"I don't see the point in you worrying about it Takashi, it's not like it's going to fix anything.", Adam said calmly as his roommate bashed his head on the desk rhythmically.

Slamming his head down on the desk a final time for emphasis, Shiro groaned loudly, "It's easy for you to say... you've never had a crush on anyone.", he fired back miffed, "The only thing you'll ever come close to loving is your books. You're practically glued to those things."

Shiro's head rested against the metal desk as he his words came out slightly muffled by the stack of unorganized papers.
Pencils, wadded paper and eraser shavings lay littered on the floor around him as Adam shook his head in slight annoyance, his focus still on his assignment.

"Ughhhhhhhhhhhhh...", Shiro groaned while dramatically sinking further into the cluttered desk, "If only I actually had someone to talk to about this... someone who isn't a boring rock that just wants to read his life away."

After a long moment, Adam then peered at him over the rim of his book and glasses, "Neither of those statements are true. Both me having no interest in anyone and only reading books."

"Righhhhht.", Shiro rolled his eyes, finally lifting his head, "C'mon Adam, I've never seen you flirt or show any interest with girls! And you're always reading something— for fun! It's not even required... who does that?"

"Me.", he adjusted his glasses while raising an eyebrow, "Reading is not that bad. Maybe you should take a break from those comics of yours and read some real literature for once."

Shiro laughed, "I have Adam! We were both forced to read those classics and write an essay on it... I think I've had my fair share of it already.
Plus, why read some old stuff when you can read and see cool stories with pictures about galaxy bounty hunters and aliens! You should be the one trying out comics instead of trying to convince me to read 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea."

He gave Shiro a long look before letting out a sigh of his own, "You really are something Takashi..."

Shiro shrugged, "Well someone's got to get you out of your shell, you act like you're thirty or something when you're only 15.
I mean we already work hard on the drills, tests and stuff. This is the time when you should let yourself have fun! Take stupid risks! You barely ever get out of your comfort zone!", he said grabbing his friend's shoulder.

Adam dropped his book by the sudden hold and looked at him, "Why do I need to? There's no reason for me to risk breaking or fracturing something just because you want to have fun.
I like reading and playing it safe. There's enough risk in flying a jet, especially in a team formation."

"Because we're going to do something fun, that's why!", Shiro said enthusiastically, tightening his grip, "And I know you'll like it.. we'll go viewing the rare comet showerrrrr..."

He looked at Shiro uncomfortably, "I don't know..."

"Please?? It'll be a blast, I promise! Besides, we both have been the best behaved in this school, so we should let ourselves have one prank slash sneak-out!"

"Prank?", he repeated before running a hand over his face, "Jeez, Takashi... what goes on through that head of yours?"

Shiro rubbed the older boy's hair, "Inspiration, that's what. Like I said, you need to break loose already, so I've been thinking of something for a bit that'll be fun and hilarious! So you're doing this!"

He looked at Shiro and felt himself getting annoyed as his eyes shone with joy and mischief back at him, practically begging him to tag along.
He should really just say no... but there were multiple reasons why he didn't want to despite his better judgement.

Adam groaned and looked at the clock, biting his lip, knowing he probably would regret his decision, "Fine— but I'm only doing this because of the meteorite shower.", he relented getting out of Shiro's hold while running a hand through his mussed hair.

Shiro beamed at him and pumped his fist, "Yes!! I knew you'd be in!", he then hugged Adam tightly, "Get ready for the night of your life!"

"It better be well worth it Takashi... we're going to have to sneak off school grounds and take the hover-bikes if we want to catch the shower.
If we get caught, we'll be in a lot of trouble.", he reminded, "So don't go thinking this sneak-out is going to be easy peasy."

Shiro winked at him while doing a thumbs up, "Don't worry, I already got that covered, well the bikes at least. I can't guarantee we won't be caught of course, but Adam, don't you think it'll be worth it once you see the shower?"

He crossed his arms, "It depends..."

"Well I don't care how vivid your imagination is for those books, all I know is that you can't get the actual thing from one.
So like I said, it'll be worth it. Life is worth taking risks for."

Adam felt himself heat up a little as his words settled in and his roommate became and looked more serious and mature.
Shiro could be the stupidly smart fun guy and goofball when he wanted to be, but he could also speak wisdom that was beyond his years at the most random times. It was what made Takashi Shirogane.., Shiro.

He stared at him for a moment as he felt his feelings grow more for the boy in front of him.

Something Adam would've never guessed to happen, was that he would fall in love with someone like Shiro. It was annoying in the best way possible feeling that way for someone else... but it was also hard when you didn't know if he was into guys the same as you apparently were.

He had planned to spend his life in his work... he had never really felt attraction to anyone. And he was okay with that.
Or he thought he had been, until of course, Shiro came into his life with his golden personality.

Adam finally looked away, picking the fallen book off the floor and putting it back on the bottom bunk bed, "The only problem here is when life decides to throw the risks at you... there's too much instability already...
I just want to make sure we are careful if we're doing this."

Shiro smiled, "You worry too much Adam... it'll be fine, alright? It'll be a fun night out— you'll see."

"Okay, I'll put aside my worrying for later then.", he smiled back, "But if something happens don't say I didn't try to stop you."

He nodded seriously before breaking out into a good natured laugh, "If things really go down, by all means you have the right to say 'I told you so', but I think we'll be fine!"

Shiro then wrapped his arm around his shoulders again, grinning broadly and staring at him expectantly.

"Uhh... What? Why are you looking at me like that?", Adam asked confused as Shiro's smile went even wider.

"So you said both things aren't true... so that got me thinking. Who's the lucky person you like? Do they even know Adam?"

"Wha-? Person?", Adam's face was now definitely colored with embarrassment, "I— where is this even coming from Takashi!?", he stuttered.

"It's kinda how this whole conversation started, remember? I'm just circling back now.", he answered, "And I'm guessing by your reaction you weren't lying about liking someone.", he smirked.

Adam crossed his arms and looked away from him grumpily, trying to pull himself together, "Well what about you? You apparently can't figure out how to talk to your crush either."

"You'd be surprised... I'm able to talk to them quite easily and frequently."

Adam felt his heart sink, thinking of all the friends that surrounded Shiro. It could be anyone of them.
Not just anyone... but a special someone. And it wasn't Adam, that was for sure.

He pushed down the ache and ignored the pit in his stomach, making himself be supportive for his friend, "It's not that nice girl who's been in our pre-calculus class is it? Jasmine, right? You've been hanging out a lot at study group with her."

Shiro shook his head, "Nope... I'm not interested in her. Nice try tho'.
I'll tell you later once we head out... but I'll give you a hint, I'm not really into girls."

Not into girls? Adam felt a spark of hope, but then his mind darted to all the other guys in their class and stomped it out.

"Uhh you alright there Adam?", Shiro asked his face concerned, before completely falling, "Wait... you don't like people like me do you..? You can just.. you can say so if you don't like it. I shouldn't have said anythi-,"

"No! That's not it! I've never been into girls either...", he choked out before his mind could catch up to what he had just said.

Shiro looked at him, "Really?", then brightening he grabbed Adam's shoulders, "That's awesome!!"

"Yup!", Adam grinned forcefully, hating himself internally for saying that out loud.

"So who is it?? I got to know!", his roommate pressed right as the bell rang, ending their break.

Removing himself gently from Shiro's hold again, he headed for the door apologetically, "Oops... well it looks like we got to head back now! Maybe I'll tell you who it is someday... but for now, our history test is waiting!", he said quickly as they made their way of of the Garrison quarters and walked swiftly through the halls.

Shiro sped his pace up to even up with him, "Alright, fair enough! Just remember that life is not worth living without a couple of risks though!", he called running down the halls now.

"H-hey! Takashi!!", Adam tried to walk faster, but finally gave in and ran after him, "Wait for me!"

"Last one to class is a moldy smelly book!!", he laughed, sticking out his tongue.

Adam put on another burst of speed, the rule for no running completely disappearing from his mind as he grinned, "I wouldn't be so confident in winning Takashi!"
