CHAPTER SIX:
I DON'T WANT TO GO HOME

ELAINE SAT THERE WITH A book in her hand, listening as the Coach continued to yell at the lacrosse players, mainly her brother and repeating how he was going to do the run again. She glanced up for a moment, watching as he ran towards Jackson before slamming into him. Elaine's eyes widened as she watched Jackson fall to the ground and Scott place his hands on his helmet, falling to his knees. Stiles was quick to run over the boy, exchanging a few words with the boy before helping him up and leading him away. Elaine stood up, running down from the bleachers and quickly running after the boys, following them into the locker room.

"Scott, you okay?" Stiles was quick to ask.

Scott looked up at him before yelling, "GET AWAY FROM ME!"

"Scott!" Elaine frowned, grabbing the attention of the two boys making Stiles' eyes widen.

"Elaine!" Stiles quickly grabbed the girl, running away from Scott who was chasing after them. Elaine didn't understand what was going on and when she turned back towards her brother, she noticed that his dark eyes were replaced with yellow. Her eyes widened as Stiles continued to keep her away.

"What the hell is wrong with his eyes?!" She shouted. They stopped beside a set of lockers, only for Scott to jump up on top of them. That's when she not only noticed his eyes, but his pointed teeth as well. She stood there, frozen, but Stiles quickly pulled her along with him, trying to keep her out of harms way as Scott continued to jump from locker to locker until finally Stiles grabbed a fire extinguisher and sprayed Scott with it. Elaine stood there, fear coating her body as she looked at her brother.

There was a moment as Scott took off his helmet. "Stiles? What happened?"

"You tried to kill us." Stiles answered. And that's when Scott's eyes fell on Elaine who stood there with wide eyes and heavy breathing. She styed in her spot whilst Stiles kneeled down in front of Scott, speaking to him about his anger. But all Elaine could hear was her heartbeat in her ears, and the fear that was clawing at her. What the hell had she just witnessed?

"El?" Scott questioned, going to stand up but Elaine moved away from him.

"What are you?" She whispered, her voice shaking.

"Elaine, it's okay." Stiles told her, but Elaine took another step back. "We can explain everything, you just can't tell anyone what you saw."

"I-" She stuttered over her words before quickly turning on her heel and running away from the locker room. Scott called after her, but she didn't listen. She just kept on running. Eventually she stopped and Stiles caught up to her. She stood there, her arms crossed over her chest as she bit the inside of her cheek, tears developing in her eyes.

"El, wait!" Stiles stopped, taking a moment to breathe before he looked at the girl who was refusing to look at him. "Look, just let me take you home, and we can explain―︎"

"I don't want to go home, Stiles." Elaine snapped. "And the only reason I am is to pack a bag so that I can stay at Lydia's, forever."

"El-"

"Are you taking me or not?" Elaine snapped. Stiles looked at her before nodding his head and walking towards the jeep. The two got in, sitting in silence as Stiles drover her home. He opened his mouth several times but shut it again. He stopped in front of the house, parking the car. "I'll be back," She muttered before getting out of the car and entering the house just as her mother was leaving.

"Hey, mom." Elaine smiled, giving her a kiss on the cheek. "I'll be staying with Lydia for a little while so that we can work on a project. And I just kinda want to spend time with her, if that's alright?"

"Of course." She smiled. "I'll see you tomorrow for your brothers game though, right?"

"Uh. . . I think I'm working tomorrow. . ." Elaine said.

"El."

"I'll try to make it, I promise." Elaine said. "Now, go, you'll be late." She said goodbye before watching her mother leave and then quickly going up the stairs. She grabbed a big bag, stuffing as many pairs of clothes in there that she could. She went around her room, grabbing all the things that she could possibly need for the rest of the week.

"El-"

"Stay away from me, Scott." Elaine quickly spoke, stuffing her toothbrush and hairbrush in her bag before zipping it up and throwing it over her shoulder. She quickly pushed back her brother who followed her.

"El, just wait! Let me explain!"

"I don't want to hear it." Elaine snapped. "Not right now. I can't―︎I can't be in the same room as you at the moment without feeling terrified. So, please, stay away from me." A tear slipped down her cheek as she turned away, throwing open her front door and walking outside. She wiped the tear from her face before entering Stiles' jeep, turning her head towards the door where Scott was watching her with a frown. "Drive." Immediately, Stiles did as the girl asked, driving away and silently hoping that she would let them explain soon, knowing how much of an impact this was going to have on both siblings.

"Elaine!" Mrs. Martin greeted the girl, opening the door with a smile. "Come in."

"Thanks for letting me stay. If I'm any bother, feel free to kick me out." Elaine told the woman, offering her the best smile she could muster at the moment.

"Oh, nonsense!" Mrs. Martin smiled. "Lydia's upstairs in her room."

"Thanks." Elaine softly said before going up the stairs in search for her best friend. She knocked twice, making sure Lydia wasn't currently with a male before entering. She placed her bag down on the make-up chair before offering her best friend a small smile.

"Hey, Laine." Lydia smiled, patting the spot beside her for the girl to sit down. Elaine kicked her shoes off before sitting down, leaning against the headboard with a sigh, closing her eyes as she felt tears gloss over again. Lydia frowned, looking at the girl. "Hey, what's wrong?"

"Scott and I got into a fight." She answered, her voice cracking slightly.

"Do you want to talk about it?" Lydia questioned, placing a hand on her shoulder.

Elaine let out a shaky sigh. "He's been hiding some major things from me, and he knows that I hate it when people lie to me and I-" She cut herself off fom the half truth as the tears started rolling. She started sobbing and Lydia immediately pulled Elaine into her, hugging her friend as she cried into her shoulder.

"It's alright." She told the girl, running a hand through her hair, repeating the comforting phrase over and over again. Now, Lydia wasn't the type of person to comfort you when you were crying, she would simply say to deal with it and that it wasn't her problem. But not in that moment. She knew how serious Elaine's relationship with her brother meant to her, and Elaine wasn't one to cry in front of someone because she hated being sad, and she didn't want people to feel sorry for her when crying. Lydia had been best friend's with the girl since third grade, and no matter how much Lydia was a bitch to Elaine, she had always managed to stick around and reveal the less bitchy side of Lydia. So, as the rest of the night moved forward, Lydia did everything she could to keep Elaine distracted from the argument with her brother, and when Elaine had managed to not cry herself to sleep, Lydia felt a sense of pride knowing that she was able to help her friend feel a little better, even if it was only for a couple of hours.
