I stood at the door to her room contemplating for the umpteenth time whether to knock or just go in.

It has been two days since the incident, she refused to come out. I got worried when the chef told me she hasn't been eating her food. She also refused to come to school.

I couldn't help but feel like all of this was my fault. I should have been a big brother to her and protect her from that beast.

The fear I had for him ever since what he did to mum three years ago wouldn't let me help her. But now I've made up my mind to fight for her even though fear is still instilled in me.

She doesn't deserve any of these. The useless man hasn't been home since the incident happened. Such a coward.

"Look who's talking." My subconscious chided.

I shook the voice out and took a deep breath before proceeding to knock on the door. I knocked on the door once waiting for a reply but none came, taking another breath I knock twice, thrice unto several times but the door didn't open.

I turned the door knob realizing the door wasn't locked. I slowly stepped into Daphne's lavender themed colored room and what I saw next made me dumbfounded.

My sister was on a boys laps straddling him, the boy didn't look like Daphne's age mate. He looked about three to four years older. He didn't look like he attended KIHS.

The so called boy lifted my sisters chin up and planted a kiss on her lips. My blood boiled at the gesture. Who the fuck does this guy thinks he is? Coming to this house to kiss my sister.

I angrily walked up to them and grabbed the guy from her, landing him a punch on his face. I heard Daphne screech but I didn't care. I'm bound to teach this guy a lesson.

"How dare you come to this house and try kissing my sister." I landed another punch on the guy's face.

"Derrick stop it!" My sister screamed. "What the hell is wrong with you? Leave him alone!"

I slowly dropped the guy on the floor with a loud thud. I've never seen my sister so infuriated before.

"Let's talk outside now, shall we?" Daphne opened the door gesturing for me to follow her. I took a last glance at the guy on the floor before heading out.

On getting there I met Daphne with her hands crossed on her chest.

"What was all that about?" She asked me with her hands still crossed on her chest.

"I supposed to be asking you that, what is a boy who is older than you in your room kissing you?" I retorted back, Daphne is barely thirteen years old I'm disturbed to see a guy in her room.

"He was only comforting me about the incident." She laid emphasis on the last word. I suddenly felt guilty all of a sudden, instead of me reaching out to my sister the day she ran I was at the park smoking weed?."

I'm really a bad brother.

"And by comforting you mean kissing and touching right?"

"IT'S NONE OF YOUR FUCKING BUSINESS CHIBUIKE!"

I cringed at how my own little sister used the f word and how she said my native name. Does she really hate me that much now?

"Whenever dad hits me you don't do anything but if it's to hit a boy you see in my room you can do that one."

I just stood there, hurt by her words.

"Please just leave me alone if you can't help my situation." Tears were now welling up in her eyes.

She banged the door shut and clicked the lock. I sighed in frustration and loneliness, I can't believe my sister now hates my guts. I should have been a better brother.

Just then, my phone rang in the pocket of my grey sweatpants. I grabbed the phone in my pocket and hissed when I saw the caller ID. Empress was calling.

I even forgot I asked her to meet up to discuss about Sonia's situation at the party.

I picked the call when she didn't give up calling even though I ignored it a lot of times.

"Hello Derrick boo I'm at the door. You don't want to keep me waiting now do you?" Her whole voice came out sultry.

I rolled my eyes and cut the call, not bothering to say anything to her. I descended the stairs and got to the living room. I opened the door immediately and Empress' full body view came in face with me.

She had on a crop top with baggy shorts and a pair of black crocs on her feet.

"Come in." I said, ignoring her greetings.

Just then, my sister and that guy from earlier descended the stairs. He whispered something to her that made her giggle. Seeing them made me some what jealous. I am the one that should be making her laugh not him.

They both stopped midway at the last staircase and looked at us. Immediately my sister fixed her gaze at Empress, she let out a deadly hiss.

Did I ever mention that my sister and Empress never got along? Well now you know. They always have unnecessary fights whenever they are around each other.

"Daniel you may leave now." Daphne escorted him to the door and closed the door with a bang when he left.

"What is this mami water doing here? I thought she was out of your life." I almost laughed at how my sister referred to Empress as mami water.

"See this cockroach, I hope it's not me that you're calling mami water." Empress retorted back. She already packed her hair in a bun and removed her crocs.

"Isn't it the truth? You've been the one poisoning my brothers mind with your juju. That's why ever since he left you he has started having sense."

Ouch.

It's the way they aren't even acknowledging my presence amongst them for me.

"It's not your fault, it's my own. If I wasn't in your house you won't dare open your mouth to say all this nonsensical nonsense to me." Empress was now already moving closer to her while my sister was just there with her hands crossed.

You know they say that a man should never involve himself in women's fight but I'm about to do it anyway.

"That's enough the both of you!" I said sternly and stood in between the both of them.

"Daphne if you would excuse me, I invited Empress over so we could talk about something important."

"Important ni importation ko." Daphne hissed before heading for the stairs. Her flip flops slapping the tiled floor as she went along.

"See warn your sister." Empress said behind me, I almost forgot she was standing there for a moment.

"Why did you send that guy to rape Sonia?" I asked straight to the point. Ignoring her about warning my sister.

Immediately I said those words her face fell, like she was disappointed or something.

"Did you seriously invite me over to talk about that useless thing."

"She has more importance than you do. So answer the question why did you send someone to rape her?" Empress looked like she would commit suicide any minute from now. But I couldn't care less, I just want to get to the bottom of all this.

She exhaled before she spoke, "Well if you must know Florence was the one that told the guy to rape her not me."

I let out mirthless chuckle. Florence couldn't even hurt a fly.

"We both know Florence can't do something like that." I voiced out. Empress just looked at me and shook her head in pity.

"You might all think I'm the bad one here but I'm really not."

"Derrick I love you, and I must advice you to stay away from Sonia she's only going to kill you before your time."

"I don't fucking love you Empress! Get that into your thick skull. And nothing you do or say will make me leave Sonia for you."

Tears were already welling up in her eyes. My heart broke watching her look so sad. I remembered all those times I would comfort her whenever she cries because her parents reminded her she's a failed daughter.

I almost succumbed and hugged her. But I held myself in place.

"I think you should leave Empress." I told her and she didn't even glance back before she stormed out of the house.

I sat on one of the couches nearby thinking of how my life is a terrible mess.

My sister almost got raped.

The girl I can't get out of my mind got raped.

I have a beast as a father.

My sister now hates me.

My mum died because I couldn't do anything.

My sister...

I kept on thinking about things that happened in my life before darkness finally engulfed me.
