She remembers the first day this happened in this same hallway. How students gathered. How she was disgraced and ridiculed.
It's all happening again.
In this same school.
She knew this was going to happen sooner or later.
Her heart was beating violently in her ribcage, she was afraid it was gonna burst out.
The stares from students didn't comfort her either. Their eyes penetrating into her skin, judging her like they did the last time.
She wanted to run but she couldn't, her legs felt trap, felt stuck into the ground.
She observed her surrounding and saw Florence and Jessica standing in front of me with evil smirks glued on their faces.
"Oh, if it isn't the daughter of a fraudster." Jessica said tauntingly causing Florence to laugh.
"So you have the mind to come in here after what happened three years ago, and you really thought you would go scotch free? Girl you're joking."
She tried to block out her words from my ears but my ears listened.
"It's a shame, trying to be strong when you're really just weak."
"Are the both of you out of your mind, what do you think you're doing?" At that moment Amaka came running standing in front of Jessica and Florence.
"Oh you're friend is here, or should I say the number one betrayer." Jessica's words made the brave front Amaka put up disappear in seconds.
Sonia had a confused look on her face as she stared at Amaka who refused to meet her eyes.
"What do you mean?" Her voice came out small but audible for everyone to hear.
"Oh now you speak." Florence mocked.
"So Amaka what's it gonna be, are you going to tell her or should we." They directed the question at Amaka whose hands were shaking.
"So Eleanor you always wanted to know who gave me the information about Sonia's dad being a fraudster right?" Jessica directed the question to Eleanor who was leaning on all the wall just observing.
"Yeah?" It came out like a question instead of a statement.
"Well Amaka was the one who gave me the information and also encouraged me to take it to all the news stations so I can destroy Sonia's life."
Sonia looked at Amaka in shock whose head was just bowed the whole time refusing to make eye contact with anyone. Sonia felt betrayed, she felt angry and sad, but all her emotions were quickly replaced with anger as she marched furiously towards Amaka.
"Tell me this isn't true!" The harshness of her voice caused Amaka to shake in her spot.
"Sonia I can explain... I-"
"You what?!" She screamed at Amaka who looked scared out of her life.
"One d-day when I came to your h-house, I s-saw you weren't around and your parents weren't either so I saw some papers on your table and opened them just out of curiosity. Inside them were letters of debits and threats. Once I realized what they were I took a picture and decided to show you the next day."
"So why didn't you show me?" Sonia asked, much calmer this time.
"I left my phone in the locker room and silly me forgot to put a password on it. So when I came back, I saw Jessica and her friends going through my phone and laughing at something so I quickly ran to them and saw that they were reading my chats with Me Raymond, our English teacher, the one I told you I had a crush on that time. "
"I begged of them to stop, but they didn't. Instead Jessica dismissed her friends, leaving only the both of us in the room. She then claimed that it wasn't only the chats that she saw, she also saw the pictures of your dad's stuff I snapped. That it's either I let send it to her or she exposes my chats."
"Sonia I swear, I tried to tell you, but the guilt was eating me up. Even when you relocated and left Lagos, I tried to tell you so many times on FaceTime and our normal chats but I couldn't just do it, I didn't want to open your wounds again."
Sonia let the tears stream down her face as she listened to all of Amaka's confessions. The one person who she thought she could trust was even the start of the whole thing? What else didn't she know?
Through her tear filled eyes she looked up and saw her classmates looking at her with an expression she couldn't make out and other students.
"Why are you crying? Are you surprised, no one would ever want to be friends with someone like you. You're manipulative and you have a terrible father!" Florence said with pure hate and disdain in her tone.
"Florence are you okay!?" Flora pushed through the crowd of students that were gathered around the scene and made her way to the front. She stared at Sonia who was on the floor shedding tears and at her sister.
She marched towards Florence and did the most unexpected thing.
She gave Florence a ear deafening slap right across her right cheek, which made all the students to gasp in terror.
Florence held her cheek, not believing her sister raised her hand at her. Once she recovered she looked at a seething Flora.
"Flora did you just-"
"Yes I slapped you, and I will do it over and over again until you gain your senses back!!!"
"You're letting unwanted hate cloud your senses, I can't believe you would even stoop this low to do something this heinous. I had always known that you weren't alright in the head but I never knew things would go this far. What the fuck is wrong with you." Veins were literally popping out of Flora's head as she said each word.
"Please stop overreacting, she deserves it anyway. She always acts like she's perfect, but she's just a-"
Wham
Before Jessica could complete her sentence, she felt something on her face.
She slapped her.
"Did you just-"
Wham
"You see you ehn, whatever your name is I hope you burn in hell and rot, retarded bastard! Are you that obsessed? After so many years you just couldn't leave the poor girl along, because you are an insecure bitch! But guess what? Sonia will get back on her knees stronger and better so, FUCK YOU AND YOUR ENTIRE BLOODLINE!!!"
Flora brought out her two middle fingers in the air and showed it to raging Jessica. She darted her gaze to her twin sister before shaking her head disappointment.
Her gaze then went to a crying Sonia on the floor and quickly rushed to her. Her eyes were red obviously because of the endless tears streaming down her face.
"Sonia it's okay let's go." Flora dragged her off the floor but her legs felt wobbly so she couldn't move. Flora had to put her arm on her back so it would be easier.
Derrick on the other hand just stood there while all the whole drama unfolded before him, he gets it now, she was scared because she knew something like this was going to happen. But instead of doing something about it, he just initiated a fight with her.
He wanted to run to where she was and pull into a tight hug but he couldn't. Nothing was restraining him but he just couldn't.
He watched as Flora carried Sonia out of the scene. As soon as they were out of sight everyone in the hallway started murmuring on top of their voices.
All KIHS students were confused what just happened but from what they could gather, Sonia didn't have an ordinary past.
Derrick on the other hand felt uncomfortable staying in this atmosphere, so he walked away to a place where he can find solitude.

"I swear to God you would've done so much than that small slap you gave Jessica, you'd have poured her acid on her face, or even called me for backup so we can beat her black and blue. And I didn't understand the one that you're sister was doing there oh, what was the meaning of that one?" Kelechi was engaging herself with a conversation with Flora whose mind wasn't anywhere here.
Kelechi noticing this snapped her fingers in front of her. "Earth to Flora."
Flora snapped out of her trance and fixed her focus on Kelechi.
"I really don't know what possessed my sister to do what she did but I swear to God as we leave this godforsaken school tomorrow she shouldn't even say one word to me." Flora spoke out.
She looked at Sonia who was now sleeping on the bed after shedding a lot of tears. She still can't believe Sonia would stoop this low.
"Well all I know is that everyone in this school is mad. They even had mind to make group chat to discuss the matter at hand, jobless people."
Flora agreed with everything Kelechi said and prayed that the day will be over soon so that they'll leave.
A knock sounded on the door, causing the both of them to glance at it. Flora volunteered to open it and saw a person she didn't exactly fancy at the moment. The figure looked disturbed but managed to put on a brave front.
"May I help you." She asked the question as a statement.
"I'm here to see Sonia."
"She's sleeping and she definitely doesn't want to see you." Flora was about to slam the door but she stuck her leg in restricting her actions.
"Don't you there close this door on me! I want to see my best friend." The girl said with annoyance in her tone
"Who is that one making noise like cricket bawo?" Kelechi said, only to see the scene before her.
"Amaka or whatever your name is what are you doing here?" Kelechi asked while sizing her up and down.
"I want to see my friend and talk to her and you guys are obstructing me from achieving my goal."
"Goal kee you there, it's to just kill you! After everything you've done, you had the audacity to bring your two bend bend legs here to talk to her and even called her your friend. Oya don't just piss me off, be going." Kelechi told Amaka.
Amaka on the other hand wasn't going to give up so easily. She pretended she was about to go and when she saw they weren't surrounding the door anymore she ran through startling them both.
"What the actual hell!" Kelechi exclaimed.
Amaka frantically searched the room looking for a familiar figure, and when her eyes laid on the figure she climbed the bed and shook Sonia telling her to wake up.
Sonia jumped from the bed with sleepiness in her eyes. She looked around only to find Amaka sitting on her bed, smiling.
"Sonia bestie!!!" Amaka practically jumped off the bed to hug Sonia. Sonia on the other hand pushed her before her body could come in contact with hers.
"What do you want?" Sonia said through gritted teeth, she was in no mood for this. She had an headache, she was still sleepy and her whole body felt tired.
"Can't I see my friend again." Her tone was high pitched as she laughed.
Friend?
Is she for real?
She glanced at Kelechi and Flora who also looked confused themselves.
"Are mad or just plain stupid? Please get out." Sonia's deadpanned look made all features of amusement wash out of her face.
"Are you seriously going to take what those girls tell you to heart? I mean it's in the past, let's just skip it and continue being friends."
Ogini?
She was surprised of what came out of Amaka's mouth. Honestly, was she even reasoning at all. Skip it and be friends? Was she alright in the head.
"Amaka one question or rather two questions." Sonia paused. "Where you ever going to tell me and how did it feel lying to my face when you knew the truth?"
"I didn't think it was necessary," Amaka stood up from the bed and walked over to Sonia. "But now you've found out, let's just put this behind us and continue being friends."
Amaka reached out to touch Sonia's hands but Sonia gave her a resounding slap.
"Just get out! Before I do something you might not like."
"Sonia is it me you're treating like this you're best fri-" Sonia landed her another slap before she could complete her sentence, this time catching her off guard as she fell down on the floor.
"If the word friend comes out from your mouth again, I swear I'll do much more than this, now I'll say it again. GET THE FUCK OUT OF THIS ROOM."
"Sonia so you're just going to throw away our friendship because of something so little-"
Sonia ran towards Amaka and pounced on her, slapping her and scratching her face.
Flora wanted to intervene but Kelechi stopped her. "Let her biko, it's not like she'll kill her."
And truly Sonia didn't actually kill her, she just scratched her face. When Sonia was done, Amaka held her face crying as she left the room.
Big for nothing idiot!
Sonia exclaimed internally as she went back to her position on the bed.
She couldn't believe those words actually came out of Amaka's mouth, so she didn't even care about her?
All the people she always end up trusting always do these things, they always end up betraying her, or is she indirectly paying for her fathers crimes? She thought as she starred at the bulb on the ceiling.
She looked over to Kelechi and Flora who sat on their beds starring at her.
She thought about everything that has been happening in her life till this moment before she drifted into nothingness.
