“So what I got from this phone call, is that there’s a good-looking kindergarten teacher, who has a relationship with Minjun like no other person aside from us has with him-”

“Jin~” Jimin whines, knowing that his brother enjoys teasing him. Running his hand through his brown hair, Jimin sighs while he passes the bakery that’s on the way to his son’s kindergarten. He feels like pouting, like a teenager who gets teased about a hypothetical crush - which Jimin deeply denies with all his will. He can't have a crush on Jungkook.

“Shh… Lemme finish,” Jin interrupts and clears his throat before he continues where he left off. “So like I said, this good-looking man hangs out with Minjun and gets him to open up and you feel bothered when he just turns up in front of your door?"

Jimin can literally see the brow that he lifts with the last sentence. Contemplating what to say next, Jimin's teeth gnaw at his bottom lip and he closes his eyes for a second and stops near a supermarket.

"It’s not that exactly. It’s just… I’m not sure what I’m supposed to feel. There’s so much I don’t know about him. He's all friendly when I pick Minjun up but then there are moments where I have my doubts if he's really a kindergarten teacher or how's personality really is.”

There's a moment of silence and Jimin uses this chance to observe his surroundings. "What makes you doubt? I mean you haven't really said anything negative, understand I just want to make sense of what you're saying."

"No, I get it. For one he looks around my age if not younger and he seems like someone who's not there on his own will. I'm not saying this because of his tattoos or because he looks young but the way he communicates with children as if he's new to this and the only one who he can communicate or build a teacher-child relationship with is my son and then the sudden visits…”

“Min,” Jin intervenes, “he has to start somewhere, if he’s young he’s most likely new to being a teacher.”

“I do get that, but it just feels weird. I love Minjun and you know I hate saying no, especially when it concerns a third person who stands in close distance. But I had to say yes - twice - when Minjun asked me if we could invite him in. The first time he visited was weird enough how he just-"

Jimin rambles while his gaze strays to the object he's heading to. His eyes get stuck on something that lets him halt in his steps right after he pushed through the first entrance door of the kindergarten. Standing in the small yard, Jimin stands faced to the big glass windows. From there he can perfectly see the doors to the group rooms and to his dismay the hallway too. Seeing Jungkook talking to someone rather familiar has him so focused that he has even zoned out from the telephone call.

"Hello? Jimin, you there?"

"Yeah, I-" The man in question blinks and presses the red call button after he completes his sentence. "I'll call you back."

As soon as he ends the call, Jimin puts his phone in his back pocket and lets his gaze get pulled back to the scene in front of him. He takes his time to observe Jungkook talking animatedly to none other than Meeyon.

What is she doing here? It's the first time seeing her here. Did Meeyon change the kindergarten for her daughter recently? Subconsciously he balls his hands into fists, watching as Jungkook speaks to her in a friendly manner and with a bunny smile on his lips. Do they know each other? Something ugly starts to spread in his chest at the sight, but he chooses to ignore it the second he steps through the glass door, making himself aware that he won't be able to dodge Meeyon.

Just then Jungkook's eyes fall on his demeanor as Jimin's about to speak up, the latter can see in the corner of his eyes how Meeyon's hand falls back to her side. Jimin sure would notice how there are sparkles in Jungkook’s eyes if he weren't too focused on the words he's already forming in his mind.

"What are you doing here, Meeyon?" Jimin's aware that he's rude, but he can't hide his annoyance when he saw her reach out to Jungkook. Something about this made him curl his hands into fists, knuckles turning white at the thought that she tried to do more than friendly talking with Jungkook.

Something about this irks him.

"Oh, Jimin. You're taking your little one to this kindergarten? What a coincidence, I was here to file a form for my daughter to change kindergarten. Maybe this time-"

"No," the dark- brown haired man cuts off her words and attempts to keep up a mask that wouldn't reveal how he would feel about seeing her, about her seemingly trying to throw herself at Jungkook, about her entering his life again and turning it into a mess of different emotions and past moments he doesn't want to think about. In his eyes it seems like Meeyon hasn't changed much from her high school self to today. In other words, she's someone he doesn't want to put up with and surprisingly not anywhere near Jungkook.

Meeyon furrows her brows and now crosses her arms over her chest, her face morphs into a stern expression. How can someone be that dense?

"What do you mean, no?"

Jimin purses his lips, not entirely sure how to answer. Is she asking this because she's oblivious or does she do it on purpose? Nonetheless, Jimin wants to give her a piece of advice. If he's right about what she was going to ask if they could meet up and let their children play, but he doesn't trust her.

Jimin never trusted her in high school and he's determined to not start today or any time soon.

Just then Jungkook clears his throat and speaks up, pulling Jimin out of his reverie. "Uh- I'm sorry to interrupt, you two know each other?"

In that moment Jimin snaps his head to Jungkook and catches the rather confused but soft expression that hushes over his face. Right now the taller appears so young with his brown doe eyes and aura that Jimin would guess Jungkook is even younger than him. He scrunches his nose as his thoughts drift again.

"We were actually classmates in high school. Not that close but I'd say we were on good terms," she explains, ignoring the snort that comes from Jimin.

"Woah, unbelievable. First you don't get the hint that I don't want to have anything to do with you but now you also lie. We weren't close at all,” Jimin says with annoyance in his voice and feels anger building up under his skin. She triggers memories in him that he wanted to forget.

“Jimin-”

“Sorry for the interruption, but would you mind taking your argument somewhere else?” Hoseok’s voice rises just when Meeyon wants to speak up. Not only has their argument gotten the attention of Hoseok but also a few children from a nearby room. Jimin feels his cheeks tinge with pink and looks slightly embarrassed at the ground.

“I’m sorry,” he apologises and bows his head, feeling nothing but embarrassment upon having all the attention on him. He can hear in the background Hoseok asking Jungkook ‘Why didn’t you say anything?’ and him responding with ‘What was I supposed to say? I’m still confused’.

Having totally forgotten that Jungkook was standing there for a second, Jimin drops his head again after he had eye contact with Jungkook. Will Jungkook think now he’s easy to rile up and get himself into arguments with?

Meeyon doesn’t want to let this go and is about to open her mouth when Jimin gets called. Again, however, this time it’s not coming from Jungkook or Hoseok, but Minjun who exits the group room. He stops shortly after, feeling shy from all gazes. Hesitantly, Minjun steps forward, coming to stop and hide behind Jungkook’s legs. In the meantime Hoseok ushers the other kids back in the room and closes the door, so no one can spy on them.

“Appa!” Minjun’s soft voice sounds in the hallway, shyly hiding from Meeyon and clutching on Jungkook’s pants. Jimin immediately understands that he feels uncomfortable so he grabs upperhand of this situation.

“Jungkook, can I talk to you?” Jimin asks and adds while peering at Meeyon. “Under four eyes.”

His words cause Meeyon to scoff and look back at him with an unapproving gaze. Annoyance flashes over her face, tongue peeking between her lips and wiping over her bottom lip. Jimin mentally rolls his eyes. Can a person be even more dramatic?

With a sweet smile, she says goodbye to Jungkook and goes to the door, where she looks back at them once more and then finally disappears through the door.

“You wanted to talk to me?” The kindergarten teacher catches Jimin's attention, the second Meeyon is out of sight, and Jimin can only shake his head in disapproval.

“No… it was just… you know.” I just wanted her to leave.

The taller one gets the message and scratches the back of his head as a strange atmosphere hangs between them. His other hand disappears into his pocket before he puts his other hand on Minjun's head and slowly strokes his hair. This seems to bring the little one out of his rigidity and come out from behind Jungkook's legs again with an uncertain mood.

Cautiously, Minjun squints first at Jungkook and then at Jimin, having watched the entire event with wide eyes.

"Well, did you have fun with Jungkook today?"

"Yessss!" Minjun replies enthusiastically, stepping further out until he wraps his arms around Jimin's legs.

"Juju, I wanted to give you a reward as you were very brave in your first taekwondo lesson. I'm very proud of you. Is there anything you want?"

Minjun nods almost instantly. "Want ice cream!"

“Alright, then let’s go.” Jimin takes his hand and tugs at it, giving him the sign to follow him, but Minjun doesn’t budge. Irritated, Jimin turns to his son, only to see that he has wrapped his small hand around a few fingers of Jungkook's hand. As cute and fond this may be, Jimin refrains himself from cooing, not willing to give Jungkook any reason to think he’s fine with it when he’s still feeling conflicted.

"What's wrong, baby?" he worries at his child and lets his gaze slide to Jungkook, who just looks at him helplessly.

"Kookie come with us."

Oh, so that's what he wants? He wants to take Jungkook and him out for ice cream? If only it was all so simple… This would be the first time they would do something together in public. Would that even be allowed as Minjun's kindergarten teacher?

When Jimin thinks about it, wouldn't this be the perfect idea to get to know him?

"Minjun, maybe Jungkook doesn't have time," he tries to persuade his son, who begins to sulk. "Maybe he still has to work."

"But I want ice cream with Kookie." Minjun seems to know Jimin's weakness and is playing it against him at this moment. Brown and innocent eyes as big as plates look first at him and then up at Jungkook. It feels strange for Minjun to look at another adult person the way he would normally only look at Jimin or Jin. Not only that, the indecisive way Minjun sees Jungkook scares Jimin.

Does he see him as a kindergarten teacher? As a friend?

"We sure are going, but I don't know if Kook- Jungkook wants to come with us or has the time.” Jimin sees tears already gathering in Minjun's eyes and he stamps his foot petulantly. The single parent can only look at Jungkook with a glimmer of hope.

"Well, I-I'd already be off work, but I don't want to impose," the young-looking one says, nibbling his lip, Jimin's eyes briefly falling on the movement, which the former must have caught. Desperately, he tries to suppress a grin. Jungkook can't deny that he feels ecstatic and would love to tag along.

Jimin doesn't want to admit it, but Jungkook just got himself a plus one. What he said was respectful and it shows common sense if he doesn't invite himself without permission.

"You-you wouldn't. Minjun wants you to come."

'Would you like me to come too?' Jungkook wonders, but shakes his head and stops himself from saying the question. The thought of being able to get closer to the small family makes his heart skip a beat.

Will he learn more about Jimin in the process? Since the first day he saw Jimin, he has developed an interest. It was small, but began to grow with each time he talked. But it was supposed to be just the opposite. Jungkook is in school, but he is still nineteen years old, and anyway- where is his interest going to take him.

He would still be far too young to date a father with a child.

...right?

"Then I'll come with you. Just let me get my things quickly," Jungkook murmurs in a calm voice and wipes the individual tears from Minjun's cheek.

"Okay, great, then I'll help Minjun get dressed in the meantime."

After that, the student disengages with a gentle smile and instantly disappears into the room, while Jimin helps the little one to get dressed and then they walk together through the door, where Jungkook is already waiting for them.

"Eat ice cream! Yay!" The adults have to laugh as Minjun runs around them like an aeroplane with vigour. Finally he comes to a stop in front of Jungkook and raises both arms as if he wants to be lifted up again. But this time he doesn't ask to be hugged, but to be put on his shoulder. Hesitantly, he takes Minjun on his shoulders after receiving an approving look from Jimin.

If this is what being a parent feels like... Is this what it would feel like to date Jimin?
