Chapter 13 - Troubles (part 1)

⚜️ Keywords ⚜️

Y/n -> your name
E/c -> eyes colour

🔱

With your bag over your shoulder, you were gazing at the fleet of ships in front of you, now ready for departure, at the port of Whole Cake Island.

《Aaaaaah, how pleasant the early morning breeze is!》  After joining you, Pudding stretched intensely.

《Woah, what have you done to your hair?!》  She asked in amazement.

《A little change...》  You simply answered her, but she grabbed your shoulders.

《Give me back my old Y/n! Did you hear me?!》  Even though she was funny, her behavior worried you.

《You're in the way.》  You both moved away. Galette turned to you with a haughty air.

《Why are you looking at me like that? I just told you to move.》  As always, she was trying to tease you.

《I just don't like how you asked for it.》  As always, you weren't stayed with your mouth closed.

《Please, calm down!》  Pudding tried to get in between the two of you, but the sparks that were coming out of your eyes made her pull away.

At that moment, all three of the Sweet Generals arrived.

《How many hot spirits do we have here...what happened?》  Smoothie was in the center of the trio and stared; she must have understood that her sister had said something.

《Nothing to worry about, nee-san! It was just a little discussion...》  Pudding replied, waving her hands.

Katakuri chuckled, while Cracker watched him closely. He realized that behind his reaction, you were involved.

《Ehy, are you all ready?》  Oven said, followed by Daifuku and Perospero.

《The queen is still missing, perororo...》  The latter added, until a few footsteps made the earth tremble.
Big Mom, accompanied by some soldiers, was approaching with her usual terrifying smile.

《IT'S TIME TO LEAVE! LET'S GO, MAMAMAMAMA!》  Linlin boarded her giant pink ship, while the others split up among the three Generals ships. Pudding, Oven and Daifuku boarded Katakuri's with you.

Once on board, you turned towards the harbor. You were sure Brûlée would come too, but perhaps she had been ordered to watch over the archipelago, since only she could move quickly thanks to her mirrors.

《How long does it take to reach Delta island?》  It was very windy that day and the sails danced more than ever up there.

《It's a New World island, but it's quite isolated from the others. If we continue at this rate, we'll be there before noon.》  Daifuku answered you as he approached.

He seemed very excited and, as soon as the twins arrived, he put his arm around Katakuri, who didn't react in the least.
《You'll see that we'll have fun!》

You all laughed. Katakuri looked at you and sighed deeply...he didn't know what, but something was bothering him.

- - -

From a distance, the island seemed like many others, green and silent, until you were close enough to admire all its colorful and chaotic splendor.
The bay was full of ships, of all types and sizes.

A beam was thrown down on the pier and the people there stopped to observe you...after all, who didn't know the Charlotte pirates?

《Wait a moment Y/n.》  Katakuri stopped you, before you could get off.

《Sure, Katakuri.》  You said quietly. You didn't understand why he had been serious all that time.

《Don't go away from me, okay?》  He looked down at you and didn't move until you understood what he had just said.

《Don't worry...》  You hinted at a smile and, after wearing one of your beloved black denim jackets and colored sunglasses, you hit the mainland.

Your descent caused murmurs that spread more and more. The eyes were implanted on the whole family, but especially on you. They didn't know who you were, and if they had ever seen your face before, it wasn't by chance.
Anyway, you tried not to think too much about it. Their attention also turned to the giant behind you, who was following you menacingly.

《MAMAMAMA, THIS PLACE IS A BIG PARTY WITH THE MOST RUTHLESS PIRATES IN THE WORLD! WHAT DO YOU THINK, Y/N?》  Big Mom turned to you, interested.

《I still don't have a definite opinion on this event...》  You said putting your hands in the pockets of your elastic pants.

《MMM, AND WHY ON EARTH?》  She couldn't wait to hear your answer and you played her game.

《I'll be a little cocky, but I don't see all this ruthlessness around...》  Not surprisingly, not far from you was a man who was picking his nose with his finger in public.

《AHAHAHAHAHA! I DIDN'T EXPECT ANYTHING ELSE FROM MY SWEET DAUGHTER-IN-LAW...GREAT JOB, KATAKURI!》  The sons didn't agree and, from the beginning, they wanted Katakuri to give you a good lesson, because of your attitude.

After that chat, Linlin ordered her generals to follow her for a very important meeting, of which no one else knew.

《We'll take care of your little wife, perororo.》  Katakuri's gaze shifted to Oven and Daifuku; if they were there too, then he could feel comfortable.

《Good.》  Then he walked over to you; he didn't give you any caress, probably to avoid prying eyes from relatives and all those strangers.
《Be careful Y/n.》

《You worry too much, Katakuri. When did I get into some trouble?》  Your sarcasm didn't help.  《I'm not that rash, especially in a place I don't know. Trust me, please.》  You put your hands together in prayer.

Katakuri sighed and, with the back of the index finger, gave you a gentle caress on the cheek.
《You have become too precious...besides, I don't trust this scum.》  He concluded with an irritated expression, but you gave him a nice smile as a greeting.

As soon as you separated again, Smoothie said something to her giant mother.

《Why do you let that girl talk to you in that disrespectful way? Even if you chose to let her into the family, why do you insist on not reproaching her?》

Smoothie wasn't angry with you personally, but she wanted to know what was on her mind.
It was then that she saw it...the biggest and scariest grin Big Mom could ever make.

After all, she used to be like you time before.

- - -

It was like a labyrinth. In any corner you turned there was a row of stalls selling just about anything. Pudding was running around with you, to be able to see everything.

《Uff...I want to buy something!》  There were a lot of cool and interesting things, but you couldn't spend all the money you brought.

You stopped in front of a table that sold all sorts of creams and chocolates.
《Look here Pudding...these might be perfect for your cakes.》

Her expression became even more desperate.
《Don't tell me that, please...or I won't be able to resist the temptation!》
You burst into laughter.

As you wiped away a tear, something caught your attention. A faint colored light across the street, sometimes hidden from the passage of people.
Despite that, you were able to see it.
Without warning the other, you moved to reach it.

《What?...a stone?》  Black as pitch, until it glowed brightly with familiar energy.

《What is this feeling...》

《Gorgeous, right? I'm glad you noticed.》  An elderly man appeared from behind the counter making you jump.

《Hehe, everyone does this the first time...I would love to see it.》  At that moment, you realized he was blind.

《I didn't mean to be rude, sir.》

《That's fine. Anyway, you seem interested in that.》  Obviously, he was referring to the special stone.

《I saw it by chance and it isn't every day to see stuff like this.》  The old man smiled.

By chance? Are you sure?》  You were baffled by his sharpness.
《Only a few can perceive its true essence.》

Your curiosity grew with each passing second.
《I would like to know more.》

The old man just smiled, before telling his story.

- - -

《I'm a walking dead.》  Perospero's tongue was about to reach the ground.

《Tsk, do you think you're the only one?》  Oven scratched his head nervously.  《I can't believe we managed to lose sight of her...》

Daifuku was more careful to watch all the beautiful girls who passed by, to listen to his brother.
《Come on, Y/n is certainly not stupid...and then, there's Pudding with–》

His mouth stopped as soon as he saw Pudding smiling at a man who was delivering her a lot of packages.
《Wow! Laura-san will be proud of me!》  Soon after, she joined the brothers.

《Pudding...where is Y/n?》  Oven asked seriously, under the shocked eyes of the girl.

《S-she was with me just now...》

The group began to circle around, but it was difficult to find you in the middle of all that crowd, even from their heights.
The last thing they wanted was to disappoint their brother and fear something might happen to you.

《Damn it...》

- - -

Around you, time seemed to stop. Listening to that old man's story made you aware of a truth you would never have imagined.

He told you that, long ago, the first people to reign on Earth had received the blessing of their sea divinity giving them extraordinary power; longevity, rapid healing and strength were the attributes that united these people and thus became the kings of the sea.
The bravest of these developed extremely rare powers, to the point that their own families began to fear them, certain that their own divinity had taken possession of them...

For this reason, they left their homes to explore the world; the future generations had inherited the power from their parents but, as the ages passed, they began to feel that weight crushing them more and more, until they could no longer control it...so it was that they decided to hide it from everyone, even forget it over time.
In recent years, when piracy became a new way of life, the carriers of this power were accidentally killed but, due to their unusual eye color, traffickers decided to exploit them as a bargaining chip on the black market and many of them became slaves of World Nobles...

He went on to say that, when he was younger, he had met an extraordinarily handsome young man, with a dark complexion and unusual eyes and only too late realized that he was special. One day, to try to escape from the clutches of an unscrupulous pirate captain, he took the boy with him and, to defend him from an attack, he lost his sight...

《I was just a simple fisherman, but I felt I couldn't leave him...however, he was the one who saved me.》  A tear ran down his face and he tried to wipe it away quickly. You couldn't help but be sad about what happened.

《Even though I know he's gone, it's as if I still feel him here...》  He held out his hands to the black stone.
《I will never forget him.》

《So, are you telling me that this guy's spirit has moved to this stone?》  You cut him off.

《His whole existence has been locked away in here. I just picked it up, but this is proof that power has never disappeared and continues to exist. After all, the sea has simply taken back what belonged to it from the start.》  He concluded with a smile.

《How did you discover all this?》  You asked him suddenly. Not only he knew a piece of history that no one would ever expect, but also the origins of the power you felt inside and, even before that, your mother.

《In my life, I have traveled a lot and, even though I couldn't see, I have known extraordinary people and stories, always carrying my precious stone with me.》

《And now you want to sell it? Aren't you afraid it might fall into the wrong hands?》  Indeed, that item was, along with the others, for sale.

《I'm sure the one who buys it will be the right person.》  Despite that sad memory, he couldn't help but smile at his listener.  《I hope someone like you.》

《I don't entirely agree, sir. I think you should keep it, rather than give it to someone else, as you're still very attached. It's the right choice to make.》

The old man seemed surprised by your words. You were the first not to be interested in the stone and even advised not to sell it.

《Can I know your name?》

《Y/n. Charlotte Y/n.》  At that moment, the man asked you to reach out a hand for him and you did.

《You are still very young.》  He said as he stroked the back of your hand.  《But I feel there is something greater, almost venerable, about you.》

《I'm sure I know who I am, sir. However, I feel there's a part of me that I still don't understand...》  Your voice had suddenly become serious.

《I'm sure you'll find out soon. I hope I haven't bored you too much.》  He narrowed his gray eyes with a smile.

《Not even a little. Thanks to you for telling me.》  You returned.

《Y/nnnnn!》  A voice screamed your name and it was Pudding's.

《I have to go now. Take care, sir.》  You said just before walking away from his stall.

《You too, Y/n-san.》

- - -

《Where were you?! I've been looking everywhere for you!》  Pudding waved her bags in the air.

《I only went away for a while, don't worry.》  Unlike you, your sister-in-law went shopping.  《I was across the street, anyway...》  She looked at you with astonishment, clearly embarrassed.

《W-well, the others got worried...》  She said in a weak voice.

《Where are they now? I guess they're behind us...》  Even though Katakuri asked them to look at you, you didn't want to look like someone who needed babysitters.

《Let's go, Pudding.》  She swallowed deeply as she followed you down the main street.

- - -

Without you noticing it, two hours had passed. Walking around the fair was fun, but you decided it was time to stop and eat something.
Your attention fell on an inn, from which came a flood of voices and a good smell of meat.

《Hey, let's go take a look in there...》

《It seems crowded enough already...are you sure?》  Pudding looked a little hesitant.

《It'll be okay, so relax.》  You told her, before heading for the swing door of the restaurant.

As soon as you two crossed the threshold, all the din inside fell silent.

《A-are you still sure it's a good idea...?》  Pudding said softly. She wasn't completely wrong, as those present were watching you.

《If we leave now, they'll think we're afraid of them...this isn't their territory.》

After that, you walked over to an empty table and made yourself comfortable.
It was hard to stay calm and you started getting nervous with all those looks around.
Suddenly, someone approached the table, but it wasn't the waitress who took the order...a girl with pink hair and skimpy clothes looked at both of them with an annoyed, but at the same time curious face.

《If you're looking for trouble, you've picked the right place...who are you?》  Pudding tried to resist the urge to hit her and you were the only one to answer her.

《We came here to eat, like you and all these people.》  The unknown girl kicked off the table, until it tipped over to the other side.

《Really? And how are you going to eat if you don't even have a table?》  She added with a petty smile.
You kept staring into her purple eyes and the other couldn't help but regard it as a challenge.

《Let me see then...》  She pulled a gun out of her brown fur, her finger on the trigger, while some men, probably under her command, surrounded you and Pudding. The situation was taking a bad turn.

《I don't want to fight. It's clear that there was a misunderstanding...let's try to resolve it in another way.》  You got up from your chair and positioned yourself in front of her. You had looked at Pudding's gaze for a moment and she was quite agitated, but she had remained motionless to avoid angering that crazy bitch.

《Well, make me an offer.》  Your hands began to rummage in your pocket for some coins, but the other one glared at you.

《What the hell are you doing? You're a fool to think I'm interested in money!》  Her answer puzzled you.

《Didn't you say you were hungry? Well, I'll let you eat as much as you like, but you'll also have to be able to beat me! Hey you! Bring that stuff over here, now!》
She screamed at her men, who moved together to bring a long table there, full of food.

She took off her fur to be more comfortable and sat down in front of the table.
《You better hurry up, if you don't want it all to end!》

It was pure nonsense. You looked for Pudding, but couldn't find her.

《...if you're looking for the brunette she's right there...》
But next to you, there was a little baby who looked a lot like her.

《What the...! P-Pudding? It's not possible...》  The baby began to cry and, as she did so, her fringe shifted revealing her third eye. There was no doubt it was her.

《If you want her to be like before, you'll have to do as I told you.》  You understood she had probably eaten a Devil Fruit.

You also took off your jacket and laid it on the chair, but not your glasses. On the contrary, you fixed them over your nose.

《Let's finish this bullshit quickly.》

- - -

You had no words to describe what you were seeing. How could she have finished a whole plate of ribs, a roast, two pizzas and still be hungry?!

By now, you had gotten to the point where you used the napkin to wipe the sweat off your forehead. You couldn't swallow anything anymore, not even a piece of bread.

《What happens? Don't tell me you're done already...!》  Her hands were still holding two chicken legs. At this point, you regret not having fought...

You filled a mug of beer, to try to stir up your stomach. You couldn't let Pudding stay that way and you had to do something other than eat.

It was then that you noticed a detail. She hadn't even taken a sip of water.

《Am I wrong or haven't you been drinking all this time? I think it's right to finish this too.》  You drank all the beer in one gulp, under the irritated eyes of the other.

《Heh, I like you in this way! Bring us more of it!》

Soon after, the table was full again, but this time with bottles and glasses.
Your opponent managed to swallow those too, but you were no less.
The others in the bar were starting to bet on who would win.

《Ah! Apparently you like to drink better than...》  Until she stopped.
Even though you had been drinking for a while, you noticed her face suddenly turning white.

She squeezed her belly tightly, thus losing her balance.
《Ugh, damn!》
She was starting to have convulsions and you were sure she was going to spit it all out.

《C-captain!》  Her crew members approached to help her.

《Stay away, you idiots! It's not over yet...!》  She tried hard to get on her feet. Her eyes were full of anger.

《I'm sorry for you, but it's all over.》  You told her seriously. Surprisingly, she accepted defeat and ran straight to the bathroom.

Some viewers were speechless as you grabbed baby Pudding, who was dangerously playing with your gun.

After a few minutes, the woman returned.
《Shit...I've never felt this bad in my entire life!》
You feared she wanted a fight now, even if it didn't seem, due to her condition.

《But I must admit that you tricked me for good, with the excuse of drink.》  You couldn't understand what she meant, until she explained to you that it was a weakness of her Devil Fruit.

《I see...sorry for that.》  It wasn't your intention to get her down this way, especially in front of all those men, but she didn't care.

《Hahaha! This is nice!》  She laughed exaggeratedly with her mouth open.  《Ever since you set foot in here I thought you were one with balls, but I needed confirmation!》

《Well, a weird way to ask for that...》  You made a face, under the endless laughter of the other.

《...so, what's your name?》  She finally asked you.

《Y/n.》  Meanwhile, she pushed her long pink hair over her shoulder with a haughty smile.

《I'm Jewelry Bonney.》

- - -

Unfortunately, when Pudding returned normal, she hadn't forgotten that she had been turned into a child.

《Y-you! How did you dare to do this to me?!》  She pointed the finger at the one who, until recently, was your enemy.

《You're back as before and that's the important thing. Try to stay calm.》  You tried to say.

《Y-you mean you forgive her?!》  This time, Pudding turned to you in anger.

《I don't mean that, but there's no reason to argue now.》  You asserted quietly, but she didn't take it well.

《Oh, is that so? Well, I'm leaving! You don't need me anyway!》  Without even hearing reasons, she abruptly pushed the door to exit.

《Byeee.》  Bonney sang.

You didn't understand why she reacted like that and you stayed silent. The other girl noticed.

《If I had known she was so hysterical, I would have left her as a baby, haha!》  She patted you on the back forcing you to look into her face.
《Forget it.》

Even though you had settled with her, albeit ridiculously, you didn't want to have anything to do with her, so you stepped back.
《Why do you say that? The two of us don't even know each other.》

《I just don't care about that brat. On the contrary, the two of us can get along.》  Not only you didn't understand what Pudding was up to before, but not even now with this strange woman.

《Why don't we walk around the island? There are a lot of interesting things and I'm not just referring to the fair...》
You didn't know where the others were and going alone wasn't a good idea, as was going with her and her crew.

You took a long sigh.
《All right.》

Bonney just grinned and you all walked out.

- - -

《What a boring day...》  Cracker yawned all the time, even when his mother's conversation ended.

Smoothie said nothing, as duty was duty and there was no arguing, while Katakuri, well, had been silent the whole time. Not only he frightened passersby, but also his own brothers.

《Something wrong, nii-san?》  But of course, Smoothie got no response.

Cracker walked over to her to speak softly.
《Of course, he would have liked to stay with her...》

《That's normal. If you had a wife too, you wouldn't leave her alone on this island.》  Smoothie sighed as she watched her crimson brother from behind.

《I have to admit that Katakuri has softened a lot, after her arrival...or better, after "something"...》  Cracker laughed maliciously.
He had been forgiven once, but he had continued to provoke his brother when he had the chance.

《I bet Y/n's having more fun than usual now that she's back on the loose...maybe with someone who has–》

He fell silent and turned pale as Katakuri grabbed him by the thing on top of his head.
He met his bad-tempered eyes and swallowed heavily.

《Why do I still hear your mouth shooting shit? I suggest you stop, if you don't want me to force Mama to find a new general to replace his dead predecessor. Did I make myself clear, Cracker?》

《Y-yes, onii-san...forgive me...》  Katakuri pushed him away and started walking forward.

Only later he met the group, where Pudding had returned too. Katakuri noticed that something had happened, because of her laments and your absence.

《Where is Y/n?》  He asked them. Pudding thought to answer, heedless.

《I don't care where she's now, as she preferred to stay with that woman! I hate you, Y/n!》  And she burst into tears.

《What woman?》  Katakuri couldn't know who she was.

Oven intervened, as the little sister was busy drying her eyes.
《I don't know her name, but I think she's a pirate of the worst generation...》
