¶BOLU¶
I opened my New School Physics textbook to the topic, Simple A.C Circuits.
Five minutes later, I was dozing and drooling.
Literally.
I jerked up at the sound of the bell signaling the end of the first free period. Great! So I wasted time doing nothing!
I sighed feeling sorry for myself and picked up the textbook again. Another five minutes later, I started to understand it but then the voice in my head came again;
‘It’s a lie, you don’t know anything in that physics.’
‘See how she’s just whining herself, shioor!’
‘You don’t know anything, you block head!’
That was it and I resisted the urge to cuss and slammed the textbook angrily. If I was going to fail physics anyway, why did I even bother trying?
“Hey, mama, have mercy on the book na,” I heard a very familiar male voice say and I looked up to see it was Ore Jumai, Head boy and my seat mate. I rolled my eyes.
Since we became seatmates, he never ceased to annoy me. It’s either he poked me during class, or he dragged a weave of my braided hair or something…sha, just to disturb me.
He was so stuck up and full of himself. Cocky about every little thing. He was currently leaning on the staircase railings like a model which he wasn’t, his eyebrows raised.
“Grandpa, have you lost your way or did you suddenly get transferred back to JSS1?” I said.
He smirked as if I just complimented him and walked down the stairs to sit beside me. “I should ask you the same, woman.”
I rolled my eyes again. “You were going somewhere, weren’t you? Keep going na.” I made a hand gesture towards the door that led out of the staircase and out of the junior block.
He shrugged. “I changed my mind.”
“Why?”
“Because I saw you.”
I rolled my eyes again and went back; no, I tried to go back to reading. I said ‘tried’ ‘cause baba here took the book out of my hands and said:
“What are you reading sef?” He raised his eyebrows, as he looked at my physics textbook. “And why is the textbook so neat?”
“Nina,” I voiced out remembering how she’d threatened me, saying she’d end our friendship if my textbook was rough. Oshi nonsense!
“Oh,” was all he said. “Are you grabbing what you’re reading like this bayii, in this noisy as hell of a block?”
“Yup,” I lied with a fake smile, shining my teeth too much.
“Eehen? Oya tell me what impedance is.” He gave me a quizzical look.
“See baba, I know you’re way smarter than me, you don’t have to show it. You’re the head boy after all,” I said avoiding the question because I clearly didn’t know what impedance was. I hadn’t even reached that part.
So there was something called impedance? What? What? Again, please who invented physics?
If it wasn’t Newton, who was already dead, then the person and I have serious scores to settle.
“Mama, don’t try to avoid the question, I’m smart and I know it.” He sated and a cocky smirk appeared on his lips. “Tell me what impedance is.”
“Uh…” I started and that was when a loud shout erupted from one of the classes saving me from answering, or so I thought.
“We’re leaving, come with me.” He stood up. I sat still.
“No! I don’t wanna leave! I came here without you, so why should I leave with you?”
“Come with me, naw, before they comman ask me to control those JSS2 boys again. Lord knows I can’t take any more of the stress they have given me today, aswear.” His eyebrows creased as he probably remembered the stress he went through to control those annoying children. I chuckled.
“So Ore Jumai can be stressed?” I laughed at his expression.
“Come on, Bolu. Let’s leave…” He trailed off and then his eyes lit up like he remembered something. “GCE result is out!”
“W-what?” I shouted as my eyes literally bulged and almost rolled out of their sockets. I knew GCE was going to be out soon. They postponed its release but I never expected it to be today.
“Relax.” He smiled. “Now can we go?”
I nodded without hesitation. My hands suddenly became sweaty as I picked my book and followed behind.
Then various thoughts started soaring through my mind.
What will I make?
Will I have all my papers?
Math won’t be that bad, right?
I’d definitely ace chemistry and English, wouldn’t I?
I wouldn't have to lie about my results again, would I?
Physics will...
My thoughts were cut off by a male voice who I quickly remembered was Ore’s.
“We’re here.”
I stared blankly at him for a moment.
“Hello, earth to Bolu…” He dragged waving his hands in my face.
I blinked once. Twice. Thrice. And then a fourth time before shaking my head and coming out of my daze finally noticing my surroundings.
We were in a garden, a small one though and I looked ahead to see a white building in front of us.
Recognizing it as the clinic, my mouth formed an ‘o’ shape as I realized it must be another place I never knew existed in RBA. Wow! Many surprises. How did Ore even know about this place? It’s like they had a thing for gardens.
“Surprised now, are we?” He asked as he sat down on one of the benches.
I nodded. “Stunned, in fact.”
“I was when I came here for the first time.”
I nodded again and then he dragged me to sit beside him on the bench. I actually forgot to sit down. We were large inches apart. I dropped my books beside me not knowing what to do next, whether to read or_
“Wanna check your result?” He asked as if he read my thoughts.
“I…I…I’m not…s-sure…I,” I stuttered as my already dry palms started to become sweaty again.
He smirked. “Aunty, calm D. You don’t have to be so nervous, okay?”
“Have you checked yours?” I asked him ‘cause he seemed to be so calm. What was I saying? We were talking about Ore Jumai here! Literally, technically and practically the most intelligent and smartest boy in the whole of River Brook Academy! He didn’t even need to check sef. He’d definitely pass.
His smirk widened and he raised his eyebrows twice in response to my question.
“What did… never mind. I’m sure you made all As.”
He shook his head. “Nah…just six As actually. I had the rest as Bs.”
“Still amazing.” I stated. If he got this during GCE God knows he’d get all As during our real WAEC exams.
“A well known fact.” He added cockily.
I rolled my eyes. “How’d you check?”
He shrugged. “I didn’t. The admin officer that registered us told me he already checked mine when I got the principal’s office and he showed me what I made.”
“Oh, cool.”
“Guess I’d better check mine,” I said after a few minutes of silence. He nodded and I wondered for a few seconds, why he was still sitting here and waiting patiently for me to check. I took out my phone with trembling hands. I had already saved the details I would use to check. All I had to do was copy and paste.
I turned on my mobile data and immediately a message came to my phone that said I no longer had a data plan. “Shet!” I exclaimed getting Ore’s attention.
“What happened?”
“Well…I just realized I don’t have data.” I shrugged. “Maybe I’ll just check when I get home and_”
“No need!” He cut me off. “Fap the school’s WiFi.” A smirk played on his lips.
I shook my head but smiled. “I’d do that but…I don’t know the password.” I waved my phone a little.
“Give me,” He ordered.
I obeyed. I handed him my phone after I unlocked it. I watched as he typed some stuff on it and after two or three seconds, I started to hear the message tone from my phone multiple times. What did he do?
“Here,” he handed it back to me. I looked at my phone to see all my whatsapp messages had entered and were still entering, all my social media stuffs and mails and other things too, they entered.
I was wondering what he did when he opened his mouth to say: “Yes, I successfully got the school’s WiFi password because I’m a genius.”
“Yeah, yeah, stop feeling yourself,” I replied and made a face at him.
RBA should know this: they af daran!
Period.
Time to stop fooling around.
My hands went back to being sweaty and shaky as I was about to check my result. I typed in my details, scared to death of what I might see.
“Bolu, be calming down,” Ore said making a gesture.
Easy for him to say! When baba already made nine distinctions, he’s now saying trash about calming down. Mtcheeww!
He moved closer to me and I could smell his cologne. Pretty sure Kanyin would be able to tell the name of the type he used.
My breath became shaky as I typed the last figure of the serial number and then clicked ‘check result.’ I held my breath and closed my eyes waiting for the page to load and it didn’t even waste time, it brought my result immediately, showing my full name, exam number and then to the result itself. My eyes landed on Chemistry: A1...The result was looking good until my eyes landed on Physics: E8.
My phone dropped from my hands and I fell on my knees to the ground. Tears started gathering at the sides of my eyes as I looked at Ore who had picked up my phone, looked at it, hoping it was not damaged and then looked back at me with raised eyebrows showing shock and then turning into worry.
“Bolu…what_” He started but I could not hold back anymore. I let everything out crying like a baby. I did not see his face but I was sure he was confused.
“It happened again,” I said between my tears.
“What happened again?” He asked as he crouched in front of me, holding my shoulders, causing me to look up at him. He was worried, no doubt and at the same time, confused.
“Physics…” I drew out, still crying.
He did not say another word. All he did was kneel completely in front of me and pull me into his embrace. I didn’t hesitate to be hugged ‘cause I really needed it. On a normal day, I would not just hug anybody but I was so vulnerable at that moment and since Nina or Ninu was not here, well…
He just patted my back saying; “it’s gonna be okay, Bolu. Stop crying.”
There was nothing more to hide.
My weakness, which never actually became strengthened and never left, had come back to haunt me.
I was never going to be good at physics.
Um...Hi again!
First off... Happy Valentine's day!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃
And happy Sunday too!
How's the valentine going na?
Trust you guys have Vals unlike us...😂😂😂😂
All my single ladies raise your hand like this✌️✌️✌️✌️☝️☝️☝️ yes ohh we gather dey.
I'm catching cruise in my bedroom 😎😂 with my pillow and food and Wattpad😂😂😂😎
Okay, so that being said: What do you think of this chapter?
And the previous one.
Did Bolu put those girls in their place?
Was it right for them to bully Rosella?
Abeg, how do you see Ore and Bolu's seatmate relationship?
You are free to make ship names if you want😂😂😂
Who's your favorite character so far?
And that thing about tall girls being bullied is true cuz it happened to me. People used to make me feel bad about my height and I started being ashamed of it. I didn't realize how dumb I was and how much my height was wanted by a lot of people.
Well... it's all good now, tho.
Also, I changed Fred's face claim cuz well...🤷🤷
Hopefully, character aesthetics would be up soon.
So...guys thanks again for voting and commenting. Please don't stop!
Next update? I don't know but it won't be long Sha.
So till then, let's sit back, relax and enjoy the season of love❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love you guys as always
*Forcefully shoves love into your faces* 😂😂😂
Uh...yeah...bye!
