It wasn't long before you and your husband returned to Komugi Island. It was mainly his choice, but you fully shared it as you needed to get away from Big Mom and the others; once there, Daigo was very excited when he saw the city for the first time, especially his new home...he had never imagined his father's house was a giant doughnut tower.
You were happy to see him smile like that and to be there alone with them.
Anyway, to prevent Katakuri from leaving Sweet City, Linlin attempted to anticipate the coronation ceremony of the new king of Tottoland, but without success; nothing had been arranged and the sweets that had been prepared had all been eaten by herself during her daily banquets and Big Mom could do nothing but blame her insatiable stomach.
That was fine with him, Katakuri had no intention of taking his mother's place immediately...he was back on his island to think about his private affairs, both as a flour minister and as a husband and father.
But those weren't the only surprises. Although your happiness was already fully satisfied, there was still space for another little heart and, months later, you gave birth to another baby; luckily, the second birth was quicker and less painful than the first one and Katakuri had been beside you the whole time.
When they came to visit you, your closest sisters-in-law screamed for joy when they saw that it was a sissy...just as you thought at the beginning, you decided to call her Yui.
This time, Katakuri was unexpectedly protective of that tiny beauty; inside his palm, he looked at her as if he knew he would have never given his daughter to anyone and you looked at him with perplexity...
Daigo was also thrilled to have a little sister at first, until he noticed that most of the attention was being given to her and that made him really jealous. However, you never gave him any reason to be because you loved both of them.
As you imagined, Daigo and Yui started playing together and running around the island in total freedom, or almost...one day, you got mad when he came home with Yui in tears and with a swollen, sore knee.
《Pfft, it's not my fault that she can't hold my hand and keep up with me...you are a dwarf!》 Daigo snorted while he was making fun of the sister, who didn't hesitate to fight back.
《I-I'm not a dwarf and you are not taller than me that much!》 But her attention returned to her leg 《Mommyyy my knee hurts so much!!!》
Then, she wiped the red eyes when you disinfected and covered her small cut with a band-aid.
《All done honey, and be careful next time, okay?》 You said it with a smile and the little girl smiled back.
She was four years old, but she was snappy like no other kid and that reminded you of yourself at her same age...during that, Daigo rolled his eyes; unlike her, he had stopped being so clingy with you.
You often remembered how beautiful your children were, when you were alone with your husband; you told him what they did during the day only when you two were in your bedroom.
Katakuri listened to you most of the time and you kept talking even when he stroked or snuggled you next to him...sometimes, you thought you were boring him, but when you asked him, he didn't disappoint you.
《Mpf, I like listening to you, Y/n. Your voice is the only one that never tires me.》
Of course, you couldn't help but be happy with that and so you gave him a gentle kiss on the lips. There was always a grunt coming out of him when you did and you were sure it was a way to warn you not to overdo it. Even if he was lying on the bed with you, he wasn't tired at all and he wouldn't have any problem warming the bed with you anytime...well, if you didn't fall asleep so suddenly in his arms.
Katakuri understood you were tired and that the role of a mother could be challenging. Moreover, he was sure that you were completely different from his mother and certainly even better, but you couldn't do all this alone...he had to be there for you and his children too.
He pushed some hair away from your face with his big fingers and looked at you, slightly distracted by thoughts; you were so beautiful and sweet while you were resting on his bicep as if it were a comfortable pillow. Before Katakuri could close the eyes, he smiled as imagined how things in his life had changed drastically after he met you. In all his life, he had never expected an arranged marriage could fill him with satisfaction as it was happening at that moment...
And he couldn't help but be grateful for that.

For the umpteenth time, you sighed when you found yourself alone on that giant bed.
Katakuri was an early riser, as usual, but sometimes you wanted to be able to open your eyes and find him still there, with nothing to hide his relaxed but never really exhausted expression. Sometimes you thought if he really slept or just pretended to do that...
Anyway, after taking your time to wash and get ready, you went to call your kids in the next room and, to your surprise, you saw your son awake.
《Good morning honey, did you sleep well?》 You said closing the door softly so as not to ruin your daughter's no deeper sleep.
But the young boy seemed to be lost in his thoughts so that he could listen to you, until you were right in front of him.
《Hey, is there something wrong?》 You asked in a low voice and Daigo raised his pink eyes to you.
《I'm okay, mom.》 But his voice was too serious for your taste 《It's just...dad told me I'm ready for that today...》
You raised an eyebrow to understand what he meant. You hated when there was something you didn't know.
Until you came up with an idea. So, that was why Katakuri had woken up early, you thought, that day was definitely something important as all four of you had to go to Whole Cake.
But you still didn't understand what your son had to do with all this and Katakuri didn't warn you about anything.
Once Yui was awakened and prepared too, all three of you left the palace to be escorted to the port where your husband was waiting.
《Katakuri, what's going on?》 Apparently, there was nothing strange about his attitude, but there was something missing.
《Mama is waiting for us in the palace.》 And he added seriously 《Daigo has turned seven now. The time has come for him to eat his Devil Fruit.》
You widened your eyes, but then you weren't so surprised anymore, you knew very well this day would have come. Once your son acquired his new powers, he would have officially joined the Charlotte pirate crew, under the command of Big Mom...just the idea that pink witch could command him as she pleased made you go on a rampage, but there was no way to rebel, not if it wasn't Katakuri who did it first.
《...I see. Do you already know what kind of fruit it is?》 You asked turning in Daigo's direction.
《I just know it's a Paramecia type. Mama didn't want to tell me anything else.》 Then, Katakuri crossed his arms waiting to reach the city.
Why would she have to do that and what if it was something dangerous?? All you did was think about the consequences, for example that, once he had eaten the fruit, Daigo could no longer swim in the sea...in that moment, Yui sat down next to you and rested her rosy head on your arm.
Yes, you would have to wait for her turn, one day...but thinking about that now made you feel worse.
Even though he was busy giving orders to his men, Katakuri didn't ignore your troubled expression.
《Everything will be fine, Y/n.》
His voice always managed to make you feel better and you really wanted to believe his words, but it was really hard to do that without worrying about the rest...
Either way, you got the answer when your kids came face to face with Big Mom. The empress showed one of her terrifying smiles before turning exclusively to the eldest one.
《MMM, YOU HAVEN'T CHANGED MUCH SINCE WE LAST SAW EACH OTHER, ARE YOU EATING PROPERLY?? OTHERWISE YOU WON'T GROW AS BIG AS YOUR FATHER, MY DEAR NEPHEW!!》
Daigo was a normal kid, he could eat anything, not just sweet stuff, and quite fast too, thanks to his shark teeth...well, you were the mother and you wouldn't have listened to her even in a hundred years.
Your son just nodded, but he continued to stare at her fearlessly; you knew, his mind was lost elsewhere, it was since he got out of bed that he had been waiting for this moment. Apparently, Linlin could read that in his face and was more impatient than before.
《NOW, THE LONG AWAITED TIME HAS COME! BRING THE FRUIT HERE!!》
The giantess screamed and suddenly a couple of cookie soldiers appeared, along with a table and plate covered with a large cloche. Your heart was pounding at the idea of what might be under there.
You saw a round white fruit, composed of swirl patterns with a swirled stem on the top. At that moment, Katakuri advanced towards it to be able to take it in hand.
《IT'S THE IMPACT IMPACT FRUIT! IT ALLOWS THE USER TO ABSORB, OUTPUT, AND MULTIPLY THE FORCE OF ATTACKS. THIS WAY, YOU WILL BE THE STRONGEST ON THE BATTLEFIELD, MAMAMAMA!!》
《R-really? Can I really get that strong, granny?!》 Daigo's eyes sparkled with immense joy to hear that from his grandmother.
At this point, the passage within his crew was more than obvious.
A few seconds passed. When his father handed him the strange fruit, your son began to eat it, bitterly regretting having given a bite. The taste was terrible and although it wasn't necessary, Daigo was on the verge of eating it all, under the astonished eyes of adults.
He couldn't wait to show what he could do with those new powers, as soon as they awakened inside him...you remained next to him, happy of his enthusiasm but at the same time worried and certainly not for the Devil's Fruit. The real devil here was that monster of your mother-in-law.
Waiting was the only thing to do and within a few hours the fruit would have taken effect...
But the problem was that nothing happened.
One day.
Two days.
Three days passed since your son ate the fruit, but nothing had changed. You and Katakuri couldn't figure out why this was happening as Daigo became more and more impatient.
《The fruit rotted after he ate it. It's evident that it has surrendered its powers, but why are they not manifested in him??》 You asked by talking with your husband after you left Daigo and Yui in their room.
《There must be something blocking the process, but I still can't figure out what it is. This has never happened before.》 After that, Katakuri had spent his time researching his office, until his twin brothers came to help him out.
Meantime, Pudding and Brûlée stayed close to you and the children, but Daigo didn't want to know about it. He wanted to be alone and therefore he decided to leave the building, heading towards Hakuriki Town.
On the road, the kid hit anything with all his strength, hoping for something unexpected and even ordered some homeys to attack him, but he was just thrown to the ground, under the frightened eyes of the same ones.
Unfortunately, the news spread everywhere on the island and when the inhabitants saw him wandering around alone, they began to murmur behind him...only a group of boys, around his age, dared to stand in front of him blocking his step.
《Look at him, he's the one with no power. Pathetic!》 The one in front of everyone started.
《You are the dishonor of the Charlotte pirates!》 Another kid yelled.
《Katakuri-sama will get tired of having a useless son like you! You better get out of sight, we don't need someone like you, ahahahah!》
When the third added that, the group burst into laughter.
However, Daigo didn't react. He absolutely wanted to ignore their meanness, but something in him was definitely broken; now, he was angry and disappointed, but he didn't want to do anything blameful.
But suddenly, one of them threw a stone at him brushing his right cheek. That gesture struck him deeply and he looked at them with blank expression.
It wasn't his fault, after all. They shouldn't have treated him like that.
The people around had stood still, staring at the group of thugs and the minister's son on the other side, who now seemed to have fallen into some kind of confusion.
Soon, another stone was thrown at him and this time it would have seriously hit his face...
But it didn't happen.
Everyone gasped as Daigo's arm rose moments before the stone hit him blocking it inside his palm.
《...who are you to tell me who I am.》
His voice was unexpectedly calm, but threatening and that made the group of kids back off. Of course, he was the son of Charlotte Katakuri, no one was to treat him as if he were a weakling...and now he had to make them pay for it.
In that moment, Daigo repeated the movement that preceded the throwing of the stone.
The leader of the group was in his range, but no one could see the stone again when it was thrown by the boy with the cream hair.
The other child was instantly paralyzed. If there was one thing Katakuri had taught him, it was the importance of aiming to make the shot lethal. And accurate.
For this, Daigo hit his opponent's cap causing it to fall behind his head. Although nothing had happened to the boy, everyone noticed that he had wet his pants from fear.
Before continuing on his way, Daigo turned in their direction.
《I'm not like you. I'm better.》
No one had noticed it before, but that child was able to emanate an intense energy simply from his gaze and, for an instant, his eyes seemed different than usual.
When he got home, his little sister ran up to him to hug him.
《Eeeeh, where have you been, onii-chan?? Why didn't you take me with you?!》 Yui puffed out her cheeks and snorted against his thin chest.
《I'm sorry for not waiting for you.》
But who knows what would have happened if she had been there with him against those uncivilized boys...anyway, Daigo didn't think about it and smiled sweetly as he hugged his sister, ignoring the tingle on his cheek.
No one was to dare to do to his sister what was done to him and, from that day, he decided that things would have changed, no matter how long it would have taken.
- - -
The following months were the decisive ones. This time, Big Mom was planning to officially give the title to her favorite son and when Katakuri became the captain of the Charlotte crew no one objected.
Nobody had any doubts about that anyway, he was the perfect big brother in front of them. Perospero, like any other siblings, could only be proud of him.
That day, Linlin's last order was to make the biggest party ever and all of Tottoland celebrated the proclamation of their new king. Of course, you were happy for him too, probably because you were certain that he would have been better than his mother and an example for his son to follow.
《So, what will be your first order, your majesty? 》 Oven said almost sarcastically as he raised the goblet in front of him.
《Well, I'd start by opening a big nightclub here in Sweet City, that's a perfect gift for all of us bachelors for life, ahahaha!》
When Daifuku said that, no one replied and you didn't know whether to take that reaction right or wrong...well, it had to be said that, apart from Katakuri, Praline, Chiffon and Lola, no one else had married yet!
There, Katakuri chuckled to notice your frustrated expression.
《...don't you two start bothering him with your stunts.》 Smoothie replied by slowly blinking his uncovered eye; even though they were older than her, she had to admit that Oven and Daifuku managed to be really childish sometimes...
Anyway, Katakuri already knew what to do.
《Someone will have to take my place as minister of flour and I already know who it will be.》
The others looked around already knowing who it might be.
《Mmm, isn't your child too young for that? Maybe you better wait–》
《Y/n will be the new minister.》 His voice struck like a bolt from the blue displacing almost everyone in the room, including Big Mom. However, no one really wanted to argue with that.
You turned and raised your head towards him.
《I-I don't understand, why did you choose me? I don't know anything about this stuff!》
But Katakuri didn't seem worried.
《Mpf, don't worry, I'll teach you everything you need to know. Also, it's not your first time doing that, you have been looking after Komugi several times during my absence. I know you will do a great job, my dear.》
Then, he knelt down and lightly tapped your chalice with his; he was really convinced by his words and that magnetic gaze made you blush suddenly.
《I-I see. If this is your decision, I'll do my best then.》 You looked down at your white wine before taking a small sip and Katakuri couldn't help but smile as he saw your flattered face.
《How about we retire later? I'm tired of this kind of party...》 Your husband added so that only you could hear 《I want to be alone for a while with my pretty queen.》
《...what about Daigo and Yui? We can't leave them–》 But then, you saw your daughter dancing with Pudding and other girls, while your son was joking with Katakuri's brothers, especially with Cracker and that surprised you a bit...
《They are in good hands, as you can see.》 Katakuri also noticed that his children were busy having fun. Only you were missing.
《Yes, that's true...I'm so happy with what we have built together, Katakuri.》
You looked at him deeply when you said those words and Katakuri couldn't resist your attractive smile. You were right, after all.
Suddenly, he saw you lean against his leg wrapping an arm around it; then, you drank another drop of wine.
《...you're moving here, right?》 You said wistfully. Now that he had become the king, he had more important duties at headquarters.
《Mpf, I'll be back Y/n, I'm not going to be away from you for that long.》 He said stroking your bare shoulder. However, you tried to hold back a cry.
《That's good.》
You thought it was the right time to be together, before facing the new everyday life at home without Katakuri.
《I want to go now.》 You added grabbing his gloved hand.
《Are you sure? Don't you want to enjoy the party?》 Katakuri asked with a serious expression realizing that you had suddenly become sad.
Your grip tightened around him.
《Yes, before the others take my king away from me.》
Katakuri chuckled satisfied and, before turning around, grabbed you behind the knees to take you away with him.
His giant figure disappeared from that noisy room and when he was finally outside he kissed you under that moonlight.
《Mpf, you have grown up Y/n, you must know that I won't take it easy on you anymore.》 Katakuri whispered as he moved his lips to your neck.
《Come on, when you've ever been! On the other hand, I've never hated your obsessive attentions...》 Then, you put his face in your hands so that you could kiss his fangs boldly.
《And I'm still a little girl compared to you.》
Honestly, Katakuri hadn't thought that for a long time and now that you were the mother of his children you were anything but a little girl...
Without saying anything else, he hugged you so that could smell the perfume on your bare skin and your chest was enough to nestle on you.
《Y-you can't do that standing up...why don't we go somewhere where we can lie down?》 Although it was a fair question, the crimson giant looked at you as if you meant something else.
《I see, my wife is eager to get started.》
Katakuri grinned and immediately resumed walking, towards an unclear destination, but with a strong desire to continue from where you stopped him...he was tired of wearing that elegant but tight suit, anyway.
- - -
Soon, the whole world learned that Charlotte Katakuri had become the king of Tottoland and his exploits became headline news, both among pirates and in the Navy; in particular, the most important was the defeat of Donquixote Doflamingo...when you realized that first, you understood there was nothing left of the Donquixote family, if not the brief memory of your parents. And nothing more that could harm you, finally, and that was all thanks to Katakuri.
But the killing of the Heavenly Demon, and of a Royal Seven Warlords, inevitably increased his bounty and although it had been tripled, it still didn't exceed Linlin's bounty, since she was one of the Four Emperors...you didn't know why, but you were thrilled to see your husband's picture on that poster and to the fact he was labeled as a dangerous pirate.
The wanted poster signed 3.171.000.000 berries.
《Eeeh, it's a real shame that his mouth is hidden, it would have been much more intriguing to watch, huhu.》 You said out loud as you nibbled your index finger and sat comfortably in your new office.
Now that you were the minister of Komugi, you spent most of your time looking at endless sheets of paper.
You were alone there, as Katakuri was at the Whole Cake headquarters; suddenly, your lives were separated and the only way to communicate with each other was through Den Den Mushi.
Sometimes, your daughter broke into the room, so you could catch your breath from work. As for your son, you didn't see him very much during the day.
Anyway, when Daigo turned ten, you noticed how much he had changed; you saw him when he spent hours in his room studying, or doing demanding physical exercises; in a short time, his build grew leaner and more muscular as he gradually grew taller.
In no time, you realized he had lost that childish innocence and had suddenly become a man, or at least he was almost close to becoming one...in any case, you would never have stopped supporting him and you would have made sure that he could count on you.
《Can I come in?》 That time, you headed to his room and gently knocked on the closed door. You were right to give Yui a bedroom all to herself, that way both of them would have had their privacy.
"Yes" was the only answer you received. When you opened the door, you didn't believe your eyes...
Your son was standing there, shirtless, and with his arms raised above his head to support the weight of the object he was holding. But that was his own bed!
《W-w-what the heck are you doing!? Put it down, Daigo!!》 You said in a frightened tone.
But when you rushed over to him, he had already put the bed on the floor without hurting himself or breaking anything else.
《Sorry mom, I was training a little.》 At that moment, he grabbed the towel to wipe the sweat off his fair skin. But then, you knelt in front of him to do that for him. As much as he wanted to look cool, he was still your little kid.
He shook his head when you asked him if he was in pain somewhere. What you saw was really unexpected and you almost smiled...you admired his willpower and you were sure that if you told Katakuri, he would have thought the same thing.
However, you haven't forgotten how much he suffered from not being able to awaken the powers of the Devil Fruit, and the way he had been treated by the rest of the family.
《I guess we're going to have to set up a gym so you don't need to mess up your bedroom, hehe.》 You said as you carried him to the bathroom 《But you don't have to overdo it, okay?》
《...mom, can I ask you something?》 Until that moment, Daigo was looking down and when he spoke, he look you straight in the eye. Judging by the tone of his voice, there was something that made him thoughtful.
《Of course honey, tell me.》 You gave his spiky hair another wipe with the towel.
《Do you think I'll be a good pirate even without those powers...?》 His pink and lashed eyes looked at you as if looking for some hope.
《Good? You'll be the best someday, and you'll probably be better than your dad too.》 After that, you stretched your hands over his small, hard shoulders.
《You don't need a Devil Fruit to prove who you are, Daigo.》
Your son's eyes widened and his lips tightened to keep them from trembling. Then, he hugged you tightly.
《I-I want to protect the people I love, just like dad does...I promise you that I'll become the strongest pirate the world has ever known!!!》
This time, he couldn't hold back his sobs and neither you. He was still young, but inside he burned with desire to be who he wanted.
He wasn't just the son of the Emperor, after all...
