44. Death & Birth
Y/N's POV
It had been about 25 hours since the battle, and everyone had made it back to the school.
Hank was now with Wanda and I in the laboratory, where Daken and Tommy were being held in an incubator.
Apparently because of the Hex environment, the twins were still technically babies, and for them to live they'll have to be reset to their natural age. Wanda and I had agreed this was best so they would grow up without the trauma.
Currently, I was sat by the bed where my girlfriend was laying in, ready for skin to skin with the boys. I was nervous and kept my hands to myself.
I felt a soothing soft hand trail under the back of my shirt, and soft scratching could be felt. I turned around to see Wanda doing it with a soft, comforting smile on her lips. It felt unimaginable to see her again, feel her and look into those very eyes I fell in love with again.
It was a dream come true.
I smiled back and took her hand delicately and placed several kisses on it... savouring every moment with her.
Wanda: Are you okay?
Y/N: You travelled through a magical book to see me, I think I should be asking you that.
She giggles and hides her face in the pillow for a moment, I chuckle and she looks back at me.
Wanda: We're not a normal couple.
Y/N: You only realising that now?
We both share a laugh and when it falls quiet, she speaks more softly and seriously. And I look back into her eyes with curiosity.
Wanda: When this is all done, should we head back to our universe?
When she asked that, it triggered several thoughts in my mind. This universe had given me friends that I never expected making, reunited me with my family and even more. The universe didn't have people like Thanos running around every five seconds and it seemed peaceful...
Y/N: No.
Wanda: What? What do you mean?
Y/N: I can't go back there. There's no reason for me to be there anymore. I sacrificed myself for them, and this... this is like a new start for us, we have all our family and new friends and a safer environment where we don't need to be in costumes all day.
She nodded, glaring in my eyes for a brief second...
Y/N: Jimmy and Pietro, Wanda. Real family.
Wanda: You're right. It's like a new beginning. Like we earned it.
Y/N: Indeed we have.
The cry of two babies suddenly pulled us out of our conversation. Hank stood there with Daken in one hand and Tommy in the other, the blue furry friend smiled brightly and walked towards Wanda.
Hank: A healthy set of 20 fingers and 20 toes.
He handed the two boys to Wanda who brought them closer to her chest, she began to tear up and I smiled, the boys were safe, and their whines were fading with Wanda's touch.
Hank: If there's anything else you'd like please let me know, if not, I must depart and check on the Professor.
Wanda: We're good thank you.
Y/N: Thank you, Hank. Truly... and sorry about calling you an animal. Didn't mean it.
Hank: People have said worse... but you yourself, have shown me how brave you are. For your family.
He nodded and left the room, I crouched down and stared at my lover, holding our bundles of joy together. I leaned over and placed a kiss on all their heads.
Y/N: From this moment, I'll promise that I'll never leave you or my family behind. I'm with you now, and you are with me... nothing will separate us ever again, my love.
Wanda teared up and grinned widely, I reciprocated and connected our lips in a soft kiss, that melted my heart when I felt them again. Her kisses were comfort.
I nuzzle my face in between my babies and spend a silent moment with them, in peace and solidarity.
Y/N: I have to check on the Professor.
I tell Wanda, she looked up at me and nodded. She understood my respect for him. I stood up and slowly made my way out of the room.

Charles laid across the table, and the entire team was circled around him. I walked in silently and joined Jimmy and Pietro.
I noticed that Jeannie was held by her uncle Jim, and my heart warmed at that action. He was in full uncle mode.
A light gasp of air was taken by the elder in the bed, he looked around for a moment and smiled warmly.
He then saw Erik and had a small conversation with him, that made me realise how close they were.
Charles: Erik, surely you have more pressing business to attend to than nursing an old friend.
Erik: Nothing more important.
Charles: I'm grateful to have... the chance to say goodbye...
His gaze shifted to each of the members as he spoke carefully.
"Pietro, it's nice to see you reunited with your family, while you faced your fears... you have truly proven yourself an X-Man."
"Gambit, how often must the scoundrel prove himself a hero, before he believes it himself?"
"Jeannie, you are the future. When I look at your face, I see hope."
"Ororo... mighty as a hurricane, gentle as a summer rain. You honor me with your friendship."
"Jimmy. Loner. But the greatest silent hero of all... you have changed mankind in ways unknown... and I am eternally grateful for that."
"Rogue... unable to touch, yet look around you. You will find you have touched us all."
"Jean, first in my heart. Your courage allowed you to see things no other human ever has, yet remained the small, innocent child I met all those years ago."
"Hank, those friends thou hast, and their adoption tried,
grapple them to thy soul with hoops of steel."
"Scott, were I your father, I would tell you that no truer son could ever be."
"Y/N, thank you for coming to teach me, and help erase the mistakes of my past. I hope you have found yourself a new family upon reuniting with them... I consider you, an X-Man."
"Erik... so many years apart... only to have these last few moments together... I hope one day you realise, there is good in you, old friend."
"I am proud. Proud of you all, my X-Men."
By the time he was finished, Charles laid his head back and sighed in content. He took a deep breath in before the machine went flat line.
Everyone fell silent, only a few sobs could be heard, but the world had lost someone far more important than I could ever fathom.
A fighter, a leader, a teacher and an inspiration.
Charles Xavier was dead.

A/N: A very small filler but I'm adjusting. Hope this one was emotional and let me know your thoughts!
