"where are you taking me?" taehyung asked as jimin dragged him along into his backyard. it was already dark out, around 9 pm on a thursday. they had friday off for the homecoming game and then saturday was the dance.
"don't question it!" jimin said, opening the gate and pulling him inside.
he was greeted by fairy lights strung up in the trees and on top of the fence, music playing throughout the area.
the whole group was there, either sitting at the picnic bench next to the tree or around a small fire in a firepit. a checkered blanket was thrown over the picnic table with bowls of snacks and drinks, a large screen hanging from the fence with a projector a few yards away.
"what... is this?" taehyung asked, seeing namjoon and hoseok standing over by the projector, trying to figure out how to pull up a movie.
jin was standing at the picnic table, arranging more foods.
yoongi and jeongguk were sitting by the fire, talking quietly.
"we're throwing a homecoming weekend party!! just with us though." jimin said.
"oh.." taehyung said, looking around at everyone.
"come on, we're about to play bags." he said, letting go and running over to help hoseok and namjoon with the projector.
taehyung wasn't as upbeat as he should've been. he still didn't have a homecoming date and it was only two days away.
the party itself was so cute and relaxing but he couldn't help but to sulk. celebrating for something he wouldn't be going to. he wasn't going to go with jimin this year because he wanted to go with his boyfriends since it was their senior year and they would be gone next year.
taehyung walked over to the table, grabbing some animal crackers and putting them in a clear cup. "hey, hyung." he said with a smile, looking at his brother.
"hi taehyung! welcome. i'm glad jimin woke you up. you're going to bed too early." jin said with a laugh.
"i was tired." he pouted.
"i'm sorry, you can sleep in after this though, since you don't have school tomorrow." jin said.
"yeah, that's true." taehyung said, munching on an animal cracker.
"babe, come here!" namjoon called out.
"i'll be right back." he said, walking over to namjoon to see what the problem was.
taehyung sighed, sitting down at the picnic table and staring off into space, feeding himself an animal cracker every thirty seconds.
jeongguk noticed this, excusing himself from his conversation with yoongi and standing up, walking over to sit next to taehyung.
"hey." he said with a smile.
taehyung snapped out of his trance, looking up at jeongguk. "hi." he murmured.
"are you okay? you seem sad." he said, frowning.
taehyung shrugged his shoulders. "it's nothing important." he muttered.
"everything's important when it comes to you." jeongguk said, causing taehyung to blush and stare down at his lap.
"i don't have a homecoming date. it shouldn't be a big deal, but jimin isn't going to go with me so i don't know what to do." he said sadly.
jeongguk bit his lip, sighing and rubbing his eyes.
he was planning on asking taehyung tomorrow at the big homecoming game. but... seeing him so upset in front of him right at that moment made him change his mind.
"taehyung..." jeongguk said.
"hm?" he asked, glancing up at the older.
"i was planning on doing this tomorrow for it to be more romantic but screw it i'm doing it now. will you go to homecoming with me?" he asked quickly, turning and grabbing taehyung's hands.
he blinked, eyes wide. "w-what?" he asked.
"will you, taehyung, be my homecoming date?" he asked again.
taehyung felt as if his words just melted off of his tongue, leaving him speechless. all he could do was nod.
a wave of relief washed over jeongguk's features and he smiled widely, like a bunny.
"i'm so sorry for asking so late. i wanted to make it this huge romantic gesture at the game tomorrow but you were so sad and upset and i couldn't stand seeing you like that any longer." he explained, his heart pounding against his chest.
jeongguk was just as shy and whipped for taehyung as he was for jeongguk. the older was a nervous wreck.
"so i just bought a normal black tux and i have a few ties that are different colors to match whatever you were planning on wearing so just let me know and-hmph!"
he was interrupted when taehyung attacked him in a hug, nuzzling his face into his neck and wrapping his arms around his shoulders.
jeongguk blushed, hooking his arms around taehyung's waist and holding him close.
"thank you jeonggukie." he whispered, his nose brushing just underneath jeongguk's ear, causing him to smile.
"you're welcome. i'm just glad you said yes because i know you wanted to go with someone, sorry to disappoint." he murmured, resting his cheek against taehyung's head.
taehyung giggled, the sound filling jeongguk's ear and sending tingles down his spine.
"you're the one i wanted to go with, ggukie." he said, unable to control his adorable laughter.
"r-really?" jeongguk asked, pulling his head back slightly to look at taehyung.
the boy nodded, a wide boxy smile on his lips.
jeongguk grinned, pulling him back in for another embrace.
"everyone gather around! we're playing bags!" jin shouted.
the two pulled away from another and jeongguk stood up, holding out his hand for taehyung to take.
they walked over to the group with their fingers intertwined, deciding teams.
after playing bags they all ate some food and snacks at the picnic table, jin making a ton of jokes and causing namjoon and jimin to choke on their food from laughter.
the others just sighed, shaking their heads.
"okay, enough of this. movie time!" hoseok said, standing up.
"yay!!" taehyung said, getting up and running over to the mass of blankets and pillows they had set out for everyone to lay on.
everyone followed him while jimin went to start the movie. they were watching "up."
"oh no, this movie makes me cry." jeongguk said, sitting down next to taehyung.
"me too." taehyung pouted, grabbing a blanket and laying it over their legs.
as the movie started, jeongguk felt a hand slip into his underneath the blanket. he glanced over at taehyung, seeing a faint blush on his cheeks.
he smiled, letting go of his hand to wrap it around his waist and pull him closer.
taehyung squeaked softly, before relaxing and leaning into jeongguk's side, cuddling close to him.
the movie started, and the entire atmosphere of the backyard was calm and homey. everyone was with the people they loved and the soft chatter between them filled the area, the fairy lights providing a warm glow and the blankets providing comfort.
it couldn't have gotten any better.

it was the big homecoming game. the stands would be packed, that was for sure. taehyung and jimin had done their faces with makeup that matched the team colors, blue and yellow.
they arrived early, wearing sweatpants and sweatshirts with their school logo on it since it was slightly chilly, and to represent.
they found good seats, munching on some popcorn they bought. jin was down at concessions helping namjoon, since he was a teacher and had to help supervise the kids that volunteered to work concessions.
namjoon had asked jin if he wanted to help and he gladly accepted because one: he wanted to be with his boyfriend and two: he liked feeding people.
the game wasn't starting for another thirty minutes, a few people and parents arriving early and sitting down, setting up their soft cushions on the bleachers so their butts won't hurt.
"hey, isn't that jeongguk's mom?" jimin asked, nudging taehyung and pointing to the stairs where a lady with similar features to jeongguk was walking up the steps.
"i don't know, i've never met his mom before.." taehyung muttered.
she came and sat behind them, oblivious that one of the boys in front of her was her sons homecoming date.
jimin turned around, smiling up at her. "excuse me, are you jeon jeongguk's mother by any chance?" he asked.
"oh! yes, i am! do i know you?" she asked, smiling.
"i'm park jimin and this is my best friend kim taehyung." he said with a smile, holding out his hand.
she shook it, her eyes widening in recognition. "oh my gosh, you're the boy my son is taking to homecoming! you're so handsome!" she said with a grin, staring at taehyung.
he blushed shyly, staring at his lap. "thank you." he replied.
"you're so cute. no wonder my son likes you! he talks about you a lot." she said, giggling.
"h-he does?" taehyung asked, blushing even more.
"yep! he's always gushing about how cute you look! it's the most adorable thing. i've never seen him get so giddy before." she said.
taehyung smiled, blushing again and pulling on the sleeves of his sweatshirt.
"w-well i think your son is very sweet and handsome. he's been nothing but kind to me. he's really a great guy." taehyung said.
"that's good to hear." she said with a smile.
more people started to arrive, filling up the stands. soon enough it was completely packed, not a single spot open in the stadium.
"wow, this is crazy! i've never seen it this busy before." taehyung said.
the players ran out onto the field, so jimin and taehyung immediately clapped and cheered, standing up as the band started to play their theme song.
they clapped and sang along, cheering and waving at jeongguk.
he noticed them, waving back with a bunny smile which was hidden by his helmet.
taehyung sighed in content, still amazed that his homecoming date was the jeon jeongguk. the most handsomest and sweetest guy in school.
jimin insisted him and taehyung took a selfie so he could post it online and show off their makeup.
taehyung smiled into the camera, jimin's face squished up against his.
he watched curiously as jimin added a filter and then put a caption, posting it to his instagram.
"there! all done." he said with a smile.
taehyung laughed, facing the field and watching as the game started.
the game was going well until all of a sudden jeongguk was slammed to the ground, multiple players piling on top of him.
taehyung gasped, feeling sick to his stomach when he heard jeongguk scream in pain, and saw that his leg was twisted underneath the doggy pile of people.
