"Happy first birthday, Morgan!"

(Y/N) couldn't believe it. It seemed like almost yesterday when she found out she was pregnant, and now, she's organizing her daughter's first birthday party ever. Both Tony and her wanted to make a big deal out of it, even if there was a high probability that Morgan wouldn't even remember this when she grows up. However, that didn't stop Tony from purchasing almost every party decoration from the stores, or (Y/N) from taking pictures of everything for the photo album.

The couple also called in their closest friends for the special celebration, feeling as if they needed to be included in all this. Pepper made it to the small party right on time holding a store chocolate cake in her hands. Happy barged in too, but he looked extremely apologetic when he confessed to accidentally breaking the music box he had bought for Morgan. Natasha and Rhodey were on their ridiculous feud of being Morgan's favorites, so each brought a new stuffed animal for the girl's collection. Bruce wasn't able to make it, saying that he was busy in his lab doing something important, but he sent in a birthday card in the mail.

"Oh, (Y/N), she looks just like you!" Pepper squealed of pure joy, fond eyes set on her friend.

"Really? People always say she looks like a copy of Tony," (Y/N) replied with a smile at the compliment, nodding along to Morgan's gargles when she flapped her arms in excitement.

"For the sake of humanity, let's hope not," Rhodey commented, already diving into his slice of cake.

Tony gave him a look as he placed a slice of cake onto Happy's plate. "Excuse you, humanity should be thankful if that does happen."

"Let's wish that isn't a promise that gets fulfilled," Natasha muttered with a smug grin on her lips.

(Y/N) carefully wiped the frosting off Morgan's cheeks with a napkin and brushed the loose strands of hair that had fallen over face. Tony finished filling everyone's plates with cake and moved on to serve his own, which happened to be the second one of the day.

"So," Happy dragged the 'o'. "When are you planning to give Morgan a little sibling?"

Pepper, Rhodey and Natasha all eyed Happy with looks of pure confusion. Happy seemed pleased and not at all fazed by the nature of his question, which increased the raised eyebrows. Meanwhile, Tony and (Y/N) froze on their spots, eyeing each other as if this was a conversation they'd had before.

"We're not sure," (Y/N) was the first one to respond. "I grew up with a sibling rivalry, so that's probably not something I want her to deal with."

"I grew up as an only child," Tony added after her. "And I turned out just fine. So, there really is no rush. Although β€” "

"Keep it in your pants, Stark."

"Mind your business, please."

Natasha corresponded to that action by flipping him off, which resulted in Pepper letting out a gasp of pure shock. (Y/N) had been quick to cover Morgan's eyes, though there was a chance that she wouldn't even remember anything.

"This is a kid's party!"

The small birthday party ended in a lapse of two hours, which included small conversations, more cake and another gift from Rhodey's part ( he wanted to upstage Natasha ) in her own game. Pepper had also convinced the couple in taking a picture with the birthday girl, and in the two pictures she took, Morgan was staining her parents' cheeks with the cake's frosting.

"You know, if you're invited to a party, the least you can do is help cleaning up," (Y/N) told Tony as she grabbed the plastic plates and stuffed them inside a garbage bag.

Tony was closing the cake box and placing it inside the fridge. "You sound like my mom."

"Well, she had a good point."

Their short conversation was cut off by Morgan making sounds of protest from the inside of the playpen, which made both of them snap their heads in her direction. Tony stopped (Y/N) before she could take a step forward, gesturing to finish cleaning while he went to check what was bothering their daughter.

After cleaning everything up, (Y/N) checked out the window and saw how the sun was setting in, and a frown appeared on her features. She eyed the clock on the wall, and she thought that the person she was waiting for was already coming in late because of how late it was. But that exact moment, the doorbell rang loud throughout the house.

Since she had expected this person all day, she rushed to the door with urgency. (Y/N) opened the door with enthusiasm, eager to see the person behind it. It had taken time to catch up and set a specific date for him to visit, but this was the perfect excuse for her brother to come.

Charlie's face didn't reciprocate her smile once the door was fully open. Instead, it looked guilt ridden. "I'm so sorry."

"What for?" (Y/N)'s eyebrows squinted in confusion.

"They β€” "

(Y/N)'s face fell when she heard the word 'they'; she had a clear idea of who he could be referring to, making her worst nightmare came true. She saw two figures marching up the porch, holding each other for support with smiles plastered on their faces, oblivious to the uncomfortableness they brought their own children.

"(Y/N)!" Gary, her father, yelled out with a happy tone, quite uncharacteristic of him.

(Y/N) froze in her spot. "Mom, Dad."

Ingrid, her mother, flashed a warm smile that came accompanied by a shrug. Gary held onto his wife and patted Charlie in the back as a greeting. Without asking any further, he stepped foot into the house and his head snapped in all directions to awe at the decorations of the cabin.

"Took you long enough to have us here," he continued. "Can we come in?"

(Y/N) glared at the floor tiles when she felt them walk right past her. "Well, you're already inside."

Charlie stepped inside too, and once the whole family was inside, (Y/N) closed the door behind her without locking it. She figured they wouldn't stay long for her to lock and then unlock the door again. At least she hoped so.

"What are you doing here?"

"Charlie here told us it was your daughter's birthday, so we decided to come as a surprise."

(Y/N) turned around to give Charlie a glare. He raised his hands in defense, shaking his head to silently say that he wasn't a part of their parents plan. Meanwhile, her parents were striding into her home like they owned the place, inspecting the family pictures, the paintings on the walls and even the decoration pieces. Tony, who had heard all the ruckus from the couch, got up from his spot, set Morgan down on the playpen and peaked in to see what was going on.

When he caught (Y/N)'s frantic eyes, he silently asked her what was wrong and all she could do was gesture at the elderly couple gawking at the family pictures behind her. Despite her anxiety, (Y/N) was able to see how Tony's face turned sour, seemingly remembering his previous encounters with her family.

She cleared her throat to catch their attention. "You see, now's not a really good time β€” "

"Come on, (Y/N)," Gary snapped his head from staring at pictures to her. His eyes fell on Tony standing next to his daughter and they had that typical angry blaze on them. "We're the girl's only living grandparents. It seemed appropriate for us to be here."

"You're unbelievable," Tony scoffed under his breath with a shake of his head, not caring if it was loud enough to hear.

Gary seemed rather pleased that Tony gave him a reason to focus on him, fire at the ready. "Stark."

"Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn," Tony corresponded with a sarcastic grin. "It's good to see you. How long has it been? Since the '89?"

"Yeah," Gary nodded along with the same tone. "Ever since that memorial."

"Huh. Funny how fast time flies."

A minute of silence passed and (Y/N) could cut the tension with the knife. If looks could kill, her father already would've been six feet under because of the concentrated glare he was giving Gary.

"Okay, you came in, said your hello's," she clasped her hands together. " I think it's time you leave."

"But we haven't even seen our granddaughter yet," Ingrid protested with a weak finger.

Charlie shielded Morgan with his own body, reaching out to grab her from the playpen. He carefully placed her on his hip and gave (Y/N) a knowing look from across the room. She understood right away, his nod giving away his intentions. All she could do was mouth a simple 'thank you' as he exited the room with Morgan in his arms, obviously trying to prevent her from hearing the dispute that would unfold any time now.

"And you won't."

"(Y/N), I'm old and you're not a teenager," Gary tried to reason. "I don't want to fight."

"Exactly. I'm not a teenager to put up with your bullshit anymore," (Y/N) snapped after keeping her anger under lock and key. "I finally have the courage to tell you to leave before you mess up the only good thing in my life."

"(Y/N) Ingrid Vaughn, don't you dare talk to your father like that," her own mother jumped to his defense. Her arms were crossed defensively over her chest. "We want to be a part of your family too."

"Oh, because you so deserve that, don't you?"

"What is that supposed to mean?"

"I mean, having me as a daughter didn't seem to work out like you had planned, right? So now you're here so you can control every aspect of my daughter's life to make up for it. To hell with that!" (Y/N) didn't know how she mustered enough courage to say that, but she was glad she was still talking. "I am standing up to you right now before it's too late like it was for me. I will not let you feed Morgan the exact same sexist ideals you tried to feed me."

"They're not 'sexist' like you people try to call everything nowadays!" Gary raised his volume. "It's the truth based on scientific facts!"

"Okay, enough of this."

Tony stood in front of his wife in a protective manner. (Y/N) tried to stop him from saying anything, since this was her battle to fight, but it was too late. He was already standing inches away from Gary's face.

"Mr. Vaughn, with all due respect, and I mean that very insincerely, how we raise our daughter is none of your business," he began. "(Y/N) and I are Morgan's parents, not you, so you can remove your nosy self out of our lives now, Pinocchio."

"Morgan will grow up fully supported whether she decides to become a pilot like her mother, or an engineer like me," he flashed his classic grin. "Hell, she'll probably want to be a princess and I'll be there for her."

Gary stayed eerily silent. It was almost concerning. This was the longest he had ever stayed without uttering utter none sense, and it was odd for (Y/N) to presence. She snaked her hand down until she grabbed Tony's, squeezing it as a gesture of appreciation.

"Thanks for the visit, but I don't think we'll see you around anymore."

Tony removed his hand from (Y/N)'s and headed toward the door, smiling when he noticed it hadn't been locked. He opened it wide enough for the air breeze to fly inside, extending his arm out as an invitation to follow his request. Gary and Ingrid hadn't moved an inch, looking at each other as if they were waiting for the other to take charge.

"Come on, we don't have all day," Tony told them with his patience running out. "I have a metal suit and I'm not afraid to use it!"

Gary and Ingrid were obligated to head over to the door. Tony flashed one last grin as they passed him on the way out. Without hesitation, Tony closed the door behind them, making a loud noise that shook the house to its core. (Y/N) was still standing in her original spot, too in shock to speak.

Charlie peeked his head in the room with an already asleep Morgan in his arms. His eyes were alert, seemingly prepared to face his parents, but relaxed once he saw that it was only (Y/N) and Tony.

"Are they. . ."

"Kicked them out."

"Oh. Nice," he made his way to (Y/N) with an apologetic look. "Again, I'm so sorry."

(Y/N) took Morgan out of his arms, careful enough not to wake her up. Once her head was comfortably settled on her shoulder, she spoke up, "How'd they find out in the first place?"

"I was wrapping my gift, and you know how Mom is, always up my business," Charlie explained. "Didn't leave me alone until I told them. I'm sorry."

(Y/N) shrugged him off. "Don't worry. It's not our fault we have nosy parents."

"God, what did we do to have them?"

"Who knows."

Tony made his way over to (Y/N), silently cooing down at sleeping Morgan before turning his attention back to Charlie. "Wanna stay for dinner?"

"I wish I could, but I have to go," Charlie pressed his lips into a thin line and gestured toward the door, indicating his reason why he was leaving.

"Oh, you don't have to β€” "

"I was their ride here, so yeah."

(Y/N)'s words died on her throat at his words. She was looking forward to seeing him again after hearing that he had survived what people were calling 'The Blip', and her parents had to screw everything up. It had taken a while to schedule this meeting, and now they were going to take another lapse of time before they saw each other again.

"Well, get home safe," she told him. "Call me when you arrive."

"You got it," Charlie started to make his way to the door, but he halted on his steps. "Oh! One last thing."

"What?"

"I'm the godfather, right?"
