IT WAS SETTLED, they were going after Loki in New York just like he wanted, but they were already a step ahead. Tony went to tinker with his damaged suit and fly on his own to the tower when it was ready, all while (Y/N) had other plans for her and Steve. We'll need all the help we can get, she had told him before instructing him to find Natasha and Clint in the infirmary, since their presence and skillset were necessary.
While he did as she told him, (Y/N) went through her stuff and quickly changed into the old Kree suit she'd kept for any emergency, the new colors of red, gold and blue still shining like the last time she'd worn it. After that, she made her way into the hangar for any free jet that would get her and the other three in the big city in no time.
She quickly walked up the rear hatch of the nearest jet she could find, already making her way to sit in the cockpit when a young man popped from the side of the jet and tried to stop her from moving forward.
"Hey, you aren't authorized to be here," he said in a monotone voice.
"Kid, I don't want any problems," (Y/N) exhaled, and she balled her fist to show a glimpse of the gold light coming from her fingers. "We can do this the easy way, or my way."
The man, knowing better than to provoke her, ran out of the jet without looking back, and (Y/N) smiled in satisfaction to herself. She made her way over and pressed the buttons on the dashboard to ignite the engine, waiting for the other three, who were just making their way over. Clint and Natasha were on either sides of Steve, all three suited up and with their weapons ready.
Natasha sat down on the copilot seat right next to (Y/N), and the engine roared once again to alert that it was prepared for the flight. Without further ado, the jet began moving from its spot and gaining speed, flying out of the hangar and into the air toward their destination.

Just like any other member of the supposed team, (Y/N) perfectly knew how a battlefield looked like, but what she was witnessing before her was truly a scene she'd never seen in her life, and that was saying something. In the far distance, she could see how a blue ray emitted toward the sky from the highest point of the Stark Tower, and an army began flying out of the wormhole that it created in the sky.
"Stark, we're on your three, headed northeast," Natasha called once they got a hold of him.
"What? Did you stop for drive-through?" Tony questioned in an annoyed tone. "Swing up Park. I'm gonna lay 'em out for you."
(Y/N) and Natasha were able to lower the jet down enough for it to soar through the tall buildings of the city and fire at the Chitauri coming their way, trying to dodge as many attacks as possible. (Y/N) pulled on the control to move the jet upward into the sky and avoid being in the range of fire any longer, but the army was persistent, she did her best to keep it stable and maneuver through the smoke until she made it to the top of the Stark Tower.
By this point, the jet had received few hits, but it seemed like just a few more would be enough to sent it down to the ground and (Y/N) had to be careful. She peaked on the side window and saw how Loki was on the balcony of the tower and fighting with a figure that looked much like Thor.
"Nat?" she asked, since the redhead was the one in control of the gun on the belly of the jet.
"I see him."
Natasha opened fire again directed at Loki, and he threw Thor back quick enough to raise the scepter in the air and aim a blast at the jet just like he had intended a few days ago. This time, (Y/N) and Natasha weren't quick enough to make the jet swerve to the side and dodge it, so one of the wings took the hit and made everyone inside lose their balance.
Both women tried to stabilize it and make the landing softer, but the unbalanced jet began spinning down in circles and losing altitude. Fire was coming out of the wing and (Y/N) tried to at least move the jet into a place where it could crash without hurting anybody around.
The ground was getting closer and by the time it was just a few seconds away from crashing into the concrete ground, (Y/N) squinted her eyes shut and flinched out of pure muscle memory. She didn't have time to question it or think through it since Natasha beside her was already fiddling out of her seatbelt and (Y/N) knew there was no more time to waste.
Her, Steve, Clint and Natasha ran out of the crashed jet and were able to see how bad the damage was in the ground. Blown up cars were thrown all over the street and people were racing up to the closest building they could find for protection, it certainly looked like a nightmare.
"We got to get back up there," Steve said as they all ran down the street to get a view of the tower.
(Y/N) thought she was hallucinating when she suddenly heard a loud mechanical growl coming from right above, but when she looked around her and saw that the others had heard it too, she dared to lift her head up.
From the same wormhole that the smaller Chitauri soldiers were coming out of, a large form of a Leviathan slithered it's way out into the sky with another roar leaving its mouth. The Leviathan flew through the air but lowered itself down enough so it could destroy the already broken buildings and monuments in its path. (Y/N), with her head still up, saw how the enormous creature passed right above her head and everyone else's before it began to let out more Chitauri soldiers into the streets.
"Stark, are you seeing this?"
"Seeing. Still working on believing," Tony answered, his voice sounding out of breath. "Where's Banner? Has he shown up yet?"
"Banner?"
"Just keep me posted."
(Y/N) pressed her hand on her comms. "Sure you don't need my help up there?"
"Don't worry about it, hon," she heard him say. "Save your party trick for later."
(Y/N) wanted to fly up there and help him out, but she knew better than that, Tony probably had a plan under his sleeve and she knew down here they could use an extra pair of hands.
The explosions kept going off in the air and more Chitauri were flooding the city and scaring the people away, and the four had no choice but to duck behind a taxi cab in order to avoid getting hit by the ruckus above.
"They're fish in a barrel down there," Steve pointed out, standing up from his kneeling position to see what was happening on the street.
"We got this," Natasha referred to herself and her friends. "It's good. Go."
"Do you think you can hold them off?"
"Captain," Clint gave him a confident smirk, one hand toying with the bow and preparing an arrow. "It would be my genuine pleasure."
Steve took this as a sign to move away and jump down the bridge they were on, leaving the other three to fend for themselves. Natasha and Clint quickly stood up and fired with their respective weapons, still taking cover behind the cab.
(Y/N), on the other hand, tried to search all over the bridge in case there were any other civilians that needed to be placed in a safe place. Her eyes set on the parked bus on the far end of the street and jumped from behind the cab to make her way over.
"I'll help these people out," she told Clint and Natasha, who heard her despite the loud noise.
"Still looking forward to seeing you in action though!" Natasha yelled out, eyes not leaving the Chitauri she was firing off.
"Keep dreaming!"
(Y/N) didn't wait for a response and ran toward the bus, which had the front door blocked out. When she got close enough, she saw how two of the passengers were trying to open it but no budge. She gestured for them to move out of the way and raised a fist to blast the door open, and it successfully worked.
"Come on, let's go," she told the passengers, which were incredibly relieved by her help.
Men, women and children were all climbing out of the bus in small groups and in calm order just like (Y/N) had instructed to defuse the fear amongst the children. Once the last of the passengers stepped into the street, she was about to suggest where they could go and hide, when several high pitched shrieks rang in her ears.
(Y/N) looked behind her shoulder just in time to see a group of several Chitauri landing by with their staffs in hand, weird growls escaping them.
The closest one to her raised its staff to fire at her but (Y/N) tugged it with her hand and brought the Chitauri closer so she could blast him off with a punch. After that, the others saw her as a threat and tried to fire too, but she was quicker and opened her arms in the air to create a blast strong enough to knock them all out.
Behind her, the passengers were either staring at her with awe or surprise, maybe a mixture of fear in between. (Y/N) grew uneasy under their gaze, but she cleared her throat and pointed to the nearest buildings and told people where to hide and to stay out of the streets until further notice.
The passengers wasted no time in following her instructions, running out of the bridge and into hiding. (Y/N) was about to leave the spot when she felt an unexpected tap on her leg that made her look down.
A girl, probably around the ages of 3 or 4, with dark brown hair and bronzed skin eyed her with a strange look of amazement. "Are you a superhero?"
(Y/N) wasn't sure how to answer. "Maybe."
The girl looked intrigued, ready to ask more questions about her when her mother realized that she wasn't following behind her and turned back around. "Kamala!"
The little girl, now named Kamala, looked back at her mother and allowed her to joist her up in her arms, but her big curious eyes never left (Y/N).
"Look, Ammi, she's a superhero!" little Kamala exclaimed in pure delight, and the mother shushed her excitement down.
(Y/N) felt her heart flutter at the young girl and how she was thrilled to have seen her, but she knew she had to get back and help the others. She flashed the mother and daughter duo another smile, and saw the way the girl waved happily at her in response.
"Stay safe!" she said, and ran away from the scene.
