Final Level (part 2)

Y/n's POV:

It was ten minutes until midnight and my father had begun to doze on the sofa. On the contrary, my brother was focused on his phone, no longer interested in TV programs...I stayed in the kitchen, sitting in front of the work table with my mother. The dinner was good too and for a moment I didn't worry about anything.

《It's a shame it started raining so heavily, your father and me had been thinking about this family trip for a long time...》  Mom sighed as she glanced at the window behind me. It was trying too hard to be just a passing storm and the more I looked at it, the more the rain seemed to create a kind of barrier around our house.

As if no one could enter...or escape from there.

Maybe, I had become really paranoid after everything I had been through...by now, I was perfectly aware that it hadn't been a dream and the previous meeting with Michael had really happened.

I hugged my mother's shoulders.
《Don't worry mom, there will be other opportunities for that.》

《Did you like the gift? Your father insisted on doing that to you.》  She added then with a smile.

《It's perfect.》  The truth was that I didn't necessarily need something to be happy; most of my birthdays had been like this and I was able to spend my time with my friends too. But the thing I loved most was the car trips with my family.

《We'll definitely do it later.》  You have thought to yourself in a decisive way.

At that moment, I saw my brother got up from the sofa and put his phone in his pocket.

《...where are you going?》  Of course, it was a stupid question, but I didn't want to lose sight of anyone.

He looked at me questioningly and raised his index finger pointing upstairs, probably his bedroom.

《Mmm I was thinking of going out, since it's a beautiful day, you know...》  And then he took the stairs without realizing I hadn't laughed at his joke.

Soon, the storm got stronger until the sky brightened and there was a sudden thunder which made me jump to my feet.
Not even a second passed before all the lights in the house went out immediately.

《Damn, it didn't take this...》  I heard the voice of my father who woke up due to the loud noise.  《I'm going to turn on the generator. Wait a moment.》

But the emergency gen was in the basement downstairs and it would be very dark down there now...as for me, my phone was left in my room and so it was my mother who turned on the light with hers. I didn't hear anything upstairs anyway.

《This bad weather is killing us. It's really unbearable!》  My mother snorted, waving the light here and there.

In the meantime, I got around the table with the palm of my hand on the surface; there was very little light outside and was dark just like the night sky. Even though it didn't seem, I was tense and worried something else might happen, now that we were apart.

Me and my mother were standing up and motionless, so we could only hear the footsteps of my dad walking the stairs again.

《So? What happens?》  My mother asked and like me noticed the light was taking a long time to return.

《I don't know.》  He replied  《It's all right down there and the generator won't turn on unless there's an overload. It must have been something else.》

《Or someone.》  I thought suddenly. I was starting to dislike that situation.

《Where is your brother?》  Even though I didn't see him, I was sure he was looking in my direction.

《Uhm he's upstairs–》  But then, a strange rustle stopped me.

《H-have you heard it?》  I turned to my parents; my heart was pounding and was hoping it was just me who heard it.

《...it's just the leaves banging against the windows.》  My father pointed to the shadows emerging from behind the glass...I also heard them moving noisily due to the wind, but I was sure it wasn't what I had heard earlier.

But then, I heard it again and I couldn't be wrong. It was the same noise the soles of shoes made when they were wet, I knew it because mom had often scolded me for walking into the house in that way, especially after it had rained, when I was a child...now, there was definitely someone in the house and my concern grew when I thought my brother was upstairs alone.

I didn't care anymore and walked away from my parents...I could endure all that darkness to save my brother.

- - -

Although you hadn't heard any screams, you couldn't be sure of anything, and even the most peaceful silence could be a ruthless enemy. You knew it was him...Michael Myers could have gone out anywhere and hit at any time and you had to be ready at any cost.

Finally, you have reached the closed door of your brother's room and went abruptly inside.

《Hey, who told you to–》  The boy was speechless when he saw you walking around the room.  《You are weird today, what's wrong with you...? Only the light is gone...》

You closed the door and gestured to lower his voice.
《Have you heard or seen anything strange? I think there's someone in the house.》

The other looked at you puzzled and worried for a moment, because he had seen your shaky, sweaty face thanks to his phone flashlight.

《No, I haven't heard anything. Are you sure what you say?》  He looked around as if it were the first time he had seen his own room and noticed a detail...a draft of air was moving the curtains and he had perfectly remembered having closed the window a few hours before...something in the head said his sister was right.

《Where are mom and dad?》  He asked you in a serious tone.

《I left them in the kitchen. There's no electricity in the house.》  You ruled with a lump in your throat and decided it was time to go back to them.

《Let's go now and don't make any noise...》

You added just before lowering the handle. It was still really dark in the corridor, but still quiet; however, when you stepped out of the bedroom, you had the feeling there was something in front of you blocking your way...but you became certain too late, when you felt his breath touch your skin.

You wasted no time and tried to close the door quickly.

《W-what's up?!》  Your brother saw you opening and closing the door right after, as if you saw something that scared the hell out of you.

《Stay back!!》  You yelled at him while holding the door closed with your whole body.

But it wasn't enough and you were thrown at your brother. There, a tall, familiar silhouette appeared before you two and the young boy stayed shocked by that vision.

《W-who the hell is he?!》  Very soon, the terror took place on his face as he noticed the knife in one hand.

Michael was staring intently at him, as he always had with you, and it wasn't a good sign...whatever his intentions were you wouldn't be standing there and watching.

《Don't you dare approach my brother, Michael!!》  You jumped up and despite that the other continued to ignore you on purpose. Now, your younger brother was his target to kill and he wouldn't let it get away.

When he took a step, you grabbed his big arm ignoring your size difference.

《Run!!》

But your brother didn't move, as if he were petrified. There were a lot of things confusing him, like how you knew the name of that creepy-looking and dangerous guy...but when Michael stepped forward in his direction again, he grabbed him by the collar of the sweatshirt and lifted him easily into the air.

《No, let him go!!》  You continued to squeeze his other arm with all your weight, to prevent him from using the knife.

Although you were succeeding in your intent, Michael didn't turn around even once, he was too concentrated to stare at that face, so similar to you but that he would have liked to disfigure with pleasure...
All that fuss should have caught your parents' attention, but then why weren't they there yet??

Fear suddenly took over and you lost your grip on his arm causing you to fall to the floor. Your brother was kicking and punching his attacker but unable to move him...Michael tilted his head to the side in seeing him so terrified; he would have killed him there, right in front of your eyes.

But something made him lean forward sharply; a hard blow behind his head made Michael lose his grip on your brother.
You looked for contact with the boy after you hit the other one with a baseball bat...your mother couldn't bear to find it in the closet among his clothes, but this time was useful that it was nearby.

You were still there, watching the killer on his knees, until you thought about your brother and how to get him out of there safe and sound...so, you left Michael behind and ran to your parents.

Mom! Dad!》  You screamed out loud. But when you went to the kitchen they weren't there.

You kept calling them, but they didn't answer. A bad feeling ran through your mind and you tried to ignore it anyway...you didn't want to believe Michael had hurt them.
But your fear became real when you saw something on the floor...you were sure it was blood.

Michael must have attacked and then hid them somewhere, but you hoped they were alive.

《W-who the hell was that psycho and how did you know his name?!》  Your brother yelled as if that were the only thing worried him.

It was obvious he had noticed that and you couldn't blame him; after all, if you hadn't gotten close to Michael, probably all of this wouldn't have happened, you thought guilty.

It's a complicated story and I have my faults for that. I won't let him hurt you, trust me.》  You squeezed his shoulder and luckily he didn't have any injuries.

Your brother didn't answer, but he wanted to believe in your words and find his parents; he helped you with the search after you gave him the baseball bat...then, you went to the kitchen to find something suitable for a fight. A kitchen knife, much smaller than Myers' but still very sharp, was your choice.

With the right observation, you saw that the traces of blood continued all the way to the basement door.
You opened it. There was no noise down there and you feared it was a trap.

《I'm going. Whatever you hear, stay here, okay?》  You didn't want him to be in danger and gathered all the energy you need to get in there.

《What if he is there...》  Your younger brother was still hesitant, but he couldn't let you go like that, it was a suicide! But you weren't afraid, you had already experienced the pain of death so many times. The only difference now was that you only had one chance to succeed.

With the knife in your hands, you came down the stairs with the only faint light coming from your shoulders...you were sure someone was waiting for you, immersed in the darkness.

The place was full of junk and things that had been there for years. You weren't particularly attached to that place, and your mother used the basement simply as a laundry room...but now, it seemed like the scariest place in the house.
You advanced slowly looking for a support against the wall so as not to trip over yourself.

Something moved immediately turning you into the dark, followed by cries of pain and fear, as if they couldn't talk.
You quickly searched for the flashlight just next to the ladder and luckily it was there. When you turned it on, you saw your parents on the ground and covered in blood.

《Mum!! Dad!!》  You reached them and knelt in front of them. They had cuts all over, but luckily they were superficial, probably because they had tried to defend themselves.

《C-can you get up? We need to get out of here!》  You raised your voice while trying to help your mother, after you saw your father get up by himself, albeit with some difficulty.

《...why did you go down here, there's a psycho in the house! You and your brother must leave immediately!》  Your father didn't imagine that you would have gone this far to save them, just as he couldn't imagine that you had been in the realm of a supernatural entity, with survivors, killers and hooks...although you were out of it, it was as if it never really ended.

《Not without you two.》  You positioned yourself among them to help them climb the stairs; your mother was squeezing from the pain.  《Let's go, he could be coming at any moment...》

But suddenly, something stopped your walk pulling you by the hair. You yelled at your parents to escape, before being knocked to the ground.
When another person grabbed your mother's neck, your father did everything to save her until he was stabbed in the stomach.

《Nooo!!!》

Your father slid to the ground with his back against the wall, while your mother was still at the mercy of the killer...but before he could hit her, you threw yourself on Michael by raising the knife in midair.

《Stay away from her! It's me you want, Michael!!》  You were going to hit him with all your might, but before you could do it he grabbed your wrist firmly.

Finally, he looked you straight in the eye.

《...please spare my family, they have nothing to do with all this!!》  You were about to beg him, but you hadn't lost your grip on the handle of the knife...you wouldn't have given up so easily.

Y/n's POV:

As if by a miracle, Michael let go of my mother who started coughing repeatedly. However, he didn't let go of my hand forcing me to hold it up to his head. The knife trembled above me and prayed that I could hold it tight.

I turned to my parents; my mother was close to my father and tried to help him, but she couldn't put him on his feet and my anxiety increased. It was all my fault, I should have expected Michael to be there and I did nothing to stop him.

If they were still there, they would certainly be dead. I needed help, but I couldn't put my brother in danger.
I looked at the imposing figure of the man in front of me, who had remained motionless.

I tried to get my wrist out of his grip but the more I tried to free myself, the more he kept squeezing me, until it became painful.

《L-let me go...》  I shouldn't have said that, as Michael yanked hard and pointed the knife at me, this time. Then, his cold and white mask brushed my right cheek.

Only mine.

A shiver ran down my spine as I heard those words. He, a ruthless killer, had come back for me, but at the cost of killing my family...and I couldn't accept it.
Soon, my simple knife fell to the ground and Michael took advantage of it to attack me...to avoid him, I walked backwards, but because of that I ended up tripping over something; however, he grabbed me at the waist and my abdomen ended up being pressed against his.

You can't run away from me.》

He was right, I couldn't run away from him...the only thing I could do was protect my family.

At that moment, Michael was hit hard in the back.

《Get away from there, Y/n!!》  My father yelled at me. Suddenly, I was free again and so I did as he told and followed him up the stairs, together with my mother.

《Hurry up and close this fucking door!》  My brother screamed that and as soon as I saw him a glimmer of hope lit up inside me.

We were so close to leaving that nightmare behind, but I had to know it couldn't end that easily...Michael Myers had caught up with us quickly and with a quick snap he grabbed my mother by her foot and dropped her on the last step of the ladder.

We had to do something before he dragged her down again! I didn't have time to think, so I decided to react accordingly. I decided to throw myself at Michael...not only he let go of my mother, but fell backwards and me along with him, of course.

《Y/N!!!》

I heard their voices calling me. I got up slowly, but with a pain in my ankle and I thought it was sprained.

《Wait, I come to get you!》  When my dad said that, I tried to stop him.

《D-don't do it!》  I supported myself on the wooden railing and looked at the three silhouettes above me.  《You have to leave without me...》

It was obvious that my answer would have shocked them. My father was injured and couldn't risk killing himself because of it.

Although wrong, I had made my decision.
《...all of this happened because of me. You have to go NOW, or I won't be able to stop him anymore!!》

I could escape, the exit was a few steps away from me...but instead of going through it, I locked the door.

I could hear their voices on the other side begging me to open, and for a moment I smiled when they told me I was a crazy idiot. Well, I was actually, they would never have imagined that I could do such a thing, but it was the only way to save their lives.

I found myself alone and without weapons...and immersed in total darkness, just like in the old days.

《We're alone now, Michael.》  I said going back to where I had left him on the floor.  《I'm sorry, but I couldn't let you hurt the people I love.》

I could hear his breathing inches from me, but just I couldn't figure out where he was exactly. He was good at that, after all.
I didn't know where the flashlight or the knife had gone, I could only rely on my senses; I stretched out my arms in front of me and began to move as if I were doing a treasure hunt.

I found him at the bottom of the basement. My fingers felt the clothes above his chest and he was so still he didn't even feel real.

《Michael...》  I added in a weak voice  《Can you hear me?》

He advanced towards me; with my finger, I felt the edge of his mask above his collarbones, but I did nothing to remove it...I wouldn't have been able to see his face anyway.

I wanted to love him...but not after what he had tried to do. If I let him go, he would have hunted my family till the end.

《Why...why are you doing all this...》  I thought with a pain in my chest.

- - -

As if he had listened to you, Michael wrapped his huge arms around you, as if nothing had ever happened.
You tried to rebel against his strength, but it was impossible.

《You are crazy. How could you do this to me...》  You hit him with little force on his chest; in a short time, you could see better in the dark, especially his unmistakable mask. Therefore, he could see the glint in your eyes because of the tears.

Anyway, he didn't understand your state of mind. He had come back for you, until he saw how happy you were with those other people and realized they were taking you away from him...of course, he felt something different thanks to you, but he would never stop killing. It was part of his nature.

Except when you were there, in his arms. You could finally be his.

《Please stop hurting people, Michael...》  You looked up at him holding your hands on him  《Stay with me, live like a normal person and leave the life of the killer forever! Maybe you don't know but...I'm waiting a baby from you.》

Your voice was shaking, but you were honest when you said that. You really wanted Michael to become a guy like everyone else and especially him to be with you. The cold skin of his palm made contact with your warm, moist cheek.
He tilted his head and wiped a tear with his thumb...it was too late for that now, Michael Myers couldn't be like that, he couldn't imagine a "normal" life as it was completely unknown to him.

《...》

I want only you.

You missed his voice and every time you found it beautiful. He still had the knife in his hands, albeit lowered. He would never have used it on you. And neither you too.

Anyway, the door kept being slammed as well as the shouting behind it, your family was trying to open the door; Michael seemed bothered by those noises and walked away to reach the door, but you stopped him from behind.

《Please, don't do anything bad...if you really care about me, get out of here before the police get here!》

You said wrapping your arms around his waist and Michael grabbed your forearm. You knew what that meant but you shook your head.
Michael's breaths became more intense; he couldn't accept it, or you went away with him or he would kill everyone just to force you to do it. These were the only two alternatives.

However, he had managed to go upstairs and with a couple of blows he destroyed the door of the basement, under the petrified eyes of the others.

He grabbed the first one that came within range and it was your father.

《Stop Michael!!》  But he didn't listen to you; this time, he wouldn't stop until he got what he wanted and stabbed your father again.

You tried to disarm him, but the knife got stuck in your father's stomach and when he took it back blood splatters came out with it; then, Michael threw his body away...you couldn't believe your eyes and your mother's desperate screams made you understand that stab had been fatal.

《Die damn psycho!!》  Your younger brother attacked him from the side with the baseball bat, but Michael managed to stop it before could touch him; he was too strong for him and your brother lost his grip on the bat.

In order not to be interfered with, Michael pushed you away against the wall...you put your hands on your face when you heard the bat hit something and then a heavy thud...when you opened your eyes, you clearly saw your brother lying face down.

It wasn't really happening. Michael was exterminating your family and you didn't know how to stop him.
Blood was spilled on the floor and none of them moved; Michael advanced towards your mother who stepped back in fear and throwing whatever she had at hand.

《R-run away Y/n!》  Your mother yelled looking in your direction. You couldn't let him kill her too.

You ran away, but to her and Michael...before he could inflict a lunge from above, you got in the way.

Your mother's scream and the cold of the blade were the last thing you heard, before you collapsed to the ground.
