Makena walked over to Sam as he was the one flying the jet. "Drop to 2600, heading 0-3-0." She said.

"I hope you're right about this. Or were gonna land a lot faster than you want to." Sam replied, doing as told. "I'm always right," Makena mumbled.

"Not when it comes to your feelings," Nat mumbled under her breath but Makena heard it anyways. She chose to ignore it but the comment did annoy her.

T'Challa and Okoye, along with the Dora Milaje, walked over to the landing pad as the Avengers, plus Makena arrived. "When you said we were going to open Wakanda to the rest of the world, this is not what I imagined." Okoye spoke.

"And what did you imagine?" T'Challa asked.

"The Olympics. Maybe even a Starbucks."

The jet landed and the ramp lowered. Makena was the first to walk out, a smile grazed her features as she seen T'Challa. Makena ran over and wrapped her arms around the king with a smile. T'Challa smiled widely as he embraced her back. "It is so good to see you again, Makena. Shuri will be so happy to see you," T'Challa spoke.

Makena smiled as she pulled away, "It's good to see you too. Let's hope she doesn't try to kill me."

Makena backed up and sent a smile to Okoye who returned it. The rest of the Avengers walked out of the jet, having let Makena talk to the King first.

"Should we bow?" Bruce asked Rhodey as he slipped on a coat.

"Yeah, he's a king," Rhodey replied.

"Seems like I'm always thanking you for something." Steve said, shaking T'Challa's hand.

They glanced over to see Bruce clear his throat and awkwardly bow. Making Rhodey look at him funny, "What are you doing?"

T'Challa looked at him in slight confusion and amusement and Makena had to hide her laugh. "We don't do that here," T'Challa stated. Bruce looked at Rhodey who smirked in amusement at the little joke he played on Banner.

"So how big of an assault should we expect?" T'Challa asked as they began walked, Makena on his left, fiddling nervously with her hands.

"Sir, I think you should expect quite a big assault," Banner cut in.

"How we lookin?" Makena asked, referring to their defenses.

"You will have my Kingsguard, the Border Tribe, the Dora Milaje, and," T'Challa finished his sentence by gesturing to Bucky Barnes who had made his way over. "And a semi-stable 100 year-old man." Bucky finished.

Steve grinned and embraced his friend. "How you been, Buck?"

"Uh not bad, for the end of the world." Bucky glanced over at Makena and they both shared a smile to each other.

"Where's Shuri?" Makena asked, Nat smirked to herself, so ready to tease Makena about this later.

"Inside, 12th floor. Go on she's waiting," T'Challa said, small smile on his face.

As Makena went to run off Nat grabbed her wrist, "Can I come too?" Nat smiled. Makena groaned and nodded, already knowing Nat was gonna embarrass her.

"Let's see if you can catch up first old lady," Makena laughed and ran into the building. Nat rolled her eyes and ran after her.

Makena waited impatiently as they elevator went to the 12th floor. "Don't be so impatient, it's been two seconds," Nat said.

When it finally opened Makena walked out and turned the corner. Shuri was at a table and turned around, having gotten a message from her kimoyo Beads that Makena was in the building. Shuri squealed excitedly and ran over, immediately embracing Makena who hugged her back with just as much force.

Nat smirked to herself, "Yelena would've loved to see this." She mumbled under her breath.

"Oh my god. I'm going to kill you! How dare you turn off your beads! You had me worried sick! I thought you killed yourself. You're lucky I sent T'Challa to check on you," Shuri scolded as she pulled away.

Makena couldn't hide her smile of amusement. "Don't smile at me! I almost went over there myself! You're so lucky I don't kill you right now!" Nat raised her brows, not expecting Shuri to have been so upset with Makena, but it's Makena so not a shocker there.

"Oh come on, just admit you missed me baby," Makena smirked. Shuri rolled her eyes but couldn't help get suddenly flustered by the pet name. "I'll admit it when you admit leaving was a horrible idea. Look at you, your hair is a mess, your makeup somehow managed to get worse, and you came running back after that crazy attack in New York. I was right, leaving was a horrible idea."

Makena rolled her eyes, "Don't roll your eyes at me. Is it so hard to admit you were wrong?" Shuri scolded. None of them noticing that the avengers and T'Challa, and Okoye were already out of the elevator watching everything unfold. (not including sam and rhodey)

Makena let out a dramatic sigh, "Okay fine. You were right and I was wrong. Happy now?"

"Finish the rest."

"You were right and I was wrong. You're the smartest person in the world and I need to stop being so cocky or it'll keep fueling my ego. There, happy?" Makena raised a brow.

"Very," Shuri smiled.

Okoye cleared her throat, "Are you done?" She questioned. Makena and Shuri awkwardly took a few steps back from each other and nodded.

"That was such a cute little reunion, wasn't it Steve?" Nat chuckled and Steve also let a out little laugh. "So is she like Makena's girlfriend or something?" Bruce asked, confused at to the relationship between Makena and Shuri.

"What? No!" Shuri and Makena both exclaimed at the same time.

"They don't like when people ask about their relationship," T'Challa informed.

Makena stood next to Shuri watching closely as Shuri scanned Vision with her Kimoyo Beads. "The structure is polymorphic." Shuri said, looking at the hologram of the stone coming from her bracelet.

"Right, we have to attach each neuron non-sequentially," Bruce said.

"Why didn't you just reprogram the synapses to work collectively?" Shuri asked, as it was the easiest thing in the world, well to her.

"Because, we didn't think of it," Bruce said, a bit shocked that she knew so much for her young age.

"I'm sure you did your best," Shuri responded with a cocky smile. "That's my girl," Makena grinned proudly and Shuri blushed.

"Can you do it?" Wanda asked impatiently, trying to get back on topic.

"Yes, but there are more than two trillion neurons here. One misalignment could cause a cascade of circuit failures." Shuri explained before looking to T'Challa. "It will take time, brother," Shuri informed and he nodded.

"How long?" Steve asked.

"As long as you can give me."

They were interrupted by some beeping and Okoye held out her hand, a Kimoyo Bead it in, pulling up a hologram of earth. "Something's entered the atmosphere."

Everyone turned over to look through the windows, seeing Thanos's army clearly arrive in their ships. "It's too late. We need to destroy the stone now." Vision said.

"Vision, get your ass back on the table," Nat said. "We will hold them off," T'Challa reassured.

"Wanda, as soon as that stone's out of his head, you blow it to hell," Steve said.

"I will."

"Evacuate the city. Engage all defenses. And get this man a shield," T'Challa ordered.

"Kena, we're gonna need you down there," Nat said. Makena glanced at Nat, already having made her decision to stay up there with Shuri. "I can't, you'll be fine without me."

"Kena, I get you wanna protect your girlfriend but we could really use you down here," Makena heard Sam say though the coms. Makena rolled her eyes, not even bothering to correct him. "You'll be alright. I need to stay and protect her," Makena said, making sure Sam heard on coms.

"She doesn't need protection but she is flattered anyway," Shuri added, having heard the conversation and smiled when Makena glanced over her shoulder to look at her. "Didn't I almost get myself killed for you when you were about to be stabbed?" Makena smirked knowingly and Shuri glared at her playfully.

"How long are you going to milk that?" Nat questioned in amusement.

"For as long as I have a mouth," Makena replied with a smile.

Makena walked back over to the windows, watching as everyone gathered on the field. Makena smiled seeing M'Baku out there with the rest of the Jabari army. "Have you kept in contact with him?" Shuri asked, getting to work on what she needed to do to help Vision.

"Nah, but he gets my messages from the Dora."

"Why did you turn your beads off?"

Makena crossed her arms over her chest and turned to look at Shuri. Vision just awkwardly laid there listening to the conversation. Wanda was there as well but she was just zoned out. "I can't exactly tell you that."

Shuri scoffed, "You can, you just don't want to. Why? Are you scared? Are you hiding something?" Shuri argued, turning back to look at her work as Makena glanced down at the floor.

"I'm not scared of shit," Makena lied. Wanda hummed, already sensing the lie from Makena and she shot her a knowing look which Makena ignored.

"You've always been such a terrible liar. Tell me what you are hiding from me. If there's something going on I can help you! Just let me help you," Shuri said. Vision and Wanda shared a look, both feeling the tension in the room.

Makena shook her head, "The thing I'm hiding is something you can't help with."

"How do we know that? You don't tell me anything!"

"Oh am I supposed to, Shuri? I'm supposed to tell you every little thing going on in my life?"

"No but you could at least tell me the important stuff."

"What important stuff, Shuri? What, my feelings? You want to know how I'm feeling? How I'm grieving? If there's anyone I've been with? Because if you want to know these things so much then just ask me!" Makena exclaimed.

Shuri looked away from her work and to Makena, holding in her tears and Wanda couldn't help but somewhat feel bad for the girl. It was obvious to her that Shuri was in love with Makena but was scared to tell her, unsure if it would affect their relationship at all.

"Fine, I will ask you. Why did you leave Wakanda? And I don't want to hear some bullshit excuse about you just wanting to go home. You have no home there, you told me yourself. You said that night that Wakanda was your home. And you left your home anyways. Why?" Shuri asked, unknowingly to them, T'Challa and Okoye could also hear the conversation through coms as they weren't turned off by Shuri.

"Makena if you don't hurry up and tell her what she asked I will go up there and impale you to the wall," Okoye said. Shuri and Makena's eyes widened, "Yes we can hear you. Turn your coms down." T'Challa spoke. Shuri rolled her eyes and turned her com mic down quickly.

"You really wanna know why I left?" Makena asked, making sure that Shuri was a hundred percent ready for the truth.

Shuri nodded, turning to look at her. "I left Wakanda because the closer we got the more I fell for you. Okay? And I don't do feelings, I don't do emotions, and I definitely don't do relationships so you can imagine that I was scared of that. So I thought, maybe if left then they would go away. That I would be able to get over you. But, that clearly did nothing because the longer I was gone the more I missed you. So there, Shuri. That's the reason I left. Happy now?"

Makena walked out, completely forgetting how she was only up there to protect Shuri.

Makena ran out onto the field, standing next to Nat and Steve. "Thought you were staying to protect lover girl?"

"She made it clear she can protect herself," Makena mumbled. She glanced over to T'Challa on her right who had spoke, "We open the barrier. On my signal, open North-West Section Seventeen."

"Requesting confirmation, My King. You said open the barrier?" Makena looked down hearing Shuri's voice come through coms. "On my signal."

"This will be the end of Wakanda," Makena heard M'Baku say.

"Then it will be the noblest ending in history," Okoye replied.

T'Challa stepped forward, saying something in Xhosa to which they put their shields down. "Wakanda Forever!"

"Wakanda Forever!" Everyone repeated, including Makena.

Everyone charged forward, the barrier opening and they fought the space dogs or whatever the hell they were. Makena grabbed her gun, shooting at the ones who tried coming towards her. Makena pulled out her spear, stabbing it into one's head. Blood splattered on her face and she grimaced, pulling the spear out and wiping her face with her sleeve. "Oh god I'm gonna be sick."

Makena turned to see one of the space dogs had jumped on Bucky and his gun was thrown on the ground, out of reach. Makena threw out her hand and sent it flying in the air before shooting three bullets into it, killing it. Makena looked at Bucky who gave her a thumbs up, "Thanks."

Makena was suddenly jumped on, four of the things trying to claw at her, luckily her suit was made of vibranium, courtesy of Shuri. Then suddenly, she felt the ground shake and some kind of colorful light hit her eyes. Seconds later, an axe swung over her, throwing off each of the things. Makena let out a breath and stood back up to her feet.

A sigh of relief left her mouth seeing Thor, a new axe, along with some kind of tree man and a raccoon with a gun. Bruce's helmet from one of Tony's old suits came off and he laughed, "You guys are so screwed now!"

"Bring me, Thanos!" Makena heard Thor yell before running forward. The tree and raccoon charging forward as well. Thor had flew up, lightning everyone and sparkling in his eyes as he landed, the axe being sent into the ground with lighting electrocuted the dog things.

"Okay that was the coolest thing I've ever seen. Holy shit." Makena expressed.

As Makena was distracted she was tackled down again. "I am sick of being bitched around by you mother fuckers." Makena threw her hand out, throwing the dog into three more and throwing her spear into it as the raccoon shot the others. "How much for the spear?" The raccoon asked as the spear came back into Makena's hand.

"Not for sale buddy," Makena said before running off to help M'Baku. "Oh I'll get that spear," Rocket chuckled to himself menacingly.

Makena shot out her hand, sending her spear into the space dog that had went to jump on M'Baku. Makena ran over, the spear coming back into her hand. "And I thought you were the one supposed to be doing the protecting," Makena stuck out her hand, letting M'Baku take it and she pulled him up.

"Don't tell my kids you saved me," M'Baku said. Makena chuckled and went back to fighting, using her spear to impale three together. She glanced over seeing the raccoon and Bucky shooting down the dogs as Bucky held him up his his vibranium arm. "How much for the gun?"

"Not for sale."

"Okay. How much for the arm?" Makena chuckled and shook her head in amusement, what was with this raccoon and wanting to buy people's weapons. Bucky just looked at him before walking away. "Oh, I'll get that arm."

Makena threw her spear into the dog that ran at Natasha. "I didn't want your help," Nat mused as Makena walked towards her, the spear coming back to her hand.

"And somehow you always need it," Makena shot back with a smirk. But then they noticed a huge machine type thing that was rolling dangerously towards them. "Damn, I'm not ready to die," Makena whined.

Fortunately for them, Wanda landed in front of them, using her powers to send the machine into the space dogs instead. "Why was she up there all this time?" Okoye questioned.

Makena chuckled but noticed two men falling off the building that Shuri was in. One of the men being Vision. "Shuri," Makena breathed out. "Go!" Nat said. Makena nodded and ran off towards the building. Makena knew she wouldn't get there in enough time if anything did happen to Shuri.

"Okay, just breathe. You can do this. Wanda taught you, you studied it. You've practiced this. Now is the time you do it," Makena spoke to herself. "Just do it!" Wanda encouraged.

Makena whined and took a breath before closing her eyes and thinking about Shuri. "Focus." Makena's body raised from the ground and she found herself actually flying up to the building. "Yes! That's my girl," Nat grinned proudly.

Makena landed inside the building through the broken window and immediately spotted Shuri. Makena ran over and kneeled down next to her. Makena swiped all the glass away from her face and lifted Shuri's head onto her lap. "Hey, baby, I need you to wake up. Come on. Wake up," Makena said, gently tapping Shuri's face.

Shuri woke up slowly, looking around in confusion. "What happened? Is Vision okay?" Shuri asked. Makena nodded and Shuri sat up straighter. "Yeah don't worry they're taking care of it. Are you okay? Are you hurt?" Makena asked worriedly.

"I'm okay." Shuri breathed out, laying her head on Makena's shoulder.

Makena and Shuri shared a look seeing a yellow blast from the trees. "She did it. She destroyed the stone. And Vision." Makena mumbled in shock.

"So Thanos lost? We won?" Shuri asked.

"I don't think so," Makena watched in disbelief as the same surge of energy was somehow reversed. Makena shook her head seeing Thor had thrown his axe at Thanos and she knew they were running out of time.

Makena looked at Shuri and cupped her face, "Hey, look uhm, when he snaps his fingers, a lot of people are gonna die. I'm gonna be one of those people, so I need you to promise me something."

Shuri shook her head, tears in her eyes as Makena rested her forehead against hers. "I don't want you to die." Shuri mumbled, for the first time since they met, Makena was actually crying. "I know, I know, I don't wanna go either. But I rather it be me than you," Makena mumbled.

Makena then noticed the look of nausea on Shuri's face and cupped her jaw, "Look at me, what's going on? Are you okay?"

Shuri shook her head, "I don't-I don't feel so good." Shuri breathed out. Makena furrowed her brows, and went to take Shuri's hand only it wasn't there. "No, no, no, no. It's supposed to be me." Makena shook her head, Shuri leaned her head on Makena's shoulder as her body began to slowly dissappear into ash.

"Kena, look at me," Shuri spoke softly, Makena looked at her, tears streaming down her face as she choked on a sob. Losing someone else she loved was her biggest fear. "I-I love you, Kena. I'm sorry," Shuri choked out.

"It's okay, it's okay." Makena pressed a kiss to Shuri's head and only a second later her body was completely gone, turned into ash.

Makena licked her lips and slammed her hand on the ground in frustration. Only a second later Ramonda had ran into the room. Her hand flew to her mouth in shock, seeing two of the Dora Milaje's turn to ash before her eyes.

Makena looked up at Ramonda, "It was supposed to be me."

Ramonda stepped down the ramp and kneeled down next to Makena, pulling Makena into her chest. Letting Makena sob into her chest, finally letting all her emotions out. "Let it all out, daughter. I've got you," Ramonda comforted, running her hand up and down Makena's back in a comforting manner.

"I didn't get to say it back."
