Nerves bundled inside (Y/N)'s stomach in a tight knot, consistently tugging on it like her insides were playing Tug of War every time she took a deep breath. Her pounding headaches kept coming and going, yet she paid them no mind because there were worst things to focus on at the time. The team had split up in different groups throughout the airport to cover more ground, knowing that they might run into Tony at some point. So, considering that Steve was one of the main people Tony was pissed off with, (Y/N) decided to join him and Scott, thinking that she might have a better chance in calming things down.

She and Steve walked silently through the empty airport, meanwhile Scott had shrunk down with his special suit and sat on the shield in silence. The duo spotted a lone helicopter standing a few feet away and were starting to run toward it when an electrical shock wrapped itself over the rotor. This stopped them in their tracks, looking up to see where it came from to perfectly see Tony in his Iron Man suit hovering above them.

Tony landed on the ground in front of them with Rhodey right behind them, lifting dust up due to their harsh landing. (Y/N) pressed her lips in a thin line and avoided locking eyes with the man behind the helmet.

"Wow, it's so weird how you run into people at the airport," Tony began. His helmet went back and it revealed his face, and (Y/N) couldn't help but notice the black eye adorning his face. He turned to face Rhodey. "Don't you think that's weird?"

"Definitely weird."

"Hear me out, Tony," Steve spoke up, an exhausted tone behind his voice. It was noticiable that he was getting tired of arguing with him. "That doctor, the psychiatrist, he's behind all of this."

(Y/N) heard a thud behind her and she turned around just in time to see another person jumping into the scene. T'Challa stared down at the two behind his Black Panther mask.

"Captain, Lieutenant," he nodded his head.

(Y/N) copied his action to show respect, despite that he was there to stop them. "Your Highness."

"Anyway," Tony interrupted the formality. He moved around Rhodey as he kept talking. "Ross gave me 36 hours to bring you in. That was 24 hours ago. Can you help a brother out?"

"You're after the wrong guy."

"Your judgement is askew. Your old war buddy killed innocent people yesterday."

"And there are five more super soldiers just like him," Steve raised his voice to add onto the seriousness. "I can't let the doctor find them first, Tony. I can't."

"Steve, (Y/N)," a fourth voice came in, this time feminine. Both turned around and saw Natasha standing behind them with a rigid posture, as if she didn't want to be in this situation at all. "You know what's about to happen. Do you really wanna punch your way out of this one?"

"All right, I've run out of patience," Tony lowered his head before raising his hands up to call someone. "Underoos!"

Unexpectedly, a web of some kind stuck itself in Steve's shield before pulling it away from his hand. The web wrapped itself around Steve's wrists to restrain him, and an identical one did the same with (Y/N)'s hands and ankles. She found it hard to take a step forward and she could easily break free from the webs, but decided against it. She had to wait just a bit longer.

The unknown added member to their team landed in front of them with Cap's shield in hand, and that's when (Y/N) got a good look at him. The bright red and blue colors caught her attention, as well as the spider logo that was designed on the chest. The black web-like design covered the entirety of the suit, but what caught her attention more was what Tony had just called him. Kid. He brought a kid into this?? was (Y/N)'s initial question.

"Thanks," the boy behind the mask said in an awkward tone. This boy was no older than 16 years old. "I could have stuck the landing a little better, it's just. . .new suit. It's nothing, Mr. Stark. It's perfect. Thank you."

"Yeah, we don't really need to start a conversation."

"Okay. Cap. Captain," the boy did a salute toward him, stuttering over his words before focusing on the other person beside him. "The Marvelette. It's a huge honor. Big fan. I'm Spider-Man."

"Yeah, we'll talk about it later."

"Hey, everyone."

"Good job," Tony tried to quiet him down. "Nice job, kid."

"You've been busy."

"And you've been a complete idiot," Tony snapped toward Steve. "Dragging in Clint, 'rescuing' Wanda from a place she doesn't even know ant to leave, a safe place. Lying to and brainwashing (Y/N)."

(Y/N) couldn't help but frown at his choice of words. There had been no lying up to this point, and she certainly wasn't brainwashed into her own decision. The fact that he was saying that out loud was as if he was reassuring himself of these lies so he could have someone else to blame. She couldn't help but feel sad that this was where they came to; from living together for over a year to being divided because of a single catastrophe.

"I'm trying to keep β€” " Tony sighed in defeat. "I'm trying to keep you from tearing the Avengers apart."

"You did that when you signed," Steve responded with his eyes not leaving Tony's.

An angry groan escaped Tony's lips, him shaking his head in disapproval before his eyes set on (Y/N) beside Steve. He was exhausted, bruised and angry, yet the intensity behind his eyes didn't waver for a second.

"This is who you're siding with?" his voice was nearing to a yell. "You have one last chance. It's me or him."

(Y/N) couldn't help but feel angry over the situation he was putting her in. "Don't do that. You're not going to like my answer."

A flash of hurt washed over his eyes before it got swallowed by the frustration he felt due to Ross's pressure on his shoulders. "You're gonna turn Barnes over, you're gonna come with us, now, because it's us β€” or a squad of J-SOC guys with no compunction about being impolite."

Neither (Y/N) or Steve uttered a verbal response. They were still waiting on a word from the others scattered over the airport, and that's when Sam's voice jumped over to comms.

"We found it," he said, referring to him and Bucky. "Their Quinjet's in hangar five, north runway."

That the only signal they needed. Steve raised his hands in the air and one of Clint's arrows broke through the web. At the unexpected arrow, Tony drew his helmet on in alarm, looking to see where it had come from. (Y/N) easily heated up her fists which melted the webs and she did the same with the ones on her ankles.

"All right, Lang," Steve called to the newest member, referring to his cue.

"Hey, guys, something β€” " the Spider-Man tried to say before Scott returned to his original size from his position on the shield, kicking the boy in the face while doing so.

This instantly alarmed Rhodey. "Whoa. What the hell was that?"

Scott returned to (Y/N)'s and Steve's side, his face being covered by his suit's helmet. "I believe this is yours, Captain America."

Steve took the shield from him.

"Oh, great," Tony remarked annoyed, turning the boosters in his suit on and gaining altitude. "All right, there's two on the parking deck. One of them's Maximoff, I'm gonna grab her."

Before he flew away, he faced Rhodey. "Rhodey, you wanna take Cap?"

"Got two in the terminal, Wilson and Barnes."

"Barnes is mine!" T'Challa called out before he bolted in the direction that terminal.

Before Rhodey could gain altitude just like Tony, Steve reacted quickly and threw his shield directly at his chest plate. This made Rhodey drop to the ground and lose his footing for a few minutes, which gave him enough time to run after T'Challa uninterrupted. Since (Y/N) knew that Rhodey might follow after him once he got up, she decided he was the one she was going to be holding back. Meanwhile, Scott was doing his best to keep up a fight with Natasha a few feet away.

Once Rhodey stood up, he pulled a device that was crackling with electricity from the back of his suit and held it in his hands. "Sorry, (Y/N), this won't kill you but it ain't gonna tickle either."

"I thought we were friends!" (Y/N) tried to call out before Rhodey gained altitude on her and tried to hit her with the device.

She crossed her arms in an X form to block the full impact of the shock, though it still hurt like hell when her body collided with it. She mustered all the strength in her body to push Rhodey back before firing a photon blast at him, careful not to make it that strong on him.

Rhodey was able to recover quickly from her blast and he flew downward toward (Y/N) to intend on crashing with her. She saw this coming and rolled out of his way, grabbing the device from his hands. Without thinking too much of it, she broke it with her knee and tossed it to the side. At the same time, Steve gained advantage on his own fight and did a roundhouse kick on T'Challa that threw him to the side.

"Great," she could hear Rhodey mutter under his breath.

"Hey, Cap, heads-up!" Scott called toward him and tossed him a miniature version of a white truck. Confused at this, Steve looked at him for a quick explanation.

"Throw it at this," Scott showed him a kind of small disk with a blue light on it. "Now!"

Scott threw his own disk before Steve did, and Natasha dodged right in time not knowing what to expect. The exact moment that the two objects touched each other, the truck grew onto its original size, flying in the direction where Rhodey was standing.

"Oh, come on!"

The truck crashed into the ground and caused an instant explosion because of the impact. Fire and smoke covered the entirety of the truck as it rolled through the floor, the opposing members being caught off guard due to the stunt. On the other hand, Steve, (Y/N) and Scott all watched from a safe distance with different looks behind their eyes, the smell of smoke filling their nostrils.

"Oh, man, I thought it was a water truck," Scott cringed by his own mistake. Steve only stared at him incredulously. "Uh, sorry."

"That was cool, I'll give you that," (Y/N) gave him a brief pat on the shoulder.

"Thanks!" Scott breathed out before the three of them knew it was time to get away from there and bolted away from the scene.

β”€β”€β”€βœ±*.q:q✱*.:q✧*.q✰ ───

(Y/N) ran through the empty runway of the airport with Steve on one side and Scott on the other. The sight of the quinjet was growing nearer with every step she took, thinking they were actually going to make it without another interruption. Along the way, Wanda and Clint joined them, as well as Sam and Bucky. The entire team ran together toward the hangar but then a yellow beam of light cut through the floor in front of them, making them halt.

Vision hovered above them, the light from the stone in his head disappearing. "Captain Rogers, I know you believe what you're doing is right. But for the collective good, you must surrender now."

Tony landed on the ground with Natasha by his side a few feet away, keeping their distance. Rhodey was holding onto T'Challa as they flew in, and the latter rolled down onto the ground once it was safe to. Spider-Man slung himself on a web to get himself closer and jumped onto the floor besides Rhodey.

A lump formed on (Y/N)'s throat at seeing one half of the most important people in her life standing on opposite ends of the fight. She truly did not want this to end the way she knew it was going to, but there was no other choice. Her eyes never left the other team, a part of her nervous of the outcome and the other being stubborn enough not to back down from a fight.

"What do we do, Cap?" Sam questioned.

"We fight."

He was the first one to take a step forward before the others followed his lead. Because they saw them advancing towards them, the opposite team did the same and walked at their own pace. Steve gained more confidence and his walk turned into a full on charge at the other team, which made the others do the same. At that point, they were all prepared to meet at the middle.

Once the collision between the two teams was close enough, Sam opened his wing suit and flew into the air. Wanda thrusted her hands under herself and red mist lifted her off, meanwhile (Y/N) pushed herself off her feet with a jump and a golden light enveloped her entire body.

Tony and Rhodey had also flown into the air, but the what Tony did was use that altitude to deliver a punch at Steve, who blocked it with his shield. Rhodey had gone after Sam, and both of them were swerving each others attacks in midair. (Y/N) balled a fist and directed a blast at Vision, who redirected it with his own beam. The others were in the midst of their own fights in the ground, which consisted in cars thrown in the air or punches echoing the area.

(Y/N) was still in the air as she kept dodging Vision's laser beam, which was hard to do because of they didn't have a constant rhythm. Since she knew this strategy wasn't going anywhere, (Y/N) stopped in midair and used her two fists to throw a blast, which collided with Vision's laser beam right in the middle. The two different sources of energy caused an explosion, knocking (Y/N) off the ground and make her crash against the concrete.

This didn't seem to satisfy Vision, since he went downward onto the ground where she laid and changed his body into a much harder material before delivering a punch at (Y/N)'s jaw. The impact made (Y/N) cry out in pain, which made Tony falter from where he stood in the battle. She was pretty sure she could taste her own blood, but she didn't let that bother her. Okay, I'm done playing nice, she decided. She grabbed a hold of Vision's fist before it did any more damage and blasted him off her before he could completely change his structure again.

"Okay, it's somebody else's turn with the robot," (Y/N) spoke through her comms, standing up to her feet.

"I got him," Clint answered her. "He does riles you up pretty easily, right? Damn robot."

"Careful, Clint. Don't let Wanda hear you."

"Oh, please," the very own woman scoffed into her own communication device.

A scoff of a laugh escaped (Y/N)'s lips as she dusted herself off the ground. She hovered in the air as she watched the battle unfold in front of her eyes, and she faltered for a second in midair. The sight of the team fighting against each other was something she didn't even want to see in her nightmares, but it was coming true right beneath her.

She dismissed these thoughts and focused on the task in hand. "Anybody need my help?"

"Yeah, get your boyfriend β€” " Sam was about to tell her, but then (Y/N) let out a yelp of surprise as a web wrapped itself around her ankle and yanked her down. "Never mind."

(Y/N) was able to cut the web before she was slammed against the ground again, quickly landing on her feet. The Spider-Man ( or should she say adolescent ) landed a few feet away from her with his knees bent.

"I've always wanted to know how you got your powers," Spider-Man spoke too enthusiastically for his own liking.

"Look, hon, there's a lot going on that you may not understand," (Y/N) tried to reason.

"Mr. Stark said you'd say that."

He let out a quiet 'wow' before shooting two separate webs in her direction, only for them to be blasted down into bits with two photon blasts. Shocked, he tried again, and he could see that she was slightly holding back from a real fight.

"He also said to not underestimate you."

He fired another web, and this time (Y/N) grabbed a hold on it and tugged strongly enough to pull the Spider-Man along. She raised her leg to kick him to the side once he got close enough, careful on not being too harsh on that kick. The boy groaned in response to the kick, getting up on his feet quite quickly.

"Did Tony say anything else?" she asked him curiously, eager to know what else he'd say.

"All good stuff, I promise. Talks as if he likes you," his masked eyes widened with his own words. "No! I mean, he says you're wrong and you think you're right. But it's not your fault."

(Y/N)'s shoulders sagged at those words. Still, she couldn't believe that Tony got a kid involved in their mess. Spider-Man took this opportunity to aim another web at her hands, making her repeat her tugging action, letting out an exasperated sigh at his new failed attempt.

"Look, I don't want to hurt you, honey," (Y/N) raised her hands out to show that it was no ruse. "You have potential. I just wish we met under different circumstances."

Spider-Man took her words under consideration. He had lowered his hands too, taking cautionary steps toward (Y/N). "Now, what?"

"Go," she told him. "Just don't tell anyone, especially Tony, that I went easy on you."

He noticed the playful look in her eyes and he nodded eagerly, not wanting to disappoint her. "Got it!"

He aimed a web toward a near structure to swing himself away, and (Y/N) flew in the opposite direction to help out her other friends. She meant it, though. She liked the kid, especially his bravery to let himself get involved in a situation like this. She wished she could learn more of him once this was over.

β”€β”€β”€βœ±*.q:q✱*.:q✧*.q✰ ───

The fight was still going strong. Sam and (Y/N) were doing the best they could in dodging Rhodey's attacks, having a rhythm between themselves that allowed them to perfectly swerve each and every one of the attacks. Meanwhile, the others were on the ground.

"We gotta go," Bucky's voice came through her ear. "That guy's probably in Siberia by now."

"We gotta draw out the flyers," Steve decided, forming a plan in his head. "I'll take Vision, you get to the jet."

"No, you get to the jet," Sam interrupted his forming plan. "Both of you! The rest of us aren't getting out of here."

"As much as I hate to admit it. . ." Clint added his own comment. "If were gonna win this one, some of us might have to lose it."

"This isn't the real fight, Steve."

"All right, Sam. What's the play?"

"We need a diversion. Something big."

"I got something kinda big," Scott interfered in a chirpy voice, happy to have an idea. "But I can't hold it very long. On my signal, run like hell. And if I tear myself in half β€” don't come back for me."

"He's gonna tear himself in half?" The confusion was audible in Bucky's voice.

"You sure about this, Scott?"

"I do it all the time," he reassured Steve. "I mean, once. In a lab. Then I passed out."

There was small hesitance whether this diversion was going to work or not, and there was no other word from him in comms. But then, Scott's figure gained a much bigger size than normal and he grabbed onto Rhodey like a kid would grab a toy, and that was the moment when all doubts flew out the window. The sight was almost impossible to believe, yet it was still in front of (Y/N)'s eyes.

"Holy shit!"

"Way to go, Tic Tac!"

Because of the shock of the scene in front of him, Tony was distracted enough to not see Sam flying up to him before it was too late. He was pushed to the side like a rag doll before he reacted and chased after him in the air. Scott let go of Rhodey but tossed him aside, which gave (Y/N) the opportunity to blast him off to the side in order to distract him. Spider-Man was quick to react and he aimed a web at Rhodey's form, grabbing onto him before he could crash against a plane and turn him around toward the fight.

Scott used his enormous foot to push a bus toward T'Challa's direction, which rolled on the ground before Vision broke through it. Meanwhile, (Y/N) formed a protective perimeter around Scott in the air as Clint did the same in the ground to avoid either Rhodey or Tony to come anywhere near him. She blasted off the bullets that Rhodey was firing at her, being careful not to get them too close to Scott.

Sam's main focus was distracting Tony, and just as (Y/N) was about to leave her post and help him out, Rhodey's blasts returned. Spider-Man was dangling from a web on his feet, and they flew around Scott to distract him. (Y/N) got to work and the first thing she did was blast the web off, making Spider-Man lose his grip. Rhodey got up close, and emitted a sonic wave from one of his gauntlets, making Scott close his eyes at the noise. (Y/N) used her fist to punch him toward the ground successfully, just as Vision knocked Scott over with a hit in the knee before phasing through him.

(Y/N) began to notice how the Spider-Man began wrapping a single web around Scott's legs, and she knew this didn't mean anything good. She did her best in trying to swat him off with her blasts, but at the exact same time she was being shot at by Rhodey and Tony.

"Uh, might need some help here," Scott called out nervously as he began to falter on his feet.

"Hang on," (Y/N) tried to reassure, one hand aiming downward at the kid and the other doing her best to draw both men away. Sam was nowhere to be found, and the others were doing their own part of the plan.

In the end, Rhodey and Tony flew up to Scott's head and punched him square in the jaw, knocking him back. Since his legs were tangled, he had no way to secure his fall, yet he flapped his arms around to find his balance. One of his arms swatted the Spider-Man away harshly into the ground, and (Y/N) saw how he crashed against the boxes in the ground. Meanwhile, Scott fell back on the ground and had no choice but to return to his regular size.

(Y/N) reached him quickly and Scott seemed perfectly fine. "Does anybody have some orange slices?"

Clint reached the both of them in an instant. He saw the look on (Y/N)'s eyes, though he couldn't quite place the exact emotion, he could realize what she had in mind. "Hey, you can go. I got him. You look like you got somewhere else to be."

(Y/N) was unsure, but Clint's firm nod confirmed that it was fine for her to go. She got into the air again and flew in the direction she saw the kid crash against the floor, wanting to do it quickly before anybody else could see her. Her eyes widened at the unmoving figure on the floor and she landed near him with a bit of hesitance, not knowing why she was so worried for a child she just met a few minutes earlier.

She knelt over him, a hand hovering over his spandex covered arm, debating whether or not to be there at all. Before she did anything else, she heard a familiar thud behind her and she didn't have to turn around to see who it was. Tony didn't say anything to her, yet they both locked eyes with the same emotion written on them.

(Y/N) lowered her head in guilt while Tony knelt down beside her, eyes on the kid. "Hey, kid, you all right?"

The boy immediately jolted up with half of his mask lifted off his face, trying to blindly attack whomever was hovering above him. Tony grabbed a hold of his wrist before he could punch him but he still tried to free himself from his grip.

"Same side," Tony reminded him. And that's when he finally realized how it was. "Guess who. Hi. It's me."

"Hey, man," he sighed in relaxation. He then noticed (Y/N) kneeling on the side. "Hey, again."

"Oh, you attack me and not her?"

If things weren't so tense right now, she would've laughed like she always did. The boy came to realize that half of his mask was off and he instantly panicked, trying to pull it over his face.

"It's fine," (Y/N) reassured him. "It's fine."

Tony couldn't look at her in the eye and instead focused on the kid. "You're done, all right?"

"What? No, I'm good."

"You did a good job. Stay down."

"No, it's good. I gotta get him back."

"You're going home or I'll call Aunt May!" Tony raised his tone in a defensive one. "You're done."

Tony got up to his full height and took off in the air again, lifting off the dust on the ground as he did so. (Y/N) was still kneeling beside the boy as he unsuccessfully tried to lift himself onto his elbows.

"Mr. Stark, wait. I'm not done. I'm not β€” " he groaned, pulling the mask on unnecessarily. "Okay. I'm done. I'm done."

"There's no need for that now that I know how you look like," (Y/N) reminded him, and he let out a sigh in response. "Now, you're gonna tell me your name or should I have to wait?"

"I'm Parker," he cleared his throat. "Peter. Peter Parker. That's my name."

(Y/N) heard the ignition sound of the quinjet engine, and this told her that Steve and Bucky had successfully made it. But she knew the other team was not doing to give up so easily, so she had no choice but go into the air and try to help them escape. She flashed the boy, known now as Peter Parker, a salute with two fingers before she jumped into the air again, in the same direction where Sam and Rhodey were heading to.

The jet was already flying away off the airport, but Tony and Rhodey were hot on its trail. Sam was flying behind them, and (Y/N) joined his side in a matter of seconds. With hesitance in her mind, she shot a blast at Tony, who easily deflected it. Sam did the same but with his own gadgets at Rhodey, causing clouds of smoke all around him.

(Y/N) flew right behind Rhodey, and she was prepared to fire another blast when she saw the outline of Vision's own beam coming her way. In a quick reaction, she moved upward from the beam's direction before it could hit her, but this made the beam impact with the nearest object it could collide with; and that was Rhodey's suit.

Just as the beam hit him in the chest, the sound of the suit powering down was audible in the air. (Y/N) realized what she'd done and saw how Rhodey began to plummet downward into the ground with incredible speed, so she did her best and dived after him.

She did her best to catch up with him as he got closer to the ground with every passing second, seeing how smoke was coming out of his suit. (Y/N) encouraged her to go faster, yet she couldn't seem to do so. She pushed herself harder to the point where her body was glowing so brightly due to all the power she was trying to ignite, but her efforts were useless. Rhodey crashed into the ground and (Y/N) caught up with him just by a second off.

At the same time, Tony landed right beside him in a panic, removing the face plate from the helmet and seeing Rhodey unconscious. (Y/N) was muttering every curse word under her breath as she got close to the scene and saw Rhodey's state.

"Read vitals," Tony ordered his AI.

"Heartbeat detected," FRIDAY spoke up. "Emergency medical is on its way."

Sam landed near them a few seconds after, keeping a safe distance between them. (Y/N) met his eyes and did her best to tell him to go, but he didn't listen.

"I'm sorry," he apologized.

Tony raised his hand in his direction and blasted him back a few feet without looking at him. After that, Vision joined the scene, his eyes startled by the events.

(Y/N) saw Tony's fiery look behind his eyes, but she couldn't find the words to make him feel better. She felt as if she wasn't worthy to console him after everything that's happened.

"You did this, you caused this," Tony's eyes were on her, glaring so harshly that she might've thought smoke was coming out of his ears.

And just like that, the words from her worst nightmare came true. Of course, they weren't said in the same context, but they were said by the exact same person, one that she did not want to hear those words from. But they were said now, hovering in the air that was also filled with the metallic taste of blood and broken promises.
