6. Grief

3rd Person POV

It was nearly a month, everything had passed quietly, Y/N took advice from Steve and began to marinate himself in the 21st Century culture. He even got himself a motorbike! Things were going pretty easy and the public were very thrilled to have the Wolverine back.

As for the team, they moved to a new facility Upstate. New additions were added. This included of James Rhodes or Rhodey. Sam Wilson, Y/N L/N and Wanda Maximoff led by Natasha and Steve. Thor decided to leave to discover more of these so called stones; he entrusted Stark that he was allowed to use it for some science project of his.

Clint retired, wanting to live a normal life with his wife, kids and his newborn. Y/N was also considering it before the wars for a long time, but he never got round to anything towards that.

Wanda was still dealing with the loss of her brother, she was distant with everyone including Y/N, she didn't hate him but Y/N respected her and did not pry, the had not mention or build up from the kiss they shared back in Sokovia. He continued with whatever he had to do, occasionally helping the girl if she wanted something from the cupboard.

Y/N's POV

(a/n: this is your dorm room.)

I was sat in my bed, playing with my dog tags. I had just finished training with Sam. The repeating sound of the fan was the only thing I was focusing on.

I shut my eyes, and I was beginning to doze off.

It was meant to be you.

Maybe if you were good enough, Pietro would be still alive.

Death will continue to follow you.

You're selfish.

Greedy.

My eyes suddenly expand open and my mouth let's out a small gasp, another nightmare... But it was different. Thank God it was just a dream.

I look at the time to see it's 3 PM. I was just napping. I get up from my bed and head to the bathroom in my room.

I take a look at myself for a few moments, this is me. I'm alive. In a new time. This shit is actually crazy. I splash my face with water a couple times and leave my room into the halls of the Compound.

I walked around, finding something to do. I eventually settled down in the living room where Nat, Steve and Sam were watching a movie.

Y/N: Hey guys.

Steve: Sup.

Natasha: Wolvie.

Sam: Hey man.

Y/N: What are you guys watching?

Sam: Star Wars, the sequels because someone doesn't like the prequels.

Natasha: I think the prequels are great.

Sam: Thank you!

He exclaimed, I merely chuckled at the fact that Steve was better at endorsing himself in such things better than me.

Sam: Have you caught up on the Star Wars films, yet. Remember I gave you a guide on how to watch them?

Y/N: Yeah about that... I still need to finish the Indiana Jones movies.

Natasha: But you're always busy playing basketball anyway.

Y/N: Because it's fun! C'mon!

Sam: No, he has a point. There's a reason I hardly play against Y/N. He's too good.

I gave Sam a smile before plopping myself on the sofa next to Nat.

A few minutes into the movie, I've let go of my nightmare and actually shown some interest in the film.

Y/N: Who's that Gandalf looking guy.

Sam: That's Obi W- Wait how do you know about Gandalf?

Y/N: I read the Hobbit in 1937. How do you know about Gandalf?

Sam: The Lord of the rings is a very popular film franchise... I don't even remember it being a book.

Y/N: You learn something new every day.

We laughed it off and I deepened myself into the sofa, watching the movie. Moments later, it ended and everyone was going back to their own tasks.

I got up and decided to walk back to my room. Walking back I heard a sniffled sob coming from Wanda's room, her room was just a few spaces away from mine. I glanced at the doorknob then at the door, her sobs were getting more frequent. I was reluctant at first but I really wanted to see what was going on with her.

So I knocked softly on the wooden door, waiting for a response. It took a few seconds so I just decided to leave her be and head back to my room before I heard a small 'come in'.

I smiled to myself, before opening the door to Wanda's room, it was slightly more spacious than the others and it had a really nice set up, she was using her time isolated to decorate her own room.

She was sat on the end of her bed, legs crossed with a certain red blanket over her lap, this caused me to smile mentally upon seeing thing that I purchased for her. It was one of the only things she had left from Sokovia.

She was watching an old sitcom on her television and was passively watching while she stopped crying, to let me in however I saw the dry tears on her face and on the red blanket that was damp.

Wanda: Y/N.

Y/N: Sorry, I didn't mean to disturb you.

Wanda: You don't?

Y/N: Well, I guess I did mean to come here.

Wanda: And now?

My mouth was left slightly open, thinking of sort of response I could muster up to reply back to the brunette.

Y/N: Uhhh. Well, whatever you'd like me to do. I'll leave if you want.

I said beginning to point at the closed door behind me but she interrupted by patting the space next to her. It was much quieter than the rest of the compound, only thing can be heard is the ambience of the crickets and the sitcom playing at low volume.

I nod and make my way over to Wanda, sitting slowly next to her as she kept her eyes on the screen, clearly not watching it however, I sat up straight and she took a moment to look back and return a soft smile.

I maintained my smile as he head shifted back to the TV. The man on the screen was building a house and immediately fell as the house above collapsed onto him.

Y/N: I'm assuming that was meant to be funny, right?

Wanda: Yeah.

She relplied nonchalantly, I had to think of another way to start a conversation without her cutting it off. So I nervously spoke up.

Y/N: Wanda... You've been inside this room, don't get me wrong, a lovely room... But, I've kinda missed talking to you. So, if you'd like to talk about your feelings, please feel free if it would bring you any form of comfort.

Wanda then turned to face me, giving me an unreadable expression.

Wanda: What makes you think... That talking about it would bring me comfort?

Y/N: I-

Wanda: The only thing that would bring me comfort is seeing him again.

She said sternly. I nodded, knowing she was right to be this defective so I looked away back to the TV, avoiding her gaze.

We both stayed silent for a few moments before she whispered up.

Wanda: I'm sorry. I'm-

I looked back at her with a sympathetic look, giving her a small supporting smile.

Wanda: I'm so tired.

She sarcastically smiled, biting her lip to refrain from crying again.

Wanda: It's- It's like this wave washing over me, again again. It knocks me down and when I try to stand up, it just comes for me again. And I can't- It's just gonna drown me...

She spoke, wiping a few tears as she continued to stare at the ground.

Y/N: No.

Wanda: Yeah...

Y/N: No Wanda.

She turned to face me again.

Wanda: How do you know?

I paused for a second, to take in her expression, she was clearly in the depression stage of grief. Tears slowly forming in my eyes making Wanda tilt her head.

Y/N: I lost-

I stopped for a moment again, I took a deep breath in and smiled out of my mere tears.

Y/N: Because it won't end that way. Losing someone sucks, but the sadness doesn't remain, does it?

She began to listen intently, her eyes focused on my face.

Y/N: What's the point in grieving, if we don't continue to love?

She looked down at her lap and fiddled with the red blanket. She was then interrupted by laughter at something funny in the show that I caught notice of. She turned to face me and I looked back nervously.

Y/N: Sorry. I-

She then smiled, a real genuine smile for the first time since the loss of her brother.

Wanda: No. It was funny.

Y/N: Yeah it was very funny.

Wanda: Mhm.

She reassured me as a giggle escaped her lips, looking at me back in the eyes with her gorgeous emeralds.

I looked into her eyes a bit longer than I should've and we both ended up facing the TV awkwardly. We eventually stayed to binge watch multiple sitcoms in comfortable silence until we had to respectively head to bed.

This was definitely a start.
