Jung Miae's POV
I groaned, scrunching the paper and throwing it across the room, and ran my fingers through my hair.ย
"Everything alright in here?" my dad voiced, knocking on the door with a box in his arms. I nodded, sighing and removing my glasses, as I tossed another paper ball away.
"What's up, bub?" my dad probed, taking the seat near me, and reached for my hand, placing the box on the floor.
"It's just, the exams are coming up, we're moving tomorrow, and I haven't even started packing yet."
"Don't worry so much, Miae. Sometimes, let us handle all that."
"You told Mom?"
"Yeah, she's kinda hesitant about leaving Itaewon, moving and living with us. I mean, she would love to live with us, but she grew up here," he explained, gesturing to the lively neighbourhood outside the window beside us.
"Alright, leave that. What about you, what's going on?" I quizzed, resting my head on my hand as my elbows propped me on the table.
"Well, I met someone today, at a restaurant. Said he was the owner when I greeted him at the entrance. We had a few drinks, chatted, and hit it off really well. What's better, is that he lives at the same place, that penthouse. Vasileia, right!"
"You forgot the place we're moving to? Anyway, when am I meeting my Dad's crush?" I implied, teasing him as his cheeks flushed pink.
"Soon enough, Aemi." he chuckled, patting my head.
"Dad, you know what? Today's our last day and we should be having fun, partying!" I suggested, my eyes transforming into one of the most irresistible puppy looks.
"Okay, fine! But you have a curfew, Madam." he teased, pressing his finger on the tip of my nose.
"Okay! Bye, Dad!" I exclaimed, pecking his cheek and rushing off into my closet to get ready.
The loud chatter and music of the neighbourhood were all one could hear, and the bright neon lights made the vibe perfect for partying. The crisp air flew into my face, giving me a pleasant shiver, and I dug my hands into the pockets of my jacket, pulling it closer. I wandered and strolled up and down the same stony, pub-filled roads until spotted my best friend waddling over to me, waving excitedly.
"What's up, bestie? It feels like I haven't seen you in a long time," she beamed as she dashed into me, a wide grin on her face.
"Sorry, I've been busy with the packing." I excused, rubbing the back of my neck.
"But, don't you dare forget me once you move away! Wait, you never told me where you were moving to!"
"I told you, Chaeyoung! We're going to that penthouse, Vasileia," I groaned, filling her in with all the details.
"That penthouse where all the bad bitches live?" she mocked, and I burst out in laughter, uncontrollably giggling for the next few minutes. We calmed down soon, and entered a restaurant, ordering chicken wings and some beer.
"Do you think they'll find out?"
"Find out what?" I asked puzzled, my mouth full with the food.
"About your dad? I mean, no offence, but it's not every day that you see a rich man, who's bi, walk into one of the most prestigious penthouse apartments in Seoul," she drawled, taking a sip of her beer, as she glanced at me for my reaction.
"It'll be fine. I'm not planning on getting close to anyone there, and hopefully, even my father will stay away from those problematic people." I assured, falling back on my seat as I took a deep breath.
"I hope you're right, Miae, for your sake," Chaeyoung expressed, a worried look playing on her face as she scooted closer to me, her metal chair dragging across the floor and creaking.
"I know, Chae, I'll make sure of it. This time, I'm gonna do it, whatever happens," I promised, hugging her, unwilling to let go.
