❝CHAPTER NINETEEN❞

▌𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐍𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐧 ━︎━︎ 𝐘𝐨𝐮'𝐫𝐞 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐌𝐲 𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 ▌

━︎━︎━︎━︎𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐕𝐄'𝐒 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐃𝐒 𝐑𝐄𝐏𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐃 in her head. Had he been right? Had she simply tried to kill him because she didn't want to disappoint the one person that had made her who she was? Laying there in the hospital bed, Liliya's thoughts were all over the place. She couldn't think straight. Her head was pounding, her heart was racing, her hand was fading in and out like she was going to disappear in the matter of seconds. God, she wished she could disappear.

Liliya stared up at the ceiling, the only noise coming from the heart monitor that they still had her hooked up to. Her IV was no longer in her arm because she had decided to rip it out―︎not that it had hurt whatsoever because the needle just phased through her body. She hadn't a clue how she was still lying on the bed and hadn't fallen through it yet. She wanted to get up and do something, but she knew that as soon as she unhooked the heart monitor, it would alert the doctors and Dr. Von would be running her way.

They were studying her, watching her. Liliya wasn't dumb. She knew these things. They could've made it more subtle if she was being honest. That's probably why they sent her out on the missions and not these idiots. She had an easier chance at surviving a zombie apocalypse than anyone else in this building, including Dr. Von herself. The girl sighed, wishing that they had put a television or something in here to give her some form of entertainment. Hell, she would be happy with a deck of cards, she's been meaning to work on her card tricks.

The sound of footsteps approaching her caused the blonde to boredly turn her head so that she could look out the door. A blank look was on her face as she watched a doctor appear in the doorway. The dark haired woman went to open her mouth but Liliya raised up a hand, silencing her, silently telling her to get on with it. The doctor walked over to her, checked her vitals, took some blood samples―︎after struggling for the needle to actually enter her arm three different times―︎and tested her strength. The same thing they've been doing for two solid days now. It was getting old quickly.

Once the doctor scurried away―︎she looked like a mouse running from a cat, it wasn't like Liliya could exactly attack her at the moment. Well, she could attack her, but she wouldn't. She didn't want to get experimented on again. Not moments after the doctor left, Dr. Von made her appearance. The woman stood in the doorway, hands clasped together as she placed them in front of her. Liliya just looked at her with a bored expression before turning her head so that she could look back up at the ceiling that was more interesting to look at than Dr. Von's entire existence.

Dr. Von watched the blonde woman for a moment and she could tell that something was up with her. Sighing, the older woman made her way into the hospital room, closing the door behind her so that the two would have privacy. "Something's on your mind. I can tell." She moved so that she was standing a few feet away from Liliya's bed side. The assassin had yet to turn her attention away from the ceiling up above, Dr. Von was curious to know if there was something so interesting about the ceiling that she was missing.

"A lot is on my mind." Liliya hummed, slowly dragging her eyes away from the ceiling to look at the woman that had made her. She looked the woman up and down and suddenly a flare of disgusts vibrated through her body. Disgust and a bit of anger. She forced herself not to show any of these emotions, keeping the bored look on her face as she turned her eyes back towards the ceiling. "What brings you here, Doc? You here to check up on me? 'Cause I hate to tell you, but your doctors beat you to it."

"Yes, they may have checked your vitals and all, kept their eyes on the things the experiment is doing to your body, but they're not here to check on your mentality." Dr. Von answered her bluntly. She walked closer, reaching out and placing a hand on her shoulder. "So, let me ask you. How are you doing, Liliya? I know this change is going to be hard for you to process, but it's for the better." Liliya had to refrain herself from rolling her eyes. "You can talk to me, you know that. I'm basically your mother."

"But you're not my mother." Liliya whispered, jaw clenching as she let her anger line her face. "You had her killed. My father too. Do you know what that does to a person?" She didn't look at her. "I guess you don't. You've never had someone rip you from the arms of your mother. From your family. You took me as a little girl, you forced me into a house filled with children that wanted to kill me. You made me who I am today." Not once did her voice raise. She kept her voice level and steady.

"And you think I'm ashamed of that?" Dr. Von asked.

"I know you're not." Liliya answered.

"I am proud of what I have accomplished. You are proof of what I have accomplished. You should be proud of yourself."

"For what?" Liliya asked, finally turning her head to look at her. "For letting you manipulate me? For being your first experiment. Look what you did to me!" Her voice was louder now as she sat up, heart monitor taken off her body. "I can't even stay a solid figure anymore! You've destroyed me!"

"I made you better!"

"I didn't want to be better!" Liliya cried, tears in her eyes. Her emotions were taking over her, something she hasn't truly let happen since Katrine taught her how to shut them off. "I wanted to be a kid, but you didn't let me. I can never, will never, forgive you for that."

Dr. Von straightened her shoulders. "I don't need your forgiveness. I'm doing what's right."

"Taking children from their families and pitting them against each other is right?" Liliya questioned. She forced herself to stand up. Regular clothes were now placed on her body from where she had convinced Dr. Von to bring her some the night prior. "I was five! Five! You took me from my parents who you manipulated into believing I would be safe with you. They trusted you! I trusted you!" A tear fell down her cheek. "You're the reason I can't ever trust anyone again." Without a warning, Liliya stepped forwards, grabbing roughly onto Dr. Von before shoving her towards the wall and slamming her head against it. She watched as the woman fell down to the floor, limp. Staring down at her for a moment, Liliya wiped away her tears and made her second attempt at an escape.
