๐“ฒ เฃชโ‚Šโ™ก๐“‚ƒ THE WALK FROM EMBRY'S TO JACOB'S WAS SHORT BUT PEACEFUL, quiet but necessary, especially for her mind which never took a break. She was a witch, she could do move things with just her hands and nobody seemed to be as affected by the news as much as she was.

Her mother? She's acting as if it never happened, as if she'd forgotten her daughter's an actual witch. Embry? He doesn't talk about it anymore, she felt alone without having someone to talk to about it all. Nobody else knew, except for basically everyone on the Rez, and she felt completely alone.

It only got worse as she approached Jacob's house, noticing Bella stood in the field before the pack members โ€” Sam Uley, Paul Lahote, Jared Cameron and Embry โ€” and she was seemingly arguing with them. Sophie hesitated, unsure if she should approach or not, fear overwhelming her but she paused, her brows furrowed.

She was a fucking witch for Pete's sake, what was she so afraid of?

So, with that little boost of self confidence, she placed her empty coffee cup in one of the bins outside the cabin and quickly made her way over to the group just as Bella slapped Paul Lahote in the face, "Oh!" Sophie covered her mouth, stopping in her tracks with wide eyes as Paul's breathing became heavy with extreme rage.

Embry, Jared, Sam and Bella all looked towards Sophie, acknowledging her presence, some more than others whilst Paul just heaved, his eyes on Bella, "Paul, calm down!" Sam warned the younger shapeshifter, but he didn't listen, his chest rising and falling heavily, "Girls, get back!"

Everything moved too fast for Sophie or Bella to comprehend, one minute Paul was himself, angry, hot and bothered and the next minute, he was jumping into the air, his clothes ripping from his body. When his feet landed back onto the ground, he was a large wolf, ten times the size of a normal one.

"Holyโ€” Get back, Bella." Sophie pushed the shocked girl behind her as Paul snapped his jaws towards Bella. Everyone tried to stay as far away as possible, though Embry was hesitating, wanting nothing more than to jump into front of his bestโ€”friend and protect her from Paul's wrath.

Sophie blinked a few times as she looked the Lahote wolf in the eyes, his eyes dark whilst hers glowed bright purple... The wind blew through her hair as they glared at each other, the other shapeshifters unable to do anything.

When it went on for a second too long, Embry took a step forwards, moving to intervene but Sam's arm on his chest stopped him in his tracks.

"Back down, princess!" Paul snarled in his mind and Sophie didn't move, she didn't speak, she didn't even blink but the sound of Bella's voice caused her to falter, the purple in her eyes flickering back to green.

"Run, Jacob!" Bella grabbed onto Sophie's sleeve, pulling her away from Paul and towards the cabin. Sophie's eyes transformed back to their natural colour as she looked over at Jacob, who jumped over the porch railing, speeding as fast as he could towards Paul, "No, run away!" Bella yelled, confused as to why Jacob was running towards the threat instead of away from it.

But, before she could speak any further, to yell anything else, she was pulled down to the ground by Sophie as Jacob jumped over them, shifting into his wolfโ€”form midair. Sophie shielded Bella from the sight of the two wolves growling and snarling at each other, snapping their jaws and saliva flying everywhere.

"Gross." Sophie grimaced, her eyes fixed on a huge pile of saliva stuck to a tree nearby and Bella finally looked up, her eyes wide towards the two massive wolves. She couldn't believe her eyes.

"Whatโ€” Whyโ€” Iโ€”" Bella stuttered, her breathing heavy with fear, unable to look away from the unrealistic sight. Sophie watched as well, slowly pushing herself to her feet and she held her hand out for Bella to take, kindly helping her up as well.

"You had a vampire boyfriend, you seriously cannot be shocked by this." She told Bella, finding it hard to concentrate with all of the yelling in her head between Jacob and Paul.

"You're really gonna protect a leechโ€”lover?" Paul screamed, his temper at its highest level.

"I'm not protecting her, I'm protecting Soph!" Jacob lunged forwards, nipping some of Paul's fur, the two jumping at each other as they yelled profanities.

"You really think I was gonna hurt her? She's an imprint, we can't hurt them!" Paul yelled back, snapping his jaws as well and Sophie just watched from afar, locking eyes with Embry momentarily, who looked just as shocked.

"Knowing you and your temper, I wouldn't put it past you to break the law!" Jacob snapped, snarling with rage.

"Oh, you took it too far with that one!" And with those last words, the wolves collided with a deafening sound, the ground rumbling as they rolled backwards into Billy's fishing boat, causing it to break in half. They fell back into the forest, disappearing through the trees but the loud thudding echoing throughout the woods told them all they needed to know.

"Soph!" Embry rushed forwards, wrapping his arms around his bestโ€”friend with an amused look on his face whilst Bella stared, wideโ€”eyed towards the opening in the woods where Paul and Jake had tumbled through.

"Paul has anger issues." Sophie smiled in the slightest as they pulled away, rolling her eyes with a playful demeanour and Jared approached, grinning from earโ€”toโ€”ear.

"We all do, clearly some more than others." Jared inputted, standing on the other side of Bella, who seemed to be in a shocked daze, a daydream of nerves.

"Hey, take the girls back to Emily's place." Sam ordered Jared and Embry, who both nodded from afar and the group watched as Sam jogged off into the forest to help Paul and Jacob.

"Guess the wolf's out of the bag." Embry spoke, wrapping his arm around Sophie's shoulders, pulling her towards Bella's car.

"Emily?" Bella finally snapped out of her shock, looking over at Sophie for answers as the group of four approached the beaten up Chevrolet.

"She's Sam's Fiancรฉe, I've only met her once but she makes the best cappuccinos." Sophie gushed, snuggling into Embry's side for warmth and Bella nodded, her eyes still wide... it was clear it'd take a while for her to get over the whole wolf situation.

Once they reached the truck, Sophie held her hand out towards Bella with a warm smile, warmer than usual whilst Jared and Embry jumped into the cargo bed with ease.

"I can drive, if you want? I can tell you're a little shaken up." She offered, the two stood by the driver's side of the truck and Bella nodded, brushing a strand of her hair behind her ear awkwardly.

"Yโ€”yeah, please." Bella placed her car keys in Sophie's hand and the younger girl smiled even wider before climbing into the driver's side, closing the door behind her.

"Hold on, boys!" Sophie called out to the two in the back once Bella had her seatbelt on and she turned the engine on with a small amount of struggle, the car rolling out of the pebbled driveway.

EMBRY AND JARED HOWLED AS SHE PARKED THE TRUCK, the group โ€” minus Bella โ€” climbing out of the vehicle. Embry flung his arm around Sophie's shoulders as they approached the house, none of them noticing Bella's absence until the girl rolled down her window, calling out to them, "Hey, I think we should go back and see if Jacob's okay."

"I hope Paul sinks some teeth in him. Serves him right." Jared spoke without sparing a glance back at Bella whilst Sophie admired Emily's cabin, how beautifully it was decorated with plants and flowers. It was so cozy and homey, she could only wish she lived somewhere like this when she moved out.

"No way, he was protecting Soph. I'm on his side." Embry shoved Jared's shoulder lightly, causing the other boy to laugh a little, nodding in agreement.

"Oh, yeah! Fair point." Jared responded lightheartedly as they approached the cabin and Sophie spun around under Embry's arm, waving her arm towards herself, gesturing for Bella to follow them.

"Come on, Bella! Jacob'll be fine!" Sophie reassured with a wide smile whilst Jacob and Embry entered, droning on about how Paul wasn't even gonna scratch Jacob.

Bella reluctantly climbed out of her truck, the squeaking noise of the door sending a sharp pain to the back of Sophie's mind but she quickly brushed it off, watching Bella trudge her way over.

Once she reached the younger girl, they slowly walked sideโ€”byโ€”side, "By the way, about Emily, she has a scar on the side of her face. Try not to stare, you don't want to offend anyone... especially Sam. He also has a temper, believe it or not." Sophie rolled her eyes playfully at her words and Bella nodded, her brows furrowing for just a moment, unsure of why she'd stare.

But, as soon as they entered, as soon as the young woman in the kitchen spun around with a tray of blueberry muffins in her hands, Bella finally understood. Emily's scar reached from her jaw to her hairline, it was extremely noticeable but she didn't pay attention to it, instead she smiled back at the woman.

"Sophie!" Emily greeted with a grin after placing the tray on the table for the two shapeshifters, who had their feet up on the chairs like animals. The oldest woman rushed over, immediately throwing her arms around Sophie. The two had only met twice, but that was all it took for them to be closer than ever.

"Emily, I missed you." Sophie wrapped her arms around the woman's shoulders momentarily before she pulled away, Emily's eyes trailing over to Bella, who stood to the side awkwardly.

"Who's this?" The Young woman furrowed her brows, but her expression was still as friendly as possible.

"Bella Swan. Who else?" Jared responded, his tone playful but Embry smacked his arm nonetheless, unappreciative of the cheek the older boy had.

Emily smirked, humming with amusement, "So, you're the vampire girl."

Bella raised her brows, slightly taken aback but she smiled in the slightest, glancing over at Sophie, who strolled over to the table, shoving Embry's feet from one of the chairs like a mother before sitting down, "So, you're the wolf girl."

"Guess so." Emily grinned, nodding with a mere roll of her eyes, "Well, I'm engaged to one." Emily walked over to the table just as Jared reached for a muffin, grabbing his arm, "Save some for you brothers. And ladies first. Muffin?" Emily looked towards Bella and Sophie.

"You don't have to ask me twice." Sophie grinned softly up at the woman, who smiled back in return with just as much joy, watching as the younger girl happily grabbed a muffin from the tray, taking a bite into it, "Yum!" She practically melted into the chair she was sat in due to the warmness of the muffin, it felt like she was being wrapped in a hug.

"Can I have one now?" Jared groaned, his stomach rumbling and Emily chuckled, looking over at Bella walking further into the room.

"Bella? You want one?" Emily offered.

"No, thanks. I'm fine." Bella waved her off with a smile, crossing her arms over her chest as she watched Jared quickly grab a muffin, taking an eager bite out of the sweet treat.

"Anyway, leave it to Jacob to find a way around Sam's gag order." Emily rolled her eyes, taking a step back, leaning against the counter behind them. Sophie looked over at her, watching as the slight breeze blew through the older woman's pin straight black hair.

"He didn't say anything to me." Bella defended, her foot tapping against the creaky wooden floorboards.

"That's a wolf thing. Alpha's orders get obeyed whether we want them to or not." Embry explained, holding his muffin in the air with a smirk.

"You told me." Sophie looked over at Embry as she took a bite out of her muffin, her legs crossed under the table.

"Yeah, but you're a witch. It's different." Embry shrugged as if it was the simplest thing in the world but it wasn't to Sophie, in fact, it had to be the worst thing that'd ever happened to her. She hated it, she'd wake up throughout the night more often than before,ย  her senses were heightened just a tad, her powers took so much out of her to control and it was just one more secret she had to keep from everyone she loved.

Sophie didn't respond, instead she just nodded and looked down to her hands, silently nibbling on her muffin as her mind filled with unwanted thoughts.

"And check it out. We can hear each other's thoughts, even Soph. Isn't that cool?" Embry wiggled his brows towards Bella, who sent him a shocked look, causing his smile to drop with realisation, "Oh, shit. I told her too much, didn't I?"

"You did, just shut up already! These are trade secrets. This chick runs with vampires." Jared rolled his eyes, shaking his head with disbelief and Bella scoffed lightly, loads of topics running through her brain at once. Sophie was a witch? And she knew?

"You can't really run with vampires." Bella responded, taking the information she'd just received well and Emily giggled, pushing Jared's head lightly, "'Cause they're fast."

"Yeah? Well, we're faster. Freaked out yet?" Jared raised a brow whilst Embry furrowed one, the two sending Bella weird looks and she smiled a little, shaking her head.

"You're not the first monsters I've met." Her words caused Sophie to look up from her muffin, both of her brows knitted together.

"Hey, they aren'tโ€”" Before she could finish her sentence, she was cut off.

"Jake's right. You're good with weird." Sam commented as he walked in, making a beeline for his fiancรฉe, "Hey." He muttered quietly to Emily, placing his hands on her hips in order to pull her closer to him and they kissed... somehow more passionately than Sophie's parents. He began to press kisses all over her face, causing Emily to giggle and Sophie smiled at the sight, her heart warming just a tad for the lovey dovey couple.

Jacob and Paul entered the room with grins on their faces, Paul dressed in just a pair of cutโ€”off shorts and trainers whilst Jacob was fully dressed in a shirt, jeans and his own trainers.

Paul walked over with a smug grin, sitting down in between Sophie and Jared and he grabbed a muffin before looking over at her, "No hard feelings?"

"Not at all." Sophie sent him a small smile and for whatever reason, Paul's stomach twisted with a sense of calm, a sense of peace and a sense of relief. He blinked a few times and quickly averted his gaze but he smiled nonetheless, biting a huge chunk out of his muffin.

Emily rushed over, outstretched her hands towards Sophie, gesturing for the younger girl to grab onto them, "I need to talk to you immediately!" Emily exclaimed enthusiastically, practically jumping up and down on the spot and the corners of the teen's lips upturned as she placed her halfโ€”eaten muffin down, latching onto her hands.

Just as Emily pulled her up onto her feet, Jacob took a step towards them, clearing his throat, "Actually, I need to talk to you, too." Sophie looked over at him, noticing the glint of hope glossing over dark eyes and she felt conflicted... but only for a moment.

"Sorry, can it wait?" She raised a brow, a hint of a smile on her lips and he couldn't help but smiled back in return, her kindness and warmth shining through him like the sun itself.

"Yeah, yeah, it can." Jacob waved her off and watched as Emily giggled, pulling the St. James girl out of the kitchen and into the hallway towards her bedroom.

Emily dragged Sophie into a bedroom and closed the door behind them, a huge grin on her face as she pulled the sixteenโ€”yearโ€”old onto the bed, "Tell me everything!"

"About what?" Sophie leaned forwards a little, her brows knitted together in confusion but she knew exactly what Emily was referring to.

"You're a witch, isn't that exciting?" Emily gushed, seemingly enthusiastic about the news whilst Sophie's smile dropped.

"Exciting isn't exactly the word I'd use." She looked away from the woman to her left, her eyes fixated on the worn wooden floorboards and her hand fiddled with the blanket draped over the bed, it was clear she was feeling all sorts of negative emotions in that moment.

"What do you mean? Can't you, like, move things with your mind and stuff?" Emily questioned, becoming rather annoying but Sophie was never the one to tell her that to her face, rather the one to stay quiet and deal with it.

"Well, I haven't really experimented..." Sophie looked up from the floor to Emily, whose brows were furrowed.

"Why? I'd be so excited to test out my powers if I was a witch! Hey, how about I ask Sam to train with you? Or... maybe I could ask Jacob?" At her last question, Sophie's heart went cold, her whole body paused, all of her thoughts came to a halt and she turned, sudden irritation evident on her face but Emily was facing away from her, oblivious to her effects on the teenager, "Sam told me he imprinted on you andโ€”"

"No." Was all Sophie responded with, shaking her head and Emily looked over, tilting her head once she noticed how annoyed Sophie looked, a complete contrast to the friendly demeanour the girl usually upheld.

"Oh, okay. I just thought that you'd want to get to know him better because you're his imโ€”" With that, Sophie's eyes shined a bright purple, overwhelmed with emotions and Emily gasped at the sight, the distraction causing Sophie's eyes to return to their natural green colour.

"I'm sorry..." Sophie muttered quickly once she'd calmed down, noticing the concerned look on Emily's face and she immediately stood from the bed, rushing out of the room.

"Sophie!" Emily called out after her... but she was already gone.

Sophie wrapped her arms around herself, storming out of the hallway. Embry, Jared, Paul and Sam were in the backyard, playing basketball, laughing loudly and she paused, her eyes trailing down the hallway and through the wide open doors. A hint of a smile appeared upon her lips at the sight of the carefree look on Embry's face, he seemed happier than ever to have finally found his family.

She turned to the other end of the room, her eyes spotting the tray of muffins still sat on the table, a few left and she swiftly rushed over, grabbing one before making her way out of the cabin.

The sun was setting, shining down onto the side of her face as she walked out of the front yard towards the woods, noticing Bella's truck had gone. She shrugged, knowing better than to believe Bella would've ever waited for her.

The brunette let out a sigh, preparing herself for the long walk ahead... at least she had a snack?
