๐ฒ เฃชโโก๐ SHE STORMED TOWARDS THE BLACK HOUSEHOLD, her eyes narrowed with anger. It was raining, her hair soaked, her coat drenched, but she couldn't care less, her irritation taking over every thought she ever had. Her soaked through Vans slapped onto the porch steps and she lifted her hand, slapping the wooden door aggressively.
After a moment or two, she slapped the door again, only for it to be opened just as she pulled her hand away, Jacob's entire form... shirtless, stood in the doorway with an apple in his hand, "Soph?" He raised a thick brow in confusion, quickly noticing how upset she was, "Woah, what's wrong?"
"Seriously?" Sophie narrowed her eyes at him, blowing some of her wet hair away from her mouth and he put his hands up in surrender, "If I could slap you right now, I would but I wouldn't like to end up in a jail cell for abuse to a dog!" Sophie snapped, and Jake tried to hid the smile of amusement on his lips, finding her insult to be rather hilarious.
"I'd never call the cops on you." Jacob admitted, but when he noticed her fists clenching by her darkโblue jeans clad thighs, he quickly took a step back, "That doesn't mean I want you to slap me, though."
"Did you tell Bella to play me along just so I would forgive you?" The rain dropped heavily onto the top of her head, her outfit drenched, her hair sticking to her face, her entire body shivering in the cold. She didn't want to stand there in the rain any longer, she just wanted to get to the bottom of her problem and go home.
Jacob didn't answer for a moment, hesitating on whether he should tell the truth or not, but he knew about her ability to know when he was lying, "Yeah, I need you to know I'm sorry." He stepped aside in hopes she'd come inside but there was no surprise when she stayed still, anger evident on her lips.
"Okay, tell me you're sorry to my face, show me you're sorry, don't hide behind Bella and trick me. Lure me in like some sort of deer." She scrunched up her face, her eyes watering for what felt like the thousandth time that week alone.
"I know, I know. I didn't pick the best way to do it." He glanced down at his shoes guiltily, knowing he was completely in the wrong and she shook her head in disbelief, spinning around to make her way off of the porch. He hesitated, unsure of how to go about anything. Instead of running after her, a gesture that would show how much he cared, how much he actually meant his apologies, he stood in the doorway, watching her storm towards the pathway, heading to Embry's house.
At the Call household, Sophie sniffled, waiting at the door with her arms wrapped around herself until the door opened, revealing Embry's mother with a sad look on her own face, "Oh, Soph, honey. Come in." She waved her inside and rushed into the living room to grab a towel, wrapping it around the girl, "Sweetheart, just stay here, I'll get Embry."
The sound of faint mumbling could be heard in the living room, she wasn't sure what was happening but she wasn't about to question it, too worried about catching a cold, which she definitely was going to catch. Embry wearily moved past this mother, who entered the living room again, disappearing behind the wall.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Embry whispered, immediately wrapping his arms around her as she sobbed into his shoulder, her emotions overwhelming her.
"I'm sorry if I'm interrupting something, I can go." She offered and he shook his head, dismissing her offer with a wave of his hand and a scrunch of his brows.
"No, no. My dad died." He shrugged, not too upset about it considering he didn't even know his father but Sophie's eyes went wide nonetheless, her hand reaching up to rub his shoulder, "It's fine, come in." He guided her into the living room with his arm over her shoulders, and in the room was sat two men in suits, folders in front of them along with a woman on the arm chair, sniffling into a tissue.
They all looked over at her when the bestโfriends entered the room and she forced a smile in attempt to hide her sadness, though it was still evident by her red eyes and puffy cheeks. Embry didn't say anything, knowing he didn't owe any of them an explanation as he continued to lead her into the kitchen, helping her sit down at the small table by the refrigerator.
"I'm really sorry if I'm being a problem." She apologised again, feeling super selfโconscious and selfish but he dismissed her again, sitting down on the other chair in front of her. He grabbed her hands, a stern yet gentle look on his tanned face.
"Soph, trust me, you'll never be a problem. You want a hot chocolate?" He stood up before she even answered, knowing she'd say yes and when he glanced back at her, noticing the small smile on her lips, he grinned, pulling two mugs out of one of the cupboards.
He strolled over to the fridge and grabbed the milk, she watched him as he prepared their drinks, the corners of her lips upturned slightly, "How did he die?" She asked, knowing he wouldn't mind answering.
"Car crash โ drunk driving. He's lucky he didn't hurt anyone or I would've killed him twice over." Embry grumbled under his breath, and she glanced over at the doorway where Ms Call stood, a sympathetic smile on her lips.
"You're the only one on your father's will." She told her son, whose eyebrows furrowed in confusion, surprise evident on his face.
"Uh..." He glanced over at Sophie, the two exchanging confused looks before he looked back over at his mother, who shrugged, unsure of what to do nor say, "Cool." He chuckled, and she smiled before exiting the doorway, "That man's an idiot, I swear." He shook his head, stirring the hot chocolates and once he was finished, he brought them over to her.
"Thank you." She smiled as she sipped on the milky chocolate, instantly warming up after she swallowed.
A father dying would affect most people, even those who hardly even knew their father but for Embry and his mother, it was a breath of fresh air. It sounded cruel, but Sophie understood and never questioned it.
Eventually, the unnamed woman that was sniffling in the living room entered the kitchen, an innocent smile on her lips, "Hello." She mumbled and Embry discreetly rolled his eyes, Sophie knew just from his expression that she wasn't supposed to like her.
"Cynthia, this is Sophie." Embry introduced her with gritted teeth and Sophie touched his trainer with her boot in hopes of calming him down, at least a little. Cynthia rushed over, placing her hand out for the younger girl to shake, which she did, the two maintaining eye contact for a split second.
"It's nice to meet you." Sophie smiled, being as civil as possible whilst the woman only smirked, turning to put the kettle to a boil.
"You Embry's girlfriend?" Cynthia might as well have whispered, her voice so hushed Sophie could hardly hear her, but she responded nonetheless.
"He wishes." She teased her best--friend, who rolled his eyes with a playful smile on his lips, "We're just close friends."
"I've heard that before." Cynthia muttered under her breath, almost in a rude tone and Sophie glanced at Embry, her eyebrows slightly furrowed in confusion. In reply, he mouthed the words, 'here we go', "You know, people who cheat deserve to die... Or just suffer for the rest of their life." She turned her back to them, and Sophie looked over at Embry again, quickly noticing his angry expression with wide eyes.
"Embry?" No response.
"Like, if you're not a bitch, your baby daddy won't kill himselfโ" The smash of a mug startled Cynthia, cutting her off and she spun around with raised hands, watching wideโeyed as Embry stormed out of the room, huffing with vexation.
Sophie paused for just a moment, her eyes also widened, her eyebrows raised and her mouth agape, she'd never seen Embry so aggressive before. She jumped up, the towel draped across her shoulders dropping to the floor as she chased after her bestโfriend.
He'd ran outside and into the woods nearby, and she followed, calling out his name, "Embry!" She yelled, until she heard his voice... Violent, angry, irritated, deep.
"Stay away from me, Soph. Please, just run." He begged, his chest heaving, his breaths heavy as he attempted to calm himself down but it was no use, he was incapable, "Go!"
"No!" She spun around in a circle, her eyes searching the trees as rain poured down onto her like she'd been splashed with an entire bucket of water.
There he was. She'd found him stood in a clearing way too close for her liking, his face scrunched up, clearly pissed and he looked up at her, it only lasted a moment before he jumped up into the air, transforming into something she convinced herself she was imagining.
Sophie St. James fell back onto the mud, her head hitting a tree but she couldn't care less, focused on the impossibly large wolf stood before her. She was frightened, she could've peed herself right there.
She pressed her lips together, squeezing her eyes shut to escape the nightmare she was enduring but when she heard a whimper and heavy footsteps approaching her, she opened her eyes again, the wolf much closer. The animal, standing at atleast ten feet hovered over her and she kept still, terrified to move even an inch.
"I hurt her..."A voice entered her mind, sounding familiar, almost like Embry and she looked down at her arm, quickly noticing the blood soaking into her jacket.
"Okay, what the flying fuck is happening?" Sophie snapped, clutching her arm in pain but the wolf jumped back in fear, causing her eyes to widen again. The brunette glanced back down at her arm, noticing a purple mist seeping from beneath her hand and she scrunched her brows, shaking her head in disbelief.
"How is she doing that?" The voice enterred her mind again and she looked back over at the wolf, tilting her head in confusion.
"If that's you speaking, I have no idea." Sophie muttered, knowing she sounded insane, mentally cursing herself for indulging in such ridiculousness.
"You can hear me?" The wolf took a step forwards, lowering it's snout towards her and she moved backwards, pushing herself against the tree.
"Don't move any closer." She warned and focused back on her arm, beginning to remove her jacket but to her surprise, there was no evidence of any wounds, or scratches. There was nothing, only the remainder of blood on her jacket.
Everything that had happened in the last five minutes terrified her to no limit, she didn't know whether to cry or scream, or just end her life, all of the emotions layered on top of each other becoming too much for her.
The wolf suddenly backed up, hiding behind a rather wide tree, and she heard some shuffling, her eyes fixed on the tree until out emerged Embry.
She gasped in shock, directing her eyes away from his naked body, his hands covering his crotch and in that moment, she forgot all of her fear, all of the negative emotions and let out a loud laugh.
"So, this is great! I'm a werewolf, you're a witch and I need clothes." Embry stated, a small smile on his lips and Sophie couldn't help but shake her head in disbelief, her eyes slowly trailing back over to him.
"What a shitshow." She muttered and pulled her jacket off, pushing herself up off of the mud in the process. Embry stumbled towards her and she turned away as he tied the jacket around his waist, "Can you just tell me what's going on? I'm scared, Embry." She sighed, wrapping her arms around herself and he dragged a hand down the side of his face.
"I'll explain everything, just go home, okay? I'll come over tonight." He assured her, placing his hand on her shoulder and she just nodded before spinning around, heading out of the woods.
As much as she wanted to scream to the top of her lungs capability, she controlled herself and continued down the path, heading straight for her car parked on the path nearby Jacob's house, quickly noticing Bella's truck parked on the grass.
She rolled her eyes and climbed into her car, closing the door behind her.
Sophie composed herself, taking deep breaths for a shortโlived moment before, finally, she let out a scream that shook the trees, the type of scream that could telepathically transfer all of her emotions onto another. All of the pain. The confusion. The anger. The sadness. The exhaustion.
Everything.ย
