June could barely focus during the town hall meeting called in the church. As Cassandra explained the plan she saw for their future in their new replica home, June couldn't help but let her eyes rest on Allie. Even when Cassandra asked fro a show of hands, June had to be nudged by some random kid next to her to join in. She wasn't used to feeling so out of it.
She was thankful when the meeting ended and she was able to look at the job assignments posted. According to Cassandra, Gordie had started working on them the second Cassandra even mentioned it. The older Pressman girl had also informed June about the upcoming prom they were throwing, but she really didn't want to think much about that.
June made her way towards the small group of people huddled around the posted job assignment. Her eyes landed on a heap of curly blonde hair only a few steps ahead of her and her stomach immediately clenched. She could recognize Allie anywhere. The two hadn't spoken much since the kiss, and all June wanted was to talk to her.
"Hey," The brunette worked up the nerve and spoke softly. Allie turned her head slowly, her expression falling she laid eyes on the other girl.
"Oh, hey," Her voice was strained and distant, and after giving a slight nod of the head she trained her eyes forward.
"How have you been?" June asked, mentally cursing herself for how stupid the question was. The group in front of them was slowly starting to disperse so that they would be able to see the sheet soon.
"Um, as good as I can be, I guess," Allie pressed her lips into a firm line, pushing forward now so that they can both see.
"Look, I just think maybe we should talk..." June sighed, wishing Allie would even look at her. The blonde girl's eyes were focused on the sheet of paper as her expression hardened.
"They picked you..." Allie murmured, seemingly more to herself than to June.
"What?" June furrowed her eyebrows together. Her eyes traced to where Allie's finger was placed on the sign up sheet.
Typed in big, bold letters was the members of the town's new council. Cassandra was the first on it, which came as no shock. As June let her eyes trace over the other member's names, her mouth fell slightly agape as she read her own. Then, a feeling of immense guilt washed over her as she realized Allie's wasn't there.
"Allie, I didn't know they would—" June started to try and defend herself before she was cut off.
"Save it," Allie murmured before quickly storming off.
June whirled around, letting her eyes follow the girl as she hurried away. She knew going after her would just make things worse, no matter how badly she wanted to. The group of people who had been in line to check their assignment looked between June and Allie, exchanging uncomfortable glances in the meantime. June quickly regained her composure, not wanting to be apart of the town's gossip, before taking off in the opposite direction.
She realized she'd have to figure out how to get Allie back later. It would drive her crazy if she didn't.

June's fingers curled around the tray of food in her hands as she glanced around the cafeteria. Ever since her fight with Allie, she had felt really alone, and often found herself spending her time in solitude. She didn't want to be the loser who sat alone at lunch, but as she glanced around, she realized she might not have any other option.
"June!" A timid voice called out, saving her from the embarrassment and solitude she feared. Her head shot up in the direction of the voice, and a small smile settled on her face as she realized it was Elle shyly waving her over.
"Hey," June gave a sigh of relief as she plopped down across from the blonde girl.
"I feel like I haven't talked to you in forever," Elle granted her a small smile before looking down at her lap. It was true, the two hadn't spoken since that night on Elle's porch. June wasn't avoiding her, but after realizing the girl would never feel the same way about her and all of her Allie drama, she just hadn't had the time. "Oh! Congrats on making the council, by the way."
"Thanks," June snorted, moving her food around with her fork. "I didn't really ask to be on it, but I guess I should be excited."
"Must be a perk of being an honorary Pressman, I guess," Elle noted, a slight teasing tone lacing her words.
June's heart banged a bit at the idea, missing the little family she had been adopted into the first two weeks. She mentally cursed herself for ruining things, the way she knew she always did. She also recognized that Elle still referring to her as an honorary Pressman meant that word hadn't travelled that she was no longer spending time there, yet. Then, she had to remind herself that even if word did travel, it probably wouldn't ever reach Elle.
"I guess," June shrugged. She forced a smile onto her face, not wanting to be so down while spending time with Elle. She knew the two didn't get to very often. "So, anyways, how have you been? Hows your work assignment?"
Elle almost immediately rolled her eyes.
"Garbage, of course. Just my luck," She sighed.
"Well, I mean, if you ever need help or want someone to keep you company, you could always text me," June offered, hoping her voice didn't sound as desperate as she thought it did.
"June Thompson, you would voluntarily help with garbage duty for me?" The blonde emphasized the task, her eyebrows raising as she asked the question.
"I mean, yeah, why not?" June tried to come off as nonchalant. "Like you said, we never see each other anymore."
"Wow, where have you been all my life?" Elle placed a hand on her heart and spoke teasingly.
Elle seemed to study June for a split second, a warm smile firmly planted on her face. June looked back, wondering what the expression meant. Elle seemed to look at her in a way that no one else in her life ever had, like she was some precious gem no one else had. June wanted desperately for her words and the look to mean something more, but as Elle broke eye contact and both girl's giggled, she convinced herself it was nothing.
"What's funny?" A deep voice questioned from behind Elle.
Campbell Elliot plopped down beside Elle, a grin on his face. There was no way to ruin June's mood quicker. Elle seemed taken aback at first before she seemed to force herself to calm down and smile.
"Nothing, just something June said," Elle shook her head. Campbell nodded, glancing between the two girls. He seemed to put in the effort to make his grin seem somewhat soft and human for Elle, but he held none of that warmth with June.
"Alright," He nodded, not caring enough to press on. His arms were held behind his back, and from her place on the other side of the table, June could see he held a box.
Even though she could never grow tired of the time she spent with Elle, she wanted desperately to get away from Campbell. If it were up to her, she'd keep Elle away from him, too. But, it wasn't up to her. Elle could make her own decisions, and she chose to be with Campbell. June would just have to live with that.
Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of her phone dinging. She quickly slid over on the screen and opened up the notification she had received. To her surprise, it was a text from Cassandra.
'Come over ASAP' The text read.
June's heart raced as her mind immediately jumped to the worst. All she could imagine was that something was wrong. Perhaps Allie told Cassandra about the kiss and now she was mad, too. Or maybe something bad had happened. She stood abruptly, causing both Elle and Campbell to eye her. Elle looked worried while Campbell simply looked relieved.
"Is everything okay?" Elle questioned.
"Yeah, I think, maybe," June stuttered, shaking her head. "I just have to go."
"Are you sure?" Elle questioned. Her tone and the look in her eyes was almost enough to make June stay. June shook the thought away, knowing Cassandra texting her had to be serious.
"Yeah, Cassandra texted me," June affirmed. "But, um, you can just text me, if you ever need anything."
Elle simply nodded as Campbell impatiently awaited June's departure. She couldn't help but silently curse how awful she was with girls. She always stuttered, or said the wrong thing. She wished she had more experience, or that she didn't constantly make a fool of herself.
June hurried and threw out her trash. Just as she was about to leave she glanced back at the table she had just been at, watching as Elle pulled out what looked to be a navy blue dress from the box that had been behind Campbell's back. She sighed, knowing Elle Tomkins was forbidden fruit, then pushed outside.
The sprint to the Pressman's house went by in a blur. She couldn't pay attention to the passing scenery or time as her brain ran through every possible option for why Cassandra wanted to see her. Of course, she focused more on the negative ones, because that was just who she was. When she finally arrived at the home, she realized she was out of breath, but did her best to conceal it as she knocked on the door.
"Finally," Cassandra breathed a sigh of relief when she opened the door. She reached out her arm and took ahold of June's wrist, dragging her in.
"What's wrong?" June questioned as soon as she was inside, not wasting any time for Cassandra to explain herself.
Cassandra seemed to glance at the stairs that led upstairs before holding a finger up to her lips, signaling for June to be quiet. She then beckoned her to follow her into the kitchen. Once inside, she leaned against the counter and sighed.
"I really messed up,"
June furrowed her eyebrows together, waiting for the girl to continue.
"I know I couldn't have put Allie on the council without backlash, but I should have told her before," She sighed. "I just didn't know how she'd take it. I put you on because you and Allie think similarly, and when pushed enough, you stand up for what you believe in, like her. But to her, it was like I picked you over her. And now I don't know what to do."
"I don't know—" June started.
"And I know you guys have been fighting, or something, but I didn't know who else to call. I think Will would just make things worse, especially with everything with Kelly," Cassandra rambled on, making sure to keep her voice low.
"Well what do you want me to do?"
"Well for one, I want you to make up with Allie," Cassandra started. "If she realizes she can get a say through you, maybe that will help. Then, I want you to move in. For real."
"What?" June questioned, taken back.
"Everyone's moving in with each other now, and I can't picture you living anywhere else but here. So, go upstairs, make up with Allie, then go home and get your stuff," Cassandra ordered.
Before June could protest, Cassandra was ushering her towards the stairs. June didn't think, she just let her feet carry her up the familiar stairs then down the hall towards Allie's room. She stopped right at the door, her nerves beginning to take a toll on her. Before she could psych herself out too much, she raised her hand and knocked on the door, waiting for Allie to yell 'come in' before twisting the door knob.
"Oh," Allie spoke as soon as her eyes fell on June. She sat up in her bed, her lips forming into a tight line. "What are you doing here?"
"I thought we should talk," June words came out shakily. She shifted her weight from one foot to the other as she stood planted in the doorway.
"About what?" Allie avoided eye contact with the girl, pretending to pick at her nails. Her voice held the tone of someone who truly couldn't care less, but June wondered if that was actually how she felt.
"Don't do that..." June sighed, taking a step into the room.
"Do what?"
"That! Play dumb!" June finally broke. "You know, you're doing the exact same thing to me that Will did to you. And who was there for you then? Me!"
Allie seemed to jump back at June's sudden raise in tone. She had never known the girl to get loud, at least not with her, until recently. Slowly, she finally raised her eyes towards the brunette girl.
"Look Allie, I'm sorry. I'm not sure if I was still drunk or if I was just emotional, but I shouldn't have kissed you, okay?" June paused, searching Allie's face for any change in emotion. "But, the way you're treating me now, isn't fair. You expected Will to forgive you, so I would hope you would do the same for me."
Allie seemed to mull over June's words. She knew she had a point. Anyone knew that. June was in the exact position Allie had been in about two weeks before. Allie stared down at her palms, drawing in a deep breath before patting the spot beside her on her bed. As June made her way over and tentatively sat down beside her, Allie lifted her eyes to her.
"You're right, I'm sorry."
June was taken back, not expecting it to be that easy. She thought, with how stubborn Allie was, there would be much more yelling before they could even think about getting along again. A small smile grew on her face at the prospect of finally getting her friend back.
"I do have to ask one thing, though," Allie bit down on her lip. When June nodded, she pressed on. "Do you like girls?"
June drew in a breath, expecting the question to come up. Despite already coming out to two people, it didn't feel like it was getting any easier. June avoided eye contact with Allie, staring down at her lap as she nodded her head.
"Yes," She mumbled softly.
Allie nodded and stood up from her bed. June's stomach churned, wondering if Allie would yell or ask her to leave. Some part of her knew she wouldn't, but the fear remained every time. Instead, Allie simply made her way to her closet and began pushing clothes around.
"So, what are you wearing to prom?" The blonde questioned over her shoulder.
And just like that, June Thompson and Allie Pressman were back to normal.
A/N: It's literally been 84 years. But I'm back. Pls enjoy. I've missed my bb June :'(
