in the mood for conversations.

It wasn't long after that Vivian had left, going to get the girl some food from the Great Hall. Evangeline sat at her desk, doodling into one of her notebooks. She felt tired, probably a side effect of one of the medicines that she had taken. Evangeline found herself dozing off, only waking up when Vivian had returned with food.

The eldest Caspian made Evangeline eat, threatening her if she didn't. It was silent for most of the time that they ate. "Professor Slughorn, you know the Potions Professor, he's having this Christmas party with a select few students," Evangeline began. "The Slug Club," Vivian said, slightly snickering. Evangeline nodded her head. "We're supposed to bring someone. I, I was supposed to go with... you know, but that's obviously not happening anymore so—" Vivian cut her off.

"Yes, I will be your date to Slughorn's party," she said. Evangeline nodded gratefully, though she didn't smile. "Thanks, Viv. You're the best," she said. Vivian flipped her hair over her shoulder. "Don't you forget it," she replied. Evangeline rolled her eyes and took a sip of her water before continuing to eat her food.

Vivian watched her silently, trying not to be concerned. Though, she couldn't help it. Already, she could see Evangeline beginning to close herself up again and she didn't like it in the slightest. Something funky was going on and Vivian planned on getting to the bottom of it.
