CHAPTER ONE
A few years had passed since Stefan saved her from her father. She had moved to New York and adopted a new name. Margot Salvatore.
She was 17 now. The same age as her father figure. Technically.
Stefan Salvatore, the man who saved her, is a vampire. A 162-year-old one at that. Stefan was kind, he made her feel safe which was something she hadn't felt for a long time. He knew what she was and he didn't care.
"We're all monsters in our own way, Maggie. We just can't them take over," he would tell her after she lost control.
Now as she was walking through time square her phone rang. Margot glanced down at the screen, seeing the contact 'bunny muncher' before answering.
"Hey, Stef. What's up?"
"Are you still in New York, Maggs?"
"Yeah? I'm just taking a walk. Why?"
His voice sounded different. Tenser as if it were forced.
"I need you to meet me in Mystic Falls."
"Mystic Falls? Stef, you hate it there, you said you were never going back."
The vampire sighed, "I know. Just come, please."
Margot glanced at her watch, noticing how late she was, "Alright... Are you okay? You sound scared."
"I'm okay, sweetheart. I love you."
"I love you too."
— — —
It was odd being back in Mystic Falls. Margot thought she would never go back, not after one of the tomb vampires tried to kill her. That was the first night she used her powers.
She hated them. She hated what she was. How could she not? It was all she was ever taught.
She sighed, glancing down at her hands before shoving them in her coat pockets as she walked inside the Salvatore boarding house.
"Margot is that you?" Stefan's voice filled her ears as she heard him tumble down the stairs.
"Mhm. I missed you," she whispers as she embraces him, his arms quickly wrapping around her waist. "I missed you too, sweetheart. How was New York?"
"Boring."
"I thought you met a girl? What was her name again... Bella? No... Brie."
"Things got too complicated so we decided we were better of as friends."
Stefan glanced down at her, his eyes filled with compassion. "I'm sorry, baby. I know how much you liked her."
Margot sighed, sending him a smile, "So, why did you call me to this stupid town?"
"Elena was kidnapped... Again."
She almost laughed. She loved Elena to bits but god was that girl a magnet to danger. "Again? Didn't she just get kidnapped last week?"
"She did... This time it's more serious though, Mag. Whoever is after Katherine, is after Elena and we think they have her."
Margot nodded, "I'll need to... you know."
Stefan stretched out his hand, letting her hold onto his palm a blue glow emitting from the touch. She only took what she needed before she quickly let go of him. She hated hurting him but it was the only way.
"I'll need something of hers. A hairbrush, picture, Jeremy if he's willing to do a blood donation."
"He's already on his way."
— — —
As soon as Margot had located Elena, her, Stefan and Damon left the boarding house. It was a long drive and an uncomfortable one at that. Margot was stuck in the very small backseat while Stefan and Damon sat in the front.
"So what's our plan of attack?"
Both brothers stayed silent, each continuing to stare at the road.
"Wait, you're telling me we are going in blind with no plan? Are you trying to get us killed?"
Damon scoffs, "We have a plan... I'm thinking of one right now."
"Hey, how much further is it?" Stefan asked as he played with a grenade.
"About 80 miles," Margot answered as she looked down at the map. "Who do you think took her? Why go after Elena and not Katherine?"
"Idiocy maybe? They got the wrong girl."
Stefan glanced back at Margot and Damon, "Thank you. Both of you. For helping me."
"Can we not do the whole road trip bonding thing? The cliche of it all makes me sick."
Margot chuckled at her 'uncle', "Oh Damon, how I missed your dramatics."
"Missed you too, kid."
She sent a smile his way before turning back to watch the trees go by, looking for shapes in the clouds. Clouds were an odd thing to her. So was the sun. The outdoors were odd in general. Being a (partial) witch she loved nature, nature, however, didn't share that affection. She couldn't use the elements to her advantage like normal witches, she had tried, but she never succeeded.
Witches all around the globe hated her kind. They could sense her from a mile away as though they were dogs. Luckily for her, her old friend Bonnie Bennett had yet to earn that skill, her grams, however, well that was a different story.
As Stefan spoke up, Damon sped past yet another red light, "According to the map we're getting close. Jeremy said there is an access road just past mile marker six."
The blue-eyed man nodded. "Hey, Maggs? Can you hand me one of those bags?"
The girl frowned slightly as she picked up a blood bag before handing it to him. "You store these in your car? Shouldn't you at least have a cooler?"
He smirked, "I like it warm. Tastes more... Fresh." When he sees her mimic the action of puking he smiles before looking at Stefan, "If you want some, just ask."
"I want some."
"Aw that's so sweet, don't you think, Margot? He wants to be all big and strong to save his girl. Don't worry, Maggs and I have your back, you'll be fine."
"I'm not joking. I've been drinking a little every day. Been slowly increasing my intake and building up my strength."
Margot stared at her father, her eyes filled with pride. When she first met him, he was a ripper. She knew that the second she saw what was left of her fathers body when she walked past the living room.
Most children would have been horrified at the sight of their father, sitting on the couch, blood covering his body as his head threatened to fall off his body, but Margot, Margot smiled. She thanked Stefan actually. Though she was a little jealous he got the kill.
Stefan immediately took a liking to the girl. She reminded him of himself, his human self of course though at times his vampire self.
"Since we're bonding. Remember the days when all you lived for was blood? You were the guy that would rip someone apart just for the fun of it."
Margot rolled her eyes. Stefan did the same. "You mean when I was more like you?"
"Yes, Stefan, exactly. Back when you put blood into me so I could be the big, bad vampire. What happened to that guy? He was a hoot."
The younger brother glanced at Margot through the mirror, "Guess he found something else to live for."
Damon fought the smile that threatened to appear on his lips. Though he would never say it, he was happy Stefan had Margot. He was happy he had Margot. She was like a breath of fresh air. She wasn't annoying like most witches and didn't need to be saved all the time. She was like his little sister.
— — —
As the three Salvatore's got out of Damon's car, Damon glanced at the pair who were arming themselves with Alaric's weapons. "House should be just beyond those trees... I've got more experience than both of you with this sort of thing."
Margot looked back at him, "So, what's your point?"
"My point is whoever has Elena is probably who was after Katherine in 1864 and before that. That puts them at 500 years old and strong. You sure you wanna do this?"
"Yeah, I'm certain I wanna do it," Stefan answered.
Damon sighed, "Because if we go in that house we may not come back out."
"Alright, then I won't come out. As long as Margot and Elena are safe, I don't care what happenes to me."
"So noble, Stefan."
Stefan scoffed before walking off, leaving Margot with Damon. "Kid, wait," He said, stopping her from leaving as well.
"What?"
"Are you sure you want to do this? Your da- Stefan and I can take care of this on our own. You could wait in the car, watch a movie maybe?"
"I'm coming, Damon. Besides, if I don't, who is going to stop you from killing yourselves?"
He smiled, putting his arm around her shoulder as he leads her to the house, "Good point."
— — —
Before they entered the house, Stefan had Margot siphon him. He didn't want her to go powerless.
The interior of the house was old, ancient almost. The wallpaper was practically non-existent as it shredded from the walls. Every couple of floorboards squeaked as they stepped on them. Margot was just thankful she brought her inhaler due to the sheer amount of dust in the room.
She had been asthmatic for quite a few years, she never found out until Stefan found her, unable to breathe, coughing her lungs out in their apartment in London. It was from her father, like the rest of her problems. When he kept her in that basement, he would occasionally turn off the power which limited the airflow in the sealed room. She would go hours on end, sitting by the single vent trying to breathe in the little air she got.
They were hidden behind a couple of pillars on the second floor of the main entrance as she took a deep breath through her inhaler before nodding at Stefan. Stefan nodded before grabbing onto a brick and throwing it across the room, the act alerting any other vampire in the house of their arrival.
"Up here," Stefan calls, alerting Elena and the intruder of his presence.
The man sped up the stairs only to see nothing.
"Down here," Damon called.
Margot glanced down before shooting a small stake into the oddly attractive man's hand. Though instead of groaning in pain he only glares at the wound before pulling out the stake.
When he looked back up though, Elena was gone. She now stood beside Margot who held her in her arms protectively while Stefan and Damon continued to taunt the older vampire.
Elena stared at the girl in shock, her mouth opening to say something though Margot quickly stopped her.
"Excuse me! To whom it may concern. You're making a grave mistake if you think you can beat me. You can't. You hear that? I repeat you can not beat me. So, I want the girl on the count of three. Or heads will roll."
Margot sighed, staring at Elena as the girl took in heavy breaths. She sighed, rubbing her hands along the human's arms in an attempt to calm her. When that didn't help she leaned in, her lips close to Elena's ear as she whispered, "You're safe with me, Lena. Don't worry."
Elena shakily nodded, her breath hitching slightly at the other woman's actions. She pulled the girl back in before whispering, "I have a plan. Do you trust me?"
Margot nodded. Of course she trusted her. They were friends.
Elena slowly walked out of the safe haven that was Margot's arms before standing at the top of the staircase, "I'll come with you. Just please don't hurt my friends. They just wanted to help me out."
The vampire turned to face her before speeding in front of her, earning a gasp from her.
"What game are you playing with me?" He questioned though instead of answering Elena through a vervain grenade in his face.
The man growled, glaring at Elena as he stood up once again. But, before he could get close to her Margot walked in front of her before shooting two stakes into his stomach.
The man grunted before tackling her down the stairs. "Dimiterre!" She yelled, shooting the man backwards.
Before he could get up, Stefan sped out, throwing yet another grenade at him as Damon shot at him.
He stayed down for a moment, letting them think he won before speeding back up and grabbing onto Margot. The girl grunted in his grip. He held onto her tightly, the act reminding her of her father which immediately pissed her off.
She places her hands on his arms before a blue glow emitted earning screams from the man, "Don't touch women, asshole."
As soon as she was out of his touch Damon grabbed a coat stand before stabbing it into the man's heart, his dead body pressed against the door.
Margot stared at his body as she brushed herself off, "What a dick."
Elena smiled. She had missed the girl. So instead of hugging Stefan, she ran into Margot's arms. "Thank you for saving me, Maggs."
The siphoner sent a smirk to Stefan who rolled his eyes. She chuckled before mouthing "did I just steal your girlfriend?"
— — —
Margot had been the one to bring Elena home. She knew the girl didn't feel safe. Elena also insisted she felt safest with her.
Margot practically carried her through the doorway of the Gilbert home, alerting Jeremy and Bonnie of their presence, and the pair both ran down.
"Oh my god is she okay?" Jeremy asked, his voice filled with fear when he saw the witch holding what appeared to be his unconscious sister.
"She's fine. Just tired. She had a long day," She answered, gesturing to the blood that stained the doppelganger's clothing. She glanced at the pair, "I'm just gonna take her upstairs..."
Jeremy and Bonnie nodded, letting the girl move past.
As soon as she set Elena down, the girl woke up, her doe brown eyes staring up at Margot's. "I really did miss you, Maggs."
Margot sent the girl a smile as she pulled up a chair which caused a frown to form on the human's face, "What are you doing?"
Margot glanced down at the chair confused, "I'm sleeping? Do you not want me to stay still?"
Elena chuckled, her hands grasping Margot's before pulling her into bed, "I wanted you to sleep in my bed, silly. Just like old times."
