Dear Diary,

I spent a few hours in the clinic today. Something unexpected happened, which kept me from attending afternoon practice.

While I was walking to the gym, a basketball hit me square in the forehead. The impact knocked me off balance, and I ended up falling flat on the ground. I can still recall the way my back hit the floor. Even though it hurt, my first thought was whether I’d gotten any dirt on my uniform. I don’t want Grandma to worry about it.

As I lay there, I saw someone rushing toward me with a concerned expression. I squinted my eyes through the pain and realized it was her.
