(Y/N) and Natasha strolled through the destroyed part of the Stark mansion in peace, chatting between each other while Fury spoke to Tony privately by the terrace, and while Natasha was free to wear her black suit, (Y/N) needed to wear a pencil dress to keep her cover afloat and continue working on the company.

Ever since Natasha had been recruited into S.H.I.E.L.D, (Y/N) would be proud to admit that she found a trustworthy friend in her. Natasha had been trying hard to prove that she was trustworthy enough to be here, and (Y/N) agreed more than anything. She could talk to her about anything and she'd try to help, or utter a sarcastic remark.

"He doesn't look that bad," Natasha said after (Y/N) had told her about having to work with the infamous billionaire. "Sure, he's eccentric, but that's all I see until now."

(Y/N) sighed. "There's just something about him that ticks me off, and you've seen that he feels the same sentiment."

Natasha couldn't say she totally agreed. "Whatever makes you sleep at night."

(Y/N) decided to drop the subject as they approached the terrace where Fury and Tony were still talking, the Malibu sun illuminating part of the mansion.

"โ€” As a matter of fact, I did," (Y/N) heard Fury speak. "He was one of the founding members of S.H.I.E.L.D."

"What?" Tony frowned.

"I got a two o'clock," Fury stood up and checked his wristwatch.

"Wait, wait," Tony saw how two people placed a case into the ground. "What's this?"

"Okay, you're good, right?"

"No, I'm not good."

"You got this, right?"

"Got what? I don't even know what I'm supposed to get," Tony impatiently cried out.

Fury placed his black coat on. "(Y/N) will remain a floater at Stark with her cover intact, Natasha will keep an eye on you in case of any emergency and you remember Agent Coulson, right?"

"Yeah."

"Oh, and Tony. . ." Fury looked back before he walked away. "Remember, I got my eye on you."

With that, he left the rubble of the Stark mansion, leaving Tony alone with the other agents, some keeping watch by the sidelines, and the others were standing by him.

"We've disabled all communications, no contact with the outside world," Natasha informed. "Good luck."

"Please. . .First thing I need is a little body work. I'll put in a little time at the lab," Tony walked over to Coulson. "If you could send one of your goon squad down to the Coffee Bean across the street or Starbucks, that'll be nice."

"I'm not here for that," Coulson replied with a strong amount of patience. "I've been authorized by Director Fury to use any means necessary to keep you on premises. If you attempt to leave โ€” "

"Right."

"Or play any games, I will taze you and watch Supernanny while you drool into the carpet."

"I think I got it, yeah."

Coulson flashed him a smile. "Enjoy your evening's entertainment."

Coulson walked away from him too and (Y/N) stood by in silence with her arms crossed, pretending to look somewhere else until she felt his eyes on her.

"Are you gonna threaten me too, or you're just gonna stand there?"

(Y/N) gave him a side look. "As much as I want to, I can't," she cleared her throat. "Enjoy your little project."

Just as Fury had said, (Y/N) kept her cover in Stark Industries, still working as Pepper Potts's assistant just as it was instructed from the beginning.

"Ms. Potts," (Y/N) knocked on the door before opening it, allowing herself and Happy to step into the office where Pepper and Tony were already in.

Based on the look on Pepper's face, it seemed like the conversation they were having beforehand was nothing good before she and Happy walked inside.

"Hi, come on in," Pepper greeted.

(Y/N) made her way over to the desk with a binder in hand. "Wheel's up in 25 minutes."

"Thank you."

"Anything else, boss?" Happy asked from his spot by the door.

"I'm good, Hap," Tony replied.

"I'll be just โ€” " Pepper answered at the same time, her words stopping once she realized that Tony thought the question was for him. ". . .another minute."

Tony looked back at (Y/N) and Happy, skating his head. "I lost both the kids in the divorce."

(Y/N) gave him a tired gaze while Happy shook his head in silence when Tony's eyes were on him to check if his joke made him laugh too. When Tony realized no one was in the same mood, he immediately quieted down.

"That's. . ." he sighed. "No."

(Y/N) was still by Pepper's side as the blonde signed and read through the papers that she had brought inside the binder, standing with her hands behind her back.

"Are you blending in well here, (Y/N)?" Tony asked suddenly, and she shot him a glare. "Here at Stark. . .Enterprises. Your name is (Y/N) Vance, isn't it?"

If looks could kill, Tony would've been buried six feet under at that exact moment. (Y/N) and Tony held eye contact before Pepper decided to speak up, handing the binder back to (Y/N).

"I see you are now getting along," she said, eyeing them both.

"Totally," Tony replied drily, leaning back on the chair. "Just like you and I, Pep."

Pepper only gave him a side eye before standing up from her chair, and Tony sighed once again as he watched her grab her stuff to leave.

"No? Nothing?"

"Actually," Pepper stopped in her tracks. "While you're here maybe you and (Y/N) could discuss the matter of personal belonging."

(Y/N) nodded in response. "Sure thing."

Tony and (Y/N) were both able to see how Pepper crossed the room towards the door and left with Happy trailing behind her, him dragging a suitcase with him until the door closed, leaving them both inside the office.

(Y/N) could finally drop the charade. "I'm surprised you could shut up for once in your life."

"You're good," Tony said, not before he rolled his eyes at the comment. "You are mind-blowingly duplicitous. How do you do it? I've never seen anything like it. Is there anything else I need to know about you?"

(Y/N) didn't answer him, she just gathered her stuff up to leave the office too but before she could, Tony kept bombarding her with questions.

"By the way, Lieutenant? Where did that come from?"

(Y/N) gave him a fake smile. "It's unprofessional to speak of my personal life." Because I still don't remember it entirely, was part of her inner thoughts, but she obviously couldn't say that.

"Oh, I apologize," Tony spoke sarcastically, spinning on the chair. He wouldn't say it out loud, but there was something about her that irked his curiosity.

(Y/N) began to make her way to the door but she stopped right before she could walk outside to say something else.

"That means I have the authority to order you to either drive yourself home or I could have you collected," she told him firmly before flashing a smile. "Your choice."

Tony watched her open and close the door behind her making him cry out one last thing. "You're good!"
