choosing fonts
I feel like a lot of designers struggle with choosing fonts.
This is maybe controversial but...I don't really struggle?
(That's because I'm not creative and use 10 same fonts)
first things first, let's get this clear:

everyone says "font" including me, but you should know that proper terminology is typeface. So, Arial is typeface and Arial Italic is a font.
I'll be talking about serif and sans serif fonts so this should help:

There are two requirements you need to follow
1. Text needs to be readable. That's the whole point, duh. I think that's pretty self explanatory, if you can't read what it says - don't use it.
That means i don't want to see ugly picsart fonts.
2. Theme. This isn't Met Gala, you need to follow the theme.
Take a look at this:

Same text, but different meaning.
Now, we'll look at 3 genres and what type of typefaces they use.
action
San Serif, usually bold typefaces dominate.
romance / YA
As you can see, variety of typefaces are used here. Script, serif, sans serif...
fantasy
In fantasy genre, most used are thinner, serif typefaces.
In conclusion: you won't use cursive typefaces for action covers. and you won't use goth fonts for romance.
there are so many beautiful fonts and i don't wanna see you using these
