"That's all for today you might now leave." Our tutor said to us as she picked up her higher education notes and left.

We just finished our lessons for the competitions. The competition is starting next week Thursday that's the week after our mid term exams. The lessons are also a way to help us prepare for mid terms in some sort of way.

I grabbed my bag and was about to head towards the door but a hand stopped me.

I then remembered the plan and everything we talked about yesterday. I still can't believe that was his plan, but let's just hope it works.

"So is everything in place for the plan?" He asked amusingly.

"Yeah I texted Flora to meet me on the staircase in the next 10 minutes. And if this plan doesn't work I'll so kill you." He broke into laughter.

"I hope it's not with those your tiny hands that you want to kill me." He broke into another hearty laughter and I had no choice but to join him.

"But seriously though I hope this works."

"It will trust me."

"If you say so." He took my hand in his as we walked through the hallway but not without students looking at us and whispering about us not so silently.

Nawa for some ofย  you sha.

The whispering stopped once we reached the staircase Flora was supposed to meet me. The staircase was scanty because most of the students were in cafeteria.

"So... I just texted Dexter and he'll be here in 2 minutes. Remember the plan." With that he took off.

I just stood there waiting for Flora.

I brought out my phone to keep myself busy when I figured she'll not be here anytime soon. I was about to check a snap somebody sent me when I heard footsteps.

I quickly switched off the phone to embrace Flora's arrival, but instead of her I met with another person. Someone that I didn't want to see anytime soon.

She took slow strides on each step until she was close and facing me. Her eyes screamed danger and hatred.

"Do you know that you and that your boyfriend are very foolish." She started reigning insults. And what does she mean my boyfriend?

"Are you guys sick in the head? You're trying to set her up with a guy that raped her!" She screamed at my face. I indicated with my lips for her to keep shut.

"Florence, we aren't trying to do anything bad, we just want Dexter and Flora to make up." I explained but she just let out a dry sarcastic laugh.

"Sonia," she stepped closer to me. "So you're telling me that a bad luck charm like you who makes everybody's life miserable is trying to make things right?" She asked it like a question, mockingly if I may add.

"Please I beg of you in the name of whatever you serve stay away from my sister. She doesn't need a influence like you in her life." She took a step back and looked me in my eyes like this is the final warning she'll ever give me.

"And you shouldn't waste your time here Flora isn't coming, I was with her phone when you sent the text so she doesn't have any idea who sent the text."

My mouth literally opened. So our plan didn't even have a chance to work out.

She eyed me like dirt one last time before walking away. I stood there still dumbfounded thinking of what I did to deserve this, I was only trying to help my friend.

I heard footsteps coming and saw Dexter walking towards me. And that's when I remembered the purpose of inviting him here.

"Sonia what's up? Derrick said you wanted to see me." He asked immediately he came to me.

My brain started thinking of excuses I could tell him that he's not needed here again and I said the only thing that came to mind.

"Ummm... You know what, I only called you because of something like that which I can't remember but stay safe and drink water." I added with a smile which seemed cringe because of the way he looked at me.

I took off before he could say anything else, not even sparing him a backward glance.

I ran and met Derrick in the cafeteria sitting beside Desmond eating a plate of spaghetti. This boy has mind oh, so he made go on a death and life mission and he his here eating food. If he doesn't choke on that food ehn, then my village people are liars.

I stormed to his table, trying to hide the annoyance on my face. Sensing someone was around, he looked up and met my eyes.

"Oh hi, how did the meeting go?" He asked with curiosity on his face.

"The only meeting that happened was the one in your village o." I replied sassily which earned a confused look from him and a 'I'm lost here' look from Desmond.

"What happened?" Derrick asked looking much more confused.

"Well, your plan didn't work that's one and another one is that I've been insulted so we can all move on."

He stood up from his chair and signalled for me to follow him for a little bit of privacy.

We got to the hallway with less more prying ears and continued the conversation there.

"Can you please explain to me what's going on."

"Flora didn't come, Florence did." I just went straight to the point, not saying too many words cause this situation is giving me a headache.

"As how na? You texted Flora and she said she'll come na, what do you mean Florence came?"

"Well, it turns out the plan was never even going to work out in the first place, because Florence was with Flora's phone when I sent the text and she even thinks that Dexter raped her and we're trying to bring her together with her rapist." I said.

"Bro this is so fucked up." He ran his hand over his face exasperatedly.

"Well, it's no problem I'll just think of a new plan..." The bombastic side eye I gave didn't allow him to finish his sentence.

"Derrick don't allow me to swear for you. Flora and Dexter can handle this on their own, you're not Batman or Superman, they'll handle it by themselves and if Dexter is truly sorry for what he did he'll apologize to her. Simple and short."

The expression on his face after I finished talking was so amusing that I started laughing.

"Why is your face like that?" I asked in between fits of laughter.

"Nothing, I'm just surprised that a whole new Sonia can say all these things. I'm actually happy for you, look at you coming out of your shell." He replied.

"Coming out of my shell how?" I queried him.

"I mean, the Sonia who came to this school on her first day was so timid and quiet, now look at you spreading your wings like a butterfly." He added with a teasing smirk.

"It's not only butterfly." I laughed. "But on a serious note leave Dexter and Flora I'm sure they could handle this."

The bell rang signalling the end of break period and students began trooping into the once deserted hallway. And of course once they saw both of us the murmuring started.

"Can we please leave? We have Maths now." I said to him.

He nodded his head and we went upstairs. I just wanted to be away from that place, Maths has never been my favorite subject but that doesn't mean I'm horrible at it.

We went to the classroom and settled down waiting for the teacher to come and get this over with. He came two minutes later and the class started.

โœฐโœฐโœฐโœฐโœฐ

The bell signaling the last period and as well as school is over rang and everyone jumped in jubilation. They didn't even wait for the teacher to complete his sentence.

I carried my bag and was about to leave when the man stopped us.

"If you know you're a part of the upcoming competition please the counsellor wants to see you." He said before leaving the classroom.

Displeased groans were heard from students, well mostly those part of the competition.

"Only God knows what this woman wants, with that her outdated wig and breaking lipstick." A member of my class said and her friends started laughing.

I wasn't aware there was even a counsellor in this school. I guess this would be my first time seeing her.

"Hey Sonia come with us." Zainab said pulling me out of my thoughts as she dragged me and some others part of the competition to the principal's office.

We knocked on the door and a voice told us to hold on. As we held on Zainab was busy talking to others, socializing and laughing with them while I stood like the odd one out.

But all that changed when Victor walked in with his aura and defined steeze causing Zainab's whole mood to change. Everyone greeted him except Zainab and I.

I still don't get the history the both of them have.

Mrs Chinaza opened the door telling us to come in. I grabbed my bag with me and went inside.

The Blood of Jesus!

Those were my exact words as I entered the room and saw a sponge on the woman's head. Was that supposed to be a wig?

Don't even get me started on her lipstick that's not even complete on her lips and the way she pancaked her face to stupor, in this heat!

Let me not even mention her outfit, only God knows what she wore.

"Good afternoon beautiful students. My lovely children." She said to us with a smile on her face.

I'm so cringing right now.

"Who is your child here? Madam better respect yourself o and say what you want to say let us leave biko." The girl from earlier said in a hushed tone causing people to stifle their laughter, including me.

"I just want to say I and the school are proud of you all and we hope you make the school proud." She smiled at us showing us her smeared lips.

"Can we please go now?" The girl asked with a bored expression on her face.

"Kelechi my child we-"

"Ma please I would like to go home and so do others we've all had a long day." Kelechi cut the woman's sentence short.

"Okay you may all go." She finally released us.

As we left I felt like I could finally breathe again, that woman's presence was just so suffocating.

"If I swear for this woman they'll now say Kelechi likes to overdo, but her that called us for that small thing, something as irrelevant as that. As if that's not worse she called us her children!" Kelechi ranted, making hand gestures at everything.

"Hold on a minute, didn't you guys notice Flora hasn't been in school and she wasn't also in the meeting." Zainab pointed out.

That's when realisation hit me that eversince the text I sent I've not really seen her around.

"See her friend na, ask her she might know something." Kelechi made me the center of attention to the rest, expecting an answer from me.

I didn't want them to think I didn't know anything about her whereabouts, so I said what I had too.

"She's just sick." I replied casually.

They all looked at me for a long time before nodding their heads.

I checked the time and it was already late so I picked my bag and started heading off home.

On my way I heard someone call my name and I looked around to see Derrick in a black Mercedes SUV waving at me.

"Let me drop you off na." He said as soon as I got to him.

"Before you drop me off, can you please take me to Flora's house?" I asked.

"I don't think that's a good idea, considering what recently happened between you and Florence." He replied and I looked at him head to toe."

"Abeg I want to see my friend, who Florence help."

Derrick looked at me shocked, but later succumbed and agreed to drop me there.

The engine of the car started and we drove off.
