CHAPTER FOUR
Margot had spent the majority of the day with Elena in an attempt to keep her away from the tomb per Stefan's request. They had done everything young teenage girls did at sleepovers including boy talk/girl talk, movies, food (of course) and shit-talking Damon.
Now, after four movies the girls had decided to go downstairs and see Jenna after they heard her start banging around.
"Hey, what are you doing?" Elena asked as she watched her aunt pull boxes out of the closet.
The woman smiled, "Oh perfect timing. Hey, Margot."
The siphoner sent her a smile as she took one of the boxes from the strawberry blonde's hands. "What is all this stuff?"
"Elena's mom's files from the historical society. I got roped into helping Mrs. Lockwood-" she paused before quickly restating her sentence, "And by roped I mean I'm very excited to participate."
Jenna grinned as she stood up, closing the closet door only to reveal Elijah. Elena gasped, dropping a book from her hands while Margot glared at him.
"Hey, I'm Elijah," He greeted nonchalantly like he hadn't tried to kill them only a few days prior.
He noticed as Margot rolled her eyes, a small grin appearing on his face. He liked her sass. It reminded him of someone.
"Elijah's in town doing research on Mystic Falls," Jenna informed as she took the box from Margot's arms before walking into the kitchen, leaving Elijah alone with the two girls.
"It's a pleasure," He said as he held his hand out to Elena who reluctantly shook it before he turned to Margot, only for her to shake her head, "Germaphobe, sorry."
He only grinned as he put his hand down, holding it by his side, "Of course."
Jenna walked back into the hallway, standing beside Elena as she said, "So, you're welcome to stay here and rummage through this stuff. Or Maggie, Elena and I can help you load it into your car."
"Yeah, or I can get someone to pick it up tomorrow."
She smiled, "Heh. Also a good plan."
He moved to walk past them, "Well, thank you so much for inviting me into your home, Jenna. And Margot, I hope to see you soon."
The witch only rolled her eyes as the vampire walked out, Elena running up the stairs the second he did so while Jenna smiled at her. "He totally has the hots for you."
Margot chuckled, "Too bad for him. I'm not into the whole goody-two-shoes act. I'll be upstairs, see you for dinner, Jenna."
As soon as the siphoner got up the stairs she noticed Elijah holding Elena against the wall. "Really? Do you want me to hurt you that badly?" She asked as she walked closer.
He smiled at her, gently letting Elena go not wanting to be siphoned again. He had experienced many pains in his life and the worst ones were being daggered and being siphoned.
"Good boy. Now let's have a civil chat in Elena's room."
— — —
"Forgive the intrusion. I mean your family no harm," He said as he studied the doppelgangers bedroom.
"Why did you kill those vampires when they tried to take me?" Elena questioned as she closed the door, Margot standing by her side.
"Because I didn't want you to be taken. Klaus is the most feared and hated of the Originals, but those that fear him are desperate for his approval. If word gets out that the doppelgänger exists, there'll be a line of vampires eager to take you to him and I can't have that."
The brunette frowned, "Isn't that exactly what you're trying to do?"
"Let's just say that my goal is not to break the curse."
Margot scoffed, "Then what is your goal?"
"Klaus' obsession has made him paranoid. He's a recluse. He trusts only those in his immediate circle," Elijah explained as he sat down on her window seat, looking at the pictures on the girl's wall, and noticing a picture of Margot kissing a blonde girl. "You have a girlfriend?"
Margot smiled, "No. That's our best friend Caroline. It was a dare and we were both drunk. See that picture? That's Elena and Bonnie the same night."
The doppelganger blushed madly. She hadn't even realized Caroline had put those pictures up. "You're changing the subject. You said Klaus has an inner circle with only a few people he trusts. You're one of them?"
"Not anymore."
"You don't know where he is, do you? So you're trying to use me to draw him out."
He stared at her for a moment before he spoke, "Well, to do that I need you to stay put and stop trying to get yourself killed."
"How do we know you're telling the truth?" Margot questioned, her eyes narrow.
"If I wasn't being truthful, all of Elena's family would be dead and I'd be taking her to Klaus right now. Instead, I'm here and I'm prepared to offer you a deal."
"What kind of a deal?"
Elijah glanced at Elena, "Do nothing. Do nothing, live your life, stop fighting and then, when the time is right, you and I shall draw out Klaus together and I shall make sure your friends remain unharmed. Including you, Margot. I know he'll want to take you."
"And then what?"
"Then I kill him."
"Just like that?" She asked skeptically.
"Just like that. I'm a man of my word, Elena. I make a deal, I keep a deal."
"How are you gonna be able to keep everybody safe?"
"I notice you have a friend; Bonnie, is it? She seems to possess the gift of magic. I have friends with similar gifts. I assume you wouldn't like to meet them, Margot?"
"You assumed correctly," She answered as he spoke up again, "Together, we can protect everybody that matters to you. So, do we have a deal?"
"I need you to do one more thing for me," Elena said, earning a confused look from Margot and Elijah.
"We're negotiating now?"
— — —
Margot walked beside Elijah through the forest, towards the tomb.
"What did you mean when you said Klaus would want me?" She asked as she rubbed her arms, the cold air nipping at her uncovered skin.
"You're a very powerful being, Margot. There are not many like you, in fact, I've never met one even remotely similar to you." He answered as he took off his suit jacket, placing it over the girl's shoulders.
"Thank you," She whispered as she pulled the coat closer. "How am I powerful? I don't even have magic of my own?"
"There are legends. Myths even of a being that is both witch and vampire, a heretic if you will. It is said that she will be the one to end us all. Klaus being who he is, will want you on his side."
"And how does one become a heretic?"
"Any siphoner can be turned into one. It's the same process as normal. However, when you wake, you would no longer have to siphon as you would have a constant source of magic," He explained as they walked past a few more trees, as he tracked Stefan and Katherine's scents.
"I've read about heretics before. There was a coven of them in the early 1900s. How am I any different from them?"
"Your magic. It's blue, isn't it? When you siphon someone... when you perform a powerful spell... Normal siphoner's powers are red, yours, however, are different."
"Okay? How do you know that isn't due to the high amount of blue playdough I consumed as a child?"
Elijah stopped walking, instead, he turned to face her. "You... ate playdough as a child?"
"Mhm. And crayons. You're telling me you didn't?"
"Playdough wasn't a thing of my time but I am sure that even if it was, I would not have eaten it."
"Right, I forgot you're old... and boring. Are we almost at the tomb? My legs are getting sore."
As soon as she said that, the tomb came into sight. She immediately ran towards it, Stefan already waiting at the doorway for her. "Maggie? What are you doing here? And with Elijah?"
"Your release has been requested," The Original answered for her as Katherine slowly walked out behind the Salvatore.
"What? By who?" Stefan asked, glancing between Margot and Elijah.
"The lovely Elena drives a hard bargain. However, we reached a peaceful agreement, she and I. Margot, if you may?"
The siphoner smiled as she placed her hands on the cold stone before she began to siphon the spell. As soon as she no longer felt the energy of the spell, her hands dropped before she was quickly embraced by Stefan who was no longer kept inside the tomb.
Elijah smiled at the pair before his face went back to its stone-like expression as he stared at Katherine. "As for you, however, you should not exit until I say so. When Klaus comes, he'll want to know exactly where you are."
He glanced back at Margot and Stefan, "You're free to go. Elena and Margot will explain the arrangement to you. If Elena keeps her word, I'll keep mine."
As the vampire sped out of the tomb Katherine pleaded, "Stefan, no. Please don't let him leave me here."
Stefan only smiled as he wrapped his arm around Margot's shoulder. "Goodbye, Katherine."
— — —
"Hey, Margot?" Stefan asked suddenly as they were sitting in the parlour, both sipping on some bourbon, Margot reading a book while Stefan wrote in his journal.
"Yeah?" She answered as she set down her book.
"While I was in the tomb I had a lot of time to think..."
"Oh that's always dangerous," She teased, earning a chuckle.
"We've known each other for three years. You've been living with me through those years... I think of you as my own and you've called me dad... Will you- Can I adopt you?"
"Please say yes! He's been stressed for the past hour!" Damon yelled from his bedroom causing the girl to laugh.
"Shut up Damon!"
Margot smiled as she moved to sit next to him before pulling him into a hug, "I'd love that, Dad."
"Fucking finally," Muttered Damon not knowing Stefan and Margot planned to attack him with water balloons while he was sleeping.
