(Y/N) would've wished she sat back and enjoy the moment she was living right now. After successfully defeating the Kree with the help of the Skrulls and a pair of old friends, she and the others gathered around the dinner table in Maria Rambeau's house to eat a home cooked meal.

Maria and Fury were bickering about something while the leader of the Skrulls, Talos, and his wife. sat back in their chairs in their own conversation. Monica, Maria's daughter, was sitting by the stairs with Talos's daughter.

"I'd say you arrived just in time," Maria placed her cup into the table.

"Some nifty flying you did out there," Fury pointed out, his own glass in his hand. "S.H.I.E.L.D. could always use a good pilot like you."

"I'll consider it — as long as you never call my flying 'nifty' again," Maria answered before her eyes narrowed into concern. "How's your eye?"

"Hmm," (Y/N)'s eyes fell to the scar in Fury's left eye as he answered. "Getting better every second."

(Y/N) looked to her right and saw how Carol stared off like she was in her own train of thoughts, one of her arms resting in the back of her chair.

"Just so I'm clear," Carol spoke up, drawing everyone's attention. "You were Soh-Larr and the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent?"

"Keller," Fury corrected, all eyes now on Talos. "He tied my boss up, stole his identity."

"I borrowed his likeness," Talos defended himself. "I'm not thief."

"It's a little like stealing," his wife muttered out silently with a hint of a smile.

Talos looked back at her in betrayal. "Who's side are you on?"

(Y/N) couldn't stop the smile that popped in her lips at the sight of them. She'd been fighting in the wrong side of a war for far too long, and it was comforting to see the Skrulls finally receiving some sort of peace.

Fury laid back in his chair. "You're good to go here until you recover. . .but you and your family are gonna need a new look."

"I could go back to being your boss," Talos suggested.

"Uh, please don't."

"Come on," the Skrull groaned. "I loved sporting his beautiful blue eyes."

This had (Y/N) drift off and stop listening for a second, thinking of what she would do now that she was her own person and free from the Kree. Fury had offered her a spot in his area of work, saying something between the lines of 'it would be fun to have you around' but she wasn't that convinced.

"I'll help you find a home," Carol announced. "Finish what Mar-Vell started."

"They can stay here with us," Monica spoke up, walking down from the stairs right into her mother's lap. "Can't they, mom?"

"They won't be safe here, baby," Maria told her solemnly, rubbing her back. "Auntie Carol's right. They need their own home."

Carol met her eye. "I'll be back before you know it."

"Or maybe I could fly up and meet you halfway?" Monica offered with a toothy grin.

"Ah, only if you learn to glow like your Aunties Carol and (Y/N)," Fury reasoned with her.

"Or maybe I'll build a spaceship," Monica replied back. "You don't know!"

"He doesn't," (Y/N) answered with a grin, one that was met by Fury's accusing stare. She let out a small laugh and giving Monica a wink after seeing that it made her crack up too.

"What about you, Auntie (Y/N)?" Monica asked. "Are you leaving too?"

"I'm not leaving this planet for a while, that's for sure," she said. "I'll go with Fury. He needs some babysitting."

After dinner, Carol, (Y/N) and Fury all stayed back to wash the dishes in the kitchen. Comfortable silence was amongst the trio, along with bubbles of soap floating around as they washed the dishes and placed them down.

"Keep the Tesseract on Earth," Carol spoke up first. "Hidden."

"You sure that's what Marvel would want?" Fury asked as he dried another plate that (Y/N) passed him.

"Mar-Vell," Carol corrected.

"That's what I said."

"No, you didn't," (Y/N) defended. "It's two separate words. Mar. Vell."

"'Mar-Vell'," Fury repeated slowly before shrugging. "Marvel sounds a lot better. You know, like the Marvelettes."

He grabbed the brush on the counter and used it as a microphone as he began to sing the chorus from Mr. Postman from the Marvelletes. Carol and (Y/N) only stared at him like he'd lost his mind.

Fury dropped the brush. "Not ringing any bells?"

"Keep singing. Maybe it'll come back to me," Carol sassed back with a smug grin.

After that, Carol pulled the transmitter pager from her jeans, a red, blue and gold symbol being on the screen. It was connected so Fury or (Y/N) could call back on Carol whenever needed.

"I upgraded it," she began, but a clear of (Y/N)'s throat made her correct herself. "Fine, (Y/N) upgraded it. Range sound be a couple of galaxies, at least."

Fury reached out to grab it, but Carol pulled back before his fingertips even touched it.

"What? You think I'm gonna crank call you?" Fury questioned incredulously.

Carol eyed him. "For emergencies only, okay?"

"Well, if you're ever passing back through this galaxy — be sure to give a brother a shout."

"She'll be back for me, Nick," (Y/N) scoffed. "Don't get your hopes up."

"What did I say about you calling me Nick?"

It was time to say goodbye. Maria, (Y/N) and Carol were all on the outside of the house as they waited for Monica, who had said she had a goodbye gift for both of them.

Monica walked down the stairs of the porch holding two aviators' jackets, one in her right forearm and the other in her left one.

"We got the ketchup stain off," she sheepishly said, handing Carol the one that belonged to her.

"Thanks, Lieutenant Trouble," Carol placed hers on.

Monica shared a look with her mother before taking a step towards (Y/N) and extending the aviator's jacket in her direction, and the woman felt her heart melt at the gesture.

"Some of the badges are a little washed off, sorry," Monica winced in embarrassment.

(Y/N) noticed that some of the badges the jacket had imprinted were in fact, washed off a bit. For example, the one on the left shoulder had only two letters visible, the S and the I. It didn't matter to her, though, she knew she would treasure it forever.

"An old friend of yours gave it to me after the crash," Maria explained. "Said I would take much more care for it."

"Hmm."

There came that silence again. Maria was staring at her two best friends with teary and red eyes, swallowing the lump in her throat because she was going to watch them leave for the second time.

"It's hard for me to say goodbye, too," Carol broke the silence, a warm smile in her lips.

"Go on," Maria encouraged.

With those words leaving her lips, Carol ran far ahead in the grass to grab speed before jumping into the air with a cheerful scream. The yellow light trailed behind her as she gained altitude and disappeared into a thin line of light.

"Auntie Carol's always one for dramatics."
