A few days had passed since the event that turned the whole Big Apple into a wreck, an event that was later called simply "The Battle of New York". The sun was high, the birds were chirping, and the city was slowly picking up the pieces of what was left of the invasion of aliens from outer space.
The population of New York reacted in different ways to what happened a few days prior. The majority was grateful to the new heroes that now were watching over them, they cheered the names of Captain America, Thor and Iron Man. Much to their surprise, they cheered even the names of Hulk and Wolverine. But another part of the population wasn't so fond of their saviors, calling the Avengers out on the destruction they caused all throughout the city, and not knowing where the super group was. And then, surprisingly, there were even those who didn't believe that heroes existed, and that they were in New York. The latter consisting mainly in one elder man with sunglasses who, in quote, said literally
"๐บ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐ต๐๐ ๐๐๐๐? ๐ฎ๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐ ๐๐๐๐๐."
The ones who felt grateful for the Avengers' act of bravery and heroism decided to homage them with haircuts, beard cuts, tattoos, or even cosplays. Hundreds of people acclaimed the armored hero right in front of the Stark Tower, or even in the streets with big parades and marches. They were safe, they were alive, and it was all thanks to seven brave people that, against all odds, managed to defeat the monsters coming to kill them all. The Avengers won, and the world was safe.
But there were others who weren't so lucky...
A place was arranged as a memorial to commemorate the way too many people that died during the invasion, adorned with letters, pictures, drawings and candles. Many other people could be seen kneeling down in front of said memorial to pay their respects, to remember the dead, and to cry them. It wasn't easy for the many parents to explain to their children why their mom or dad were not coming back. It was hard for uncles to say to their nephews that their parents were gone. It was hell for parents to have to live with the fact that their children died, and they wouldn't ever see them again.
Where were the Avengers now?
The heroes were in Central Park: there was one last thing that needed to be done. Each and every one of them arrived with different means of travel: Clint, Natasha and Bruce with a S.H.I.E.L.D. car, Tony with his very expensive car, and both Steve and Logan with their respective bikes. They all met on top of the bridge and got off their vehicles as many S.H.I.E.L.D. agents were guarding the place and keeping civilians very far in the distance from the bridge, just in case. As Thor walked Loki to the center of the bridge, Tony was carrying a silver briefcase with, inside, the Tesseract. Thor demanded that the cube was left to him and brought to Asgard, as far away as possible by people that did not know its power, and no one objected against that.
Shortly after even the scientist named Erik Selvig arrived on his truck. He was transporting a device that would've let both Thor and Loki use the power of the Tesseract to travel all the way to Asgard, since the Rainbow Bridge was still being repaired. They opened the back of the truck and took out a medium-sized glass container, with at its edges two metal and golden handles. Then the briefcase was opened, revealing the glowing space cube inside of it. Doctor Selvig used a metal tool to safely grab the object and place it in the container, while both Steve and Logan were eyeing it with a frown: an object that small caused such a destruction to a whole city.
Thor patted his friend Selvig on the shoulder, thanking him for being there for him, and also comforting him due to the traumatic experience his brother put him into. Selvig was a good man, and he didn't deserve what Loki did to him. While the interaction was happening, Loki was looking down, reminiscing his glorious purposes, and already starting to plan his next move. The god of mischief had been cuffed and gagged, so that he could not use his tongue to manipulate any other. Then he moved his gaze up towards Clint and Natasha. The pair of agents were watching the whole scene and, when the god's gaze fell on them, Natasha leaned closer to Clint while turning her head around, in order to not be heard by him. But Logan had a high hearing, so Barton wasn't the only one smirking at the lady's joke.
Thor grabbed with his right hand one handle of the container, that still needed to be turned in order to activate the cube, and got in front of Loki as he used his left hand, the one holding the hammer, to lend the other side of the container to his brother. Loki looked for a moment his brother, before taking the handle and getting ready for the transport. Thor moved his gaze away from Loki, looking in the distance to his right. Then he nodded, signaling that now he was going to activate the device, and only then he turned the handle. From the cube an intense blue energy was released that engulfed both the Asgardians. The group of people around them took a step back as they watched the two gods glow in the energy that was directed up, just like at the S.H.I.E.L.D. base. And they moved their gaze up as Thor and Loki were turned into pure energy and were being teleported up in the sky.
After that they all started bidding goodbye. After most of them left, Logan, with his signature leather jacket on, was standing beside his bike and was about to hop on, but then he sniffed someone approaching him. A scent of coconut invaded his nostrils as he smirked and, before turning around, he said
Logan: "I told you: if you want to sneak up on me, quit the strong scents."
Natasha smirked in amusement at his joke before replying
Natasha: "I'll be sure to keep that in mind the next time."
He then noticed he had a folder in her hands. He nodded at it and asked
Logan: "What's that?"
Natasha handled it to him as she said
Natasha: "An opportunity, if you'll accept."
Logan took the folder from her hands and, without opening it, asked her with a smirk
Logan: "Miss Romanoff, are you asking me out?"
Natasha rolled her eyes playfully as she replied with a groan
Natasha: "I can already tell you'll be the death of me, Logan."
Logan chuckled a bit, followed by her. He then turned around and put the folder inside his bag tied to the back of his bike. While he was doing that, she asked him
Natasha: "So, where will you go now?"
Logan finished putting the folder inside his bag and turned around, then answered
Logan: "I have somewhere in mind."
At that Natasha replied with
Natasha: "You know, if you need a place to stay, S.H.I.E.L.D. can provide for that."
Then, as he climbed on his bike, he looked at her and replied
Logan: "There's no need. A friend once made me an offer. I guess I'm gonna take him up on that."
Natasha nodded in acknowledgment at that, as he turned the key and started his bike. But, before taking off, he looked at her and said
Logan: "Bye, Natasha."
To which she answered with a small smile and a simple
Natasha: "Bye, Logan."
After that, the Canadian took off and sprinted away, while Natasha walked back to the car. And, again, Logan was near enough to hear Clint say
Clint: "Alright, now that the crisis is over, you seriously need to tell me what the hell happened, Nat."
Logan drove towards his destination. In the distance he spotted the gates to the place he hopefully would have been staying at and, knowing the guy, he already knew he was there.
He parked his bike just outside the entrance, then he got up and grabbed his bag, swinging it on his back as he walked the few steps separating him from the entrance doors.
Suddenly the doors opened, and the person he was looking for came out, looking at him and giving him a smirk as he said
???: "Took you long enough, Logan."
The Canadian chuckled before replying, with an equal smirk
Logan: "It's good to see you, Chuck."
